Loved this place. We were in London for the weekend and I loved it so much that I wanted to go the next evening as well. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to make it.
The experience was really fun. I wanted to try all the cocktails :) The service was really good. The food, not the best but not bad. I took the steak sandwich which was ok, but my husband took the steak which was very chewy and not good. However, overall the experience was amazing and I definitely recommend the place for a unique experience.
This place was amazing and worth the visit. You feel like the bartender is a chemist and you are a student watching the chemical reaction. The drinks were delicious and insane and the prices very reasonable. They do have finger foods and a full menu as well.
This is a really fun place that offers something rather different to your standard cocktail bar. The cocktails are interesting and even interactive and the staff really add to the theatre and experience. Really reasonable price too for central London. Definitely check this place out if you’re looking for cocktails, something a bit different and a really good atmosphere
A really fun and enjoyable place to socialise. The drinks are not that expensive for central London but are so much more exciting than any other drinks you will find around. With catchy names and exciting twists this is a must visit for all. Children are welcome during the day and there are lots of lovely non-alcoholic options for them too.
Beautifully themed bar perfect for a drink before or after a show. Known for imaginatively served drinks and a cool vibe. I asked for a TNT thinking it would be a Tanqueray and Tonic, but got a red bubbling tequila drink served in a test tube. Tasty and remarkably inexpensive. My friends and I had a great time before a show.
Had a great time, the server we had was very welcoming, the food was delicious and the cocktails were out of this world. The dry ice hadn't been delivered yet so couldn't have any of the theatrical cocktails which was a little sad and the only reason i had to drop a star but I had the Edible one which was so tasty! Will have to come back!!
*******2nd visit 18/07/23**********
Came for the 2nd time today! This time the dry ice delivery came so tried some more theatrical cocktails!! The experience was worth coming back for! We loved our cocktails, were very delicious!! Staff were very friendly. Enjoyed it.
A huge variety of drinks. All with different display options. The waiter was very attentive, constantly changing the water after it had been drank. The venue was slightly small, and we definitely recommend booking, we couldn’t get to our table early which was a slight shame however can be expected on a Saturday evening. The atmosphere was buzzing and a definite experience.
I was in London for the day and a friend said The Alchemist was a place to visit. It was easily within walking distance of where I was staying, in Russell Square, and was “my” type of place. So I decided it would be my lunch stop. The Alchemist opened at 11am and I was the first person in. Right away I was greeted and i formed the kitchen and alcohol was not open for service until 12pm. They served coffee and small bites. I ordered a flat white and decided to sit and read my kindle until 12.
But first I had to walk around and take in the ambience and decor. It was slightly dark in tone, but warming and comfortable, and had a steampunk feel to the lighting and decor. The music was a little like trance or house music and was slightly loud but quickly got use to it. The staff was pleasant and presented a charm to their work in finishing prep for the day and answering questions.
I received my Flat White shortly. It was a pleasant coffee but nothing special. But I didn’t go to The Alchemist for their coffee. I went for their drinks and presentations of said drinks! We’ll get to that shortly.
In my time there (about 2.5 hours) I only had their loaded fries from the menu. I had a large breakfast and didn’t feel hungry. So next time I go, plan to hit up the menu more. The loaded fries were good and a good size from their ‘Nibbles’ menu. It was fries (with skin) that had BBQ sauce, applewood smoked cheese, N*duja sausage (a spicy pork sausage) and cut spring onion. Although the BBQ sauce was a little sweet the dish as a whole was enjoyable and went well with my drinks.
Onto the drinks…….During my lunch I sampled 4 drinks. One from 4 different categories of drinks they have in their drink menu.
1) Pop-Sicle: This drink was made in a cone shaped glass and had a large bubble on top. I was informed to pop the bubble with my nose. When I did the a puff of smoke was released and I was able to get a sweet smell. I was not able to tell the scent but it was a nice surprise and added to the presentation. When tasting, the Patron Silver and mango flavors were the most prevalent. A good pairing really. But they were not so strong as to also cover the orange and lime flavors in the drink. A good refreshing start.
2) Pipe Dream: This drink was served in a kettle or pot design that had a small spout you will drink from. Dry ice is inserted i to the drink to make it have a smoking effect. Again…presentation is a show. This drink has a heavy smoke taste to it (from the Laphroig Whisky 10yr) which is one of my favorite flavors. This also has Johnnie Walker black label but I really did not taste it. That was fine as I enjoyed sipping this drink. This is one I would have loved to have around a warm fire. Really fit with the darker ambience of the restaurant.
