I have a bit of love/hate relationship with Shoreditch. I LOVE that it's bursting with exciting new pop-ups and incredible restaurants. I love the fact it's a bit grotty in places but also buzzing with creativity and history and I really love all the food (did I mention that?). But...a lot of the time, that's all weighed out by how much I really hate the train journey.
Strongroom is placed nicely next the music studio of the same name. There is always something going on around here and this is the perfect spot to observe it all. Good sized beer garden and a great selection of beers (I recommend the goose island IPA).
The food here is also good, mac n cheese croquettes in a Jack Daniels smokey sauce - need I say more? Not too oily, cheese is nice and melted - It's a pub so don't expect gourmet fine dining, but as far as beer snacks go this is great.
My girlfriend and I ate here last week end. We had the ribs and a burger with chips and the chipotle mayonnaise, which were all very good. They have a large beer selection as well (draft and bottle). The place is kinda tucked away in the alley, so you have to really be looking for it. The place is very eclectic on the inside, which I really enjoyed. The staff is very nice and friendly.
All in all though, a good visit, and we would definetly eat there again!
Perfectly located in the heart of Shoreditch (5 minutes walking from Old Street tube station), the Strong room is hidden in a Curtain road's backyard.
During the sunny days is the perfect place to spent an all afternoon after a big meal on the garden.
Moreover, there is a very large range of bottled beer, especially Belgium beers as Chimay, Delirium (You can't miss it) or Kriek.
The prices of the dishes are OK, and the portions are fine.
I'll recommend you the Burgers : it's a safe bet.
Enjoy
Strongroom's is to me one of the finest bars in the Shoreditch area. Located on the famous Curtain Road, this place has everything one needs. Here goes: good choice of beer, a lot of seating both upstairs and downstairs, a very large outside court populated with large tables (more seating), outside heating, a gig in its underground room every different night, a vibrant young clientele, a decent choice of food, varied/original music choices, nice barmen, etc. To summarise this all, Strongroom's is the ideal place for any kind of night. One can come to dance, drink or chat in a small or large group of people, this is truly the signature of any great place. Finally a last positive with Strongroom's is that is doesn't try to be more than it is, a pub in shoreditch. The atmosphere and interior design is relaxed and underplayed which I personally respect a lot.
My advice: a great start to any night in Shoreditch!
Enjoy!
Whether by accident or design, I tend to end up at Strongroom a lot. If you can negotiate your way past the unnecessarily surly security guards at the entrance to the mews, you're in for a fun, informal night. The drinks are reasonable, although I seem to follow a jager-bomb only rule when I'm here so can't really comment on the others. The bar staff are really friendly and always up for a chat and a laugh. Downstairs, the dance floor kicks off with classic tunes, but it's small enough to be able to relocate your mates if you lose them. Beware of the stairs inside, they get ridiculously slippery and I've seen several people, including myself, stack it!
This is a really cool place to go out and enjoy the whole evening with friends. The Strongroom has got two floors, with a dance floor downstairs in the evenings and upstairs has tables to eat or armchairs and sofas to chill out in. The bar is just off the main street (Curtain road) and so has a massive outside area with extra seating.
The atmosphere tends to be really good here. It's open until 3am so the places offers a proper night out that's an hour longer than the other places in the area! They often put on music events with live acts. On weekends there's also more chilled out live music on during the day. I went there once when people were invited to come on stage and perform which was very entertaining.
As regards to food and drink, I can only recall having jaeger bombs in here on each occasion I've been (quite a few now) but arguably that's all you need on a weekend night!
Only negative point: the speakers are rubbish!
And to finish on a high note, the bar staff are really friendly.
This is one of those places you thank your luck you decided to go inside and try the food! :)) They do not have a big menu, but there certainly is something for you!
knowing you're eating in the restaurant of Strongroom studio may mean a lot to you! The bar/restaurant also shares the cool atmosphere of Shoreditch and has some nice paintings and writings on the walls. You can choose to seat on ordinary tables with chairs or a coach!
You can get bread and olive oil or a great nut portion to wait your food get ready! Talking to friends and having these over a glass of wine or even tea is nice!
They serve soup of the day and it comes with good bread - more the French style - and it is a really good portion of soup! If you are medium hungry you can have it as a main course. The salads and handcut chips are delicious and well prepared! A couple of friends tried the Char Grilled Classic Beef and were crazy about them! In fact, they were tasty! The portions are good!
There is a good range of drinks!
Desserts? Sorry, guys! Did not try any yet!
The Bar & Kitchen of Strongroom recording studios is really worth a stop.
This vast pub is a fantastic place to go out with friends. Two big floors & a huge beer garden to welcome everybody. A great deal of events take place such as live music, or specific events nights, including all sorts of music tastes (reggae, soul, rock etc) therefore that accommodate to everyone's ears.
I never had food at this place, so will not be able to tell you how it is. However, very nice staff, wide range of drinks to offer & great atmosphere which makes it a very friendly place.
If you are looking to have fun, to dance, to drink but also to discuss calmly, Strongroom will definitely give you these choices. Its late licence (3AM) enables you to have a proper night out considering places in Shoreditch usually closes early.
Love the place, incredible setting and really friendly team with a huge stack of drink options, awesome music and a properly astounding venue and style, will be coming back indefinitely!
Food menu looked good but we didn't eat here so couldn't review it. Similarly, it was early and we were first in so no atmosphere. Barmaid was lovely and craft beer good.
The bar and patio area look really nice. The variety of beers is good. They advertise with great meal deals, also on the menu. However it is not possible to order them via their mandatory ordering app. Also the internet is pretty poor in the patio. This makes ordering very difficult via an app. The staff only picked up glasses.
In Shoreditch this bar and music venue seems very popular, I went mid week and before entering was politely asked if I had a booking or was a walk in. I was going to a concert so no problems but suspect it might be prudent to book ahead if you are specially travelling. There is a very large outside area with plenty of seating together with an outside bar, however there were a number of potholes that really should be attended too.
Many people were eating which suggests the food offering is good. Indoors there is more than one floor with an upstairs bar plus the music room is on the ground floor. Plenty of steps so not sure about disabled facilities so best to ask.
The music room was nice with it's own bar and loos plus the sound was good and it had reasonable lighting.
Overall a nice place with pricing typical of the area.
This is a great place to hang out. Lots of outdoor seating (with heaters) and outdoor bar. And great space indoors for entertainment space. It does feel a bit student-y so not the place if you want a finer experience but it's such a great relaxed atmosphere.
Wow… what a place, stumbled upon this little alleyway and found a gem…. Great selection of drinks, and a great atmosphere.. like stepping back in time, and loved seeing all the old bikes! Well worth a visit…..
We held our 9th DUSKWAVES event - live synth and electronic music - at Strongroom in October 2023.
A great venue for this and a brilliant time had by all of the artists and attendees.

One of ,if not, the most unique and welcoming venue&bar in London ! Not only for the excellence of their crew but also for the exemplary ambition they’ve been holding as Mantra to keep live music and the entirety of creative culture supported ! There’s no way you’re time at strongroom is wasted, the craft beer energy lives within there walls as much as the very essence of the London experience !
Ps: that supervisor with the curly hair is gorgeous xx
Really lively in the evenings! We went on a Wednesday night after work and it was packed, a great atmosphere but this did mean pretty heavy queues at the bars and a long wait for food. However the staff were brilliant and kept everyone smiling, food and drink are reasonably priced for London, will definitely be back!
Didn't eat but went to see some bands, small gig space so is close n personal to the bands , loved it .
