After an intense day of unpacking, furniture assembling, house organizing and cleaning, had a crave for some nice take away. We had a pattie and a large meal for two, paid £8.5. The mutton curry meal was really savoury, heavy portion, well cooked, spicy and quite hot but with great flavour. But the pattie... really hit all the right spots. Amazing pastry, delicious filling, regretted not having another to follow up with. Highly recommended take away place, will definitely go back.
Good traditional West Indian Take away better than any other takeaway of it type I've been too and I grew up in Willesden. I can't understand the lowish votes with 79%. Maybe the Oxtail with rice and peas (@£6.50 for a large portion with salad included) is their best dish? I say this as that's my standard order. The patties are also good and service is fast for a Caribbean takeaway (despite the queues) and the staff are nice too. It's not a sit down restaurant so comparing it to a full blown restaurant I don't think is fair. You pay your money and takes your choise.
When I think of patties, I think of Peppers and Spice. The two words are almost synonymous.
They have quite a menu. From the well known curry goat to festivals. However I have never tried their meals. When I venture there, a patty I must get. I usually get the vegetable or callaloo filling. They also sell chicken, beef and salt fish patties. The pastry so flaky and flavourful.. Mmmm.
Be prepared to meet a long queue if you come at the wrong time.
I bought two vegetable patties and one portion of plantain and it totalled to £4.30 (not actually sure how much they are,,.)
Well if you are ever in Dalston in fact even if you are not, this place is definitely worth a visit. It’s literally one of the best and most authentic Caribbean takeaway you will ever find.
This place used to be on the main road but for whatever reason it moved onto balls pond road just by the junction. I can’t tell you enough how good the food is. It’s one of the few takeaways that you will be standing in the queue in the street on a daily basis alongside every type of race of people who simply just want the food.
On this visit I bought a fried dumpling and fried fish along with three patties. One vegetarian, one salt fish, and one chicken. No words needed on the quality I’ve literally been buying food from these people for over twenty years and it only gets better. The staff are always rushed off their feet never a moment to chat because the customers are endless. On this visit I just stood outside and looked at the verify of people who waited in line for their turn. From a middle aged Caribbean man to a teenager with her mother and then a young English guy alongside a middle aged English guy to a construction worker. Truly amazing to see the appeal. I really recommend this place for the quality of food and the speed of service and most of all the value for money.
The chicken stew was so good, piping hot and chicken soft and not dry. Rice and peas so good! Loved the pineapple punch, wished I had ordered a bigger one. Price was good for the portions and quality of food. Staff friendly, accommodating and kind. Highly recommend!
I never put on reviews , but that place the food was excellent! Got some shrimp rice saffron , curry chicken which taste exactly like my grandma use to make , fall off the bones even my grandma with no teeth can eat that as tender at it was!
Potato salad was very good bring me back to my island vibe
The portion was very good after finishing that meal i could just lay down and have a nap around the field , i dont think you can walk much after such a meal it deserve its own nap time.
The patties aswell was very good specially the saltfish patty.
No matter what. people got to try this place if you looking for some good food experience and satisfy your soul , no matter your skin color or so, their food is just sharing love and taste
One love ! 🍀
The most amazing Jamaican food I've had in the UK this far.
The space is small so only to purchase, not able to dine but the staff I've interacted with were quite pleasant. Again, the most amazing food. Definitely worth the visit.
Good food, popular and gets busy at lunch time.
Menu meal choices are limited the later you visit towards closing...
I've grown up eating their tasty Beef patties and crumbs
Auntie done sort me out with some utterly unctuous curry mutton, rice and peas, and plantains. Everything was delicious and I was stuffed to the gills, my stomach was full but my hands kept going back for more.
Place is crowded, everyone is getting food for themselves and their friends and family.
Food was well flavoured, portion sizes where very good however too many bones in the curried chicken was off-putting for me. However the food was really tasty. Definitely recommend the patties. Good cheap eat
This was a beautiful lunch! We seriously enjoyed the food and as always, both aunties were delightful in serving the food to happy customers. Highly, highly recommended!
I recently went to Jamaica, and I have to say the patties at Peppers and Spice are truly authentic, and the callallo pattie is surprisingly scrumptious. You do not have to travel to Jamaica for the real thing! I did not try anything else but but the patties were worth the journey. Also. I had 3 patties for under £10. It is a take away, so the atmosphere is not much to speak of. However, it is clean and presentable, and the staff are respectful. Sadly, it can be easily missed due to its location.
Highly recommend! Food is great and the fish and vegetarian dishes are delicious. This has become my spot for any caribbean food. The women inside the restuarant work hard and is reflected in the taste of the food, and care given when serving.
