My just deserts. This is apparently where foreign correspondents like to eat with their colleagues. You can well imagine it when you try their lovely food. Good old-fashioned food excellently prepared with modern twist or without. We both had fried fish. Not battered, on the bone, just fried. Not messed around with and exactly done. Not a second too long or too short. Lumpfree, creamy-creamy mash without the slightest hint of glueyness. Also, not messed around with. No cheese in it or olive oil or sun dried this or that. Vegetables perfectly steamed.
Basically, this is food as you'd w i s h your mother cooked it. But that is only the main course...
Really, we are not desert eaters. Ususally, if I feel like more than one course, it is an entree, and not a desert I go for. However, goodness knows I'm pleased we both had deserts this time. We had the best-ever (really) Eton mess. Just raspberries, merengue rubble and perfectly whipped cream. The whole has consistency and variety of flavour. The crunchy merengue, the juicy give of the fruit between your teeth, and the pillowy cloud of the cream. It isn't prettied up or forced in a cylinder or anything like that either, but even if that is what you like, here it doesn't matter; it is so good you have your eyes closed in delight anyway.
Best of it all though, was the chocolate and salt caramel tart. Really, you won't believe your tongue. Words fail to describe its perfection, so I won't go there. Just visit Frontline and try it for yourself.
Very good food, wonderful atmosphere. You are breathing history here.
Best pork chop I've ever tasted, but terrible service, left unattended then waiter tries to remove half empty wine bottle.
Frontline prides itself on making food from locally sourced produce. The menu is quite small but has sufficient choice. On this cold winter's day, there was no doubt what was needed; a bowl of hot soup! On the menu was celeriac, Bramley apple and whole chestnut soup. The combination sounded a little strange, but I thought that it was worth a try! Whole chestnuts, chunks of apple in a creamy celeriac based soup! Surprisingly, the sweet and savoury flavours worked well together. It was not too sweet with the apple. A small brown crusty roll was served with the soup. It tasted like it had fennel seeds in it! I skipped the main course and went straight for the dessert! Crumble has always been a favourite of mine so I was happy that Frontline had Autumn fruit crumble on the menu! The crumble was served in a ramekin with a small jug of custard on the side. Chunky fruit was topped with a nut based crumble. The vanilla custard had not been overdone on the sugar side of things. The whole desser
Had our post convocation dinner here. It felt like it was one of the best in London where you are encouraged to feel your opinion matters.
Ingredients from the farm were fresh and well cooked as I had the quail. The dinner dishes came with a very good taste and pleasant surprises. Lovely wine. My classmates and I were searching for a venue for a pre party dinner.
This restaurant should be enjoyed with friends who are very much into current affairs or not, there is always good wine!
It's hard not to feel a part of something here - the very ethos of the club whisks you away to a time when people made and cared for news - with such an ambience, it's hard to imagine the food and wine can compete, but they do in spades.
Popped in here for a bite to eat before getting the train. What a find, chap on the front door (possibly the manager others have mentioned) super friendly, offered me a couple of options for a table (was on my own, so chose to sit at the bar), amazing burger and a couple of glasses of house red. Highly recommended - one of those happy serendipitous discoveries.
Dining here felt like I was eating in one of those restaurants you see in the movies. You know the ones where the characters are talking over a nice meal in a sophisticated but relaxed and not pretentious restaurant? That's what this is like.
The staff were superb, the food was absolutely delectable and the price is fair. The food is even grown on the owners farm! Can't beat it.
I've been told that lots of journalists eat here but not sure how valid that is.
Great place to spend a Friday night. The food is delicious, and the atmosphere is extraordinary. Artur, the manager, is a very pleasant and welcoming person. Thanks for the warm experience.
Visiting the Frontline Club restaurant was a work / social affair with a couple of colleagues and what a treat to find in Paddington. Across the road is an awesome magazine / travel bookshop which I think is the home to Monocle, so if you are early a great place to browse, I have never seen so many high quality and contemporary photography magazines / journals. This leads nicely on to the Frontline Club which is ‘is a gathering place for journalists, photographers and other likeminded people interested in international affairs and independent journalism’ with the brestauntrant open to non-members.
