Love the food. And the service and the decor! This is the place to go for Chinese at Queensway! Our server was very patient and enthusiastic. And the manager kept dropping in to check on us.
Delicious yum cha with lots of variety and taste freshly made! Recommend the prawn dumplings and the seaseme prawn rolls! Delicious! Best to come with an very empty stomach as all the dumplings are delicious
Great place for yum cha. They're super busy though so expect to queue. Try anything and everything. I love their steamed items. Yum yum yum.

It's a very old Chinese restaurant with same decor and food taste. I had hot and sour veg soup and loved it. Then we had the veg duck wrap and it was amazing. Also ordered the veg chicken that was ok and stir fried tofu in Szechuan which was good. For desserts had some mango syrup and chilled tapioca with coconut syrup both were below average.
In love with this place. The crispy aromatic duck pancakes are to die for. My cousin and I swear by the food here. And the quality is top notch. If I could eat here everyday of my life, I happily would! Craving the pancakes already haha. Yum!
From the outside, it looks like just another small restaurant and take aways around the hood. But once you step inside, it was a whole new big world. Very nice decoration, spacious, attentive waiter.
The Crispy Aromatic duck was amazing. Very crispy. The rolling flour that comes along with it is very soft and perfect. Had couple other dish shared with 6 people, the bill was 100
Something pounds.. Very nice evening.
BEST EVER Dim-Sum!. Attention to details, hand wrapped fresh dumplings filled with the most refreshing veg, herbs, nuts and meat... The light and absolutely superb choice for a weekend delight!
My family's favorite. This is one of my family's favorite places to eat in London. It's in a neighborhood close to our house, right down the street down from Selfridges. Wonderful crispy duck! This is the first restaurant we go to when we arrive in London.
Safe bet for dim sum. Royal China can be rude, but this is rare and the staff are generally polite and 'efficient'. The dim sum is the main reason for coming - adjacent Chinese restaurants produce better main course dishes - and the variety on offer is great and generally good. A fun meal experience for a group. Note that there is no phone reception inside the cave-like Bayswater branch.
My Chinese friends think it's londons best dim sum an I love the uk style Chinese food there too!
Service was even more terrible than usual, but how can I risk going anywhere else? Even with your long queues and surly staff, you have my stomach Royal China, damn you.
Royal China has been around for twenty years. The menu is traditional Hong Kong Chinese, and Dim Sum is Royal China’s specialty. A special Dim Sum chef in each restaurant helps maintain Royal China’s reputation for the finest outside of Hong Kong.
I've been coming to Royal China for years, which I missed deeply during the recent months of refurbishment. Having opened yesterday with its ever long queue for dim sum, I opt for the much quieter dinner where booking was not an requirement.
Royal China in Queensway has a very big dining room, with space for many family sized round tables, each with their own lazy susans. The walls are lined with black lacquer screens which is their signature look that is replicated across the chain. I was there with my friend Fiona to review their dim sum menu which they serve daily. For those who are not too familiar with dim sum and how to order, they have pictures on their menus that help. Fiona asked me to order and this is what we had. Dim sum being a Cantonese tradition, we had to have a soup as they do make really good soups- a nourishing Seafood coriander soup. As customary, we also ordered a pot of Oolong tea to go with our lunch
[M]y favourites are the baby bak choi (if only most top French restaurants could cook vegetables this well), ultra tender steamed gai lan (Chinese broccoli), the Singapore noodles and the belly pork with stewed vegetables
I've been hankering for some dim sum since we got back from the US and today I finally got my fix when I met a friend at Royal China on queensway for a quick lunch. B and I have brunch there most weekends, arriving just after 11am (when they open) to avoi
I have been coming to Royal China (RC) for the last 12 years, and have nearly always enjoyed my dim sum there.
Sundays are a great time to see friends over a spot of brunch. This time it was brunch with a difference – a dim sum one! Royal China is a popular place and luckily as we had got there before noon, we didn’t have to queue. But by the time we left, there was a long line of people waiting for a table. A dark interior with decorated marble walls, coloured soft lighting and many round tables made up the restaurant area. There was a bar adjacent to the waiting area at the front of the restaurant. It was nice not to have to decide which dishes to order as friends placed the order for the food selection. Bamboo baskets of steamed dumplings, buns, noodle dishes and dipping sauces graced our table.
