The food in this restaurant is consistently excellent. Flavours are complex, intense and well balanced. Food is clearly freshly prepared to order and it's totally worth the short wait as good things come to those who wait ;)
We also love the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Staff is always friendly and attentive.

Really nice, hospitable, generous lady seems to run the place. I was there for a takeaway, she gave me something to eat from the Iftar buffet while waiting for my takeaway and insisted I waited at a table even as customers came in for the buffet. The food is freshly made so can take a while but it's worth the wait. Some mains are a little expensive but much of the menu is cheaper than neighbouring restaurants. I wish the food was more spicy but I'll ask for more chili next time.

I love the food here. I find the variety of the menu brilliant. I love their samosas in particular. Their are very few Indian restaurants in London that serve authentic Indian food, so you must try this place.
I have to agree with one of the reviewers about the food not being good if you get a take away. They take long to deliver. I am giving this place a high rating based on my experience when I have eaten in. The naan bread is the best I have ever had. I do not advise you to get a take away, but go their in person and experience some good authentic Pakistani food.

Me and my friends visited this restaurant a couple nights ago and we were greeted by lovely, warm customer service and a wide variety of options to choose from. The chicken jalfrezi and lamb biriyani were succulent and full of flavour, especially with the fresh garlic naan. I really recommend this place!!
MAZHER LATIF
Unique taste of everything not bulky oily food and much more tasty than other desi restaurants

The lady waitress was exceptionally helpful and friendly. The premises are clean and the food is excellent. We come to Tooting a lot to eat but have never tried this place. Glad we did because it's a new favourite. Updated.... watch the chap who minds the till because they don't provide an itemized bill and he has a habit of overcharging !

I have just read the previous review and can not figure out what this man is talking about. I feel he must have a personal vendetta against this place. My wife and children will not eat anywhere else in tooting apart from this place. Their food is fresh even for a kebab roll the naan and kebabs are made fresh in front of you. Their fish can not be matched by anyone on the high street!!!!!!!!
Well done Al Mirage I will always be back with all my family and friends

PROS:
Food was great and if you are looking for good pakistani taste this is the place. Not over priced and service is quick and friendly.
CONS:
Parking is a problem here. Plus staff needs to do better job on cleaning before asking guests to sit. I had to go get staff to get tables clean again.

An excellent place to eat in Tooting. The food is well prepared, very tasty and there are many dishes to choose from. The "Auntie" who takes your order is very welcoming and adds to the enjoyment of visiting. One small piece of advice that I would give is to turn down the volume on the wall mounted TV, with all due respect it is not what everyone wants to hear.

CURRYBOND
CURRYBOND #8

The anticipation of the new and improved Bond leg has clearly inspired the CURRYBONDers, we arrive at the agreed earlier kick off to not one but three CURRYBONDers raring to go! The Spring sunshine might have also had something to do with escaping the office on time! Looks like we're odds on for our first daylight curry finish.

Our venue for CURRYBOND #8 Al Mirage. Another excellent location at the heart of Tooting High Street, it also sits next door to the more established Mirch Masala of CURRYBOND #4, we'll see how it fares against it's local rival. The early start time doesn’t seem to favour the rest of the Tooting curry masses with unadulterated access to every table in the restaurant...The venue is split over two levels and we're treated to the most elaborate of vertical ascension options with both a spiral staircase and a lift! Now they just need enough patrons to make use of them…

Al Mirage gets a venue score of 4.7/10.

A third of the way in, it seems we should evaluate the front runners for the most prestigious CURRYBOND award for Best Attendance. With a 100% record of 8 full CURRYBONDs is Jobbers, though hot on his heels comes Shethers at 7.5 CURRYBONDs but is the crown beginning to slip, the official start time comes and goes, it seems TFL has betrayed Jobbers...he makes it before the mains to maintain his 100% record but with imminent trips half way around the world will he hold on?

