The golden hind is a pure sea food restaurant. Their main sell is fish and prawns. And trust me on this it's the best place to have sea food in the whole of London.
One of the best fish and chips in London. The staffs are friendly and the place ambience is decorated more like a family living room. Will be back again to tried other fish in the menu.
We tasted the traditional fish and chips in one of the best restaurants in the area, and we were not disappointed. Refinement, and quality in service. Definitely worth a visit.
You fancy a sensibly priced meal in the centre of Marylebone. This is it. Great food and nice staff.
I orederd the Greek salad, calamari, traditional fish and chips with peas, treacle pudding and a yummy strawberry filled drink..
The fish was so tender..
Best place for fish lovers...
Generally a nice place to enjoy fish and chips. The portions are large , the fish is great and fried correctly and so are the chips.
The place itself looks simple and kinda oldish but decor is not what you are there for.
I am not a fan of fish and chips, but my family loves them. So I decided to find the best joint so I could give the best to them. Read about this place and decided to try it out. Great decision. Place is simple but always crowded. Ordered haddock and cod. I like the fish batter and that's rare for me, so I give it a thumbs up.
True to its reputation

I went to this fish n chips legend after a strong recommendation by one of my Italian colleagues who I know has a refined taste. And he was right. The fish I had here was really pleasing. I had ordered a Haddock with mushy peas and coffee. Peas were cooked well and I liked the coffee a bit more than the coffee at Starbucks and Pret a Manger. Probably I liked it more because I prefer my coffee less frothy.
However, what you will really like about this place is the warmth with which the staff serves you. Specially interesting was the owner of this place who shared that he is from Cyprus and he even drew out it's location on a piece of paper. All in all whenever you are in this area, you can definitely give it a shot. And of course it's not heavy on your pockets.
Don't be fooled by the plain look of this one!!!!! This place serves the best fish and chips u will ever try? So crispy, so fresh without being greasy .. It just doesn't get any better than this. I would highly recommend.
Me and my boyfriend tried the Golden Hind after I'd done a search on the internet prior to our first trip to London. I wanted to find authentic fish and chips and the Hind was among the highest rated. The place was absolutely packed, as expected, so we sat at an available table in the small room downstairs, which was also full.
Before our visit to the Hind, we'd stumbled upon a pub in Westminster called The Old Star, where we'd ordered fish and chips. Having that advance frame of reference may have sullied our opinion of the Golden Hind's fish because we actually liked the batter and overall flavor of The Old Star's better.
While the Golden Hind's fish was good overall, our absolute favorite items were the mushy peas and the Spotted Dick for dessert. Overall a good experience and glad to have heard about it!
I went here on a wednesday, around 7 or 8 o clock. Waited for about 5 minutes. The fried Cod and chips were GREAT! The owner was really friendly too, and to top it all off, it was only 55 pounds for 4 people! Id gladly pay 75 - 80 for that fish. Cant recommend it enough.
Good food served promptly. No fuss or airs and graces. Good spot for a good feed.
Golden Hind. I've been here lots of times. It does decent fish and chips, a good greek salad and nice mushy peas - essential given my Northern roots. The fish isn't always the freshest though and I suspect that a lot of it is frozen. Best to stick to the simple dishes. It's not trendy and it's not exciting but it is reasonable and they do good chips. Warning: the coffee is dire and don't bother with dessert.
Fantastic Fish & Chips!. Absolutely fantastic fish & chips (and reasonable prices, for London). They get busy around dinner time though (so it's best to book a reservation, or else the wait can be a little long).
This tourist liked it a lot. First time to have fish n chips in England. Cod and haddock was great, breading stuck to the fish. Mushy peas were excellent. Chips were average. The topping....brought in beer from the tesco down the street.
Fish and chips in Central London can be so hit and miss. This 'plaice' is well worth a visit. The expanded premises are always busy and the food is unpretentious and filling. Hit this restaurant when you can - it serves a filling meal you would not want to miss.
Another good urbanspoon recommendation. After many trips to London my wife mentioned that we really haven't ever had great fish and chips. So we searched and got this recommendation based on area and score from Urbanspoon. It was spot on. We loved the fish and chips. We had a cod and haddock and trying them side by side we both agreed that cod was slightly better. Lots of food, good service, decent price.
