While I'd agree that £20 is too low for 2 (which it always is for decent sushi in central London), the quality is excellent, the service attentive and the space nice and cozy

It's one of the hidden jewels of the city. One of my favourite places to have awesome sushi with very cozy ambiance, an option to sit with folded legs & have that lovely warm evening with your loved one or friends. If you are lucky enough to be served by Samantha, not only your day would be made but, Kurumaya will become your favourite place too.

Great lunch place in the city. Went there with a friend for lunch in the city and loved the interior design as well as the food. Authentic and inexpensive place to eat Japanese a bento box.

An enjoyable meal. We were looking for a place to have dinner after wandering about One New Change at St Pauls and found the restaurant when searching on the mobile.
There's a sushi bar at ground level and the restaurant was in the basement. There was a lot on the menu and after spending a considerable time deciding, we ordered a soft shell crab maki (crispy and generous), sea urchin (wasn't crunchy), grilled eel, a herbally chicken, beef and quail egg broth (warmingly nice on a cold rainy evening), a refreshing sea weed salad (can't recall the name) and mochi for dessert.
We were pleasantly surprised as we didn't expect to enjoy the food very much. It was fresh and tasty and we were very full afterwards. A slight niggle was that the broth could do with less salt and the dessert selection could be much improved as the mochi was not made there (bought probably) and tasted a bit bland.
Service was ok as there was only one waiter serving and it was quite hard to get his attention sometimes.
I would recommend it and will definitely make an attempt to return again. Bill came to about £25-30 per person. (8.5/10)

Japanese restaurant serving class sushi, bento boxes and donburi sets at competitive prices. Good choice for business lunch as the staff are conscious of time constraints. Chirashi Donburi - hamachi, salmon, tuna, seabass, tako, ebi, saba, crabstick, tama

I bought some take out Sushi for lunch. It was very nice and felt you got a bit more fish than you do in the usual packs from the likes of Itsu or Wasabi. It was however expensive (what London lunches aren’t!?) at £11.50, but on par with similar foods. However, reading the other comments on the cleanliness of the place, I’m not sure I’ll be coming back. Shame, because I do enjoy a nice Sushi restaurant and saw they also have a conveyor belt set up too. Would have liked to return but going to give it a miss.

Upstairs has a takeaway counter and seating with a conveyor belt for a quick lunch. But downstairs is a gem - lovely seating and excellent food. There is quite a lot of seats available considering it’s central London and I’ve never had to wait long for a table. It can get a little loud but still lovely.

Great dining experience on tatami mats. Loved the spicy tuna maki roll. Unagi ju was tad bit sweet, only other feedback is that waiting service could be improved.

I just found this place while looking for a nice restaurant for a date. It's such a precious gem in the city. The food is just amazing, presentation is also very authentic. They have two different spots so you can choose between running sushi upstairs or enjoying downstairs take service. The decoration is just perfect too. We were attended by a very nice waiter called Rafael which was very friendly and helpful. I'll definitely go back there soon again.

Simply spectacular Japanese food. Every single thing I tried was the best I've had, and I've been in many, many Japanese restaurants. Top quality!!

First time sushi for me so I cannot compare, but I did enjoy it. Tried salmon, tuna, and eel as well as some beef on rice and vegetables. Really tasty! I even liked the Wasabi. Prices are fine for dinner in London. The staff was nice as well. Just one thing, downstairs is limited mobile reception and we couldn't find wifi.

Very pleased with the sushi. The food overall is of good quality and we were very impressed that the sushi was done properly (a tiny bit of wasabi between the fish slice and rice is a good indicator). Price is reasonable given the location and the quality (the best Japanese restaurant given the relatively reasonable London price). It was very busy, and the tables were really close to each other. Not the most comfortable set up, but not a major problem. Staff is also very helpful.

My favourite Japanese place in the city, been going there for years for take outs and eat ins. Tucked away in the city. Upstairs your typical sushi bar and downstairs a more authentic restaurant. Great for a client lunch or with friends.

The sushi in this place is top quality and reasonably priced. The sharing platters for two, three and four (£60, £80, £100 respectively) are very well balanced and are beautifully presented. In the picture: sushi and sashimi sharing player for three, priced £80, features a sufficient amount sushi for hungry eaters. Nowhere near the level of quality or presentation, but still pretty nice, is the chicken katsu curry (if sushi isn’t your thing).
