If you're looking for a delicious breakfast or brunch spot, then you absolutely have to try the banana hotcakes at this restaurant. The hotcakes are an amazing combination of texture and flavor that will leave you feeling satisfied and happy.
However, there are a few downsides to keep in mind. Firstly, the restaurant doesn't have an electronic queue system, which means you may have to wait in line to get a table. Additionally, it can be difficult to find a seat if you don't have a reservation, especially during peak hours.
Despite these issues, the food is definitely worth it. In addition to the banana hotcakes, the menu has plenty of other delicious options to choose from. Whether you're in the mood for something sweet or savory, you're sure to find something that appeals to your taste buds.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is also quite pleasant, with a cozy and relaxed vibe that's perfect for a lazy weekend brunch. The service is friendly and attentive, and the staff are always happy to make recommendations if you're not sure what to order.
All in all, while there are some downsides to consider, the amazing banana hotcakes and delicious menu make this restaurant a must-visit for anyone looking for a great breakfast or brunch spot. If you're willing to wait for a table or make a reservation in advance, you're sure to have a wonderful dining experience.

Recommended and I love the decoration very much here. Its relaxing, modern, The food was fancy as well. I ordered the pancakes and it was good looking. The taste was alright though. Sourdough with avo cocktail was great but nothing special. Staff were nice

not usually a sweet tooth when it comes to breakfast/brunch, but this one is a recommend! It’s the ricotta pancakes, they’re made upon orders so there’s a bit of waiting time for them. It didn’t disappoint as it was fluffy and not too sweet! Staffs were friendly and attentive too.

As a solo diner, I was really well looked after by all the staff. They were super friendly and were attentive without being overbearing. The chicken starter I had was next level amazing and my steak was delicious (although just the tiniest bit chewy). The wine I had was very good and complimented the food beautifully.
The atmosphere and vibe in the restaurant was fabulous. It was cool without being pretentious. The lighting, the music, the layout all contributed to a great ambience!
At £60, I thought it was really good value given the quality of food *and* service. All in all it was an excellent eating experience!

Absolutely love this place, I’ve been to all Granger & Cos in the city and I love the Australian food culture in here. The ricotta pancakes have been the best here for years and I also loved potato & feta rostis with hot smoked salmon 🤌🏻 amazing

They've kept it simple and achieved superb with both the décor and the menu.
The food was extremely well done, with flavour, texture and presentation ticking all the boxes.
Also they have a good selection of drinks to supplement the food.

Fantastic brunch, service was impeccable and made our puppy feel extremely welcome. The Hot Cakes were a delicious alternative to pancakes. Will visit again with my dog if in the area!

Amazing place for a weekend brunch, very good food but kinda small portions. Very nice atmosphere!

Grangers and Co. has to be one of the top best brunch places in London. Perhaps even number one.
The food and atmosphere are always incredible.
Happy to come back all the time💗

The brunch was really delicious - rich in flavours, diverse and veggie friendly. Staff was also in a good mood.

Perfect spot to eat brunch near Farringdon. The décor is very modern and food is quite nice. Coffee is also very nice. They also have a good range of cocktails for daytime drinking. The prices are quite high but too be expected due to the area and cuisine.

Flawless food with best-in-class customer service.
We placed a complex order, but Simon and the team were truly exceptional. They finessed our meal with incredible speed, delivering the food to a gold-standard quality. We are beyond thankful for their help - the team was thrilled and our Granger & Co experience brightened our whole afternoon. The G&C Clerkenwell team (another shoutout to Simon!) are the type of people that really do make the world a better place ✨

Very nice (and expensive, yes) breakfast, the ricotta hotcakes are just wonderful, I am in fact still thinking about them and the honeycomb butter than was melting on them. Hopefully I'll eat them again next time I am in London! The sesame latte was okay though it left something of an aftertaste, and the staff was very nice. I suppose that given the price range and location one could expect the leather seats to be in better shape, but I would probably have left a 5 stars rating anyway if I had only had the hotcakes.

lovely breakfast/brunch spot! really friendly staff.
i would recommend the ricotta pancakes and scrambled eggs
i would NOT recommend the avocado toast it was plain , just sliced avocado on toast literally, which was disappointing for what it cost.

Food was amazing! Camilla the waitress was outstanding!! We were a group of 9 people and it was a bit of a nightmare to order everything but she helped us with the language barrier too and made us feel like home. We really recommended this place and absolutely look out for her if you need anything!!!!

