Our first dinner-date was here 5 years ago and we've been hooked every since. Love the quality of their meat, the smell from the moment you enter is divine, and the complimentary bread and sauce is enough to make the trek from St Johns Wood to Camberwell well-worth it! Skip the starters and go straight for the mains!
By far the best turkish resturant ever. been coming here on and off for 6 years and love it every time.allwsys bring someone new when i come its a taste revolution.its a shame there is not one in birmingham.
I have been to numerous Turkish restaurants but this place outshines them all for value service and quality. Have brought lots of staff from Kings college hospital here and not 1 has been dissatisfied. Excellent place indeed.
One of the best turkish restaurant in London. Food is amazing, staff are friendly & excellent service. Couldn't ask for more, that's why we kept coming back.
I have been to Turkey 5 times and never found a place like this one!
Absolutely amazing food!! The homemade bread with onion dipping sauce is to die for!! Love the take away chicken wrap too!!
Absolutely love it here best ever. Would recommend it to anyone.
The food was amazing the service was good , very busy in there so you know it's all going to be fresh , highly recommend to everyone .
Great food and good prices, first time been there best I have eaten in a long time
Amazing food! Great service and good prices. Would give it a try if I were you.
We were here last night. Great atmosphere. Good service and the food was amazing!!
almost eat there on a weekly basis at this stage. Best kebab on town
Fab food (amazing bread) great atmosphere, friendly staff
Often I used to go for a run from Peckham to oval then I’d think oh actually I’ll get a kebab from fm mangal and walk the rest. If you go in to eat the onion and bread starter stuff if phenomenal
Wonderful place. I have been going to this restuarant since Aug 09 and love both the food & service
Every neighbourhood needs a restaurant like this - tasty and inexpensive. Only ever taken away but will eat in soon. Really nice service too. You cannot go wrong. Unless you don't like Turkish food, I guess.
It's cheap, filling and spicy. Worth the oft scoffed decision to have a 'sit down' for their complimentary breads and dips, the former dusted with a spicy sumac style rub and the latter an addictive little bowl of pomegranate molasses and vinegar. Trust me, it tastes so much better than it reads.
Camberwell isn't notorious for being the culinary capital of London, let alone South London, and probably not even Southwark! However, I have lived in the area for a while and it astounds me as to the variety of food you can get here. We have Italian, Gre
There's something special about the FM Mangal pickle sauce. It's brought out with the house bread whether you're sitting down to a £6 lunch special (huge and surely one of the great lunch bargains of London) or, as we were last night, ordering way too much from the dinner menu, and it tastes bloody amazing - attractively purpley-red, just the right balance of sweet and sharp and containing huge chunks of crispy charcoal-blackened onion. But that's not why it's special. At least, it's not the only reason. It's special because despite persistent (polite) questioning, none of the staff at FM Mangal will reveal what goes into it. "It's a chef's secret," they say. "But is it pomegranate? Beetroot? Is there garlic?" "It's a chef's secret, sorry." And there's nothing more likely to pique the interest of a curious food blogger than a hint of mystery surrounding a dish or a restaurant. It's what made the Meatwagon story so appealing - you could guess at the recipe for the bun, you could watch
Don't be fooled this is not a radio station, but a glorified kebab shop. Chosen specifically as we had kebab cravings, but still wanted to know what meat we were eating, FM Mangal seemed to have the goods.
As you enter you're greeted by the sight and smoke of the open coal grill that is a sing of the quality. A far cry from the elephant leg scrapings one is used to.
The interior is tastefully moodlit with ornate, coloured lanterns and three floors offer ample room.
We went for the aubergine ezme starter, not realising that the restaurants signature bread and yogurt dip came free. The bread and whole plate of dip was probably enough given its richness, but the combination of garlic and onion in the ezme and yogurt pasted on top of the smoky bread was delicious. So much so we saw it all off and subsequently struggled with our mains.
For mains I had the house special yogurt sis (chicken shish) which was again sizeable. It came smothered in yet more yogurt and a rich tomato sauce with a side of rice. It was again great, but could maybe have done with a bit of salad, or a least something a bit lighter as an accompaniment.
All in all well worth a visit for kebab fans, as we left well defeated by the quantity. However, it is maybe £1 or £2 more on the mains than you might want to pay as our bill came to £20 each with a beer and tip.
The food was amazing the staff where really kind also the food tasted delicous will recomend this place for birthday partys and celbrations etc.
Wednesday 19th July 5.45pm - party for 13
We had a party on the top floor. Reserved in advance.
For me personally I found the food a bit salty, but overall the dinner was enjoyed by everyone.
I must say even the 2 kids present.
The staircase going up is slightly steep but I wasn't complaining.
The service was spectacular. 5* service. The atmosphere was lovely too.
Thank you to the front of house and the Chefs for a great evening. Hope to visit soon.
As per the last review, Camberwell Arms ran out of food so ended up here and this was a really good find. Top notch food and service. We had a Turkish friend in the group too and she was also very impressed with the quality so win-win throughout!
Cane here with my family today and we were seated to a table upstairs and we were given menus and we saw that nearly everything was so expensive! On the website it said they have wraps for £9.50 but on the website it was costing more and they didn't do wraps and if u wanted a wrap, it would be the same price as the food on the plate. Bit of a rip off really. I ordered a lamb cubes dish it tasted good but the lamb was so hard to cut. The starter which was bread and a sauce with onions was so delicious!! Really enjoyed that and the service was great. We got drinks straight away and we were waiting for more of my family to come and the waitors kindly waited for all of us to arrive till we ordered together.
Went here with friends, and we had a lovely dinner, food is so delicious, and service is very good, the restaurant is clean. Will definitely come back again!!
I haven’t been in over 10years but it was just as good as I remember. The free onion dip with bread as still amazing as ever. The hot starter I had was nice but hated the falafel.
I really enjoyed this place, from outside it doesn't look so much like a restaurant, more like a takeaway.
But as soon as you go inside it does not disappoint!
Beautiful decor and a vintage staircase to the 1st floor.
We celebrated our cousins 40th Birthday and the staff handled us well and we didn't wait too long considering the restaurant was packed solid!
Food was nice, my Lamb Shish was a tad over cooked but I did eat it anyway.
My partner had the Falafel and he said it was nice.
The grilled bread that came with the meal was fantastic.
Staff - exceptional
Lady with short black hair was amazing I didn't catch her name!
Great drinks and the atmosphere of this place is a real buzz.
If in the area I'd go back x
Excellent tasty food served fresh with friendly service . Visited on Monday so was not busy but it's a bit on the small siz for its space & prices overall could be more competitive. All in all very nice experience. Recommended.
I have to say the food was truly delicious! My only gripe with it is that all the meat is seasoned the same and if you get the mixed kebab plate, it's different meats with the same flavour. Would have been nice to get some of it with a different taste to break up the different elements of the dish. But the meat was oh so tender!
Even though I say this the taste and texture was 10/10
However the service was amazing and the vibe was very chill even for us who had a table of 15.
I would definitely recommend sitting to enjoy if you can as the quality of the food doesn't suffer any travel etc.
All in all a great quiet spot for a bad boy kebab!!
Food was excellent, I had yoghurti lamb and chicken mixed. Portions are very big and you get free bread with onion dip and baklava. Also had mint tea which was great.
We sat on the balcony which was really nice and chill. Staff were lovely and very attentive.
The food was Amazing ! Especially the Warm bread and dip as an aperitif ! The manager was really friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back !
