Best coffee place in London; super friendly staff, fantastic blends and a very tempting choice of baked goodies to go with it. Can't praise enough.
I spent a week in London, going to different art galleries and coffee shops all over town but this place was hands down the best. Amazing atmosphere, super nice people and the most important - coffee to die for.
Ordered a cup of tea. It was different than the normal tea but what matters is that it was really good. Must try for tea lovers! Also the interior's quite cool.
One of the first orders of business for me is: coffee. After lunch, we stopped by this cafe - appealing already by the name itself. It was particularly hot during our stay in London so I opted for an iced coffee which I enjoyed. Took my coffee to go - but the place had a simple interior, friendly baristas..as a side note, it's always nice to see a cafe such as this one (or organization) to be committed to charity. Definitely check this place out especially after lunch on Leather Lane.
They do a great flat white here and have nice, friendly, unpretentious staff who actually remember your name. Unfortunately their selection of cakes is very overpriced and disappointing in flavour.
I arrived on Holborn heading for a meeting a little earlier than expected and searched the web for a coffee place. This place topped the list so even though I was beside a place that boasted of the best espresso in London I took the short walk to the Dept of coffee and social affairs on Leather Lane.
I ordered an Americano and porridge (it was freezing that morning!) I had a choice between sweeter coffee or more caramel nuttier. I went with the caramel one.
Place is like super hipster. The coffee is fab. Have to nicest porridge ever! The staff were really polite and nice. They check when they bring the coffee / food order to your table is you need anything else.
A little prices apparently but given I'm used to Dublin prices it was on par.
Definitely worth a visit.
All you need for tea is warm water and tea leaves. Such a simple activity has, though, been transformed into what I believe to be a billion dollar industry: cafes (yes yes they also sell coffee whatever).
Excellent artisan coffee, currently my favourite in London. Much better than Caffe Vergnano or even Monmouth
I regularly disagree with one of my friends on where the best coffee is in central London. She takes a long black and I tend towards a more milky brew. I haven’t undertaken research in the strictest sense of the word, but my feeling is that baristas tend to prefer to pump out: a) Gutsy shots of inky espresso, or, b) Lush silky milk blends They rarely look lovingly at long blacks. So for my friend ‘M’, coffee often comes in the form of a lukewarm brownish cup of wetnessness. I almost feel mean confessing that my perfectly brewed caramel cup of joy is as delicious as it is. But then she’ll over-enthuse about a café where the lattes are just a bit ‘meh’. It’s all in the eye of the coffee drinker. For a latte or cappuccino it’s all about the temperature of the milk. Milk that’s been boiled to Hell’s average ambient temperature will kill off all the sugars in the milk and damage the protein. It will taste foul. Milk should be gently warmed to around 60-65 degrees. And not a centigrade o
The cherry chocolate cake is like the cake you always wanted, but never got, at your childhood birthday parties. It is outrageously moist, densely chocolatey, and not too sweet. Lovely cherries nestling at the bottom provide an added pop of flavour. Blanketed with a silky dark chocolate ganache with just a hint of cherry tang and lightly dusted with gr
Leather Lane in EC1 is a funny one - I have always liked it but have never really had either a food or coffee reason to go there, traditionally the cafes have been more of the greasy spoon variety. Years ago I also used to like going to a bar called Clerkenwell House on Hatton Wall, just off Leather Lane. Anyway I digress - the good news is that there is now a top notch coffee destination on Leather Lane, specifically the wonderfully named Department of Coffee and Social Affairs at No. 14-16 (which is the
Great coffee here with a selection of three different roasts. Cakes looked good too. Unfortunately there aren't loads of plug spots if you come here to get work done, so it's probs more of a quick stop than a sit-in job. Nice minimal decor and friendly staff
Simply amazing coffee place! It is a bit expensive but worth it.. baristas They are really nice and the place has its own touch.. plus they have different beans so you choose which one you want (they gladly help you to decide), coffee is just brilliant.. beautiful beautiful coffee.. I normally don't like strong coffee and I normally drink with just one shot and lots of milk (latte) since coffee is normally too bitter for me and tastes bad but here asked for two shots and I love it! So now I think that I like quite strong coffee but it has to be good quality one! I think Costa, Starbucks and other chains cannot beat this place.. If you are a coffee lover just treat yourself with a cup of a great coffee!
Coffee was nice. But décor and layout not quite for me. The layout is spread out and not conducive to a lively atmosphere which I like in coffee shops.
I would still much prefer to drink here than at a high street chain.
Checked this place out today after having it on my list for sometime.
Good range of food, with all dietary requirements (both savoury and sweet vegan options!) and a wide range of coffee options as well.
Had an oat milk latte - was pretty good, their home blend of coffee beans is nice and smooth with a mellow after taste.
They have a good reward system - if a bit gimmicky with needing to “check in” in store to get a stamp (it requires the app to have location permissions, as well as a picture of you - but privacy invasive for my liking to be honest) so that’s one reason behind 4/5.
The other is the fact it’s a surplus for non diary milks, should be encouraging plant based, at least make the soy milk no additional cost!
Truly excellent coffee, although it is quite expensive even for London (£3.15 for a flat white). However it is a great place to work with lots of seating including a bar overlooking the street, good Wi-Fi and lots of natural light. It's quite possible to sit for a couple of hours without feeling unwelcome (at least on a weekday). Well recommended.
Consistent quality of coffee across their various branches across London. One of the better coffee places. Love this branch for their wall murals and location right next to leather Lane street market.
Another exceptional London specialty coffee house. Loved the flat white. Stellar customer service
Great place to be. Lot of working ppl in the early hours. Lunch/coffee rush at noon. Very dedicated and nice personnel. Would come back. You can book meeting rooms!
Surprisingly cheap filter for London, considering its actually decent coffee. Also tried the Almont croissant and it was great.
Plenty of space on weekends. Avo smash is filling and spicy. Filter coffee is solid.
Went to the Farringdon branch next to the station. Lovely friendly staff and accommodated coffee to my needs. Nice selection of sweet treats. Good to pick up and go before a train journey. Costa is nearby but long queues and the coffee tastes really good here. Unique coffee shop