Delicious brunch spot in City of London. Great Coffees and orange juice with ginger shots available to give your morning a little bit of perkiness. Interesting menu options including this particularly naughty Kimchi fried rice with soft shell crab. Great service too.

The only place that had a queue in the area. It is that good!

We tried the following:

-Toasted coconut bread and butter: delicious, very light!

-Fresh aussie: very filling plate. It is great to keep you going.

-Poached eggs: the eggs were good. However, it is not very filling.

Service is very slow, they even forgot to bring us the muffin which is ready.

Prices are fair.

Overall, good breakfast option next to Notting hill. Recommended!

Beautiful ambience to have delicious varieties of platters and drinks . The prices are reasonable, the staff is highly professional and friendly and the service is prompt and punctual as well.

I came back to Granger & Co because the first time I ate here the food was exquisite, both in looks and taste. This time round we shared the corn fritters and the jasmine smoked salmon. The fritters were very plain and uninspiring, and the salmon tasted absolutely foul. It was acrid, dry and honestly one of the worst pieces of salmon I have ever eaten. Presentation had gone completely out of the window too, which considering the amount of money you're being charged for basic food, should be a must. Only saving grace was lovely waiting staff, who were clearly very busy but still very attentive. Such a shame the meal was so awful.

Went to meet my daughter for lunch yesterday at Granger & Co Clerkenwell and was shocked by what was served to my wife. She ordered the chicken schnitzel which she thought at first was a little pink and under cooked but when she cut through the middle of the breast it was actually raw. The practices in the kitchen are clearly a problem but what angered me was the way they dealt with the matter. The waitress was appalled and immediately took the chicken back to the kitchen. The young supervisor/floor manager then arrived at our table and said it was actually a "vein" in the breast. No apology just excuses and an outright lie. I assured her the three of us on the table and her own waitress can verify it was raw. She continued with the excuses and no time accepted responsibility. Dangerous practices in the kitchen and failure of management to deal with the matter in the correct manner. I have never felt the need to review a restaurant before but our experience warrants this review.

Amazing place in London. I love the food. can’t wait to come back here again. Congratulations to the staff.

Located very close to the diamond district of London, its situated in a lovely area. Ambience was awesome, nice service and good food. While there were not too many vegetarian options, whatever was there it was awesome. I tried their aubergine spaghetti with walnuts, peanuts, peppers and some greens. It was lip smacking and a huge portion.
You can pair it with any wine of your choice.
Recommended for meeting up with friends or family. Its a got a very lively vibe.

I had heard a lot about this place and finally went there. Be sure to reach early or be ready to wait in a queue :)) it quite popular for Sunday brunches.

I had the avocado on sourdough bread with scrambled eggs and salmon. The avocado was super fresh and so was the salmon. I loved my creamy scrambled eggs and the chef happily made me an egg white only portion. Salmon was very fresh too and I savoured every bite of the whole plate swiping it clean.

And then enjoyed a latte made to perfection.

I must mention the heart warming hospitality which added a delight to the whole experience. I would definitely go back for more brunches at this place! Loved it.

Absolutely excellent breakfast !
I had heard so much about this place and it was all worth the hype . The place was buzzing and so lovely in the morning . The staff was very good and polite even though we had to wait too much for a table the wait was worth the food.

I had the scrambled eggs with avocado salsa on the side and the Bloody Mary. I’ve never had better eggs and a better breakfast Bloody Mary. Both the things were perfect !

Oh like chicken snitzel with a sweatcorn fritter side. Fab. Great atmosphere

Australians are passionate about breakfast/brunch. So it’s no surprise that Granger & Co is one of the most popular weekend brunch spots in London. First opened in Sydney by Australian restaurateur and food writer, Bill Granger, the restaurant rose to popularity in no time and soon started expanding internationally.

Londoners love brunch and Granger & Co is quite the 'It' spot for just that. It's got one of those 'you can't go wrong' menus with a wide variety of breakfast and lunch dishes to choose from, many with an interesting fusion twist to make it extra enticing. I had the soft shell crab kimchi bowl, which I highly recommend. It bust with sweet and spicy flavours, and is the perfect size portion. The atmosphere is vibrant (though acoustics are perhaps a bit loud) and the service is friendly and efficient. I also found it to be very reasonably priced. Highly recommend, though be prepared to Q and wait for a table.

When it comes to breakfast, cornflakes don’t cut it anymore.

That is to say, trekking down London’s very best fry-ups and other breakfast treats was a tough job.

