Overall, a really nice little cafe. The menu had so much choice. Coffee was quite nice and there were dairy-free alternative milks on offer (at a cost). The staff were friendly and the service was fast. I had poached eggs and bacon on toast. When it arrived, I had to ask for butter to put on the toast as it was un-buttered sourdough topped with poached eggs and bacon. Once I had loaded this on however, it was nice enough. Nothing to write home about, not not a bad place. Nice decor and a great spot.

I live around the area and I always wanted to try it and finally I got in by chance yesterday evening. The food has Turkish influence despite the name being Italian. The selection is varied and there is a plate for every taste. Portions are good and food is tasty. I particularly liked the legume hummus and the aubergine with yoghurt and feta cheese. Prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere is chill and staff very nice and friendly. Recommended!

Lovely surroundings, great food, excellent staff. We were surprised with very nice live music which elevated our dining experience. The only flaw was that we ordered the ribeye medium well but it was closer to medium, however it was still very flavorful and very fresh. Definitely a place to recommend and revisit!

I’ll definitely be back as there is so much on the menu that I’d love to try! The food is delicious, and the portion sizes are good. The decor is lovely, and the staff were knowledgeable and accommodating for all of our questions and dietary needs. My only reservation is that it seems to take them a while to come over to the table. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I look forward to returning.

The place is nice, close to the station and nice street to walk around. The food was good except for the acai bowl that had waaay too much sugar (for the granola)

I tried the pancakes and can vouch for their taste! Their scrambled eggs side was £2.5 and the portion was big. I'll be back to try out more of their menu when I'm next in the area.

I had never heard of The Blue Legume Islington before but after I went to their restaurant and listened to the local band, I was hooked. They have live music Wednesday,Thursday, Friday-night until the early hours and the food is fantastic. It's a really cool venue and if you love Mediterranean cuisine or live music then it's perfect for you!

The Blue Legume Islington is the best restaurant in my neighborhood. I go there often and enjoy both the live music during dinner and the amazing food. It's a great place to go for a date, family outing, or just to drink with your friends. I highly recommend it!

Blue legume is one of our favourites in the neighborhood. Food is good and brunch time is recommended. Service us great and atmosphere is very cosy. We go there almost every weekend for a little bite. The food can be a bit or a miss.. which is a little bit disappointing because you would want the consistency and the quality to be always the same. However, still one of our favourites. Great prices, the decor is very nice and the staff is super friendly.

Such a great visit ! I was just visiting and stopped for the Benedict eggs, and what a great idea it was. The place is exceptionally decorated. Great place for a quick bite

The first place I visit for a breakfast for an English breakfast when step foot into London. Most certainly one of the nicest places to spend a sunday morning...

the chickpea burger thing they sell at the counter is amazing, their orange, ginger and carrot is amazing and you mustn't leave the place with tasting their Banoffee Pie .. oh and their chicken sausage breakfast is good. their smoothies, and banger mash with loads and loads of gravy..

We passed The Blue Legume and our attention was caught by the intimate and cosy setting inside. The manager saw us and came out to say hi and give us a flyer offering a glass of wine complimentary with our meal. We were sold. Not necessarily because of the freeness, but because he wasn’t pushy and he seemed genuinely welcoming.

Worsening service with each visit.. We've been going to the Blue Legume for several months now, we have a tradition of going out for breakfast/brunch before the weekend grocery shopping. Despite having gone for so long, and being served by the same people week in and week out, I find it appalling that there is no connection or acknowledgement from the staff with their customers. Having had family involved in the service/restaurant trade for many years, this service is vital. The food is good, no doubt about it. A particular favourite of mine is the hash brown breakfast but the service is horrible. Today was the last straw. Having stood in the entrance for 5 minutes with no queue in front of us, we decided to walk out. Countless staff members walked past, back and forth, some of them were just wandering around, not even dealing with customers. We were not acknowledged whatsoever. I have no doubt they'll continue to be successful as they are very often busy. I guess that's what you get when you churn out business the way they do. Oh, and the main hostess needs to learn how to smile. She also needs to learn that people see her and how quickly her expression changes when she turns away from the customer she is serving.

I think it’s the inviting exterior and airy interior of “The Blue Legume” which ensures that the place always seems full on passing by. Having been here a few times I would rate the comfortably adequate; you are guaranteed food that is reasonable both in taste and price.

As I said before the place is usually encouragingly occupied by customers, and the seating area that extends way into the back means that there’s always a seat. If you aren’t a fan of wandering children then I would avoid this place in the day as a notable number of these seats are filled by toddlers.

The menu covers most bases; its substantial breakfast listings even acknowledges its weight conscious customers by providing egg white omelettes. The lunch menu is endless, you are able to have anything from bangers and mash to Panini’s or even a mixed meze. Such a large selection means that each dish is ok rather than outstanding. My favourite thing I have had there came from the cold counter which serves quiche and salmon, both of which can be served with a choice of two or three different salads which was simple and fresh. I haven’t been here for dinner but the menu looks equally extensive.

