DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE IN LONDON..

Must try the mouthwatering dimsum and tempura..

Sushi was so heavenly delicious.. It was my first time that I tasted sushi and I am pleased with it..

The ambiance was splendid, the performances was exciting and engaging,..

The food is great and so are the drinks. Plus the acts are varied throughout the night from knife throwers to signing drag queens so if you are looking for a night to be entertained Circus provides just that.

But overall the service, staff, food and ambiance was amazing. Definitely recommending and visiting again!

Pretty decent food although portions are quite small. However, the added live entertainment. Pre dinner bar and after party really adds to the evening. A great place for a special occasion.

Dinner? Pan Asian plates paired with inventive cocktails. I particularly liked my Miso Black Cod main (with pickled baby ginger & lime, £32). Kemey loved her Soft Shell Crab Salad starter (with green mango, lotus root and sweet tamarind dressing, £12). Cocktails were tasty too. My Casa Ananas (Mezcal San Cosme, fresh lime juice, red chilli syrup, pineapple, apricot brandy, smoked chilli salt, £10). Kemey’s Red & Ginger (Perrier-Jouët, rhubarb liqueur, home made rhubarb, lemon, bourbon vanilla, ginger root purée, £12) was a fresh and flavoursome take on a Bellini.

So just the other night I ended up at a Circus believe it or not. OK well not exactly, but it felt like it, and the weirdest part – I was in the centre of Covent Garden. Circus restaurant opened up a few years back and since then has been one of London’s best entertainment hotspots. When you think London couldn’t possibly give you any more – it gives you circus. An insanely bizarre and fun restaurant full of acrobats, fire eaters, dancers, hula hoopers, delicious cocktails and a Pan-Asian food menu overlooked by head chef, Andrew Lassetter.

One of London’s most glamorous women had her 40th birthday recently. A Southern Belle hailing from New Orleans, she is married to a clever and charming Englishman and has subsequently made her home here, collecting along the way a posse of equally cosmopolitan friends. Predictably, her celebrations were going to be an extraordinary event and the Lovely Husband and I were privileged to be invited to join the party. 22 people gathered for food and entertainment at unusual cabaret restaurant and cocktail bar, Circus in Covent Garden.

Sometimes you just want something a little extra with your dinner… A little bit of escapism, an extra dimension to your standard three courses with wine… And that’s where Circus London comes in. It’s not a venue you’ll go back to every week, but it’s definitely somewhere you’ll recommend to friends when they’re looking for a night out that offers sophisticated dining with a quirky, cool, entertaining edge.

So what goes on?! Circus in essence is a cabaret club serving up top quality acts between courses, with an excellent menu to match. You might expect a place like this to deliver highly with the food or the entertainment, but we were blown away by the level of service, the staff and the presentation of the dishes and of the acts.

We arrived just after 7.30 on a Wednesday night. Already the restaurant was in full swing, pretty much all of the tables occupied – one huge ‘quartz’ table which can sit up to 28 peoples doubles as the stage. For this reason, all tables are positioned so you great a great view from wherever you’re seated. The restaurant itself is an explosion of personality and a reflection of the off-the-wall action you’re going to see. It’s re-launch at the end of last year has brought the interior down a notch. Some of silver and gold bling remains, but with a more stylish, minimalist edge. It’s a beautifully contemporary space, with some French chic influences, beautiful lights and lighting and a somewhat eclectic mix of banquette, table and more loungey seating which together, just all works perfectly.

Lucas the manager is amazing. Although I’m not sure how long he’s worked at Circus, I have a feeling he’s turned this place around – in the past I’ve read some not so great reviews, but fast forward to 2016 and Circus is a recipe for success. He explained to us how the menu has evolved to offer an extra dimension to the standard pan-Asian cuisine you’ll find in many restaurants. Interestingly, the influences are quite Mexican – spicy and smokey with plenty of chipotle! I couldn’t wait to order. Lucas explained that the cocktail menu had also been dreamed up mainly by the native Mexican barman Oscar – ‘a crazy scientist’ with a penchant for experimenting with flavours and ingredients. Big groups can indulge in the party punch bowls which serve around 20 people; there’s also an extensive list of champagnes (and sakesurprisingly) and a really good selection of red and white wines.