This is my favourite dim sum dish of all. By the way, most of the steamed items are served in the bamboo steamers that they were cooked in. Also part of the experience for me. I love this stuff, but a very health conscious friend of mine once told me the
I have been to this place a number of times. The food is excellent, especially the crispy duck which is amazing. The ambience is lovely and the service is pretty efficient with the staff being quite warm and friendly. thus, I would surely recommend this place to those who haven't tried it yet.
The Royal China has topped the chart of my favorite restaurants to dine in in this city. They possess the best chefs which deliver amazing food. The pricing as per the portions served is incredible. The service is very efficient and exceptionally good. I am most likely to be a regular at this place and would be highly rating this place. Cheers.
The restaurant serves one of the best dim sums. Though the place is a handful expensive, the food completely justifies it. well worth the price, even with nothing extraordinary on the menu. During the peak times of the year, there's a possibility of finding a queue here. However, the service is speedy and helpful.
We had been hearing quite about about this Chinese place and its beautifully designed interiors which are very reminiscent of China itself. We found ourselves captivated by the art on the walls and the ceilings and were immediately looking forward to the meal in the buzzing atmosphere. The food off the varied menu tasted very authentic and was delicious. The staff is also quick and efficient. Highly recommended.
This is actually a stunning place to dine at. Their decor is doused in a theme of black and gold. They have amazing gilded mirrors at the restaurant and it is a very busy place. There are often very long queues and a seat can require a long wait, but it is worth everything. The service is very functional in nature, but the quality of the food makes up for the lack of warmth. The menu is very versatile and the specials are particularly delicious.
The menu is simple and short, but whatever is there in their menu is so fresh and high on flavors. This place in my opinion serves extremely delicious dim sums. Every dish is being made from scratch at this place and therefore, seems very fresh and extremely appealing and appetizing.
I am a Dim Sum fan and this place always satisfies my craving just right! This place is very popular and the waiting could be long, but if you are as passionate as me, do come in early to skip the crowd to devour some of the premium quality dim sums ever! This is was my second visit here and may be i was a little excited from the previous visit and ordered quite a lot. But all if the dishes were just superb. Definitely try this place!
I had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. The food here is extremely delicious, absolutely delectable and mouth-watering. The dishes are very well prepared and full of flavor. The king prawns are a must-have here and the honey roasted pork is also not be missed. We were so delighted with the culinary experience that we went back the consecutive night to dine here again!
This is easily my most favoured Chinese restaurant in the city. They serve amazing Chinese food with the most exquisite and complex flavours. Their menu includes a variety of Chinese options such as spring rolls, crab, dumplings, duck, beef et cetera. Their service is very efficient and nice and the ambiance is especially lovely. The room is very large and spacious, and this is a really nice place for large parties.
I have been a regular customer of this restaurant for many years now. I love the food which is reminiscent of China and extremely delicious. The dim sums are absolutely delightful. The place is almost always packed with people who love it and the staff still manages to please everyone, that's how quick they are! This place has the perfect atmosphere for a family outing. Highly recommended!
I visited this place for the first time a couple of week ago, and it surely wasn't my last time. I was really impressed by the amazing Cantonese food served here and loved almost all the dishes that we ordered. We ordered a BBQ pastry which was amazing and also some Shanghainese style meat which was tender and tasted delicious.
This place offers you with the best dim sum, in fact it specializes in dim sums only. The quality of food is soo good. They also serve wraps with tasty filling which are delicate and yum to taste. They don't serve a wide array of dim sums though, but their list is sufficient enough. Their service was humble and courteous. And the best thing is that, the food does't cost much also, pretty affordable prices.
This is a very spacious and large restaurant, and they are very quick and efficient in their service. They have two different menus from which they serve, and one is in Chinese and the other is an extended English option. I really recommend the dishes from the Chinese menu, although all the dishes are actually very yummy. The service is immaculate and efficient. It is advisable to reserve in advance.
This restaurant is definitely on the special pages of my good books. In fact my whole family enjoys having a meal here. The easy location from my house might be a factor, but the food otherwise too is simply delicious. If i am in London, this place is a must visit for me!
It's one of my favorite family restaurants in London. The best thing is that it's very close to our place. The best dish they serve is Crispy Duck, it's very tasty and one must try this if they plan to pay a visit here. The staff is very courteous and humble. Also, the ambiance is lively and fantastic.
We have always had a wonderful experience dining at this restaurant. It is also one of my favorite places. It is in close proximity to our house, so it's very convenient to dine there whenever we want. The crispy duck here is a must-have. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
This restaurant is the most preferred haunt of my family. It is located quite close to where we reside, and is just a few minutes of walk from the main market. They serve the most amazing duck at this place. It is really crispy, succulent and flavourful. This is the first place we visit whenever we visit the city.