But thanks to my friends’ will [and digestion issues endeavor] of gorging on awesome meals, we stumbled upon “The World’s Best Breakfast” and we found it at Granger & Co.

Every Bill Granger restaurant reflects the spirit I like to think of as ‘Australian’: sunny, easy-going and generous. Bill opened his first restaurant in Sydney’s Darlinghurst in 1993. It soon became loved for its legendary breakfasts, served at the famous central communal table, where locals and travelers, families and friends, continue to be welcomed. Twenty years later, Bill’s relaxed, friendly and infectious joy in good, fresh food has become truly global, and is enjoyed at his restaurants in Sydney, Seoul, Tokyo, Honolulu and London.

With a large dining room that’s as spacious and bright as the whole of London, verdant views over a churchyard, Granger & Co. dishes up the ultimate best ricotta-filled hotcakes with banana and honeycomb butter.

I leave you to the snapshots below.

Looking at Granger & Co from leafy St. James’s church garden over the road, this feels more like a village green than the middle of London. It's set in a relatively peaceful, green part of London. They serve interesting salads - for example, the Bondi salad with goat's yoghurt, feta and rose harissa (for a nice spicy kick) is not your average salad...

Been here a few times and it never disappoints. The Bills classic menu - scrambled eggs or corn fritter or the ricotta hot cakes are my main targets! Delicious! Coffee is made to high standard and this place is very consistently good

On a brisk winter’s day in London, we wanted to channel a bit of that Australian sunshine. We decided Bill Granger’s Granger & Co. in Clerkenwell might provide that cheerful boost we needed. Granger & Co has become of bit of brunch institution in London with three outposts of Bill’s eponymous restaurant in Notting Hill, King’s Cross, and Clerkenwell.

Just finishing up a meal here and can't wait to review. Granger & co. is the epitome of cheerful and delicious! The decor is bright and happy, with warm wood paneling on the ceiling, white clean walls, granite flooring and bar, and loads of mirrors and huge windows. Despite being overcast outside, it seems bright indoors. I also loved how diverse the clientele was...young couples, groups of laughing friends, and families with small kids. Everyone mixed well together, and smiles where all around!

Aside from the happy interior, the food and service make their customers all the merrier. We started with the Korean Fried Chicken. The chicken was crispy yet perfectly tender, accompanied by a spicy sesame chili sauce. For our mains, we had their grass fed beef burger. Absolutely amazing. The homemade tomato sauce and herb mayonnaise was really special, the beef was flavorfully seasoned and juicy, and the garnish, a thinly sliced cucumber, made an otherwise heavy burger very light and refreshing. This is a two hand, multi napkin kind of burger as you won't put it down.

The fries also are a treat. Lightly seasoned, you wish you had more!

All and all, this is a great fun place for a Sunday afternoon with your friends, family or special someone.

Like most things recently, my monthly brunch club had fallen by the wayside due to my increasingly busy schedule. I hated not having time to catch up with my friends so I was hugely thankful when Tom stepped in and suggested that we meet up at Granger & Co. Always up for eating somewhere new, I happily booked a table at the Clerkenwell branch of Australian Bill Granger’s restaurant.

Great fresh food. Kicked out after 4 hours (fair enough?) despite having spent over £300 in an empty restaurant on a Friday afternoon. Will I go back?! Probably not. Beautiful staff, incredibly rude management. Clearly don't respect guests. Fail phenomenally please!! Thank you.

Originally from Australia, Granger and Co are a chain of restaurants by Bill Granger, specialising in Breakfast as well as Australian cuisine such as BBQ items and hotcakes. It was recommended by a fellow foodie and I went for the shrimp burger and it tasted much better than I expected. the strange but wonderful combination of jalapeño mayo and sesame gochujang really delivered a powerful and spicy sensation to my palate with the shaved radish salad added the much needed sourness to offset the richness. However, be aware this is not a cheap and cheerful place as you would need to pay at least £20 pp just for 1 course and a soft drink.

The menu was in the classic Bill Granger style sounding light and fresh with a heavy dose of Asian fusion mixed in. There were some fun dishes, like the Korean Fried Chicken, where you could make your own lettuce parcels of chicken, herbs, lime juice and chilli sauce. The fresh goats cheese & flatbread was a winning start and I was pleasantly surprised by the French toast tiramisu dessert I had. I liked the rosehip & mint punch. Our waitress was knowledgable and friendly and there were awesome Aesop toiletries in the bathrooms.

