Called in as another place nearby was full as I was looking for a Sunday roast. Choice of chicken or beef at Simplicity. Chose the chicken which was tender, lots of vegetables, gravy, separate bowl of cauliflower. Yorkshire dumpling on top so looked appetizing. I'm not a dumpling fan so left that. The roast potatoes were a bit too hard on the outside for my taste and no skin on the chicken but the problem was a piece of metal in the cauliflower. Luckily I had cut it up first so saw a dark spot not realising what it was at first. Told the waitress, offered a dessert or drink but I declined and was given 10% discount on payment. A bit disappointed overall but I'm just visiting so won't be back.
One other thing was that the restaurant was very cold.

The restaurant reopened today with a lovely list of tapas as well as a Bermondsey beef burger and fish fingers. Three of us ate halloumi fries,, fried greylings, Spanish potato tortilla, and a lovely grilled goat cheese salad. Fritters of homegrown courgette and apple crumble with homegrown apples were also on the list. The owner/chef served us himself and the atmosphere was calm and quiet, so we could chat easily.

This was my first visit to the restaurant in over ten years. It's a real hidden gem. I was delighted to find some classics still on the menu and the atmosphere is just a I remember it being. Lovely.

Delicious Sunday roast. Superb apple pie. Lovely owner.

Great little eatery. Host/manager was very welcoming and friendly, and despite being very busy served us, great food with good humour. Recommend the apple crumble he made with apples he’d picked from his garden that morning.

Oh wow! This nice little restaurant has been reborn. The chef and staff are so friendly and thoughtful, and customers are made to feel like they are part of the family. Food is superb. Had the French onion soup - it is certainly better than other French restaurants.

I’d been wanting to try Simplicity for a while and it exceeded my expectations! Warm, personable service alongside really good food - what more could you want? I’ll be back for sure.

Freshly cooked dishes, all flavours stand out and everything I’ve had was made with high quality ingredients. Also the service is very attentive. Have been there two times in three weeks already and will happily go again.

Created by the chef when we entered Sunday aftn. Very friendly and attentive. Excellent craft beer, light meal.

What a beautiful hidden gem. Found it by accident, so glad we did. Even with a member of staff missing they did themselves proud. Definitely coming back. Small constantly changing menu. Staff are wonderful. Food is fantastic. Want to give 6 stars, but there isn't one.

Delicious hidden gem. The menu is brought to you on a chalk board which was a bit quirky but the food is amazing. We had the sunday roast it was quite simply divine. The price was really good value for money.
The staff are really lovely and make you feel very welcome. The chef was very accommodating to dietary restrictions. We had a nice lovely intimate dinner and would highly recommend it.

Lovely hidden restaurant with great friendly staff. The chef came and spoke to us and thanked us for our custom. We had roast dinner with pork and slow toast pork belly. Best roast I have ever tasted! Highly recommended

The food was excellent and the owner was great with service especially with low staff and a busy dinner rush.

Chanced upon this place while visiting Rotherhithe. Was impressed by the cuteness of the little place. Simple, quaint, almost no-frills but there's much charm that one cannot put a finger on. Perhaps it's the little garden outside the window right by our table. Perhaps it's the warm, down-to-earth, non pretentious service by the 2 young ladies. Perhaps it's the amazing quality of the wine I ordered.
The food was among the best I've ever tasted in London. Not the fancy, Michelin-starred type of "best" but very wholesome. You know that the chef cares about the quality of the food he serves, unlike most places anywhere in the world today. The food is the type that a good mother would serve her own children.
It was going to be one of my last days on this trip to London. I decided to not rush but to savor the food and sip the wine slowly. What serendipity that the chef came over to say hello, and then introduced me to his glamorous days of sailing around the world. It's such quiet, simple encounters like this that makes this restaurant special. Simple food, simple conversations. Pure simplicity; much needed in our world today.

The food is good, the staff are lovely - the rose wine was delicious. It offers classic dishes with a makeover in a cute restaurant tucked away in Rotherhithe Village with a terrace, perfect for hot summer days. Recommend.

I've been to this place a few times. It's a lovely quiet location near Rotherhithe Station. The service was always warm and friendly, and I always enjoyed the food. Had their home made chocolate mousse cake when I went there last time. It was AMAZING. This is honestly my favourite restaurant in London, and I hope they will recover fully from the impacts of COVID and operate at full capacity soon as I really miss their pork belly :) Will keep coming back!

I really like Simplicity. Understated and very cosy. An undiscovered place in Rotherhithe which always deliver. The menu changes regularly. It's possibly slightly hidden away as it deserves to be busier than it is. We come here regularly when we are looking for a local restaurant meal. Always a warm welcome and reasonably priced.

Wonderful place, Lawrence is a great chef and the location is really beautiful: little, warm and with great food. Thank you for the perfect dinner.