We ate. A lot. Because when we started ordering, we just couldn’t stop. As the dishes started arriving, they were so delicious and so different, that we just wanted more! Our feast began with a selection of starters. Lightly battered giant sized padron jalapeno’s (£10.50) with quite a kick, oozing mozzarella to balance the spice. Great big chunks of lobster tempura with white truffle aioli and lemon ponzu (£28) were served with the most delicious truffle mayonnaise, which was so good, we kept it on the table for our mains! Soooo tasty and reminiscent of really posh fish and chips! Our favourite starter though (which came highly recommended by Lucas) were the chicken truffle shumai dim sum (£7.95). Normally, I’m not a fan of dim sum, but these were just amazing – slightly crispy on the outside and the flavours which came through with that first bite were sensational with the chicken and truffle combined. We were about to order another four, but then the first acted started! Taking to the stage first, it’s fair to say this guy was athletic – spinning, twisting and turning on the ropes – his control was amazing. Throughout the course of the evening, we were also treated to performances which included a guy on roller skates break dancing across the table, a brilliant female fire eater which came with a bit of immersive drama, some topless action (it’s for over 21’s normally) and a grand finale which can only be described as acrobats on motorcycles. Every act lasts only a few minutes but they’re all totally engaging and enjoyable to watch. They also change each night, but you’ll always get to see a selection of theatrical talent – acrobats, contortionists and ariel hoop performers with a risqué edge.

Equally as engaging were our main courses. The miso black cod with pickled ginger and lime (£32) was simply divine and was beautifully soft – the ginger a perfect kick to compliment its delicate flavour. A smoked aubergine side with white miso, palm sugar, chipotle and chili (£5.50) might not jump out at you from the menu, but your tastebuds will most definitely thank you for it. And the black Angus fillet (£25) served with shitake mushrooms and balanced on soft asparagus spears with a caramel soy on the side was absolutely to die for – I mean caramel soy – simply delicious.

Never a fan of Chardonnay normally, Lucas thought we might like the Brownstone Chardonnay £29.50 – a lightly fruity Californian balance of pear, pineapple and citrus with a really nice rich finish. We did and were both reaching for our Vivino apps at the first mouthful – it’s definitely a bottle I’d like to drink more of!

Later on in the evening, word has it that Circus gets pretty lively, although on a school night, we couldn’t stay to find out! Dancing on the tables and a DJ on the weekends keep this place full of life into the early hours and after such an adrenalin fuelled experience, it’s easy to see how!

Circus are lifting their usual over 21’s policy for Mother’s Day, so over 16’s can treat their mum’s to a fabulous three course lunch on Mothering Sunday with reservations available at 12.30pm and 1pm on March 6th. Book here, trust us, this place has to be seen to be believed.

10/10.

Goat's cheese is one of the most common "don't eat" ingredients people mention when they book my pop ups, even when it's not on the menu. It's a really divisive ingredient, which is sad as there are so many types of goat's cheese that I struggle to believe that those who say they don't like it have tried all the variants. The hard goat's cheeses are so mild and creamy, and nothing like the soft, pungent versions that are what I think turn people off this type of cheese. Personally, I eat almost everything (bar tripe and baked beans), and adore cheese, particularly goat's cheese. Not only is goat's cheese delicious and versatile but it's also better for you then cow's cheese is, as it's lower in fat and cholesterol, has more protein, higher amounts of vitamins A and B6, and it's easier for the body to digest, as although it has similar levels of lactose to cow's cheese, it has small fat particles, so is often eaten by those who can't eat cow's cheese.I've come up with a couple of recipes using goat's cheese below, and if you want more inspiration on what to do with goat's cheese, and which type of goat's cheese is best for certain recipes, then you can get out a whole plethora of information on it here. My first idea isn't really a recipe that uses goat's cheese, but instead it's a delicious chutney which you can serve with goat's cheese and crackers. You can substitute the plums, apples and pears for whatever's in season - butternut squash would work well, as would rhubarb when that's back in season. In summer you could even make this with nectarines or peaches.PLUM & APPLE CHUTNEYThis will make quite a bit of chutney, but it will keep in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to a month.Slice 6 plums, 2 apples and 2 pears into small chunks. Add to a pan with 2 sliced shallots (I used purple shallots), a crushed cloves of garlic, some star anise, ginger powder, chilli flakes and about 150g golden caster sugar. Add 150ml white wine, red wine or cider vinegar (depending on the main fruit you're using) and let it bubble away on a medium heat, stirring occasionally to stop it catching at the bottom, until it's reduced down a chutney consistency. Remove from the heat, allow to cool and serve as part of your cheeseboard, or spread on bread before making a goat's cheese sandwich.