However, too many of the dishes missed for me. Apart from the over abundance of chilli, the wrappers on the spinach and ricotta dumplings were too thick and doughy and the others didn't really come together as I hoped they would. I thought the pricing was a bit funny too, with all of the dishes nearly the same price, but the chicken a large portion and the charred baby corn just six pieces.

What's the deal with Aussies and brunch? Anyway, whatever it is, it's working well. Lots of great options for the more adventurous, to the more restricted in diet, with no compromise on taste and quality. Favourite things - coconut bread, off the breakfast menu, shrimp burger off the lunch menu. Usual selection of fritters, and bacon, avocados and chia seeds abound. Green cold press juices. Even tried a soy avocado coffee frappe. Not for me, but at least this place caters to all sorts! Bloody mary much more to my taste! A lovely location. One point off for bored and inattentive service.

Possibly my new favourite brunch place in London. It might seem an exaggeration to claim the whole of London but let's face it, at that hour I'm not trekking too far from base as chances are I'm not fully functional at brunch o'clock anyway. Nonetheless it sounds better and I'm happy to give Granger and go praise where praise is due. From the moment of booking the staff were super helpful.

... Dammit I need to get off a bus so gonna come back to finish writing later......aaand the app crashed on me when I finished the review so this is attempt #3! (angry face @zomato).

On phoning to reserve I was informed the menu changes at 12pm. So chose to book 11.30am to get the best of both menus. Worked out a treat. We were a group of 5 (2 arrived late) so of us ordered breakfast for starter and then lunch for main! For the more health conscious among our group was a wide selection of gluten free, dairy free, meat free, without any compromise on flavour. I fall more into the category of stress free when dining which it definitely was as we didn't have to scour with a fine comb for everyone in our group. The cocktail selection is pretty interesting too. I've not been doing so well in my acid test of Bloody Mary's of late but Granger's concoction made with clamato juice hit the spot. Couldn't resist staying for dessert too. Miso full!

Poor quality and value for money. I had dinner at Bill Grangers restaurant last Friday, 19th December 2014, and do not recall having such a poor meal in a very long time.
I ordered the shin of beef which was supposed to come with mash potatoes and green beans.
I was served a piece of "blubber" 100% fat, with a very small fist size of mash and 5 green beans, I counted!
For £20 a main course you would expect something decent, well I got home and had a bowl of cornflakes as I was left so hungry.
My dessert was a French toast tiramisu which I can only say was uninteresting and nothing to write home about, £7.50 for a very poor dessert. I had previously dined at Bills restaurant in Notting Hill and had a lovely meal so I was left very disappointed with the meal that I had on their Clarkenwell branch. I would not go back again.

Driest burger ever.....unappealing calamari. We had 3 meals. 2 out of 3 were very substandard. Beef burger was overdone and was driest and most tasteless and most expensive we've had in a v long time. Burgers need fat for flavour. There was none in this and it was overcooked. A calamari dish was under the salad section. I was expecting an interesting salad. Basically its a starter of fried calamari with a garnish of green papaya. Bad description coupled with underwhelming calamari. Squid bits were small and mean and all u could taste was fried batter.
We will not be back.

We headed down there to check out the brunch – and we’re pleased to report that it’s quite fabulous, actually. Granger and Co. Clerkenwell is all about simple dishes served casually. It’s the latest in a chain of restaurants serving fine but paired-back cuisine. There’s a relaxed approach to cooking here, with some quite exciting dishes making the brunch menu such as Kim Chee brown rice, miso porridge and courgette fritters with tahini. The unusual dishes are apparently the result of Granger’s travels. His cooking has both Hawaiian and Japanese influences, which explains why we’d not heard of many of the dishes on the menu – but we were determined to try as much as we could! What’s Gluten Free on the Granger and Co Menu? There are quite a lot of gluten free brunch options to choose from at Granger and Co, particularly if you are a fan of eggs. You can see the full menu here, but it changes a lot so it’s best to speak to your server on the day about the gluten free options on offer. We tried Bill’s freshly made orange juice (£3.30), which was refreshing and delicious, along with a pot of English breakfast tea by Rare Tea Company (£3.00), because you simply cannot start the day without tea, can you. We also ordered plenty of coffee – a flat white, Americano and latte. Caffeine makes us happy. Our Gluten Free Brunch Order For brunch we really went to town. Our favourite was bill’s granola, dairy free coconut yoghurt & fruit compote (£7.50). Coconut yoghurt was a new discovery for

Granger & Co Clerkenwell is an all day dining space, open from breakfast 7 days a week...All in all, Granger & Co Clerkenwell far surpassed my expectations. The menu is the most interesting breakfast menu I’ve seen in a long time and the dishes we had comfortably delivered on flavour.

