Ive known the Fryers Delight since 1987 and it has managed to stay true to itself through all these years. No frills, no fuss. This is the real deal. Long live this place I say.
While our national diet has improved and broadened beyond recognition in the intervening years there is very much a place for the simple things done well.
Lovely service, good atmosphere and not to mention mouth watering good food deffo recommend xxx
Agree with the other posts on here - fish and chips as they used to be and some of the best I've tasted for a very long time. Period decor with friendly staff but fatties be warned the benches are fixed to the tables so it can be a bit of a squeeze!
The Fryer's Delight has been my favourite chippy since I was at primary school in the early sixties. There can be few sit down eateries in the central area that are quite as unpretentious and reasonably priced.
Best of all though are their fish and chips, which are all fried in beef dripping; forget all the trendy double or triple fried chips, nothing nowhere matches the traditional taste of theirs.
Not only great fish and chips.they have the friendliest staff around.nice builders tea too.
As an Englishman it's my best fish and chip shop in London
Fish and chips with a mug of tea. Yes, they do alternatives but you can't beat the traditional fayre.
I have been coming here regularly since the 1970s, and the quality has never changed. Best fish and chips in London!
A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Plenty to choose from the menu. I had cod and chips and a cup of tea. Delicious. They don't accept card payments though so please make sure you have enough money on you.
The best fish&chips in london!
Great place, good food and superb crew!! We will return!
One of the best Fish and Chip shops in London!
Easily the best fish n chips in london. They have everything you need from pickled onions to mushy peas and gravy!!!
Top chippy old school just like f&c used to be and still should be.
Lovely fish, chips, service and location. Plus I left my purse in the restaurant which was returned to my front door the very next day by a nice man that worked there and found it.
The best fish and chips so far i know..
This place is having really good fish and chips love eating here a lot their chicken pie Heaven in my mouth good portion is too big for me I had cod fish and it is amazing friendly staff and quiet fast service
Really good fish and chips. So fresh as it’s fried on the spot. Friendly staff and quite fast service. Portion is too big for me! I had cod fish and it’s amazing. The fried shrimps are very small and few pieces
Place runned by very nice portuguese gentlemans. They serve a award winning fish & chips. And some pies that I like very much! I recommend it to everyone.
My university is on Strand and for a whole week I'd had such a craving for fish and chips that, one night, I had to resort to zomato to find a place that did a good fishnchip. The Fryer's Delight wasn't too far, it had great reviews, and I had to go to Holborn anyway to take the train home, so I set off in search of it.
A tad hard to find as it was partly hidden under scaffolding at the time, but once I entered, I was greeted warmly and given the last table at the end. It was full of older people enjoying their fish or pie and mash. And halfway through my meal, a while horde of students stopped by to get some takeaways. It also smelled really good in there. I ordered the fresh cod and chips.
Fried to perfection, crisp on the outside, soft and tender on the inside, my cod was so good. I doused it with some lemon and tar tar sauce and ate it all. The chips were thick cut and massive and so so good. It was a huge portion and took me some time to get through it but I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I had my book to keep me company and the lovely ambiance to make me feel happy.
It was a tad on the pricy side, especially for a student, but it was worth it and it totally hit the spot.
Of course I am not meant to like this... After all deep fat fryer is banned. Still, if you yield to cod & chips temptations this is a real delight.
Long before the Turkish kebabs, Lebanese Fried Chicken, Indian Curries and Chinese takeway invade London's streets, shops pedding Fish and Chips used to dominate and fill up the gap that McDonald and Burger King somehow missed. I try to avoid the kebabs a
Absolutely classic fish and chip joint in central London, complete with old school dining experience. Perfect sized portions, a touch expensive, but difficult to avoid paying a lot for cod these days!
First time having fish and chips in London. It was good, but it wasn’t great. Tasted bland to me, but the batter was nice and light and crisp. Service was great, and it was very busy.
Cons: Cash only!
Pros: Fuss-free fish & chips, good price, nice waitress.
Saw some reviews saying the fish was bland - in contrary I enjoyed that as you can adjust the taste with the condiments yourself! Great for people like me who find most food out there too salty.
A typical fish and chips outlet, offering fried cod, haddock, etc although the cod tastes more like hake. Colour of fish meat is not as white. The chips can be good. Great and thickly sliced potatoes are fried in typical English style. Best eaten with salt and vinegar.
The fish is nice and crispy.
The chips are nice and crispy.
Fish and chips is £10.45 for dinning in.
The fish cake is also quite nice.
The decoration is in vintage style.
*Not Accept Credit Card*
*At least spending £10 for dinning in*
*the chef keeps whistling which can be a little bit annoying*
We had cod and chips twice here and it was amazing, and the price is probably the best you will find in London. The staff is very nice and friendly.
It’s just one of the loveliest places I’ve ever been to and the food is just delicious. You are served quickly and the few seats they offer are cozy and neat. Definitely worth a visit.
Cash only restaurant!
Really nice fish and chips. About the best I have had in the UK in 24 years. They were NZ and Australian quality and we really enjoyed it. We ordered the haddock and chips and the fish was very tasty and the batter was lovely and crunchy.
When we dined in, we were so surprised as the meal was served so quickly! In about 5 minutes or less.
Take note: Was a surprise though, as they only accepted cash where everyone else has turned to card payments. I had to pop next door on the corner where there is a ATM machine. Wasn't pleased that I had to pay 99p to get the money out. Apart from that, I recommend these guys. We have been back since for takeaways. Batter went soft but was still very tasty.
Lovely fish and chips, delicious reasonable price, lovely atmosphere 90s.
Essence of British dining. It is quite good but lacking any spices. The fish is served bery fast judging by other tables. We have also ordered cheese and onion pie and we were informed that it takes about 10 minutes to prepare it. When we received both dishes the pie was completely cold and fish nice and warm so not really sure what the waiting time was for... Still would recommend the fish and chips if looking for something truly English.
One of the oldest and most authentic fish&chip shops in Holborn. Has a great atmosphere and decor like a time capsule from the 1970s. Great plaice 😁
Everything is fried in beef dripping, so the food is great! We definitely need more restaurants that fry in beef fat. However, I’m deducting a star because there is a sign up saying they accept credit cards for orders over 10 pounds but when I tried to use a card they said cash only, which was a little annoying :/
We wanted a simple fish 'n' chips and found this well-reviewed, unassuming cafe. Pleasant staff. We ordered fried cod, which was prepared freshly on the spot, and chips. Delicious meal. Price reasonable. Would go there again.
NOTE: it was cash only.
Probably the best cod I've had in years. Chips were spot on too, but the fish was something else, batter so light and crispy and bursting with flavour. Very reasonably priced to I thought. Would highly recommend.