A couple of weeks ago, pre-ankle injury, and wearing a pair of heels for the first time in forever, I tottered down to Covent Garden for the re-launch of newly refurbed bar/restaurant/cabaret venue, Circus. I've said before that I'm lucky enough to be invited to some pretty cool places because of my blog, and this was definitely one of those. You walk into Circus through an almost unmarked door, and a huge room opens up in front of you. A large table runs down one side of the room while the rest of the space is filled with regular tables, and a cocktail lounge at the back which is where we headed to start our evening. I'll get to the bit later where I say you have to go to Circus for a night out, but if you can't go for the whole thing, then you must go to try the cocktails. They're real works of art. Even the cocktail menu is beautiful, with each drink illustrated by the very talented Andrea Wan. I started with the most delicious cocktail. Made from Mezcal San Cosme, fresh lime juice, red chilli syrup and apricot brandy, it was served with a little dish of pineapple chunks that had been dusted with smoked chilli salt. Libby, my plus one for the evening, wasn't drinking but they made a gorgeous fresh juice mocktail for her, which tasted almost as good as my cocktail.Â

For birthday celebrations, we try to find somewhere new. Circus London was an exciting find, and not just for the food, pan Asian fusion, but the entertainment was fun too!

I'm a big circus enthusiast, so when I stumbled across the website, we had to go here for my birthday and this restaurant was the perfect combination for me. We ordered quite a few plates as we wanted to try everything and it all was delicious! Every half hour or so there will be a performance on the large table.

I definitely recommend his place if you are looking for somewhere fun and different. Overall, I had a wonderful birthday dinner.

We had:
Soft shelled crab tempura
Wild mushroom spring roll with truffle sour cream
Beef foie gra gyoza with edamame and teriyaki sauce
New York strip loin on hot rocks with truffle terriyaki
Thousand leaf salad rolls. Roasted pepper, enoki mushroom, pickled burdock, avocado and sesame ginger
Canadian lobster, Sichuan spinach, chili and garlic

Raspberry meringue, seasonal berries, white chocolate, lime and ginger sorbet

Chocolate and caramel fondant. Green tea ice-cream, lychee and raspberry shot

Andy Pandy. I went here for brunch on Sunday and had a funny experience - it was hosted by a guy who goes by the name of Piff the Magic Dragon. He awarded me a point for coming all the way from Eastbourne, then deducted a couple because I was a messy eater. By the end of the brunch (which was utterly delicious) I felt like Piff was my new best friend, albeit a grumpy friend. Muchos fun. To be repeated with more friends.

The quirky madness of Circus hits you as soon as you walk through the door and if you're dressed up and ready for a fun night, this place has the perfect atmosphere. From the hostesses waiting to greet you at the door to the beautiful performers dancing up and down the main table to the smart and friendly bar staff, Circus is ideal for groups wanting to party.

We hadn't reserved a table but managed to find a couple of seats in the bar area where we could still see the dancers. Most of the acts were really interesting and enjoyable, but there were also a few 'what did I just watch?!' moments.

The food was suprisingly well done considering it's not the bar's main attraction. We had a mixture of starters and sides to snack on including dim sum, sashimi and tempura squid. Although they were small portions and slightly on the expensive side, it was all delicious. I did feel a little under-dressed and overwhelmed going here for midweek after work drinks but this place would be ideal for a big work party, birthday or other special occasion.

Friday night dinner with friends at Circus. We booked about a month before we wanted to attend, so that we would get a good table, and we were in a great place.

