Excellent from the start! Great prices, vibe, and authentic Chinese street food. They also use recyclable straws :)
Not a common one ! Authentic Chinese Street Food. Eat, Pay and Go Concept. Highly Recommend...
An amazing place - it is my go-to place to take friends for a taste of Chinatown, a date place and even a hurried work lunch or two!
Be sure to try all of the dumplings and the dan dan noodles. Also, the chicken noodles are amazing. My personal favorite dumplings are the ones that come in a Spicy and Sour soup.
Small quaint place in the midst of soho - very different food from what u get in Chinatown next door - we had some prawn dumplings which were moist and very tasty. We also had some awesome squid in a very nice Sichuan pepper sauce and a cumin flavoured grilled lamb -which was the dampener of the evening as it was under cooked and the marinade hadn’t soaked! - in addition we had the complimentary peanuts upfront which were special due to the salt and the Sichuan peppers and some jasmine tea which was good. Will try and be back soon to taste the rest of the menu - work to be done folks on the grill though
What a fantastic place! The food was delicious and the menu was simple to understand. A problem I have with Chinese food is that sometimes I don't recognise the dish just by the name. But this place eliminates that problem and has photos. Everything tasted great and I highly recommend this place to people looking for authentic Chinese food.
Service is basic and sometimes unfriendly, but the food is absolutely outstanding and very well-priced. Order the Dan Dan noodles with pork, I trust you will never have tasted anything quite like it. Great location, too. Cash only, so come prepared.
I love street food! The more the place makes me doubt if my stomach will be ok tomorrow the better. They do nice skewers where you pick any meat you want (fish balls, tofu, internals, broccoli) and everything gets chucked into this pot of suspicious looking spicy brown water. So good!
Visited Baozi Inn a few years ago, just before I moved to China. I remember this being one of the more authentic Chinese restaurants that Chinese actually liked.
Food was well priced, I liked the cosy size of the restaurant and the decent food.
Love this place. I'd walked past this curious looking communist themed place quite a few times, each time making a mental note to visit one day. I am very glad I eventually did. I am now a regular.
If you don't like spicy food or have an appreciation for Chinese food other than cuisine from the popular Canton province (or even your local Chinese take out!) then don't bother. As for people who complain about the service, well most restaurants in Chinatown are like this, rushing you to order and finish as fast as possible in order to quickly free the tables for the next lot. If you're looking for fine dining then this cheap eat is not the place. Try their sister restaurants Ba Shan or Bar Shu.
I always get the spicy dumplings, cucumbers (a MUST), and a spicy noodle dish, either the shanghainese beef one or the hot and sour (?) one. I can't even physically stomach chili very well but I am addicted to this place.
Side note - everytime I go to Baozi Inn, I always see some people who are regulars. I think this is a good sign.
Still Damn Good. I am liking the new menu at Baozi Inn. The addition of more dumplings is a big bonus.
The soups are still well made and spicy.
It has a nice vibe in the evenings.
Dan Dan Noodles. Perfect for cold wet London weather. A hot bowl of soup and noodles.
The interior & service is fantastic. The food is very traditional from the Sichuan area of China. Overall very good.
Really tasty, and great value. Perfect for a quick lunch near Leicester Square. Tasty Asian noodle dishes and more, for approx £6 for a main course. They're also very quick, and it's possible to be in and out within half an hour. Go!
The speciality of Baozi Inn is the Baozi, a steamed bun with a variety of stuffings. It’s one of the most ubiquitous foods of northern China.
The one I tried, the House special, had a chicken based stuffing and was blissful!
You could also try the Pork Baozi stuffed with juicy minced pork and onion or the Egg Baozi stuffed with a colourful mix of egg, Chinese chives and carrot.
A full Baozi could satiate you, so perhaps you could eat one in two… otherwise you won’t have space to try other delicacies, which are many!
Sichuanese Spicy Beef Noodles
This small restaurant is very nice, it plunges you into a kitsch Communist atmosphere.
Dumplings were fantastic, very tasty and had a good texture. The only thing I didn't like in one of those dumpling's dishes (Chengdu pork dumplings in a savoury broth with laver seaweed) it was the taste of the soup, I found it too salty and I didn't like the seaweeds taste...
Fish-fragnant pork slivers, served steamed rice and seasonal greens was delicious and spicy. Just note that when they say 'spicy' they really mean it.
Staff was very nice, I really appreciated the atmosphere of this restaurant which makes us travel beyond the English borders.
I really enjoyed my experience here at Baozi Inn, and I must recommend it to anyone going that way! Not just a snack either, those noodle dishes and what not look and smell great! I would love to go back to get more of everything, plus more!
Going through Baozi Inn’s doors, past the strings of red lanterns feels a bit like the beginning of a magical journey. The flavours of their dishes are exotic and exquisite. The heat of the burnt, fried chillies and numbing tingle of the Sichuan peppers f
it's a fantastic place for a quick and exceptional lunch and you are in and out in less than 30 minutes.
