The Coal Hole is a wonderful pub experience. We arrived at 5:15 pm and the place was hopping. We were going for pre-theatre dinner but the great majority are there for their after work pint.
We ordered the Nicholson Steak Pie, the soup of the day - Tomato Basil, and the Nicholson Fish & Chips. All was fabulous and a lot to eat.
Highly recommend visiting The Coal Hole.
Great food. Good drinks and beer. Staff east very friendly and helpful. Visited twice and would come again and again.
A good place for some crunchy nachos. It was crispy and delicious. There were drizzles of cheese which really accentuated the flavour. The garlic bread was not that good as it was just some garlic butter on flatbread which was hard. Overall, a good place with good food and good price and nice service
What a lovely pub , great selection of beers and lagers and very well decorated.
Price range is very reasonable for the area.
Food was delicious š especially the fish š pie which I thoroughly enjoyed every last mouthful

ā¤ļø An atmospheric West End pub.
.
The Coal Hole is located on The Strand in the heart of Theatre land in The West End. Getting here is is easy, Charing Cross and Covent Garden tube stations are just a few minutes walk away.
.
The Coal Hole was built in 1903 and is Grade II listed, this pub is part of the Savoy Court and was the site of the coal cellar for the famous Savoy Hotel. 617 Squadron drank in The Coal Hole the night before they went to the Palace to see the King to collect medals for the famous Dambusters Raid.
.
This pubās decor is quite unique as it is designed in an art nouveau style, there are only a dozen or so pubs in London which are designed in this way. The high beamed ceiling and the details above the gorgeous windows give you a sense you are somewhere historic, an almost Tudor feel. The servery is intricately ornate and the chequered tiled floor completes the look. Overlooking the main bar is a mezzanine which is set aside for dining.
.
The Coal Hole isnāt just about looks, there is an impressive beer selection including six cask ales. We kept it simple and ordered a couple of Amstels, price point was a bit above average and our pints were very agreeable. There is a hearty British pub classics food menu available here, Fish & Chips cost Ā£16.50.
.
The atmosphere was buzzing on this Saturday lunchtime. The clientele consisted mainly of tourists, patrons of the Savoy Hotel and the various nearby theatres, plus inquisitive day trippers having there first drinks of the day.
.
There are many pubs across London which are atmospheric and give you that sense of āOld Londonā. @thecoalhole is one such pub, it may not be the oldest pub in town, in fact itās a mere whipper-snapper compared to its counterparts but there is a certain awe about this pub. Get it on your list folks.

Nice pub. 17pound for three bar dishes were pretty worth the money.
Amizong place, I walk by and ear a live music.
I got siprised from the vibes in there.
The bartender got me and me partner the right alcohol for each of us and let get wasted in the good way.
After the live show that was amazing other was an amizing palylist which touched all the right pop calture songs. I will be back the next time I hit London!
Fantastic service , fish and chips outstanding. Staff friendly and polite. Served by Gly .
While walking down the Strand in London we found this nice pub that was packed with people. We walked in and noticed there wasn't any room. As we were walking out, two of the workers asked if we were looking for a table and then mentioned that a table should be opening up in about 5 minutes. True to form, people left soon after and a table was available. Such great service!
The food is really good! There were 5 of us so we had some pies and fish and chips. All was cooked perfectly and tasted very good. I highly recommend for couples or families who are looking for a nice place to eat lunch.
Very nice pub with an interesting history. Located off the Strand next to the Savoy. Stopped by for a few pints and something to eat.
Very busy with all sorts of folks which was cool. They had a lot of staff so taking orders at the bar was not too long considering how busy it was. Good selection of beers. I saw many people getting cocktails too.
We were able to get somewhere to sit and drink.
I ordered food, the house special ale pie and my friend had the lamb shank shepherds pie. I would say the food was a little pricey for the amount but you figure youāre right in central London.
I knocked off a star as my food, although presented well, was not particularly tasty as I had hoped (especially for an award winning pie). The mash and veggies tasted dry like they had been sat out for a while. I probably would not come back for food but would definitely stop by for a beer. I would recommend a stop in here if you're in the area.
Great location and vibe, great staff and a good selection of drinks!
What a fantastic pub. Lovely atmosphere. Would definitely recommend a visit. Didn't get try the food, on my next visit I shall
My only disappointment was witnessing a member of bar staff speaking very rudely to a colleague who was serving me and needed help(worked there for only 3 weeks) not something I feel should be on view to the customer's. Or at all. I reassured him he was doing a great job. The other member of staff needs to work on her customer's skills.
I recently visited the Coal Hole pub in London and had an absolutely fantastic experience. From the start, I was impressed with how easily I could book a table using their user-friendly app. Upon arrival, the staff greeted us warmly and provided excellent service throughout our entire visit.
What truly set this pub apart for me was the attentiveness, politeness, and helpfulness of the staff. They always seemed to be one step ahead of our needs and answering any questions we had.
The Coal Hole's food was equally outstanding. It was beautifully presented and much more flavourful than one might expect given the budget-friendly prices. It's rare to find such great value when dining out in London.
In conclusion, I would highly recommend the Coal Hole to anyone looking for an enjoyable evening with delicious food and impeccable service. You won't be disappointed!
Popped in for a pint with some friends and the bar seemed legit.
Friendly service, cold beer, good calamari.
The service is fast always. Great atmosphere we only had drinks here it was our favorite pub we came several times during our holiday.
The fish and chips were spectacular and the service was great! This was my first meal on our trip to London and it definitely started our trip off right!
Great selection of beers. I particularly enjoyed the Camden Hells. Traditional pub surrounding including beautiful glass windows. Friendly staff. Nice to be able to get a drink at more reasonable prices than surrounding establishments.