Entertainment was a little hit and miss. Some of it we were in awe of, and other elements we just didn't really understand.

Food wasn't too bad at all. Starters and mains were well presented and tasty.Staff were a little all-over-the-place, but still friendly.

The menu advises 2 courses minimum per person, and you'd probably need that as they're not huge. Ultimately looking at around £45-£50 per head minimum...

Though the place is quite expensive but at the end, it's all worth it. The food was excellent and was perfectly cooked with a range of dishes on the display. The drinks, especially the cocktails were just out of the world. Along with this there was a fire eater dancing show going on our table as well which kept us hooked. I had a great time here and would love to visit again.

The bartenders who work at this place are really good at their jobs. Although at the outset, the bar looks very unremarkable and nondescript, it is truly a piece of art. The designs are amazing and the decorations are truly top-notch. There are periodic entertainments with misc performers accentuating the performances of cabaret dancers and the accompanying acrobats. They have an amazing selection of cocktails, and the bartenders are experts in mixing drinks. This is really the place to go to for an amazing night.

The concept here is the main attraction, in my opinion. This place is costly, however it is because they offer a free show to all their customers every half an hour unlike a lot of other places! This place is a good option for authentic Asian food in the neighbourhood. We tried the yummy red curry with saffron rice, both of which tasted fabulous and flavoursome. Creating a real sense of adventure and a wow factor you don't often expect from the meal-time entertainment, Circus is a brilliant venue for a special occasion.

The food isn't left behind by the gallivanting performers either, offering a small but diverse menu that flips and twists the tongue with flavour. If you're not wanting to eat out, Circus provide a separate bar with a host exotic cocktails to get your tastebuds going.

I definitely recommend booking in advance if you want to get a table at a reasonable eating time and I'd warn that the theatricality is only topped by the prices. All in all, a great spot to celebrate any occasion.

Circus is perfect for a birthday celebration or a special occasion. It will definitely be one of the most unique dining experiences you'll ever have. If you can, try and book a table near the stage as it allows for the best views of the action. Obviously, the décor, atmosphere and vibe is very energetic, exciting and fun. In terms of the food, there's always the expectation that it may slip from attention being focuses on the show, but I was pleasantly surprised. The mushroom steak was perfectly cooked and very succulent and juicy. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, but I think the novelty would wear off after numerous visits.

If you have something to celebrate , this is the restaurant to be! Exciting, extravagant, fun, different, you name it, this restaurant has every ingredient you need for a fabulous evening. I found it by chance online while looking for best unusual restaurants in London. I didn't know what to expect until I got there. If you're going with friends, try to reserve a seat at the stage table, that's what all the fun happens.
Steps away from Covent Garden station, the restaurant is very central. There are no appearing signs indicating the restaurant's entrance but the hat of the tall door man, ready to welcome you in. You then pass a long mirrored hall where you check your reservation. You then open the big doors to reveal the circus! Usually they keep you at the bar to wait for your table. The decor is very nice and modern, very much matching the extravagance of the circus. I haven't really tried many cocktails, but the Blood peach Bellini is exquisite. To sit at the "stage table", there is a minimum spending of £55 for 3 courses, but it's really worth it.
The way it works is that circus shows take place on your table, 10 centimetres away from your drink. Dancers, acrobats , and actors come up on the table between every meal.
The cuisine is Japanese Fusion. Creative and tasty, the dishes are full of different flavors from around the world. The best starter to have is beef & foie gras gyoza, which is just delicious. For the main, I tried both the Scottish black angus fillet and the New York strip loin with its truffle teriyaki sauce, and they are both succulent. However, if you like having something different like me, go for the New York strip loin as it comes on hot rocks, while still cooking, and you can actually monitor the cooking of your meat. After dinner, the circus continues. Although the last show ends with the last course, the party goes on on the weekends. After dinner, the staff moves the stage table to the side to make place for a dance floor, yep! And with the DJ raising the music volume , try to stop yourself from dancing until 2 am in the morning! So if you're celebrating, Circus is definitely the place to be!

Nice Meals and Creative Atmosphere

I visited this restaurant with my girlfriend.