To begin with the ambience, The place is immensely spacious. Dining room is interiorized with huge round tables and walls with black lacquer screens. This is a signature decor of this restaurant. We visited this place to try their much heard about dim sums menu. The place is a delight!
Located in London Royal China is by far the best place for Chinese cuisine. If you are a person who loves dim sums then this is definitely the place for you. The staff and service happens to be very efficient. The food is delicious and very well cooked. The ambiance is very cheerful and this place is excellent value for money.
The view outside makes it look like another of those tiny restaurants and takeaways in the neighbourhood. However, on stepping side, you would find a completely new environment which is spacious, with beautiful decor and an efficient staff. We had the Crispy Aromatic duck which was just perfect and extremely crispy. The side dishes were also excellent. The prices are also very reasonable. Definitely recommended.
This is a pretty popular place and therefore i advise you to get ready to wait or to come in at odd hours. In my opinion, this is the place ,if you are craving for some heavenly Dim sums. On my last visit , i was happy to find me a spot and was glad to devour the best dim sums ever. Do try!
I really like coming to this place, and I have always loved my dining experiences here. I especially like a dish called baby bak choi which has the best cooked vegetables in this city. The Chinese broccoli dish that is served here is very tender, succulent and perfectly prepared. I also like the noodles which are cooked in a Singaporean style and the pork served with stewed vegetables.
The restaurant has been around for more than twenty years and maintains its reputation of good quality food. the menu is elaborate and the dishes are authentic. the dim sums are superb. the portions are generous. The prices are steep but considering the experience, it is worth it. The staff is proficient and the ambiance amazing.

After a rather active morning, my mind was on one thing and one thing only: dim sum.
Knowing that they don't take reservations at lunchtime, we made our way to Royal China in Queensway, and arrived to a mass of people clutching what looked like raffle tickets. We quickly realised that it was the method to the madness for this queue of hungry people, and quickly got one ourselves.
We queued for an hour… what is it with me and being so determined to wait for my food lately? Well, if anything is a good cause, it's dim sum.
An hour of grumbling stomachs later (we killed time playing Trivial Pursuit on my phone, and I lost. I blame the hunger) -
Quite the feast.
From top to bottom: crispy duck rolls, pan fried gyoza, prawn cheung fun, crispy spiced turnip cakes, scallop dumplings, prawn and chive dumplings, pork and prawn siu mai, sticky rice in lotus leaf, steamed buns with char siu beef.
The service here is so fast, the food delicious and piping hot, and the dishes reasonably priced. It's one of my favourite places for comforting, no fuss dim sum, but maybe next time we won't go at peak time on a Sunday. Or at the very least, we'll play Trivial Pursuit while we queue again, and I will win.

I love the range of Chinese dishes they provide, the menu can go for miles.
Within the chaos of Bayswater and Queensway, lies a different chaos. A chaos of hunger, dodging food trays and loud praise for the food. Packed and delightful, Royal China is a restaurant you can trust for quality and quantity.
Some dishes fall below par (their lobster) but all things considered, including the price, it is a good place to go with a group of friends, or a nice dinner with the family.
What I really appreciate, the host. Friendly, humorous, and cheeky. Making you wonder what other delights they have to offer.
Just a small tip, there is no phone reception, so say your goodbyes to all your social media friends at the door.
The décor of the Royal China in Queensway had been an unchanging fixture for many years, its distinctive gold and black lacquer room featuring in a scene in the excellent 2000 movie Sexy Beast. Finally the owners invested in a refurbishment, the restaurant reopening in December 2011 after a multi-month refit. The new dining room looks spookily like the old one, though with the partitions between tables removed. I am not sure this is an improvement, as the room now is just one cavernous space. In place of the gold and black lacquer panelled walls are now, er, gold and black lacquer panelled walls, albeit with some slightly different patterns. I gather that the kitchen is now bigger.
The menus have been reprinted, but little else seems different. The garnish for the prawns with cashew nut dish was a little different, but the dish was of the same standard. The staff still seems unable to bring starters to the table at the same time. Honey-barbecued pork was tasty, with a good sweet soy-based sauce and generous slices of pork, and gai lan was as good as ever. Just as before, if you order a beer it will arrive either within seconds or (more likely) not at all. The bill was £40 a head including drinks. The upshot is that very little appears to have changed: in the case of The Royal China, I’ll take that as a good result.