Unfortunately, the roast pork belly was dry and felt it was pre-cooked and put back in the oven for orders. The crackling was too salty. I usually look forward to a pork belly main but this was absolutely worse then school dinner standards. The entree garlic prawns had no taste. The apple crumble, oh my, was floury, mush with no crunchy top. Don't waste your money unless the chef improves the food standard. Forgot to mention, the wait staff had no idea and was most of the time not around, or eating her own dinner in the garden.

We turned up on spac with 4 people and enjoyed a lovely meal with local beer.

We turned up in announced 10 of us last night and they moved tables around and sat us within a few mins, chef/owner came out to great us and the staff were warm and friendly, we were quite noisy but that didn't phase them. When the food arrived which took some time but 10 x fresh meals will take time. Well worth the wait the food was incredible. Only disappointment was we couldn't fit in dessert as the main filled us up. We are so glad we are so glad we stumbled across this gem on our way to Brunel museum. Well done to all the team. Excellent

The choice on the menu was limited and the Belly Pork was TOO salty and spoiled the meal

Wonderful surprise. We visited Simplicity last night for a late dinner and had a fantastic meal.
On arrival we were greated by a friendly and attentive server who answered all questions we had regarding the daily specials with a smile.
Our food was both tasty and plentiful, all obviously cooked with care and attention, the prices in relation to quality was absolutely awesome.
We would absolutely recommend this restaurant, we are currently making plans to go back ourselves in the next few weeks.
Thank you.

Recommended!. I lived nearby Simplicity for my first year in London but didn't get around to visiting. After 2.5 years abroad I finally got around to visiting last night - now I definitely wish I had gone earlier. Excellent menu in my 'simplistic' opinion - I don't like overly complex and extravagant menus so this one was perfect for me and my sister. Outstanding food, service was attentive, good prices and the whole place had a good vibe. Would recommend it to anyone else venturing to this area of London.

FANTASTIC. I had a great meal last night at Simplicity. We were occupanied by some friends who were visiting from Toronto and especially wanted to have dinner at Simplicity. There was a good choice and we all stumbled on what to have (it was pretty late as well although didn't at all feel the need to rush).

The food was cooked impeccably, the ambience was lovely and it was enjoyed by us all.

Thank you everyone!

Lucy

Response from the owner. Hello Jeffrey,

I remember your visit to Simplicity a few weeks ago. My manager asked you if anything was wrong with your meal as she noticed you weren't eating the fish and chips, but you told her there was absolutely nothing wrong. As you were leaving, I also asked if you'd enjoyed your meal and you then told me there was a problem. I offered to put things right but you were leaving.

All the staff at Simplicity take great pride in our work and do everything we can to ensure our guests leave happy, with a positive experience.

It saddens me that you feel able to post your views online but were unable to talk with me or my staff in time for us to ensure your experience was more positive.

Best wishes,

Lawrence.

Simply Not The Best. We stopped here for lunch today (sunday 16th May) whilst in London for the weekend. We had read reviews about the place and had been keen to try it.
The menu looked interesting with good range of brunch type food with small selection for lunch. As we had Breakfast at Cafe Rouge near London Bridge we opted for lunch.
We ordered Chicken Salad and Fish and chips. The latter a signature dish. The salad was okay if a bit like KFC in a soggy rather than crisp salad. The fish and chips was presented nicely but batter was soggy not crisp and clearly not drained - possible due to being cooked in oil that was not hot enough. The chips (around 10) were presented in a tower, more style than substance and in our view the potatoes were boiled before the chips were fried. Overall it was tasteless and not worth the 30 minutes it took to serve.
We had been tempted to leave on sitting down to find the table rather sticky but decided to stick it out! Rather surprised to later find out that the sticky table was a known problem due to reaction of table to cleaning products - maybe a table cloth might help.

I've heard good things about the roast dinners in the evening when the owner comes out to play, but I've only ever been for breakfast there and it is not good. I've given it numerous chances, thinking it may be just a blip, but not so.

The orange juice has some sort of gloopy substance in it, certainly not native to the orange. The eggs take a long long time to come, so long that we enquire after them. Twice.

For some reason, the staff seem only able to bring out one thing at a time, whether it be salt shakers for the table, a glass of juice, a coffee, whatever it may be.

The marmalade is delicious, but ultimately arrives with cold toast. And marmalade alone is not a reason to visit a restaurant, no matter how good.

This is my local and I'd like nothing more than to come here for my Sunday brunches, but alas.

Their dinner and Sunday roasts are fantastic and very good value for money. Friendly environment and good wine too. However, their breakfasts let them down so make sure you go for dinner rather than a fry up. Particularly good on weekend nights when the owner is also the chef. They to lamb REALLY well and their apple crumble is worth finding extra room for...

Hidden gem with great simple food. Good place for a romantic wine and dine!
