Excellent food and good service too. The vada are nice and crispy. Sweet Vatil appam. The food is nicely spicy but not exceedingly spicy.
I came here not realising my wife used to come here all the time with her family when they were younger. Apparently it was excellent then and I agree it's still very good.
It's easy to get carried away and assume because of the price you're not getting much. Yeah that's not the case. Three dishes and I struggled to hit £12.
Ended up having to take half home so my wife could relive her child hood at dinner.
Devilled Potatoes were excellent, the onion and seasoning really made it. Soft and flowery still.
Aubergine curry was perhaps a bit oily , so go easy but very good to mix in
Chicken kotthu I preferred over the mutton hoppers. The hoppers were hotter though I felt.
Overall I really enjoyed my meal but over ate. Totally self inflicted pain but worth it.
The late dinner that hits the spot, effortlessly. No muss, no fuss, just fantastic. The surprise win. Dosas and a generous portion of devilled prawns, that are just as they should be, perfectly cooked and smothered in onions and chillis. A heaping plate of meaty mutton kothu, with fresh and sweet seeni sambol. Quick and friendly. I'm inspired, nostalgic, comforted and regretful...that I didn't order more food. And wondering if I need to make my way to Tooting Broadway more often.
Superb Evening. Having taken a mate who has experienced the cuisine at source, we were both delighted with the food here - absolutely superb. The service was also excellent with our waiter guiding us through the menu patiently.

Wow what a Surprise. This Place has changed my opinion of a Take away Curry, I normally love them. However they disagree with me. I loved this and so did my body! Amazing value never seen such an amount of food for £20. It is spicy but not over the top, watch out for the little chills hidden away though. The Shop looks a little tired, Don't let that put you off. The food is sensational. Will travel from far to go there again !!!
That kind of speciality grub is all very well for expatriates and I do recommend Jaffna House above all the local dosai emporia, but the great bargain here is the £6 vegetarian lunch time thali, served until 3pm, as seen on the right, which includes (clockwise from bottom left): two types of curried potato, one with some veg and gravy, t'other with coconut; fabulous spinach curry; dal; wonderful aubergine curry; fried cabbage; plus multi-coloured rice and poppadom.
There's nothing quite so precious to a jaded food blogger with a run of far too many mediocre meals under his belt than a recommendation from a clued-up local. Technically, I should also consider Tooting my neighbourhood - it's only really the other side
About a month ago, I met Slow Food Kitchen , sloLondon and Table for One in Tooting to explore the neighbourhood. Little did I know that what was going to be a stroll and then lunch in a Sri Lankan restaurant was going to turn into a full blown food crawl. Stomachs, on your marks, get set…. go. With empty stomachs at 1pm and late arrivals, we early birds stared longingly at the Dosa n Chutny across from Tooting Broadway tube station. I’d heard very good things about the place from at least 3 other people and a decision was made to have “breakfast” there when everyone arrived. It would be light, really. First to arrive were Idly (2 pieces for £1.60), fluffy steamed rice and lentil pillows served with a couple of wonderfully spicy chutnys and a mild soothing sambar. Two dosas were ordered too – we’d heard that this place sold the best dosas in London. I have no idea if that’s true but they were indeed excellent, all thin and crispy. An absolute gem. Cannot fault this place. Don't be fooled by the somewhat retro interior, the food is top notch, staff are friendly and the drinks are very reasonably priced.
The Jaffna special ticks all the boxes and the devilled starters are sublime. Have converted everyone I have taken along as a guest, absolutely worth the trek.
This has to be the finest restaurant serving Sri Lankan cuisine in London. Don't let the outdated look of the building fool you. For starters try the mutton roll and a devilled dish of your choice. The devilled meat are perfectly cooked with the most authentic Sri Lankan spices.
For mains go for either the Lankan speciality of Kottu (shredded flat bread) with a choice of your meat or a Jaffna special dish. The flavors are simply awesome but do let them know if you prefer it less spicy. They serve variety of 'platter' (thali) dishes as well which should be well worth a try. Oh and did I say the prices are amazingly affordable? Don't miss this hidden gem if you are around the area.
This is a fabulous little place. Was originally planning on going to the nearby Kothu restaurant, but they messed up the booking. Ended up here, and it went beyond my expectations. The food was so delicious that it brought back fond memories from home (Sri Lanka). Every single dish had the perfect combination of spices and flavours, and three portions were more than filling, at very reasonable prices. Glad I discovered this place, and will most definitely return.
Amazing food!! Had the Mutton rolls and they were phenomenal. The seafood Kottu and the Mutton Biriyani was delicious. The staff was very friendly and had no lines. If you are in the area. I recommend this place for Sri Lankan food.
The Kothu roti was very fresh and nice! Mutton rolls were to die for! 10/10 would recommend if you are in Tooting. The QR codes were cool 👌

The decor was beautiful and simple.
The devilled squid perfect spice level and the fried string hoppers with egg, delicious and filling. Masala tea, needed a bit more intensity in flavouring, hence the 4 stars. Price excellent.

Can't recommend Jaffna House enough! They provided fantastic catering for our wedding, food was truly delicious and will be a fond memory forever for us both, with many compliments from our guests. On the day and during the lead up they had great customer service, with additional personalisation and modification of the menu as we knew our guests would struggle with the normal level of spiciness. Massive thank you from both the Bride and Groom, perfect food for a perfect day
Quiet Monday- had the mutton thali. 5 condiments with rice and mutton which is good value for lunch.
The potato, cabbage, spinhas, chick peas was all fine as the rice. Mutton curry was ok.
The popodun was soggy.
Egg hoppers was average- could be crisper with a more Flavoursome egg. it took sometime For the hopers to turn up so if ordering expect a slightly longer dining time.
The accompaniment of Sambal was also dry so had to ask for a curry to accompany.
The rasam was good.
Jaffna house is one of our favourites in Tooting. The Friday night Thali is fantastic and such a reasonable price. The team is always very helpful at recommending dishes and always welcoming. Definitely check it out if you’ve not been already!
Loved the food so much, so satisfying! The devilled mutton was delightful and the nethhali fish puttu was the fave. Would also recommend the aubergine curry, very tasty and complex!