All in all this place is fine, and you’ll be neither disappointed nor blown away by your meal, and there will certainly be something to suit your fancy. The restaurants interior is lovely so I would recommend this place for coffee meetings with friends.

The Blue Legume is a lovely restaurant with great service; however, the food is good but fairly average. The decor of the restaurant is rustic and cute with pots and pans hanging from the exposed brick walls and botanical illustrations is wooden frames. The waiters are friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is really nice. I definitely recommend this place for its atmosphere, I was there for breakfast over the weekend and I really enjoyed taking my time and chatting.

The menu; however, is a bit odd. It seems like they've tried to combine too many kinds of cuisines and you really cannot decide on what you should be eating because you cannot tell what their speciality is supposed to be. The breakfast food is good, I had a french toast with plum compote and it was quite tasty.

Fearful of lengthening the queues, we debated whether or not to feature this brunch spot. Luckily for you, however, we decided that the Blue Legume is just too good a secret to keep to ourselves.

The Blue Legume represents 'average food' as a notion, hence my average rating of 2.5. Was walking past when very hungry and got deceived by an attractive interior, as well as fresh juices and GF/DF signs on the menu. On a closer inspection, when already seated inside, the menu revealed such an overwhelming abundance that could not but raise doubts as to the quality of food. Staring at the list of most popular dishes from all over the world made me feel like a tourist that had no choice but to eat in front of a town's most popualr tourist attraction: BLT and ravioli, grilled halloumi and schnitzel, pasta and mules – what a choice! I ordered vegan courgette parcels stuffed with vegetables and served with potatoes on a side. The portion was large, though nothing excited the taste buds. Same could be said about my partner's dish – he was awarded with a large portion of tolerable moules.
On a positive note, staff was absolutely lovely and trying really hard to please. The cafe is new and clean, so hygienically it felt like a safe place to eat – together with filling and moderately priced food this might make the Blue Legume a place of choice of many. Demanding foodies however should probably stay away.

We chose this place at random whilst very hungry (i.e. in haste). Foolishly I didn't even check the menu before going in. It was an unusual hour to eat, somewhere between lunch and dinner so the lack of diners did not set off any alarm bells. First thing to note is the staff were very pleasant and genuinely seemed eager to please. They were especially accommodating when my girlfriend asked for a vegetarian dish and made sure it's dairy free or offer an alternative. When it came to the menu, I got lost. Not because I didn't understand it but the reason being I couldn't figure out what type of restaurant we were in. On checking after we left I discover they are a "Mediterranean" restaurant. The Schnitzel (Austrian), Gravadlax (Swedish) and Moules Mariniere (Belgian as far as I know) to name but a few left me perplexed. Last I checked Highbury and Islington was not in the Lonely Planet's top 10 in London but I wouldn't be surprised if they'd have a "picture" menu for tourists if requested. I decided to challenge the waiter and ask what they recommended or specialised in. The response wasn't too helpful as he said it depends what I'm in the mood for. I'm sure he could find a suitable dish no matter what my response. To play it safe I went for something simple, Moules Mariniere. A large plateful arrived with a side of chips. For some reason 50% of the shells were cracked. I know you're not supposed to eat them if they haven't opened but no idea what to do if they have suffered some trauma after cooking. It was a generous portion for a reasonable price. A little too creamy and could use a bit more garlic. A bonus at the end of the meal was a complimentary After 8! Very retro! Decor was bright and airy. Pictures on wall a bit of a mish mash. Miso local not a tourist.

So there I am, on a beautiful warm Sunday, sitting at home by myself. Impossible. I decide that I need to go out ASAP and just do something. And what’s better than treating myself to a nice lunch. Yes, I’m one of those people that doesn’t mind eating by herself and, in fact, loves it.

I started walking down Upper Street, without any clue as to where to sit down. The reason why I chose Blue Legume, was simply because of the open front - seemed like exactly what I was looking for.

Decided to go for an egg white omelette and the Spirulina smoothie. Omelette was light and exactly as it should be, but I think I was more grateful for the potatoes that came along with it - very very well seasoned. I was, however, completely blown away by the smoothie - love the fact that it was green, not too sweet and so refreshing. Wouldn’t mind having it on a daily basis.

I finished all of that pretty quickly and since I didn’t want to just head back home, I had a second look at the menu and finally found another excuse to stay. Ordered the apple crumble and some coffee to get rid of the sleepiness that was about to hit me. Nothing out of the ordinary here, except the fact that the crumble, was clearly microwaved. Was initially disappointed, but somehow it didn’t ruin my experience.