3) Pear Pressure: This drink was presented in a bong shape glass. You used the choke portion of the bong as a straw. This drink was so light and refreshing to consume. The pear and cucumber stand out and go so well together. I am sad to say this drink went down very quickly! Such a good light drink to have at any point in the day or year! Probably my favorite cocktail of the day.
4) 3.5oz of Happiness: This drink starts in a small but well presented flask. The flask has the company name and logo on it with a sticker with the ‘chemical symbol’ (like the periodic table) of Ha, the drink name, and allergen information. The flask could be kept as a souvenir or returned for a refund/refill. You pour the drink in a glass provided. This was a Gin drink but I did not taste the gin, which was slightly disappointing as I really do lime the taste of Gin. The berry flavor and Martini Rubino were the stars of this drink. Still enjoyed it but would have liked more Gin.
Overall, I had a great time tasting and drinking while spending time at The Alchemist. I truly do recommend a visit by anyone to the establishment for food and fun drinks. I will be back again next time I am in London! Special thanks to the bartenders: Amber, Camahri, and Tom
Amazing menu, great service, really done theatrically. The cocktails are tasty and great for photos. Just found out they serve food as well in a separate area, will try that next time!
Had a lovely boozy brunch here with friends and honestly would recommend to everyone! The drinks are always fantastic and a show. The boozy brunch allows you to choose from many different cool cocktails, promising a good time. Team here were absolutely amazing and accommodating to dietary restrictions. Only thing is brunch food portion is on the smaller side but still good.
EDIT: shout out to Khalid who did an amazing job sorting our tables drinks and food orders very efficiently and so patiently!
I have been many times and to different Alchemists and they are all great. Each Alchemist has a really unique design to it and it really is designed as a laboratory where bartenders can get to make their amazing drinks.
The looks and the taste of the drinks is unique and cool. Some of them come with an amszing show where you can see how they make it before you get to drink it.
There are many drink choices and the staff is well trained to provide amazing suggestions in case you feel like ypu want to tey somethong new.
Their playlist is quite modern and it isn't as loud and some cocktail bars are.
The place is very organised, clean and looks luxurious even though it isn't crazy expensive.
Fun drinks and good atmosphere with nice music, a bit on a higher price point but a good place to organize friend gathering. Bigger groups require a reservation and it closes at midnight sharp, definitely go a bit earlier or plan something after. Overall it’s a fun place to start your night. Would recommend only for drinks rather than dinner.
The location isn’t too far from the local station.
The drinks were really good, tasted amazing and had their own quirky takes, the espresso martini had a chocolate spoon with little coffee bubbles.
The staff member that served us was really good, very quick service, they were constantly topping up our water jug, the drinks were nicely presented, always checking that we were alright.
I think initially when we arrived, the staff weren’t quite as good as we would have hoped, this was due to the fact we were slightly early and were told to return later at our booking time, we asked to sit at an empty table but were told they were all booked, even though when we came for our booking they were still empty.
Overall I’d recommend the Alchemist at St Martins, overall it was a very good experience, very much like the others that I have been to before.
Always enjoy going here. Cocktails as always amazing and love watching them being made! 100% recommend going
It's a different experience in a very good way! Service by Cori was fantastic, he was very helpful in suggesting us the best theatrical drink. We went on a lunch date on a Monday at noon therefore no crowd at all and we got all the attention 😀 .I can say that it was one our best experiences.
The pricing was reasonable as you are paying for the theatrics and not just for the amazing drink.
Food on the other hand, was average. There weren't many options for vegetarians but it was still a decent menu. We ended up eating mains outside of this restaurant 😂 .
I’d still book Alchemist with friends and family again , for the brilliant cocktail experience and their service.
Go for it!!!
Somewhere just a little bit magical to experience simple but tasty food and a wonderful theatre of cocktails, all provided by helpful, friendly servers. 100% recommend, we loved it.
The Alchemist is one of my favourite bars in London. In this one I tried three cocktails so far: Pina co-lava lamp, Lightbulb moment, Caramelised jungle bird. All of them feature excellent presentation and the bartenders really know their job. Taste-wise the cocktails I tried during my visit in another Alchemist spot were better so next time I would try something else
Great idea for an occasion. Our server was fantastic. I went with a wild card of wings and waffles, which was highly enjoyable whilst my friend opted for the full English (also very nice). The cocktails were fun and tasty too! Lots of giggles and busy at 11am, great atmosphere and everyone in the venue seemed to be enjoying themselves x