It had been a while since I had been to Baozi Inn, but I felt it was due a re-visit to check out how it was faring up. For a Tuesday night this small joint was heaving to the rafters, which is always a good sign for a restaurant to be full mid week during a recession. Not much had changed since my last visit a few months ago, the décor is still a little faux, but they do have some lovely green Mao bags and caps hanging on the wall. I must pick one of those up in China later this year. The menu hasn’t changed either since my last visit, it still has the same Baozi Inn specials. So we ordered a few. First off was the Spicy Sichuan
When I used to work in Soho, the Baozi Inn after it opened became a place where I used to go and eat when I could not face staff food at the restaurant anymore. Which after a while was quite a lot. After cooking the same food, you kinda get fed up of eati
Baozi Inn is my favourite noodle joint around the West End. Middle child of siblings Bar Shan (reviewed earlier here) and Bar Shu, Baozi shows none of the signs of middle child syndrome.
On the hottest day of the year (?), we decided to visit Baozi Inn, in Chinatown. It specialises in Sichuan and Beijing streetfood, named after the Chinese word for 'bun'. As soon as I read this review, I knew I had to go. So off we toddled, fresh from the
There are lots of reviews of this nice little noodle place just off Leicester Sq station. Pretty much everybody roundly praised its fresh noodles and the excellent value. Most recently, Timeout showered it with praise and bestowed upon it the runner-up fo
The other day, a friend and I found ourselves in Chinatown, not our local hood by any means, looking for some lunch. I recalled the numerous reviews for Baozi Inn and vaguely remembered its location and so headed in that general direction. Luckily for us,
I have walked past this place many a times now. And finally decided to venture in. I must say, it was quite a delight. This place is for those preferring spicy Chinese food! The service is not great and in my opinion most places around in this area, have service like this.
I am extremely glad I finally visited this place. Soulful as it was, it was also a place that offered food Chinese food. The service here, though mostly criticised, is not that bad. There is nothing wrong in orders which are being rush through and executed quickly as long as the entire process does not become chaotic.
Lovely Asian food and more , and very timely service to add to it. The food tastes good, and is freshly prepared, perfect to grab a quick bite . And great value for money , they couldn't be any better . Definitely recommend to everyone and would go back there soon .
I am a fan of the new menu that they have introduced, especially the addition of the dumplings is a massive improvement over their previous offerings. The soups at this place taste amazing and are very well-executed. They have a very balanced seasoning and are flavourful. The evenings have a great atmosphere, and I enjoy coming here.
I am very gratified by the changes brought about by this place. The new menu is definitely an improvement, and the addition of more choices of dumplings on the menu is a good step forward. The food tastes just as nice as before, especially the soups which are still spicy and tasty. The place has a nice atmosphere in the evenings, and I like coming here.
This place will surely fulfill your appetite. The food is amazing here and the same goes for the quality of the food.
This place is pretty small but that is okay because of the reason that it is quite popular. The service is very quick and you are not supposed to wait for long here.
This place is quite small and pretty. The decor is soothing to your eyes. I tried my hands on their dumplings. They were quite amazing and appetizing. Full of flavors and texture. Only one of the variety of their dumplings was not at all good and to salty for my taste. Otherwise, everything was great. Would recommend!
This place does excellent Baozi , their signature dish , a lot of variety available too . If you can;'t zero in on one try their House special , I tried it once and it was divine . Everything here tasted absolutely wonderful ,and is all full of flavour .
Earlier today, I and a couple of my friends visited this place. Tiny little cute place located centrally and very easily reachable. The food we had ordered arrived on our table in no time and the tasted delicious. The taste is authentic and the food served was very fresh. The pricing as per the portions served is very fair. The staff and their services are very efficient and amazing. Recommended.
A couple of weeks ago, some of my friends from across the country happened to visit my place and asked me to take them to a nice Vegan restaurant, so I got them to this place. We called for a Spinach Cold noodles, which were prepared nicely and tasted amazing. We also called for a Plum drink, which was delicious as well. The only let down was that some of the dishes were covered in salt, and didn't quite taste good.
The place serves authentic Chinese cuisine and the Spicy beef noodle soup is a must-have here. The food is delicious and packed full of flavor along with being well-prepared. It is also very reasonably priced. The service is a bit of a lag though. The staff is friendly and hospitable. I would definitely recommend this place.
This place is sort of my religion, when it comes to authentic Chinese cuisine. The name of the restaurant mean 'The people's canteen' in English, and the place offers a huge variety of dishes from the Chinese cuisine.
I've been a regular visitor of this place for a long time now, and almost all the dishes offered by them are extremely well prepared. Among my favorites are their Dan dan noodles and their Beef and bamboo noodles. The seating though, is not quite comfortable as this place is meant for quick meals.
To get a flavor of a jazzed up Chinese cuisine ,visit this restaurant .The interiors are very interesting with Mao-era styling which is complimented with appropriate music in the background. The service is brisk ,and the staff was very cordial and amicable in their communication.
The menu looks worn off and the narrow range of dishes are offered. But this is compensated by the attention provided to each order which is then delivered in decent time.