Antipodeans all over London rejoiced the day that Aussie Chef Bill Granger set up shop in London, he brought with him a taste of home, in the form of the humble Sweetcorn fritter. At his Notting Hill branch, they’re served crispy and golden with a side of avocado and bacon, just the way I remember. So when I hear that he’s opened up a new outpost in Clerkenwell, I’m thrilled. I seem to remember Clerkenwell being a great deal grubbier in previous years, but when I head over, there’s a shininess and glamour coming from the streets and Granger & Co, perched right next to Clerkenwell Green is in the thick of it. The interiors are bright and airy, floor to ceiling windows and an abundance of creams, golds and pale wood. Tables are set decently apart and you can curl up against the banquettes and settle in for a good natter and since I’m in great company with fellow Bloggers, we barely take a breath between us.

The second London venture of Granger & Co. (the first one being in Notting Hill) is bright and modern. A chic white staircase leads you up to the dining room which overlooks a leafy corner of Clerkenwell. The food on offer is ....

We went for brunch one Saturday though, with almost too many options. There are juices, interesting grains (I like the sound of the brown rice and sweet miso porridge), different ways with eggs, and Granger’s famous ricotta hotcakes. We chose savoury – I had the broken eggs with ricotta, spinach, pine nuts and grilled sourdough (£8.50), which were more set scrambled in their skillet. A really lovely combination with the cool ricotta and creamy pine nuts.

West Londoners will know the name "Granger and Co." well associating it with hearty and delicious meals and a great cup of coffee to boot. To say they have been a roaring success is a gross understatement and even with the plethora of choice in Westbourne Grove area of Notting Hill, it's positioned itself as one of the best( if not the best in my opinion). So with that in mind, expansion was inevitable and so it was that Granger and Co. Clerkenwell came to be - my destination for breakfast on this sunny Sunday.

Ascending the stairs into the restaurant, I was taken by the modern decor with creativity befitting of the area; purposefully minimalist with sunlight streaming in through walls of floor to ceiling windows creating a vibrant and open dining space. And it is this surrounding which allows the food to assume centre stage; and it most certainly does.

With my January "health" binge in full flow and fighting every temptation to order the sweetcorn fritters with bacon, I went vegetarian this morning with courgette fritters served with a deep fried egg, halloumi, tahini yogurt and parsley salad and in truth, I'm glad I did because it was delicious, fresh and though fling, quite light. The fritters, coated in the tahini yogurt, were utterly moreish and leaves you wishing you had more.

However, good behaviour should not go unrewarded which conveniently justified an order of the ricotta hot cakes with fresh banana, honeycomb butter and maple syrup which was as devilishly good as it sounds and so fluffy, it was like eating a cloud.

So another location and another winner from the Granger and Co. brain trust. The question now is, where next?

Also follow me on Twitter @annixontong and @WeTryKai and on Instagram @annixontong.

It is always really annoying when one of your favourite brunch spots, also happens to be everyone else’s.

Granger and co is undoubtedly Notting Hills best brunch spot. Sorry to all the others, but it is true! Simple food, with a creative twist, it is a restaurant with scrambled eggs so good, it is worth the hour queue for. No egg-zaggeration!

You can imagine my delight when I discovered that they were opening a sister restaurant too. Unfortunately for me, it is in Clerkenwell, a good 45 minute trek from my west London pad. Anyway, it just so happened I was in town and took the chance to pop over before the locals cotton on and the queues ensue.

Armed with a parent and the papers, I headed on over to check it out and see i it was as good as its Notting Hill sister. It was also a great excuse to whack out my new favourite Toga Pulla booties. Just look at those beauties

It had taken us so long to get across town (we might have stopped off on the way for a cheeky peek at the amazing new Anselm Keifer exhibition at the Royal Academy) that we missed breakfast and had to order from the lunch menu. I was not egg-static to be missing out on a side of scrambled and smushed avocado, as I was anticipating but it turned out to be a blessing. I had not tried the lunch menu before and was in a pleasant surprise…

What we ordered: For starters we went for the zucchini (courgette) chips, which had been dusted in cornflower and fried to crisp perfection. Finished with a light smattering of black sesame seeds and served alongside a hefty dollop of tahini yoghurt and a wedge of lime. A lovely balance of creamy, rich and fresh.