The looking from outside made me curious but skeptic at the same time. Actually the place was nice and the quality of the meals was high and the meals looked like proper Pan Asian cuisine.

We ordered yellow tail sashimi and vegetarian sushi selection, and both were tasty and very nicely adorned.

We also had “new york strip loin” on hot rocks and that was really nice.

Besides, we liked the atmosphere in the restaurant. It’s really well-designed and decorated.

The cost for two persons was £90 including a nice bottle of Prosecco.

Tasty menu, refreshing cocktails, amusing shows, brilliant service. Didn’t appreciate the club-like venue or the hefty prices though.

I can’t really speak for the food since I was mostly there for after-hours drinks and some nibbles. The Dim-sum that we did have was pretty amazing though. If you order anything from their starter menu, make it the Beef & Foie Gras Gyoza. Its lack of crisp on the outside is forgivable thanks to its juicy and succulent nature. Steer clear of the Pumpkin & Chive Spring Rolls and opt instead for the Seared Pepper & Tuna Pancetta, if you don’t mind the 4 Pound markup. I would love to come back here and try the rest of their menu sometime; namely the Chilli Miso Black Cod or the Sirloin with Truffle Teriyaki sauce.

The cocktails are made up of some interesting blends that you’ll want to mix & match. All cocktails go for 10 Pounds, which is more than some deserve, but it does encourage a little variety. I definitely recommend the Cuba Libre and the Scotch & Sloe for the most refreshing inebriation you won’t remember (they pack an unsuspecting punch). I would also advise the Olmeca Perfecta for something a little different; the Tequilla, liquer and fresh vanilla are a winner. The cocktail you’ll want to avoid is the Kentucky Orange, which sounds as great on paper as it looks, but tastes like one of my old college roommate’s failed experiments. Bourbon and Cointreau don’t mix well ; live and learn.

The shows were amusing, if not entrancing. You’re treated to a fresh act on the main stage every 30 minutes or so which usually involves  beatbox tap-dancing, Aerial hoola-hoop acrobatics and a fire-show (and more). The stage doubles as  a large dining table you can book, although I don’t recommend this since the seating is slightly awkward and, depending on where you sit, you’ll have to hold on to your drinks once the shows start.

More enchanting than the performers are the staff, (only exception being the bouncer). Within 20 minutes of being seated, we felt like we had become BFFs with half the staff serving at and around our table. Our waitress had a wicked sense of humour and wasn’t shy about recommending her favourite drinks or Dim Sum. This is a major point booster for me. Having worked in a restaurant before, I appreciate a waitress/waiter that's able to give a genuine opinion on the menu.

The decor, while extravagant, could use a fresh coat of paint, some more ambient lighting or at-least some modest refurbishing to bring it that much closer to the feel of Roka or Sushi Samba, as I presume it aspires to be given their price range. Granted, the food on its own isn’t exactly revolutionary and the shows aren’t David Blaine-esque either. You won’t find anything new but what you get instead is a pleasantly blended combination of all these things in one intimate setting. Its great if you’re looking for something tasty, exciting and different, not so great if you're on a budget or with anyone that likes quiet dinners. I definitely recommend it to any guys with a first- date they’d like to impress. The scantily clad performers, deceptive drinks and charming staff also make it great for birthday dinners and bachelorette parties. Just make sure its a big group, and no one comes feeling frugal.

My friend booked the 'top table' at Circus for her 30th birthday party. It's certainly pricey, at £65 for the 3 course set sharing menu for groups though that did kindly (!) include a glass of prosecco. I kind of knew what to expect, as a few people had explained the concept and how the night works - but for those of you who don't know, between each course a circus act performs on the top table (so right in front of our face!)
The entertainment was pretty good, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. The starters were mixed sushi, edamame and chilli squid. They were all good,  and the way that the sharing worked (between 2 of you) meant that the portions were large and we got a good few samples of all dishes each. The mains were outstanding - salmon teriyaki was soft and suitably flaky with a beautiful unami-rich marinade. Soy fillet steak arrived gorgeously pink and melt-in-the-mouth. A vegetable thai yellow curry was well balanced and packed full of chunky veg which was appreciated by the veggies. Dessert was, in comparison, a disappointment - an individual cheesecake and chocolate lollipop, The cheesecake wasn't sweet enough and just didn't really do it for me.
After the shows, the tables are pushed back and the restaurant becomes a dancefloor which is good fun. Definitely a unique experience, and one for a special occasion. Just be prepared for a wallet-bashing!