We promptly get ordering, a quick glance a the drinks menu disappoints some CURRYBONDers, no alcohol and no BYOB policy, it's our first "dry" curry, thankfully we'll be in a pub in a couple of hours...So it's mango lassies and soft drinks all round, fortunately the mango lassie is delicious, rich and creamy with plenty of tropical cheer. Next up come the starters, Popadoms (obviously), Samosas, Chicken Spring Rolls, Dahi Bhale and Onion Bhajis. They are pretty much all delicious, the Bhajis are a highlight with another entry in the crustacean style, this example is equally crispy, spicy and importantly freshly cooked.
Certainly a contender for best Bhaji, they get a score of 9/10.

The Dahi Bhale, is a curiosity. Ordered by Gills always keen to try new things her face was one of trepidation when what looks like an ice cream sundae arrives at the table. Fortunately it is a savoury affair, consisting predominantly of yoghurt with a dumplingy thing with some kind of tamarind sauce. The consensus is interesting, but once is enough.

Jobbers makes his entrance just in time to order the obligatory Chicken Jalfrezi, this was accompanied by Lamb Peshwari Gosht, Lamb Bhuna, Butter Chicken, Tikka Lamb Chops and the standard Chicken Tikka Masala. Sides of pilau rice, garlic naan and our second CURRYBOND cheese naan, which is clearly the highlight for one NE based CURRYBONDer...The mains all look good, sizeable portions, vibrant colours and fragrant aromas. The Peshwari Gosht is spicy and moorish with tender chunks of lamb. The CTM has juicy chicken pieces and is certainly tasty but not the best reference CTM we've had. Overall there are positive murmurings all around the table. The consensus is, delicious, the scores are high.

Al Mirage get a food score of 8.1/10.

So with Roger Moore calling we ask for the bill which comes in at £78.60 that’s just £9.83/CURRYBONDer breaking the £10 barrier is impressive.

Al Mirage gets a Value score of 8.1/10

So with only the venues lack of patrons and a no alcohol policy holding it back Al Mirage is an unexpected contender for best Curry, it's neighbours should take note.

Al Mirage gets an Overall score of 7.7/10.

Tremendous is the one word I would use to sum up our experience with Miraj Indian Resturant in Tooting. I loved the food. Their best and mouth-watering dishes were ‘Chicken Balti’ and ‘Chicken Tikka Masala’ extremely appealing and delicious. They don’t officially allow alcohol but I guess you can take it in a coke bottle without being noticed (just don’t get too drunk to be noticed, lol) or avoid alcohol to feel the true taste. The service was kind and attentive. I would certainly recommend Miraj Restaurant to anyone looking for a feast out, for a true taste of India.

Al Mirage is housed in an almost glamourous, chandelier-lit glass building on Upper Tooting Road and, opening the door, I was embraced by the meaty warmth of the grill and the noise from a giant screen showing cricket

Outstanding food, best in tooting by FAR. Everytime I visit tooting with friends or family Al Mirage goes without saying, on a couple occasions I have tried other curry houses such as spice village and Lahore Kahari, but ended up very disappointed, a must try is the mixed grill which comes sizzling hot and smoking, always goes down a treat. I think it's a family run business and the staff are always polite and service is spot on, so if your looking for a good curry house then look no further I have pointed you in the right direction. Also try the lamb Kahari, you can choose how spicy or mild you want it which is always good as my kids also enjoy their meal.

Well done! And keep up the good work, don't bother with spice village your wasting your time and money, Lahore Kahari was ok but too much noise and alcohol for the family atmosphere.

Sajid. Al Mirage was recommended to me by my friends from "Uni" who live in the tooting area. I decided to here with my family. We were met with a curtious waiter and sat down. We saw another table being served with a mixed grill and hot naans which smelt soooo good so we ordered the same. The mixed grill came smoking on a platter and was a pleasure to eat. We then ordered the pahari ghosht (lamb on the bone) mixed veg, peshwari ghosht and mango lassi's.
The whole meal fantastic and a really good atmosphere in the restaurant. Since then I go there every week. You must try it there believe me you will get addicted !!!!!!!!!!!

