The place has a very good vibe and the staff are very friendly. The food was good but if you order pizza order the small one or leave a lot behind.
Not sure what happened to the lady below but my family and I have been going to Al Forno's for years and it has always been great. Yes it is a busy restaurant and sometimes you have to wait a bit but that only shows how popular the place is. Sorry you didn't enjoy yourselves. Obviously something must have gone wrong on that particularly evening.
First time to Al Fornos... Staff were welcoming friendly and attentive. Food was freshly cooked good portions amazing lasagna good wine and great desserts. Was busy but a great atmosphere. Highly recommend it. Definitely best Italian food I've had. Looking forward to going again...Thanks to the great staff for a good night :)
We visited to day with a very large group and arrived early causing the staff a headache but they received us with good grace. They rushed to get our table ready and produced all our food at the same time (without a pre-order). I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, amazing staff and great food!!
Visited Al Forno 10th April, we hadn’t booked a table but they still found us a table and it was very busy. The service was brilliant and very friendly staff. Enjoyed our garlic bread and delicious pizzas. Will go back as we have been before and never had a problem.
Always have a great time here, food brilliant and staff amazing- may sometimes take a while for food to come out but we’re never in a rush anyway. Also very child friendly which is also a bonus these days.
Brilliant food -- humours staff --- very busy with young children & mammies in the upstairs part of the restaurant -- recommend to al my friends
We went on a week day for a family lunch and we loved it. Friendly staff and delicious food! I really enjoyed the dessert.
Love this restaurant , have been there several times and always had a great meal and service has been always exceptional
A good Italian restaurant with reasonable prices. I came here with a few colleague from work and we ordered a few pizzas, a calzone and a portion of risotto with fungi. All the food was fresh, tasty and the portions were very generous! Friendly staff and good service!!
I have been going to this family run restaurant for years. They have great, authentic Italian food and a wood oven which makes the pizzas perfect.
They have great service and are well priced. If you like authentic Italian food you should definitely check it out.
Crazy Italian restaurant - good food and crazy waiters - perfect for a rowdy birthday party. Great Pizza, lovely decor and nothing is too much trouble.
A busy busy italian, with a very lively feel. Sometimes it can be very overcrowded. But on the whole a great place for a night out with friends and feel like your on holiday!
Food is good and the waiting staff are characters.
Expect a good time and good value for money
The spirit of this place is what keeps me going back time and time again, well, that and the calzone.
The BIGGEST AND TASTIEST ever, brushed with garlic and filled with cheese and ham (if you choose). You can get it in whatever size you like too, one for the whole table. It's sensational.
The staff are friendly, even dancing with you on a Saturday night (if you're lucky) and will always end your meal with a limoncello.
It doesn't get better than that!
Fantastico very good cuisine the pizzas are a must.
Traditional stone bake clay oven and very Italian family atmosphere this is a must if your in the area, and it's so reasonable and easy on the wallet
Brilliant with the family. Have been numerous times and think the service is great (very friendly and quick). Food is good and we will keep going back.
If you can get past.... The quick and easy review:
Pros
1) Very good portion sizes (Large pizza is 1 meter long)
2) Quick to serve food
Cons
1) Service is terrible. Not friendly, they forgot our drinks and it look us yelling at the chef to get our bill.
2) Uncomfortable. Very crowded and they refused to turn off the excessive heat lamps on the enclosed porch
3) Pizza could use more toppings.
Good restaurant if you can get past the service and the cramped quarters.
Like seeing old friends. Some of the best pizzas in London - paper thin and - if you opt for a medium or large - stretched across wooden platter like your very own pizza al taglio; indeed, this is why most people visit this restaurant. Dining partners have made excellent comments about their pastas, so pizza haters (is that possible?) are well catered for with pastas, mains and contorni to choose from.
This is a homely establishment with a long-serving staff who have been there for ages - pretty telling about the atmosphere of the restaurant. They know regulars by name, and treat us really well.