The Royal China raised the standard of Chinese cooking in London, and to this day is better than anything in Chinatown. Go either at lunch for dim sum (for which you cannot book) or for the evening meal (where booking is wise, as this is seriously popular with the Chinese community). The decor makes the place look like a 1970s disco, but the food is the thing. Service is extremely efficient in this large operation, but don't expect it to be cuddly.
If going for dim sum at the weekend long queues form outside the door, so get there by 10:50 a.m. (it opens at 11:00) if you are to be sure of avoiding a lengthy wait. There are lots of great dishes, such as the divine steamed prawn dumpling with coriander, and you can supplement the dim sum choices with dishes from the evening menu. Another favourite is char sui steamed bun, light and fluffy on the outside and with pork inside with a hint of sweetness. Prawns and chive dumplings are also excellent. A new dish is the fried fish with fried angel hair pasta coating. Overall the dim sum is not quite as sophisticated as that at Hakkasan or Yauatcha, but after these it is the best in London.
From the vast evening menu, my favourites are the baby bak choi (if only most top French restaurants could cook vegetables this well), ultra tender steamed gai lan (Chinese broccoli), the Singapore noodles and the belly pork with stewed vegetables, which may sound odd but has remarkably tender meat. Steamed sea bass is perfectly timed, and just about any prawn dish is also good. Another excellent vegetarian dish is stir-fried pea shoots with garlic, which have lovely texture and plenty of flavour. They even make beancurd edible here - try the beancurd with crab meat. One tip is to spurn the usual rice and ask for the rice in Lotus leaf - this is beautifully fragrant. The branch in Baker Street serves the same menu and is nearly at the same standard, though I fractionally prefer the Queensway branch.
Go to Royal China for lunch. They don't serve dim sum in the evenings, which is definately their best dish in my opinion. Also the atmosphere is average (has that stale Chinese vibe) and the service appaling, yet there is always a 30 minute (minimum) wait to get a table at lunch on a weekend - that is a fair indication that the Dim Sum is very good and decently priced! They say you can slip a bit of casheesh and get a table earlier - guess that is true anywhere! Unfortunately money talks!
Very good Chinese restaurant. It’s a great pleasure to discover that the greatest Chinese restaurants are not located in china town. The staff is very welcoming and everything we ordered was very good. We had fried soft shell crab and pork dumplings as a starter and seafood udon plus chili chicken as a main (~50£). The portions were filling. The amazing part was that the dishes were looking exactly as the pictures in the menu!! This really helps your ordering!! We will surely come back to try the dim sum menu available for lunch only.
The service was a bit slow.
Toilets are inside (also disable).
Vegan and vegetarian choice available.
Myself and my friend visited Royal China in Bayswater on Friday and had the loveliest meal. The staff were very attentive and helpful when it came to ordering and telling us more about the dishes. Everything that we ordered was delicious - especially the crispy duck, lemon chicken and fried chilli beef. We were pleasantly surprised by the dessert. We ordered apple coated in toffee and it was perfectly cooked. Would highly recommend this restaurant whether you're eating with friends, going on a date or having a family meal.
It is true that I spend a lot of time on London, in fact it’s fast becoming my second home, and whilst my knowledge of the Yorkshire Cuisine Scene is just a tad more than the average guy on the street, my knowledge of London eateries is less so, albeit I still know it relatively well.
But one thing that has (up until now) escaped me is a decent Chinese Restaurant, whilst Soho is a forest of Chinese eateries with so many which one do you choose?
Fresh from an afternoon sat in Green Park in the rare epic sunshine of the capital sipping Rhubarb & Ginger G&T’s I made the quick journey to Queensway Station where the Royal China is located almost adjacent to.
On one of the hottest days of the year the welcome cold blast from the air conditioning was a welcome feel, also was the sight of a packed restaurant filled with people who looked like they knew a thing or two about authentic Chinese food, always a very good sign.
The decor of the restaurant is, i’m reliably informed, authentic in comparison to the great restaurants you’ll find in China, almost formal in its style, white table cloths, waiters dressed in black, bright white lighting and a lobster tank, you get the idea.
Whilst the toilets leave a lot to be desired, not normally something I’d comment on but all of my companions did mention it, the service is impeccable, with a menu this vast in choice we elect to seek advice from the waitress who delivers a blow by blow account of what we should be eating, we take her word for it.
As so the dishes start flowing, Peking Duck with Hoisin and Wraps, Crispy Baby Squid, Soft Shell Crab, Honey Roasted Pork, Sweet & Sour King Prawns.
Again where the restaurant disappoints in presentation they delight in flavour so much so that we all agree this is one of the finest Chinese Meals I’ve ever encountered.
