StreetXO, the sister restaurant of 3 Michelin Star DiverXO in Madrid, is the much anticipated new opening in Mayfair. Boasting a menu that is partly identical to DiverXO, it is a bold twist on Asian-Spanish fusion food, complete with theatrical flair and bustling ambiance. Chef David Muñoz started his career working in Asian restaurants in London, before opening DiverXO in Madrid in 2007, which is widely considered the successor to El Buli, and has now returned to London with StreetXO.

We started with the signature Pekinese Dumplings, which was a strong introduction to the explosion of flavours Muñoz aims for in his cooking. The crunch of the crackling and sweetness of the strawberry hoisin make for a unique combination of flavours and texture. I loved the Prawn Carpaccio; the presentation and bursts of citrus flavour are particularly memorable. Some of the dishes, such as the Pork Belly with Mussel, purposefully don't make much sense as it really pushes the boundaries of fusion. What I loved most about StreetXO is how everything on the menu seems to emulate Muñoz himself, from the perfection of the octopus, to the rich and smokiness of the lamb shank, to the spiciness of the King Crab, and all have a very particular flamboyance and rebelliousness.

Talk about a fruitful team up! The folks behind Seasonal Berries – a year-round campaign funded by British Summer Fruits and representing 98% of British berry growers – organised a spring fling lunch at edgy upscale Mayfair restaurant StreetXO to demonstrate the vibrant versatility of the much adored but seldom tampered with strawberry.

StreetXo is the sister restaurant of DiverXO, a three Michelin star restaurant based in Madrid. Street Xo is casually located on Old Burlington St and is the kind of place that I’d completely walk past unless I knew what I was looking for. You go from a quiet street into a funky, lively and upbeat downstairs restaurant with neon lights everywhere. The vibe reminded me a bit of Chotto Matte and the first impression was great. We sat at the bar counter to watch the chefs work their magic. The combination of Spanish and Asian cuisine made the tapas stand out. Most dishes were crazy flavourbombs which is how I like my food. Below are the dishes we tried:

Great mix of Spanish and Asian food in a very sophisticated and beautiful presentation. Cocktails of the house are also great and come with interesting forms or glasses.

It is only worth to come for drinks. Considering their foods ... honestly not good, each portion was sooo small. I even ordered a lots but still not feeling full at the end.

So we had a reservation at StreetXO for 9:30 pm, which is a newly opened restaurant in Mayfair- so of course, as per usual, it was difficult to get a table. But we made it! Entering the restaurant, I was amazed at just how warm and welcoming the staff were. We were assigned a host and was taken to our table. Looking at the menu, there was so much choice and has I have not been here before I was spoilt for choice.

Whilst deciding our food choices, we decided to go for a white wine, I normally go for Pinot Grigio, but their house white wine seemed to still hit the spot. We also ordered one cocktail to share, which looked and tasted absolutely amazing! The idea to share a cocktail is a great idea as the cocktails are so huge!

So the first we ordered was the Pekingese dumplings to share, which were crunchy pig’s ear with strawberry hoisin. These dumplings were the bomb! I was a little hesitant at first, as I would be eating pig’s ear but the taste was just exquisite.

Tip: Smother the dumplings in the Strawberry hoisin to experience the full taste of these sweet dumplings!

I then went ahead and ordered the Iberian grilled pork belly with mussels and shiitake mushrooms. I have to say that the combination of the pork belly and mussels are insane! What a great combo! Lastly, my friend ordered Korean lasagne XO style with Galician beef, shiitake mushrooms, and sour tomato sauce. I was thinking why come to a restaurant and order lasagne! However, this was no ordinary lasagne- This is StreetXO! This was probably the best lasagne that I have ever had by far! It was actually my friend’s dish, so I only tasted a few spoonful’s, but what I did taste left me wanting her leftovers. I definitely underestimated the lasagne, as it was crunchy, sour but left me with a sweet after taste.

StreetXO does have a bar area, so if you cannot dine here, this would be a great place for drinks and cocktails, although if you do not dine here then you are definitely missing out!

Overall, the vibe is great, whilst the food is unreal! It is that good! The service is slightly overbearing but you usually get that with most high-end restaurants, and it actually is a great value for money.

Price: £££

What to wear: Smart casual

Ambience and hospitality: Super friendly and attentive staff.

The only downside is the restaurant is very loud and gets very busy quickly.

This is a crazy and cool place designed with an 'underground' feel and set to shock with a wacky entertaining theatrical theme. The food is extremely 'unusual', for example Munoz signature dish is 'Crunchy Pigs Ears in Strawberry Hoisin'.  It looks like something out of a Hammer House of Horror film crossed with a Jackson Pollock painting! And actually it was very tasty!!