Al Forno can look like a bit of a dive, but what it is is consistent; on Friday and Saturday nights, it's packed out - crammed to the rafters with punters who have staff constantly on the go - and it's raucously noisy, tongue in cheek and fun. It will not be a night for romance! The rest of the week, it is busy but quieter, and perhaps more amenable to those of gentler dispositions - be prepared for that, and you won't give it a poor review; the food certainly won't let you down.
Despite some mixed reviews my extended family went here and had a great meal. The decor is somewhat rustic I suppose, the staff are in the stereotypical Italian mould, and most importantly the food was delicious. I had gorgonzola steak fillet and it was very tasty and everyone enjoyed their food. Prices were reasonable (about 30% less than the equivalent fare in centrals) with drinks, of course, being way OTT. Having said that, we all got a free shot at the end of the meal... If sambuca's your kind of thing... I'll definitely be eating here again and would recommend it to anyone.
Really good food in a fun restaurant.
Great place. Jumbo Prawns in chilli tomato are fab. Genuine passionate Italian staff also a draw. Always busy so lunch best time if you want to miss evening chaos.
Al Forni serves really good food and in very big servings. And I mean big! A small pizza can be eaten by 2-3 people despite them saying it's a solo pizza. Their smoked salmon and cream pasta is to die for!
Al Forno is an always-busy rustic Italian restaurant in Wimbledon. Probably the best option in the area for a nice Italian pizza. We got early for diner and sat outside in the terrace
Al Forno is true to the Italian spirit. The place is lively, inviting and has some seriously good food! If you love a tasty large pizza, then you're in luck.
The restaurant is just a short walk from Wimbledon station and I just love its quirky interior.
My only complaint has to be that when it gets busy it can be quite loud, making conversation a little difficult!
Pizza is one of my favourite foods and here its good. They have a varied menu but its average but don't doubt the pizza. Medium is good for two and large is good for three.
Following a great panto at New Wimbledon Theatre and with tummys-a-rumbling we stumbled upon Al Forno.
This is exactly how you'd expect an Italian restaurant run by Italian people to be. The decor was pleasant with a grand central balcony that is covered with beautiful mosaic work. The restaurant both upstairs and downstairs look like a rustic barn conversion that is cosy and inviting. We were put into the gazebo extension on the front, however, which slightly altered the atmosphere.
The food we ordered was delicious and plentiful with large pizzas and traditional pasta filling our table. As we were eating the lively restaurant (which was already full of the sounds of birthday parties and Italian dialogue being thrown over the room) broke out into song as Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' came over the speakers. The parts of the kitchen that you could see in to revealed that EVERY chef and waiter knew EVERY word and I suspect this is a common occurrence. The manager joined in with 'the show' alongside all the waiters in the restaurant, happily taking plates to tables whilst loudly singing 'MAMA MIA LET HIM GO'
Overall it was an entertaining experience with yummy food and a welcoming and merry vibe that made you feel like part of their extended family for the evening.
I had always heard very mixed feedback for Al Forno. Finally made it here for dinner last night with a couple of friends and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was louder and busier than I expected it to be on a Wednesday night.
We ordered the Insalata Tricolore and the Bruschetta Caprese to start both of which were very average and nothing to rave about.
My friend and I opted for a medium pizza (half Fiorentina without the egg and half Capricciosa). She had warned me that their pizzas are massive and wow, I couldn't believe my eyes when they brought it to our table. The pizza was crispy, cheesy and comforting - just what we needed.
There were 3 of us at dinner and the total for 1 bottle of wine, 2 starters, 1 medium pizza and 1 seafood linguini came out to £22/head which we felt was very reasonable. The service was jovial and attentive and I will definitely recommend Al Forno for their generous pizzas and lively ambience.