Mains I went for tea-poached salmon, samphire with green soba and and a side of avocado. Dad couldn’t decide between the sweetcorn fritters with smoked bacon and tomatoes, or the calimari with chilli dipping sauce and shaved courgette salad, so we got both and shared the sweetcorn fritters. The salmon was beautiful and flakey but a little underwhelming. Having been poached in tea I was hoping for a little earthiness and more flavour but the result was a little plain. I would have gone for a lapsang (smokey tea) instead of earl grey to poach the fish in, had it been me. The noodles and samphire has a nice sesame dressing and worked really well the enhance the flavour of the salmon.

The sweetcorn fritters were sublime. The batter had a good pinch of earthy spices to bringout the sweetness of the corn and make the dish a little more exciting. The bacon was generously thick cut, righteously smokey and the tomato ripe and popping with sweetness. An overall A+ dish, I would certainly order again! Dad calimari looked good, but unsurprisingly my mitts weren’t allowed anywhere near. Not that I minded… just look at those fritters just waiting to be busted open! The only thing I wouldn’t have minded was a few shakes of that delish tahini yoghurt to drizzle over and a squeeze of lime

The Vibe : The overall feel of the place was very much chic new york airy loft meets, sleek Aussie laid back. Sleek white surfaces, big floor to ceiling windows all creating an open bright space. A clever perforated wooden ceiling, preventing any echoey noise reverberation around the room. The service was speedy, the witnesses helpful, warm and very knowledgable. From beginning to the end of our lunch the place was packed and I have no questions why. Granger and co have a formula and clearly they are sticking to it. I don’t doubt that in no time there will be a queue around the corner for this place too, so find an excuse to get their pronto and don;t worry if you miss breakfast, as Im sure you can tell, I was pretty happy with lunch too.

…Now, excuse me whist I get back to this weeks Sunday Time Style. There was a piece this week on fashion staples by Pandora Sykes and I just love her style!

I had a lot of fun during my recent visit to Granger & Co Clerkenwell. Aussie restauranteur Bill Granger’s latest restaurant in a selective global portfolio – which includes a well established eatery in Notting Hill along with outlets in Sydney, Tokyo, and Hawaii – features a playfully palate pleasing menu served in a comfortable and lavishly spacious dining room. Here are a few highlights from my dinner.

Granger & Co is an ideal venue for special occasions that you still want to retain something of a casual air. The space itself impressed me upon my entrance and throughout my meal with its clean line deisign, shear size and zero clutter. Service was efficient and helpful without being too cordial. And the menu was an absolute winner.

Self taught cook Granger’s kitchen yields decidedly comfort food fare skewed toward the Asian side of the Pacific and could possibly come across as overly contrived and a little wacky … until you actually take a bite of what’s offered. A perfect example is the rather-odd-sounding-but-believe-me-it’s-actually-delicious bonito, tofu, potato and parmesan pizza (£12), which I found was an excellent choice for sharing. The multi-napkin-necessary “small plate” of Korean fried chicken with iceberg lettuce, spring onion and chilli sesame (£8.50) was a good one for passing round the table as well.

A little less easy to share but nonetheless a tasty tuck was the shrimp burger with jalapeño mayo, shaved radish salad, and sesame gochujang (£15). A relatively more run-of-the-mill dish of sticky chilli belly pork with spring onion salad (£17.20) was an exceptionally pleasurable mound of deliciousness as well.

I wouldn’t say an accompanying bottle of Momo 2012 Marlborough Pinot Noir wowed, but it certainly more than satisfied and held steady without faltering across a range of menu items.

Prices were pretty expensive but quality was high and the concept was big on fun without being crass or cheesy.

After a successful launch of the Westbourne Grove branch, Australian chef turned Londoner Bill Granger has expanded his repertoire with a second branch of Granger & Co in Clerkenwell village.
This second venture is stunning in its creation. Located in a spacious bright and airy room with floor to ceiling windows, this modern restaurant is immensely inviting. A slick white staircase leads diners up to the main dining room which is decked out in light shades of creams and golds. The high ceilings and neutral flooring in conjunction with pale wooden tables makes this a very chic and serene destination.

In addition, not only is the space itself warm and welcoming, but so are the friendly and efficient staff who greet you.

Would I Want Seconds?