Very nice, great atmosphere, amazing fish dish!. We went here a couple of weeks ago and had a really good time. The restaurant was quite full and had the kind of atmosphere you that makes eating out so enjoyable.

The food was very tasty as well. The vegetables in the curry were well-cooked, not at all overdone or mushy as you get in other places. The lamb kebab had good flavour without the typical generic "asian" flavour you come to expect after having lamb kebab at a few different places.

A special mention for the fish. I don't remember the name of the dish but it was basically a nice big piece of fish with a delicious crust - it wasn't breaded like deep fried fish, it was just a delicate crunch around the fish. I think it may have just been a spice crust. The spices were very nicely balanced and unique.

All in all a nice dinner out, good friendly service, no complaints.

Rubbish Food too expensive. Food was rubbish, cold and too expensive. Not worth a penny. Service was equally bad.. Won't recomment to anyone... Try Dawat on the same road... much better and very good value for money...We went for a buffet meal for £7.99 per person with our 22 months old daughter. When we asked for the bill we were surprised to see that we was charged £4.99 for our daughter who only ate 2 chips. I asked the waiter and he rudely replied that this charge is not for the food but for the chair they have provided....what a stupid answer.... I will never go there again as where ever you go childrens under 2 eat free.

Get rid of the TV and all the posters on the window!. I have tried the curries at many places in Tooting and prefer Al Mirage and recommend it to everyone. I would however suggest that they get rid of the TV - it is annoying!
I know you have received the healthy eating award but please, please try and use less oil/ghee in your vegetable dishes. Dishes overflowing with oil are neither attractive nor enjoyable to eat.

The WORST curry I have ever tasted! Please read on!!!. I was unfortunate to be in hospital.. Just before my operation i knew I wanted a lamb rogan josh, onion bhaji and rice when i woke.... we'll I woke, ordered and the food, the food arrived and to say I was soooo disappointed was to say the least. The Josh was full with oil, the lamb still had lots of fat on it, the onion bhaji was soaked in oil and all in all the whole meal was AWFUL needless to say it went straight in the bin!! I'm north African and I know good food when I taste it.. (an accomplished cook myself).. Personally I would not recommend this place for a take away.. not sure what the food is like to eat in but I will not be trying it..! Now if you want a fantastic curry The Grange on Beddington lane is to die for... Real authentic indian food freshly cooked..! I think I have ranted on Al Mirage for long enough... my advice stay away!

MISS INFORMED. I have just read Lora's review and her comments about the healthy choice issue. I am part of the management at Al-Mirage and wish to clarify the points Lora has made. She obvoiusly hasn't noticed the "Heartbeat Award" given to us a couple of month's a ago from the NHS and Wandsworth Council for healthy food. If Lora wanted to eat healthy she should have selected the healthier dishes. The waiters do not work in the kitchen and preparation of the dishes and therefore do not know completely the ingredients used. The best person for Lora to have spoken to would have ben the Chef or myself. In the first three years of trading we have won the "Tiffin Cup" for Tooting's favourite restaurant voted by local residents and awarded by Sadiq Khan. Lora should also be aware that it would have been illegal for us to advertise something that wasn't true. Maybe she ought to have looked at this more clearly before putting comments like she has on the website.

Food is below average. We went there for couple of times but to be honest we are very disappointed their portions are very small and food is awfull. not reccommended at all for the curry lovers.

We decided to give Al-Mirage a chance. We had a lovely meal, with fantastic service, in very nice and clean surroundings. A table was set up for us in 2 minutes and we had a very very enjoyable night. As a party we spent a fair whack of money on a feast. Thank you again, we know NEVER to go to Lahore Karahi, and always to go to Al-Mirage!!!