Staff was very nice and receptive, no issues there, and unlike most times when I go for a meal by myself, there were no awkward stares. I felt pretty comfortable and happy after the entire meal, and that’s why I was back 2 weeks later with a friend for more.

Would happily visit over and over again.

It’s always worth making sure you have plenty of time if you’re planning a visit. The staff are very sweet but don’t move very quickly, so it’s a good thing if you’re going for a good gas.

We were walking by and jumped in after a quick glance at the menu. The food was excellent (definitely do the octopus and chorizo) but it was outdone by the service. Great recommendations, honest conversation, and really was refreshing to get that kind of service in London. Will certainly be back next time I'm in the area.

The Blue Legume is a very nice brunch place. They have a daily selection of appetising stuffed vegetables and tarts that you can choose from. It took me 30 minutes to decide what I wanted because everything looked delicious and then I was not disappointed by the result. The atmosphere is warm and comfy. I would recommend the blue legume on a rainy day where you just feel like warming up in a cosy place. In the summer the terrace is also available.

The Blue Legume is a local favourite, with 3 locations all serving up healthy Mediterranean dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day of the week. It’s one of my favourite places for breakfast or brunch. I haven’t been in the evening but I’ve walked past several times and it looks like it’s a great venue for a relaxing dinner.

Mossie. Called in for some supper early Sat evening. We hadn't made a reservation but the place was only half full and we were told we could only sit in the middle of the restaurant as the other tables were reserved. Throughout the course of our meal another couple came in (also hadn't reserved) and were told they could sit where ever they liked. We ordered a glass of champagne each and one of them was fizzy and the other completely flat. When i brought this to the waitress's attention we were told by her that both were from the same bottle - which was obviously not the case, but when we insisted they brought out another glass. We ordered mussels thinking this would be a hearty meal for a cold evening - how wrong we were, and sorry, but there ought to be a law about this - maybe there is??: with the average size of each mussel being about 1.5cm long we were terrifically disappointed. And cooking mussels this size ought to be illegal frankly - needless to say we were glad it came with chips. The table was far too small for all the bits and pieces, which made all the large empty tables around us all the more galling. Looked promising from the outside, and nice interior but there are infinitely better places to go along this road, where you will also get fizzy champagne without having to make a fuss, and eating mussels won't feel like shelling peas. Really poor dining experience.

Overall the food was not as good as I'd hoped, which is a shame as the setting is so lovely. On the plus side the service was fine, the menu is reasonably priced and the dessert counter looks excellent, but unfortunately that doesn't make up for the quality of the food

Great food....horrible management. Went to the Blue Legume in Islington for breakfast with my wife. Some friends that recently visited London had given us a 25 pound voucher that they had purchased there as a gift. Our breakfast was great and very nicely presented. The wait staff were as well very pleasant. However upon receiving our bill of 16 pounds the manager (a rather shifty looking fella) came to ask us if we wanted anything else to use up our voucher. When we said we were full he said "well that's it then", gave us the thumbs up and walked away. Confused, I asked if we would be receiving change or a voucher for the remainder. He told us that there were no more vouchers and that this was a one time deal (despite the fact that the voucher did not say this and my friend had already forked out the 25 quid to buy the bloody thing). Needless to say after some arguing I was presented with a voucher for the remainder. So if you ever get one of these vouchers for this place make sure to validate how to use it BEFORE you eat. It will save you the hassle.

Fresh apple juice: brilliant! Ginger and beetroot juice: ummm...I would try something else. Penne pasta: menu says light cream sauce, but definitely not light... Although tasty, far from nutritious. Tertiyaki salmon salad: muy rico! Very good. Highly recommend. Flavorful and fresh. Music: S African beats. Ambiance: sidewalk patio open and could watch passerbys, but unfortunately smoke from folks next door wafted over to out table inside near front. Service: standard. Recommendation: would come again.

No Fruit Platter!!!. The Blue Lagume in Stoke Newington was our favourite place for breakfast, we and several othwer couples would frequent due to the amazing fruit platter.

Now we have a Blue Lagume closer but for some reason they do not do the fruit platter!! It was byu far the best seller at their other location so I can't understand why.

Very dissappointed, this is 2nd rate in comparison to the Stoke Newington branch in terms of choice and friendliness.

Having a meal with a baby in tow is always a challenge. Not only is having an intelligent conversation a technical impossibility, you'd probably have to take turns preventing utensils from flying all over while shoving bits of food into your mouth in the most efficient manner. That pretty much defeats the point of dining out. Interestingly, parents with young children are the most desperate to dine out as such opportunities are hard to come by. Contrary to the popular belief, there is no such thing as setting a so called 'routine' for young ones, especially if rationality has yet to be comprehended. Instead, parents find themselves adjusting to their kids' routine - no dinners after 8pm, no long lunches, no leisure breakfasts. The Blue Legume , after establishing its flagship restaura