The food choice was good and we were offered a range of specials of the day. We all were very pleased with our choices being a couple of starters of Steak tartare with Arlington hen’s egg and the Crispy Duck salad with lime and chilli dressing. For mains I supersised the special starter of Mules marinere and colleagues had the pork belly special and the Lemon sole with brown shrimp butter. All washed down from a well curated selection of ales and largers – it was a very hot day in early May! Our waitress was very knowledgeable and attentive.
The photos posted with this review show that it not the largest restaurant and has quite a cosy but business like atmosphere; which I liked for eating out with colleagues and talking about ‘stuff’. The restaurant is utilised by members so you might recognize some of the correspondents that are in front of the camera, however you probably won’t know the ones from behind the camera, some of whose work is displayed on the walls.

Wonderful spot to hunker down in whilst your wife gives birth in the neighbouring hospital, instead of the shrieks of labouring women why not have a delicious pear and walnut salad with blue cheese and listen to some salsa music. Highly recommended.
I've been to this place twice and both times were interesting.
First time I ate something delicious and indulged in the atmosphere, one of its main assets, and the second time I just had a coffee (excellent) as I waited for somebody.
During my last visit I noticed the interesting press photographs on the wall and also the list of upcoming talks, including one on nerve agents as a weapon of war.
This is where foreign correspondents hang out and, presumably, people who want to hang out with them.
If you're at a loose end at Paddington Station and you're not totally skint, this would be a good place to come and lunch.
Fantastic restaurant where most of the dishes are good. I particularly like the lamb pie and the seafood linguine. Staff are very friendly and the interior decoration is great. The place is relatively small, and not sure if it's children-friendly.
The employees very friendly and accommodating. Even without a reservation they got us a table for three.
Great atmosphere. Amazing and flavourful food. Great selection of wines. Staff very attentive to us! Would definitely visit again.
A great option for dining near Paddington. Modern European menu with a solid wine list and attentive service. The lamb and vegetable pie with mash is superb
Now this is a special find. Amazing attentive and knowledgable staff, oustanding food and a perfect environment to share great times. The espresso martini is the best my wife has ever tasted! If the beef special is on, it's probably the best you'll ever eat.
Amazing halibut with crab risotto. Good scallops too. Attentive service. Good attention to detail. An unexpected gem within 100 metres of Paddington
The staff in the public restaurant downstairs are so good that I have been returning here regularly for five years. Junior, Julia and the team are a credit to Frontline. They make me feel welcomed and looked after.
Great food and I can particularly recommend the chicken liver parfait.
Just don’t tell everyone about this Paddington station-adjacent delight or there won’t be any room left for me!!!
I love this restaurant. My wife and I ate here often when we lived close. It is very grown up, not a tourist place, food is very good British cuisine and the staff have been excellent over the years we came here, and still are. Must mention the decor which is very classy and of course absolutely iconic photographs on the wall. It is what this place is about.
This is a strange place, its somewhat out of place where its located, at the same time, the food is pretty good.
I guess i would say its good Gastropub food - Its good, solid without pretensions and a varied menu.
The service is a bit up and down, but they seem to care, but be a little all at sea.
Its a strange place, but very welcome in the strange part of London
Busy place, we were seated at the bar which proved to be the right call for us. Good wines, good food. Friendly staff.
I have been here at least 4 times now for food and for events. For a decent meal in London that wont break bank its a great choice and a bit of a hidden gem. The staff are always very accommodating and attentive. Glasses aren't empty for long and plates are cleared quickly. I have had a range of food from the menu both vegetarian and standard dishes all have been awesome. I had the Risotto a few weeks ago and it was one of the best I have ever eaten very creamy and full of flavour. I will keep coming back here and enjoying the changing menu and great service.