The chips were average but the fried cod was quite good. I'd go back again.
The Best Fish and Chip Shop in London. Fantastic Fish and Chip shop based in the heart of the West End which never disappoints . Excellent service and top quality food.
Good chippy. One of the best fish and chips in central london. Great tartare sauce that goes with it too. Not much in terms of atmosphere but pleasant and quick service. All in all a good experience.
The best fish & chips in London , had a takeaway last night & it was absolutely superb
Simplicity and quality. Greatest fish and chips restaurant in West London - friendly and efficient service, excellent food at excellent prices.
Overall, The Golden Hind was a rather pleasant stop, and a good way to indulge in one of our guilty, deep-fried, indulgences.
Feta Fritters, deep fried salty amazingness! We ordered a starter to share and broke the no cheese in January resolution with some frankly amazing Feta Fritters,
I love my fish and chips. Coming to London , I was excited and was expecting awesome fish n chips to be found everywhere, Be it newspaper wrapped or served on a fancy plate. Sadly, it seems that what London has to offer is quite elusive. I was told that to find a good one, it will have to be outside of London . That is until I heard of Golden Hind which came recommended. That got me quite excited and I happily roped in some friends for dinner there. Watching food passing you with its aroma enticing was too much while we waited for a late party to arrive. We decided to order some starters to tide our tummies over. Feta cheese fritters £3.4 Whole tail scampi £3.6 Interesting fried little bites. I like the crispy batter and both were tasty without being greasy. Fish and chips With some of us trying to be healthy, there were mixed orders of grilled fish and fried fish in the fish and chips order. The fish and chips are decent and of a good standard. They don't beat this in Whitby but
A restaurant, even a chippie, which has been in continuous operation since 1914 must be doing something right. The Golden Hind has no prententions, but its brightly lit, basically decorated dining room was doing a roaring trade this evening.
Fish n’ Chips would be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of the English favourite (and some say national) dish. This dish that comprises of a deep fried battered fish fillet and some fat chips have come a long way from its humble origins. T
Golden Hind is a delightful fish and chips restaurant located in the heart of Marylebone, just off Marylebone High Street. Open since 1914, it's been in the hands of only a few owners, Italian and Greek, in the last 90 or so years. Popular with both local
I associate fish and chips with the impending arrival of the weekend. Back in the day when I was a spring chicken exploring the dark arts of jellied petrol, I also tended to the student bar. Ah the days of minimum wages - £4.80 an hour, I think. We didn't
This is one of those places which are known for it's food and it is worth it. The ambience is just fine and nothing over the top but the main attraction is the food which is excellent, especially the fish. The service quite quick as well. Overall it is a wonderful experience and a must try.
This is a nice place where you can bring your own wine and you can have some delicious fish and chips.
This place is run by a Greek man who is very friendly.
The menu is pretty large and the you have a lot of options to choose from.
If you are planning to visit here do try Mushy peas , that is my favorite option here.
I've been to this restaurant thrice, twice for dine-in and once for take-away, and I was never disappointed by the experience. Luckily, when I visited this place for dine-in, I was able to get a table instantly, which is a big deal because this place is usually crowded. I ordered their Fish and chips, which were cooked properly, and tasted crispy and delicious. The food of this place is pretty decent and is served in large portions, and the prices for take-away are pretty less as compared to their dine-in. All in all, it was a good experience and I'd love to visit this place again.
This restaurant is located at a historic location and that somewhat increases its visitors expectations from it. Serving non greasy food at reasonable prices, this place is very close to Marylebone hotel.
They follow the concept of BYOB which seems justified as the flaky fish makes up for the non presence of the alcohol.
We visited this restaurant during the dinner time and it turned out to be pretty good bet. The place was almost packed though I did not have to face much difficulty in finding a table. The décor was top notch and the service was a pretty standard one. For starters, we had garlic prawns whereas for the mains, we ordered fish and chips. Everything was perfectly prepared and the entire meal was a delicious one.