Agree with the previous comment that this is quite expensive, however it’s not something you do every weekend, or even every month! As a concept this place is fantastic, it fuses together, the circus, cabaret, cocktail party, restaurant, bar, and pan Asian cuisine! So when reviewing it, one could easily point at the prices and say ‘that’s a lot for a thai curry’, but you have to factor in that the bill should be viewed in the context of your entire evening. (Although I did wince a little when a bill of £300 came for the 4 of us) Cost aside I did have a fantastic time, this was my second visit and the shows were a nice variation on what I had seen before. The performances come alive throughout your meal, but it happens in such a seamless way, it all feels part of the meal, which is great. The circus master is a lot of fun and regularly interacts with the audience. So if you are up for a good time, and are not too stuffy this place is worth a visit

Nice place but where we were sat the ceiling meant some if the performance was obscured which was disappointing. Food was average. It was be nice as a vegetarian to have something other then mushrooms. The drinks were nice but pricey. Good to experience it at least once.

Such a fun experience! We feel so lucky as we accidentally doubled booked our schedule without realizing it. Thankfully Sergio was so understanding and helpful and managed to change us to a new time and table! Totally saved our night. Then Natalia was such an awesome waitress. She was so friendly for my birthday and very fast and responsive. The entire venue is set up so well! Great night!

We had a large group gathering on Saturday night at circus restaurant, located in Covent garden with easy excess by underground. Obviously, the place isn’t for a person with “ a great palate “ but more for a great night with food and entertainment . The interior is nice and dynamic prepared for performance , music and food, which is Asian fusion . Staff are very attentive and helpful. Space are limited . We were around 16 old friends to celebrate birthday 🎂 . The concept was good , we enjoyed ourselves with the acts . Our table was much smaller than expected and we could literally not have enough space to enjoy our food and drinks . We ordered set menus . Food was better than expected but could be improve a lot with a bit more attention and fresh ingredients rather ready made, such as gyoza ! Never seen edamame was served in Ice but a new experience . On all acceptable for average palate . Staff were amazing as well manager . I strongly recommend Circus , if you’re not too fussy about food and can enjoy the ambiance , acts and music . A Gold star to DJ as he was fantastic. I will definitely go back for a memorable night but not recommend to anyone who is expecting "mise en place" ! Please follow me on Instagram! My friend took me here for my birthday, and what a treat!! The food was out of this world, service was a little slow, and didn’t seem well-planned around the acts, and the atmosphere took a while to warm up due to a less-than-enthusiastic crowd, but I loved it, will definitely be back!

Excellent food and service and great entertainment in-between. Visit here if you want something different. With entertainment appearing in half hour intervals throughout the night. We had a restaurant table although you can also get the long main table in the restaurant if you want the entertainment on your table for a close up view. The Asian cuisine was delicious. We had the bar snacks and had about 6 items which was enough to leave us satisfied.. I have also been here for a networking event which I have to say is a pretty innovative location. Both times I enjoyed myself and the staff were excellent.

We had a great time at Circus. The service was fantastic. Our server, Paola, was very attentive - refilling out prosecco nearly as soon as we finished the glass. She was very friendly and nice as well! We loved the show - it was entertaining and fun. This place is perfect if you're celebrating something special, or on a date. We had a great time

Had an amazing night here! Really good service, amazing entertainment (although I wish there were more performers) and lots of yummy drinks and food. Definitely recommend the tuna sushi. It was expensive, but that’s to be expected as this is more of a special occasion restaurant.

I had an inquiry and emailed the venue. I receive a response within 15 minutes with all the information I needed. I booked for my daughters 21st birthday and have to say the service was amazing, the entertainment was fantastic and the atmosphere was epic. The bar staff are so friendly and welcoming they make the best cocktails. I have to say the staff are the backbone of The Circus, they’re hosting skills are superb.
