A style all of its own. A magnificent building, the Marquess Tavern is a superb place to visit. A great part of the Young's offering, well done to all concerned. Great beer and wonderful friendly service. A beautiful sophisticated pub. There is a simple, but well presented menu, the food looks great (I did not have time to indulge). I recommend a visit.

Our new local. Absolutely love it here ,very chilled atmosphere and authentic old English pub. Beer garden is very cosy. Great food and wonderful pints of Guinness. The staff there at the moment are top notch, sound lads!

Super tasty pub dinner in a great location. Althought not too close to any tube, this pub deserves a visit. The service was quick and the staff was cordial, great vibe. Desserts also very tasty, good choice of drinks. Bit pricey overall.

Nice spacious, bright interior, good location in a pretty residential area of Islington. I didn’t eat so can’t comment on food, bar service was good. Atmosphere - it was very quiet on the rainy Saturday afternoon we visited, hence the 3 stars. However, not a bad thing it was quiet as this was a relief after the noisy pub we’d moved on from where holding a conversation was difficult.

One of the best for atmosphere for pubs. So cozy, thanks to the decor and furniture. Good drinks and cocktails and fun selection of board games. I've come back here a few times and it's consistent. If you're in the mood for a quieter drink and good food try here.

Had a very pleasant evening beer sitting outside watching the world go (slowly) by. Friendly service too. Great pub in an extremely nice quiet corner of London. Will be back to try the food.

Discovered this beautiful pub on a Friday night. There’s a lovely outdoor patio area, with and without heaters. There’s also an indoor fireplace for the winter.
The food is great, I stuck to the standard fish and chips and friends has steak and veggie dishes. Everyone loved it.
The staff were also friendly and efficient. Good vibes in here. Can’t wait to go back

Very friendly and warm greeting at the door. My parents-in-law were visiting and the manager serving us got everything just right. Safe options for them were recommended which the enjoyed a huge amount. If you’re looking for more adventurous dishes featuring kimchi/miso etc. this probably won’t be the place. But if you’re looking for well done pub classics in an off the beaten track, relaxed and cosy atmosphere then this is it! Burger was very good but, if I’m being picky, it was on the dry side and lacked some juiciness. Wine recommendation was spot on and worked well for everything we were eating. Also the table service (while not what normally happens) fit well with the in-laws. Will be back soon! Oh and the chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and caramel was actually excellent. Thanks for a great night.

Great pub with good burgers and outdoor space.

An absolutely beautiful pub. Made to feel very at home. The hardest working bar staff I have seen yet also made time to talk to us. Highly recommend 😊

A regular haunt for us. We had our engagement drinks here.
Came again for father's day and had great fish and chips. The lady who served us was chatty and really helpful. Great sevice and great chat.
Not been in a while as we don't live as near now, but we'll be back soon.

Spacious and kid friendly, good selection of vegeterian food, super friendly staff. One of the best for a family lunch on weekends in the area.

After two weeks in Asia, I was desperate for some good pub food. I know some of you will think I’m mad, after all British food has such a bad reputation, right? Wrong! You’ve been listening to far too many Americans and we all know where that leads!. My very own American had been recommended The Marquess Tavern in Canonbury as a place with amazing food. I was pretty sceptical, but as soon as we walked in the door and checked out the menu, I couldn’t believe I’d never been before. Seafood, steaks, sides aplenty, it’s like the mothership was calling me home. In case you didn’t know, I am obsessed with sauces. To call me the Queen of Condiments would be an understatement.

With so many good gastropubs in the neighborhood, Jon and I don't visit some as often as we'd like. The Marquess Tavern , for example, is no more than a 15-minute walk from our flat, but because it's on the "other side" of Upper Street - the Canonbury sid

DO NOT BOOK HERE FOR BIRTHDAY OR ANY EVENTS!!!. I have a few issues with this place. The first is that it used to be fantastic independent local pub, great food and a cute interior. It was then purchased by a chain, they made the interior super cheesy, generally soulless and then the food became god awful. It is so sad to see a place go this far down hill. It is such a waste of space in a good neighbourhood location.
I was then shocked when my friend booked it for her birthday party, but she said she just picked it because it was a good location. She booked an area of 14 people on a Sunday, 2 weeks ahead and called to confirm a week before and 2 days before. The day of the party they cancelled on her less than 2 hours before the booking!!!! They had no good reason and told her so late there was no chance to book any other location. On top of that they were so rude they reduced her to tears. . .on her birthday. So unacceptable.

There are better places to spend your money. Won't be coming back.. Usually love this pub, and like coming here as it is local, but had a particularly miserable blonde girl working behind the bar, who scowled at me when I asked for cheesy chips. Not really quite sure how putting some cheese on an order of chips is so difficult and why they would not want to take my money for an easy request, especially as it is usually empty in here. But as the miserable girl said, "we don't do things for customers." Point taken. Will think thrice about coming back here anytime soon. Her bad attitude and lack of basic customer service has turned me off of this place.

Worst Service Ever. I went twice for birthdays with groups of 12 to 15 people. The food was average, especially since they removed the lamb chops from their already limited menu (for better quality and wider choice in the neighbourhood go to "the house").

When it came to paying they systematically tried to charge us 2 or 3 drinks that either nobody ordered or that were already paid for.

The service is actually the worst I've ever seen in London!! Being French, I couldn't help but notice that the French managers taught all the clichés to their staff: they are arrogant, unhelpful, rude, slow, you name it they have it. One of the 2 waitresses that was there on Sunday was just revolting, she had so much attitude and so little skills!! So my advice is the following: if Eurostar tickets are too expensive and you want to have a feel of the worse service you can get in Paris: Marquess Tavern is the perfect alternative.

And remember: the service will be included in the bill BUT the smile will definitely NOT be on the menu!!!

Cosy pub, decent burger good chips nice ales. Worth a repeat visit but not going to set your world on fire. Have heard good reviews of platters and shared meat dishes, will give a try to other places 1st. Duke of Cambridge is a better gastro pub nr angel

Went for Sunday lunch. Nice place, friendly staff and a pleasant relaxed vibe. Main course (rack of lamb) was excellent, the rest okay. Wine was a bit too warm. Our muttley was well looked after by our waitress and got a bowl of water. I'd happily go back.

Marquess Tavern is a cozy local pub located on Canonbury Street in Islington. The main focal point of the pub is the central bar, and circling the bar are tables where customers can sit and enjoy a drink or have a bite to eat. Marquess Tavern won the Time Out Gastro Pub of the Year award in 2006, however the current layout of the pub (where there is no dedicated separate dining area) suggests that Marquess Tavern’s focus has shifted from gastropub to boozer. We tried the quail wrapped in smoked bacon (£7.25) with beetroot and orange. It was a pleasant dish with the quail being tasty and moist. But there was no caramelisation on the quail and it needed more browning on the skin for greater flavour and a more superior finish. Quail wrapped in bacon A wild boar Scotch egg with mustard (£5.95) was really tasty and nicely done. The egg was cooked just right, and boar meat was packed with flavour. The coating was crispy and the mustard was a nice touch. Scotch egg From the mains, a 21-day ag

As is customary for a Sunday, we thought it best to go for roasts and pints. Our pub of choice was The Alwyne. Alas, it was not to be. Given we booked a table of 15, we were disturbed to find they had gone to no effort whatsoever to accomodate us, placing