All the waiters are dressed in straight jackets. And one of the waiters was dressed up in a crazy chicken head, we are not sure  what the correlation to the restaurant is if any!.

The cocktails are amazing. Mine was served in a huge Heart shaped jug complete with ventricles.

Or try the violet cocktail, which is served in a bowl as big as a goldfish bowl, it will last you all evening!!

Being Spanish based the menu is slightly limiting as it is mainly based around pig and seafood. However after the 2nd week of opening they did add some extra dishes to vary the menu. But for some strange reason have not added any desserts to the menu !!

We started by ordering Zucchini flower salad with green olives emulsion, oranges, poppy seeds and spicy chlorophyll acidulated oil. It was the only dish that I wouldnt order again. Not that there was anything wrong with it but we just didnt find it as interesting as the other dishes.

Slow Roasted Milk Fed Baby Lamb Shank with tamandarin and Thai basil jus, was definitely our favourite. It was the smallest Lamb Shank we have ever seen but very delicate and tender.

The Tandoori Chicken Wings with pickle red onion, trout caviar, katsuobushi and "chicken souffle" were again very tasty.

Korean Lasagne XO Style - Aged Galician beef, shitake, Gochujang Hot n Sour tomato suace and cardamom bechamel. This was definitely our second favourite dish, very rich and flavoursome.

The food was great and interesting,  and the restaurant was very quirky. We marked it a good 7.5 to 8/10. And well worth a visit, to have a very alternative evening.

A great experience all round. The food was out of this world. Cocktails sublime. So many different unique tastes. Nicely laid out tables with an open kitchen, great vibe friendly staff. Music- deep house playing but not too loud. Fab ! I look forward to my next visit.

Overall, excellent food and experience. StreetXO takes you on an original journey of food from the very basic to the most complex mix of flavors. It really takes you to a high level of Asian cuisine, taking me back to very good memories - thank you. The Ramen, for me, has been the clear winner above all others. One can tell there has been a good deal of effort in making the decoration as intriguing as the food, topping it off with the excellent service of the staff (brilliant at explaining and offering suggestions). The open kitchen and the ability to eat at the bar is also a nice touch. I have been here a few times and it has not disappointed.

Such an amazing place. We took the Degustation Menu, which offers 6 dishes and dessert: all of them colourful, well balanced, flavour-rich and original dishes. Although the menu has a clear Spanish soul, each dish had a beautiful melange of ingredients from all over the world, resulting in the harmony of different cuisines to be enjoyed in every bite. The service was diligent, friendly and very professional. To maximize the experience, take the seats of the counter, this way you can enjoy the view of the vibrant, unstoppable and efficient action taking place in the kitchen! The decor, the cocktails and the overall ambiance provides a great deal to make the experience unique, however the team at the kitchen is clearly the heart of the place. It is evident that they work with loads of pressure and with a ticking clock over their heads, but they are extremely nice and smiling at all times. Chapeau. Edit: Went again. I can't recommend this place enough. You need to try it. (Even though I really expect them to change the menu soon...)

Great atmosphere all of the staff are incredibly friendly and chatty. The whole place has a great vibe with lots going on. It’s good sitting at the bar as you can see all of the dishes prepared, and brought out. There’s lots of interesting dishes and cocktails available. We had the 7 course menu, the food was all very good but if you don’t eat lots the portions are bigger than you would expect for a 7 course menu. So, you’ll leave full, after experiencing great food, atmosphere and wine.

My boyfriend brought me here for a lovely dinner! Fantastic plates, fun cocktails and great wine. We enjoyed the Chef’s menu paired with an Argentinian Malbec and everything was delicious. My favourite dishes were the Pekinese dumplings, the fish and chips and the dessert was divine.

I'd like to congratulate the Sr Restaurant Manager and his team for the great job they do. Food is very tasty and you get to enjoy the creations of a very talented chef at a reasonably affordable price. Atmosphere is fantastic, staff super attentive, etc. I wouldn't say there aren't any issues regarding allergies since that's the first thing they ask you about. Worth the visit! Recommendations: salmorejo, croquettes and the egg cocktail

I went to try the lunch tasting menu, after hearing wonders from this place but in its Madrid location. I was worried at the beginning it might just be too much food, but the food is perfectly balanced so that you’ll be satisfied at the end but not feeling like a balloon. Always ask the servers how to eat the food, as you might miss part of the experience if you take it apart (the fish n chips and the pekinese dumplings are a good example). Thanks so much for having us, I’ll come back for dinner soon!

Amazing! Best Restaurant in the town. We got the menu, and its a perfect match from Spanish and asian cuisine. The chefs are great professionals with an strong career, some use to work at 3* Michelin stars restaurant. Alba our waiter, was super kind and passioned about food. We’ll come back for sure.