The food here is just as enticing as the venue. Offering up Antipodean flavours with splashes of South-East Asian there is a nice variety on offer. The menu has small and large plates but also widens out to a pizza and BBQ section.
We selected a range of dishes from the menu for us to try and share, giving a perfect overview of the menu. For starters there was korean fried chicken served with iceberg lettuce and spring onion, all to be wrapped up together and dipped into a delectable sesame chilli sauce.
From the small plates section we also sampled a beautifully light shrimp tempura with a unique red eye mayo which incorporated a hint of espresso within it. The vegetarian small plates included spring vegetable, pea shoot and feta salad garnished with just the right amount of mint and chilli. However, my favourite from the small plate section had to be the spinach and ricotta gnudi. I didn’t realise how much I liked gnudi until I tried this; made with ricotta rather than potato, gnudi is lighter and very moreish compared to gnocchi.

Next we tried the pizzas and what particularly stood out was the Bonito. A ingredient mostly found in Japan, these dried tuna flakes are known for the way the dance in the heat. Bonito was liberally sprinkled across the tofu, potato and parmesan pizza and to everyone’s delight they performed their party trick. This interesting combination of ingredients fused together really well, and similarly inventive creations can be found on the shrimp, fennel and salsa rossa pizza. For those who prefer the old classics, the heritage tomato, basil and buffalo mozzarella pizza was also very well done.
From the big plates section of the menu, we sampled deep fried sea bass served brazenly as a whole fish with the skin on, as well as tea smoked salmon with green tea noodles, samphire, daikon and soy mirin dressing. For the vegetarians amongst us we tried the baked butter beans, roasted cauliflower and paneer, spiced mango chutney. Although this is a Indian inspired dish, it did not have same strong spicy ingredients associated with Indian cuisine, instead it was a lovely mellow combination.
Dessert is always my favourite course and Granger & Co. didn't disappointed in this field.

I can never resist white chocolate and the white chocolate and pistachio pavlova, with strawberries and rosewater cream was divine in its gooey crunchiness. We also sampled the blueberry, lemon, mascarpone and ginger nut cheesecake, again using an interesting combination of ingredients successfully. Not only do the desserts here taste good, but they are also presented beautifully, just like the prosecco and elderflower jelly, served with copious amounts of summer berries, a perfect dessert after a large meal.
In this way, Granger and Co. serves up traditional comfort food in inventive and innovative ways. The menu is both familiar and daring at the same time, making it hard to decide which of the dishes to try.

Could I Afford Seconds?

Granger & Co. is lavish and this means that the prices are higher than standard too. The small plates cost an average of £8 and the big plates range from £13 - £17. The special dishes are priced slightly higher than this, for example, the Ashdale west country sirloin steak with watercress, horseradish and French fries is priced at £22.80. Additionally pizzas are about £8 each and the gorgeous desserts are approximately £6.

Although this can seem quite steep, the quality of the ingredients and food itself, as well as large portion sizes justifies the price significantly.

Overall:

Granger & Co. is a beautiful restaurant. The décor has a calming and serene effect to it which makes dining there a pleasure. This combined with the innovative fusion of Australian and South East Asian dishes make this restaurant a highly recommend must visit.

Antipodeans all over London rejoiced the day that Aussie Chef Bill Granger set up shop in London, he brought with him a taste of home, in the form of the humble Sweetcorn fritter. At his Notting Hill branch, they're served crispy and golden with a side of avocado and bacon, just the way I remember. So when I hear that he's opened up a new outpost in Clerkenwell, I'm thrilled.

I seem to remember Clerkenwell being a great deal grubbier in previous years, but when I head over, there's a shininess and glamour coming from the streets and Granger & Co, perched right next to Clerkenwell Green is in the thick of it. The interiors are bright and airy, floor to ceiling windows and an abundance of creams, golds and pale wood. Tables are set decently apart and you can curl up against the banquettes and settle in for a good natter and since I'm in great company with fellow Bloggers, we barely take a breath between us.

Our wonderful host Sarah has selected a wide range of dishes for us and everything is brought over to be shared. This woman deserves a prize for fabulous ordering skills, let me tell you.

The first thing I start off with is the Korean Fried Chicken served with Iceberg lettuce, spring onion and a sesame chilli sauce. Never before have I had Fried chicken that is quite so light tasting as this. I wrap up juicy spicy chunks in my iceberg lettuce, sprinkle in a dash of coriander and generously dunk into the sesame chilli sauce and crunch. I've made it to chicken heaven.