It is quite a simple place and I must if you are planning to visit it some time then don't forget to try their fish and chips. They are quite delicious and the portions served also generous. The service is always spot on and I assure you that you won't be disappointed as the meal is quite wholesome and you will definitely get the value for your money.
This place is famously visited by a lot of Americans like me. A warm and simple ambience. What they offer is humble Fish and Chips, nothing extravagant on the menu, but they make it with perfection. There is a lot that can go wrong with this dish but here at the homeland of this dish, it was nothing but RIGHT. The portions are huge and healthy. Their food is enough to draw us back to this place each time we visit London.
The whole experience was amazing. The ambiance is pretty decent and the location comfortable. The serving is incredible and the prices appropriate too. The chefs here have made the preparation of finger licking fish and chips almost like a unique art.It goes without saying, one must try the heavenly fish and chips.
I had a great meal here. The fish and chips they offer here, are great and very traditional in their taste and texture.
The best part was the delicious salad it came with! A must try would also be the steamed fish. The chips are also done to perfection and are so fresh.
the good is simple in taste and flavors but so good.
We happened to try this place as this is located nearby our hotel. It is not essentially sophisticated but is a very nice restaurant to have a good lunch. The place remains a little crowded with both the locals and the tourists. But most importantly the food is of supreme quality and is plain delicious.Do try their classic fish and chips.
I went to this place for some fish and chips and it was my last day in London. My card refused to be swiped, and the manager just let me be. I, however insisted on giving him whatever cash I had, but he kept refusing, and took it only when I told him I had money to get back to the hotel. A very sweet gesture in a foreign land.
By far the best fish and chips that I have tried in London are served here. They are mouth flooding and I can assure you that they serve the best fish around. I visit them weekly. Having said that, stuff you get here are pocket friendly and the best part being the BYOW concept ie. Bring Your Own Wine.
Very cooperative staff and an amazing place. Cheers!
My staple order in many places is the simple fish and chips. And now this place has become one of my favorites for serving the best fish and chips. Perfectly grilled to my liking accompanying with well made hand cut fries. Also this place is quite reasonable. You can bring your own wine as well.
I, along with a group of my friends, went to this place. The menu was a small one though the food was absolutely delicious. The staff was a bit cold but I think that was due to the reason that the place was crowded at that time. The portions were quite and I had a wholesome meal. I would be back again to this one for sure.
This is not your fancy restaurant and is uncomplicated and humble. But this should not throw you off ,because this place serves truly incredible fish and chips! The dishes were made with care and tasted delicious.
Although the place was crowded, the service remained unaffected and were very efficient. The charges are appropriate and i would definitely advice people to drop in.
In my many trips to Lobdon, I realised that I had never eaten a good portion of fish and chips in the city. We searched and did our homework and concluded on giving this place a visit. It was just the right decision to make. The cod was slightly better than the haddock we had tried. However, what stealth the show was the stunning fish and chips. Decent place with even better pricing!
Tried the Feta Fritters here, and it was amazing, just melted in my mouth. It was so great that I broke my no-cheese resolution for it and it was totally worth it. The food was yummy and so were the starters. Will definitely go back to this place.
This place has nice interior , it has a very decorated dining room which can make your way for some pretty pictures.
The food was above average , there was nothing to great about it but it was not bad either.
The service was also good. I would recommend this place only because of the interiors and nothing else.
My experience of dining out here has always been a delight. The place is always busy with people that speaks volume of their reputation. Fish and chips is my staple order everywhere and a lot of places do not make this dish good. But here it was perfect as and what I wanted it to be. So soft and tender.
This was my first experience with the fish and the chips and I was not at all disappointed . The fish was of good quality and the chips were also good , I liked the staff too as they were pretty excited to see us.
I had my beer from different place and I enjoyed this place pretty much.
Highly recommended.
If you are coming to this place you just cannot skip their fish and chips. Its the best and also very reasonable. Fish is perfectly grilled, so soft and tender. This place gets really busy during the dinner time. So its better to come here with a reservation. I would highly recommend!
I love the fish and chips here. I'm a big fan of the combo too, tried having this almost everywhere in London and was mostly always disappointed. This place however is a real find for the taste and good value for money. Will go back there soon.
If you are a fish fan then you must give this place a visit because it is indeed very great place.