The rice is fluffy and tasty the noodles are seasoned well and accompany the dishes perfectly but what impresses me the most is the pork, it’s juicy, tender, finger licking good.
Royal China have a number of restaurants located around the city including the Royal China Club, regarded as the best in London. If you are in need of a Chinese fix and find yourself in the Capital then my strong recommendation is Royal China, authentic awesome Chinese food!!
2 of us came here on a Sunday late morning. There are usually long queues out the door but we were early so were seated straight away.
We ordered:
- Prawn & Chive Dumplings £3.95. Portion is much bigger than other places, delicious
- Seafood Dumplings (a special that was on that day so I don’t remember the exact name and price)
- Sesame Prawn Rolls £3.95
- Plain Cheung Fun w/ Peanut Sauce £3.95
- Seafood Baked Rice
- Crispy Pork Belly. Very good quality, soft but crispy ok top
- Tapioca Yam & Coconut £3.65. Portion is much bigger than other places.
- Black Sesame Mochi with Peanut. Served warm, not too sweet and absolutely yummy
Everything was really delicious. This place is slightly more expensive than other dim sum places but it’s definitely worth it. You can see it in the quality and size of the dishes.
The staff were all pleasant and efficient. Highly recommend but beware of long queues during regular meal times.
After having some quite dismal experiences around Chinatown, we decided to have a brunch in a more "posh" area with well reputed Dim Sum. It was pure bliss for a foodie.
I have tried Dim Sum many Places outside Hong Kong - but this was the closest I have come so far.
When we arrived, there was a waiting queue - not unexpected on a sunday, but getting a "raffle-ticket", and told the wait was approx. 20 mins - quite agreeable -they have a "Picture menu", and it looked VERY promising - so checking out the "Hood" for a little while in Londons first snow of the year, was only whetting the appetite.
When we came back, it was not a long wait until we were led to a table, seated, and presented with menues When it comes to Dim Sum, I always feel like "one of everything please" - but wisely we settled for doing 2 rounds - favourites first, then a exploratory second round just to fill up any suspected crannies in the tummy.
We started off with Prawn & Chive Duplings - deliciously fresh steamed, and crunchy prawns perfectly cooked - then Prawn Dumplings - also perfect crunch - off to Minced Pork Dumpling with Shrimp - a staple any Dim Sum cannot do without - Honey Roast Pork Puffs, warm crunchy pastry with a tangy filling, - then my all time favourite - Cheung Fun with Prawns, a dumply chewy roll with a dark soy sauce do dip in - and some Pan Fried Gyozas - all enjoyed with steaming Jasmine Tea - a feast fit for an Chinese Emperor.
The tummy was feeling the effort here, but stil too many tempting items on the menu - round two was considered - and given a go ahead.
Scallop Dumplings - a tender taste spiced nearly to perfection, a second og at the Cheung Fun - this time Honey Roast Pork, some Sesame Prawn Rolls, which was the suprise of the day - crunchy, sesame-nutty and super-crunchy prawns - it formerly exploded of taste in the mouth - I lack words to describe it. Rounded of with Glutinous Rice in Lotus Leaf, steamed and tasty.
We split a Mango Pudding in the end - I dont think either of us would have been able to finish one off alone. Tasty, and definitely something I will try to play around with in the home Kitchen as well.
It was`nt cheap - but then again - if you value whats on your plate by quality and tasty experience - I would say this was a good buy! Next time in London, I`ll definitely be back!
Good quality dim sum. A little expensive and portion sizes for dishes such as fried noodles could be a little more generous. Trying to get the attention of the waiter/waitress on a busy Sunday afternoon can test your patience... as can the queue for a table on a Sunday. Still, the dim sum is worth the wait.
Comfortable and friendly staff. The menus are in English and has many photos.
The atmosphere is nice and the staff are attentive. The taste of the food is great and authentic
Authentic Chinese cuisine. Really fast service. Food was exceptional. Crispy duck was amazing, thick plum sauce and big portion. Also had spicy prawns and egg friend rice. Recommend visiting this restaurant.

This place was recommended to me by a friend and with good reason. Good authentic dim sum at reasonable prices. We had 4 dim sums, 1 wonton noodle soup and a dessert that totalled to about £50+ (2 pax). The service was speedy and attentive. Although the restaurant is quite big, I definitely recommend booking ahead of time especially on weekends (and if you’re with a big group).
Very good dim sum... authentic... please do not expect wonderful service... the focus is food quality...