Whoever has been at the Shrimp Tempura is a dab hand with the light batter and the prawns are left to shine through with only the merest hint of a batter. But you want to order this dish for the Mayo. Called Red-Eye Mayo, it is quite possibly the best condiment I have ever had, on closer questioning it's a mixture of Espresso, Sriracha and Mayo blended together. If I concentrate really hard, I could taste the Espresso, but that may just be the power of suggestion at play.

In the camp of green things, Spring vegetable salad of green beans, courgettes, cucumber, pea shoots and feta seasoned with mint and chilli successfully marries contributing to my five a day whilst also tasting fabulous. The gnudi is new to me, essentially Gnudi (pronounced Nude-y) is very similar to Gnocchi, but lighter as instead of potato, it's made with Ricotta. I'd say they are closer to Dumplings on the scale and no surprises here, also delicious with a very light and delicate buttery sauce.

When the pizzas arrive, we have to make room on the table and say goodbye to some of the starter dishes that were so plentifully placed in front of us. A little moment of Sophie's choice as we try in vain to fit even more dishes on our table and like brave soldiers, we're forced to say goodbye to the old.

Bonito isn't an ingredient oft-seen outside of Japan and the dancing flakes on top of this unusual pizza featuring Tofu, Potato and Parmesan all seem to gel together in an interesting fashion. The shrimp and fennel is another interesting twist, while the tomato, basil and mozzarella is an old classic done well. I'm never an enormous pizza fan, so I content myself with ladylike nibbles on these as there is yet more to come!

Final courses (insert sigh of relief) are part of the Main plates, Sarah has chosen for us the Deep Fried seabass, tea-smoked salmon on a bed of green tea noodles, Indian inspired Cauliflower and Butter beans, BBQ belly pork and some more greens in the form of Broccolini with anchovy and chilli.

I love how the seabass comes completely whole crunchy skin on the outside but delicately flakes when we take to it with a knife, leaving behind succulent white flesh. The BBQ belly pork is rich and balanced well by the lettuce cups, but it is the tea-smoked salmon that has me licking my lips in delight. It's so delightfully refreshing and delicate, even for a somewhat oily salmon and leaves a lovely taste behind.

It's only the Indian cauliflower that I don't try, I rebelled against this dish plenty growing up and I'm not giving in now. I make up for it with a few mouthfuls of the broccolini though, salty and a little fishy, this packs a punch.

The meal is being washed down with the most excellent selection of wines, the French Rose slipping down a treat and balancing all the lighter options of the meal just so perfectly.

The array of desserts lifts our spirits even further. The white chocolate and pistachio pavlova is crunchy and gooey with a sprinkling of strawberries and rosewater cream. The cheesecake is quite different, featuring ginger nuts with a blueberry lemon marscapone topping in a chunky glass and the prosecco and elderflower jelly comes with a lashing of summer berries.

I'm in love with the elderflower jelly although after the heavy meal we've had, I do think the elderflower could be a little bit more pronounced but all these desserts are more-ish and the system of being able to dip your fork into sample meaty mouthfuls is a trend that I'm hoping sweeps along to more establishments.

Granger & Co. is currently my #1 brunch spot in London. It's a hidden gem in Clerkenwell village. Bill Granger is not called the "King of eggs" for no reason. I had the scrambled eggs and avocado and the eggs were perfectly cooked, with a smooth consistency.

What Joanna Ate
I keep adding to my cookery book shelves (Jason Atherton’s Social Suppers new this weekend, and a long list of wants, including the Morito and Honey & Co books). Some I just flick through and never quite get round to making anything from, others are a little ingredient spattered from lots of cooking. One of the most leafed through is Bill Granger’s Easy Asian, his style simple, fresh, all beautifully shot in the book.

His first London post of Granger & Co opened in Notting Hill, particularly known for the rather extensive brunch offering (Granger is Australian, and Antipodeans do seem to do brunch well – see Caravan for example). The second has just opened near me in Clerkenwell, tucked just between Clerkenwell Green and St John Street. It’s open all day, the menu including salads, pizzas, pastas, curries and other mains.

E had the sweetcorn fritter, roast tomato, spinach and bacon (£13.50) – fritters are hard to get right, often ending up as rather tasteless fried lumps, but these were great, nice and crispy on the outside. They needed the avocado salsa, but it would have been nice to have been included, rather than an extra £2.80. But the portions are pretty generous – important if you feel a little cheated from skipping breakfast or lunch for brunch. If you are still peckish, you can always take a look at the gleaming counter, full of biscotti, pastries, cheesecake and all kinds of other nice sweet things.