Busy and popular Italian restaurant in Wimbledon that has been serving classic Italian fare for years. Pizza is home made in their massive oven, the base is very light, thin, and crispy. A hungry person needs 2 small or 1 medium pizza. Their menu is quite comprehensive with starters, pasta, and secondi. They have a specials board as well.
There are some great vegetarian options.
We've been a few times and the food has been cooked well and flavoursome. Their home made desserts are a real treat - the tiramisu is super, and the banoffee pie is outstanding. Service is generally friendly and accommodating. They also do very well timing the arrival of dishes for larger groups.
One thing I’m not a big fan on is tight spaces. As it was really busy Saturday night. We really had to squeeze past to get to anywhere. Food was amazing as is all Italian restaurants I’ve attended. Service was a bit slow which was understandable as there was only 3 people working upstairs catering to at least 50 people.
We had a lovely meal at this restaurant. The flavours were good. I had the insalata tricolor, my partner had the sardines for starters. These dishes were both very nice.
For mains we had the veal escalope with spaghetti - the spaghetti sauce was quite bland. My partner had the melanzane ripiene - an aubergine dish. It was very tasty.
Service was fantastic. We turned up without a reservation and the waiter found us a table outside. We were very well looked after. I highly recommend this restaurant..
A lively and energetic Italian restaurant, serving up authentic and we'll prepared dishes. We had a table booked on a busy Thursday evening when the restaurant was packed. It was great to see the passionate team members at Al Forno rushing around to ensure customers were looked after and food and drink served quickly. The food itself came out piping hot and tasted superb. The pasta always delightful and the pizza served on a fresh and thin crust.
Overall, an excellent dining experience and we'd definitely be back. Well done to team at Al Forno!
Super 👌🏼
One of the best Italian Restaurant I
Fresh food served in high quality, me personally love seafood and I ordered “Gamberoni Arrabbiata” which is prawns in chilli, garlic and tomato. Also I asked for mushroom risotto, wow it was so delicious 🤤.
💯% recommend to who loves Italian cuisine🙌
Nice Italian restaurant. Staff super friendly, chatty & really helpful.
Lovely food also!
Will be returning for sure
Food here was amazing. Friendly service and very busy. Would definitely recommend
I think 4 years would be enough for honest review.
I waited this long to share my experience trough these four years.
This fabulous Italian restaurant held so many wonderful memories for me.
I shared my happiest moments with my friends and the amazing food.
Al Forno never disappointed me.
Every dish that I have tried were amazing.
The staff are all amazing and professional.
The atmosphere is amazing for family, friends gathering or birthday parties or even a romantic date.
Definitely recommend it
I will definitely go again and again. We just moved and visited one time. Lazanya was delicious. Pizza ingredients were great but dough could be better. Calamari was Calamari. Aubergine bake starter was delicious. It was like main. I saw all their plates are more than enough. 👍 Next time I want to try pasta 😋 we are addicted to traditional Italian food.
Loved the atmosphere and decor within the restaurant, felt authentic! The staff are friendly and made us feel welcome, ensuring to check up on us. They have a menu including pizza, pasta, seafood, and classic dishes like lasagne. Prices are upper-mid end but definitely worth it for the quality and serving size you get. Would recommend if you want a genuine, tasty Italian meal without breaking the bank too much.
I have been a customer of this restaurant for almost 3 years. All of foods are amazing and the customer service is great.
Highly recommended 🙂
A very popular restaurant.
If you want to eat here, book in advance. Lots of tables and super speedy, tasty, pizzas out of their pizza oven.
Never been disappointed when eating here. So handy for the New Wimbledon Theatre.
Very friendly and attentive staff.
Food was well cooked but very salty.
Good service
Only disappointment was carbonara had cream in it and not egg as advertised on menu. Besides that, all delicious!
Went for dinner. There were around 40 of us. We had prebooked the food on a set menu
ALL of us enjoyed our food. The staff were amazing and kept the drinks flowing.
Lovely decor
Thank you all for an amazing evening.
It prepared us well for The Thames Path Challenge the next day