The overall experience is quick and uncomplicated.
I have been a regular at this place. Visiting it as a loner looking to have a quiet time, with friends for a noisy party nd even with my family, this place has never disappointed me.
I always order the salad and their signature dumplings. Every time I dig into them, the experience only gets better.
The quantity and service at this place has been uniform through all the times I have visited it.
I will definitely recommend this place!
It is a very good restaurant to dine at. The food is always an absolute delight though a bit on the expensive side. I would recommend you not to try their beef noodles as they are very spicy and you will not like them for sure. The thing that disappointed me the most were the prices that were charged and you will find other places offering cheap and same quality of food that is generally offered here.
It has been three years that I have been in London, and since then I have been to this place more than 10 times. This place has never failed in surprising me with its great atmosphere, serene environment and delicious food. The spicyness of the food is what drags me down here everytime. The staff has been amazing ever since the place has opened i presume. Excellent value for money. Recommended.
I recently tried this place and was pretty impressed with the quality of food offered here at amazing prices which was quite surprising. This place offers simple, authentic Chinese food and it is excellent with wonderful flavours, cooked perfectly. I would love to visit this place again and recommend others to try this place as well.
Pork dumplings.
I'd like to leave it there and let you investigate on that alone so you're just as pleasantly surprised as I was.
The only drawbacks are that they don't accept cards and the staff aren't the bend over backwards type, they lean more towards indifferent.
I haven't tried the restaurant yet, but I've been several time to their takeaway kitchen next door and I love it! I think they make the best barbequed pork buns you'll find in chinatown, and although they have raised the prices I cannot but love this place. Definitely reccomended for a quick snack on the go!
It was very busy on a Friday night, but we managed to get a table for 4 without booking. The mocktail drinks (green tea and fruit) were delicious! The service was really rapid. The dumplings and bao buns were really tasty. I had the noodles with pork belly and they were flavourful. My husband had the spicy mince noodles with pig intestines and he loved it. Another one of group had the aubergines with rice which had a wonderful sauce. We also had the crispy chicken, which was a bit gelatinous and the seaweed salad which was a bit oily and too garlicky for one of our group. Overall, I liked it and would recommend a visit.

The Maocai (Hot Pot) is an absolute winner. Tasty, hot and huge. The bowl is massive and filled with wonderful flavours. The dumplings and Bao were delicious. The Aloe Vera drinks are so refreshing and tasty, especially the watermelon. Faye was an absolute star and very attentive. We highly recommend this restaurant in China Town
The skewers were really quite nice. Flavour was perfect and just enough spice and “numbness” to the spice!
I loved how every skewer tasted perfectly and it’s just one of those things that are hard to find these days.
It would have easily been a 5 star joint for the skewers alone BUT for like £7 for 5 skewers, that’s quite some healthy margin considering that makes it £1.5 for 2 fish balls or £2 for beef tribe which is almost free from western butchers!
Love this place. I work close by and usually go couple times of week.
I recommend the soups mainly the Dragon wonton or Chengdu dumplings in broth. My all time favourite is the Black fungus salad and Mixed Chengdu dumplings in spicy sauce. Simply the best in London.
I wouldn’t say it’s a cozy place, but definitely somewhere I’d go when I need a spicy & soupy meal. In general, it’s comfort food with ok price, but also noted that there are not many vegetarian options.
The spicy beef stew noodles was very nice. The food came very quickly and the staff were very helpful.
The overall mood is quite Asian. Nothing really special. It's quite cramped.
The spicy beef brisket noodle soup was sooo good and comforting- it got spicy but I enjoyed it. The fried chicken was also delicious as well. Efficient service and friendly too!
Was surprised to find really decent mala noodles at this London joint. The numbness was perfect, reminded me of the ones I had in China. The place also provides free wifi which you can log in by providing fake email details and also has toilets in store.
Simple, sometimes deceptively simple food. At first when I got Dan Dan noodles was disappointed, but when I moxed it, let flavours infuse and eaten with side greens - it was delicious. Baozi buns very big, succulent meat inside, though not as good as Shanghai street dumplings, 3 are enough for a meal.
Next time have to take aubergine - it was looking sooo tempting.
£9 for lunch main
Can't deny was an f tasty lunch. £9.9 for the set. Left full and happy. Staff friendly enough and knowledgeable of the food, which was FAST. Really hit the spot. Each dish 👍 was the first person in at 12:00, left thinking this is now every day should start! Be seeing you soon.
Really tasty Chinese meal! The steamed buns are big! And the food is just great. I can see why there was a queue. Get there early if you want to avoid the wait.
This place is a tiny hidden gem in China Town. I have been coming for years for the cheap yet delicious steamed buns (pork or veggie). They also do lotus buns with cucumber and pork which is delicious; as well as various skewers that I am yet to try - far too addicted to the buns!
Cash only. The wontons are really good, the delicious fillings are evidently also used in the buns. This is 'the' place to come to in London if you have cravings for buns and wontons. Broth is full of MSG though.
