Amazing place in London. I love the food. can’t wait to come back here again. Congratulations to the staff.
Nice place to eat and nice stuff! The fish tasted really nice and the calamari they have are good as well. Try their house ale it’s amazing!
Comfy Chippy!
Searching for some comfort food led us to this lovely fish and chips place Kerbisher & Malt. They even have their own Pale ale of the same name. The fish was perfectly cooked. The consistency of the pea mash was just right. The portions were large for London standards. Felt like we were back in the little towns up north where the service is cheerful and chirpy, portions warm and gigantic. Loved this place.
Lovely little place by Brook Green. If you love fish and chips of course! Great choice of fishes, yummi chips, and be sure to try the lemon mayonnaise and the tartare sauces. The staff are really nice and friendly too. Be aware the place is small, so you should either take away, or share the big table with some fun people.
Having been staying at Hammersmith for majority of the days, Kerbisher & Malt was on our must do list as it was highly rated here on Zomato and has won quite some accolades for its food and honesty with food.
Located in very close proximity to the Hammersmith tube station, Kerbisher and Malt opens to customers only at 12 noon onwards, so we had to return back to this eatery as we were an hour early. The restaurant is well lit with the natural light beaming in from outside and large glass panels on the door.
What did we eat?
Fish buttie: Well, before the dish arrived on our table, I was personally clueless as to what a buttie means. It's a brit way of calling a 'bun maska' or 'sandwich maska' to be precise. Butter and meat in a sandwich, straightforward and no frills. The fish was nice and crispy and tasted good with the buttered soft bread. Maybe because we didn't understand the concept of a buttie initially, lead us to expect lettuce, tomatoes and the works in the buttie.
Sausage buttie: Similar to the fish buttie, however this has diced yummy sausages which tasted really good with the bread and butter.
Calamari: Really well done and different from how we have been eating calamari frittis in the past, specially in goa. The batter didn't dominate the squid, but actually enhanced the flavor of the squid.
Baked beans: This was nice, done like the usual baked beans in tomato sauce.
Chips: Special mention to the chips, as claimed by the eatery these didn't taste like frozen and were actually fresh. We finished two bowls of this.
Onion rings: The onion rings were actually very different from what we are used to eating everywhere. The onions were pickled and had a brilliant tangy touch to it.
All in all a good meal but nothing extra ordinary about the experience. Hope to try their cod & chips next time around!
Better than Poppies, better than Bailey's, and more reasonable as well. I'd just run 18 miles on a pre-marathon long run and the £5 deal was more than enough fare to restore my depleted energy stores (wow, what a way to justify eating loads of calories). AND we ate in as well, so there wasn't even any newspaper print transferred onto the batter.
Clean place, good chips and sauces. Went here at the recommendation of Lonely Planet's recommendations on budget eats so made the trip out here. Had the battered cod with chips and have to say really went down well especially as had no lunch. Also had the fishcake which although not bad was really big and thickish so wouldn't get it again.
Interested to note that the cooking staff and serving staff were all speaking something not English - Russian?? Anyway, the mayo and tartare sauce went really well with the chips so enjoyed the experience.
It was just ok. Nothing special, not bad. We both ordered cod and chips. Chips were good and plentiful. My cod batter wasn't fully cooked. My friend's was and they liked theirs. We split some cole slaw that I thought had too much onion in it. I would try again, but no time soon.

Worth a trip across London? Possibly not, unless you’re a major fish-and-chips fan — this is a fantastic local restaurant, not destination dining. Worth going every week if you live nearby and like eating great food for under a tenner? As if you have to ask.
The batter on the fish was really lovely - thin, crisp and beautifully golden, it just melted in the mouth.