The quality of the food was great and the staff was also very friendly.
I would surely approve this place and will recommend this to everyone who loves sea food. :)
We went to this little place the other day and had our full of delectable cod and chips for four and it was extremely cheap. Loved the place and the service. The owner was nice and friendly too. Will definitely go back there as often as time permits,
We had been on a hunt for some great fish and chips serving eating joint. This place had been a favourite of many friends and on their recommendations we came to this place. Coming to our orders, i ordered a calamari and others ordered a couple of more dishes. Do try!
The Restaurant is in Marylebone area in a quiet neighbourhood. The fish is excellent. Big portion size nicely fried and not oily. During my one week stay in London this the best Fish & chips I ate. Don't get let down by the decor the fish is really great. Nearest station is baker street near Madam Tussaud.
The funny thing is it is never owned by any Brit as mentioned in the list of owners posted in wall.
The place to go for a great fish-n-chips experience in London - but beware, it fills up fairly quickly around lunch/dinner times. With friendly staff, bumper-to-bumper tables/chairs, and a list on the wall of all the owners of the restaurant since 1914 and where they are from. Atmospheric!
Huge and scrumptious portions at reasonable prices, the fish is cooked and battered well, and the sides like chips and mushy peas are well done. Thumbs up from me.
The fried cod fish was fresh, and the large size is just nice for me who was so hungry. late lunch at 14.00. prefered the fried over the steamed cod fish. the mushy peas was good way to increase my vegetables intake, easy to eat. the home made mint lemon drink cooler was good too.
Probably the best fish and ships I have ever had in the UK. The fried cod is seasoned perfectly and it's really crispy. Most importantly, it is HUGE! My friend and I both finished the fish and couldn't finish the chips. The waiter and waitresses were so friendly and nice to us as well. We had a great time!
The mushy pie and the dusted calamari are good. However the chips has nothing to shout about
Fish and chips were good. Good service. We sat outside since the interior felt little smelly
Lovely restaurant with super nice and accommodating staff. Would highly recommend a visit. The one star missing is just down to the fish itself (I had cod) - unfortunately it wasn’t very flakey which normally means it’s possibly frozen but it was battered and fried well! If this gets fixed this will a 5 star recommendation.
Made a reservation for 7.30pm a week in advance after a recommendation from a friend. Got to restuarant a little earlier at 7pm and luckily they had a table ready for us. We order the haddock and cod, chips, a regular Greek salad and a large bottle of water. The food came to table very quickly. The battered fish was excellent. The chips were not greasy. The Greek salad was ok. Very popular restuarant. All tables were taken when we were there so a little cramped. We finished our food by 8pm, so we were in restuarant about 50 mins which was adequate for the meal. Recommended
The Golden Hind is a fish and chips restaurant, where the crispy cod and haddock golden-brown batter perfectly cooked have been satisfying.
Definitely one of the best fish & chips in Town. They even got the right beer to pair with: hoegarden wit beer.
Try the Lemon & Mint refresher. Delicious!
Classic! One of the best fish and chips joints in the city!
Beware fish portions are quite large (and pricey!) but worth every bite.
Chips were average for my taste but may appeal to some.
The best fish & chips I have been coming here for many years as it’s the absolute best the fish is always fresh and seasoned and the coating is so light and crispy not your usual greasy thick battered fish you find in most fish and chips shops. Greek owned they know how to season and cook fish! This restaurant dates back from 1914 it’s always been a fish and chip shop that’s rare to find it’s in a great neighborhood Marylebone. Great customer service the management and team are all friendly. I highly recommend!
Good fish and attentive service. Had the cod and the haddock. Mushy peas on the side!
Enjoy a big fish and chips at the golden hind. They’ve been serving for more than a hundred years. You can feel the experience they have in every single bite of your crispy fish (I had a haddock). It’s clearly worth the price 14.5£ even though I would have appreciated French fries to be included (rather than 2.9£) especially they were far from being exceptional. The mozzarella sticks were ok for appetizer. The fish was nicely and lightly crisply coated. Drinks were a little bit over priced. The staff is very kind and welcoming.
I would recommend just to have a fish and other side than French fries.