Mixed grill is very good. Naan's taste awful as they use the cheap flour. The most annoying thing is they want you to sign a petition form to say they are the best curry house in Tooting, this arrives with the bill. On my second visit I stated I had signed prior to which I stated I signed already! At this point they asked me to sign again! No wonder they have won this award so many times! What a joke none of the other restaurants in the area force you to sign! A joke at best with attitude to match.

Best in Tooting. Most unusually for a curry restaurant in Tooting, the staff here are friendly and very ready to make suggestions from their excellent menu. That, and the excellent food, make this my curry restaurant of choice. Definitely try the fish - and listen to the waiter (I haven't been steered wrong yet).

Whilst most locals will be familiar with the virtues of Mirch Masala, I’m not certain the same can be said of its neighbour Al Mirage. However, one could be forgiven for assuming Al Mirage was the more famed of the two, given its more prominent position on the corner of Kellino Street and its more eye catching frontage. With glass walls and brightly lit interior it has a more welcoming feel than its rather understated rival next door. However, when seeing its palm tree logo and shabby chic exterior I can’t help but compare it to something out of Lego’s Paradisa range. Inside, a spiral staircase completes this allusion, as does the somewhat low budget, faux brickwork that fills two circular wall alcoves.

What we like at Al Mirage is the modern, clean style. You have room between tables, something that cannot be said for most restaurants we’ve tried in this location. The staff are friendly and efficient too

Al Mirage: A curry haze

Many times I’ve passed Al Mirage and questioned whether my eyes deceived me or not – how could any curry house try and upstage Mirch Masala at such close proximity? Nevertheless, this restaurant really does exist right next door and, as such, has to be counted in its own right.

Like two nomads, we wandered towards Al Mirage in search of another curry oasis. Here’s what we found...

Venue
Whilst most locals will be familiar with the virtues of Mirch Masala, I’m not certain the same can be said of its neighbour Al Mirage. However, when seeing its palm tree logo and shabby chic exterior I can’t help but compare it to something out of Lego’s Paradisa range. Inside, a spiral staircase completes this allusion, as does the somewhat low budget, faux brickwork that fills two circular wall alcoves.

Recent refurbishments have been made, but the overall feel is one of incompleteness. The cut away first floor, staircase and overall space suggests Al Mirage has potential, but an idle fridge (more on this later) situated in the dining area sums up the haphazard layout and seemingly unfinished interior design.

The local scene is hardly awash with seven-star, Abu Dhabi-style lavishing, but Al Mirage doesn’t seem to be taking advantage of its assets. This can be summed up by empty tables, while punters queue next door. 5/10 for venue.

Starters and sides
Grilled masala fish
Roghni naan
Peshwari naan
Feeling a bit worse for wear, we took it easy on the starters and shared a grilled masala fish that came with cucumber and lettuce. Not the highest marks for presentation, and the coating looked a little over done, but generally the fish was tasty, with a nice kick to it.
No rice on this occasion, but the naans were ample. Both were decent with a fluffy and buttery texture, but this wasn’t consistent throughout.
Without much to go on, we’ll be generous with a 7 out of 10.

Curry
Tropical chicken balti
Lamb peshwari gosht
Sticking with our policy of choosing the most interestingly named items on the menu we went for the tropical chicken balti that lived up to its fruity name with a lovely tangy taste.
The peshwari gosht had a strong tomato richness and the lamb was just the right side of fatty, retaining its taste without being too gristly.
All in all, these were two strong performers with more texture that other creamier dishes on the high street. 7/10.

Staff
The staff ratings got off to a good start with a friendly hello upon entry, but the waiter did his best to undermine this positive first impression by giving condescending responses to our questions. After asking us how hot we’d like our dishes, he almost sniggered at our response of ‘medium’ as if we were a couple of amateurs. He then proceeded to bang my chair with the fridge door when he opened it to get our drinks out. A simple 'excuse me' would have sufficed, or better still don’t put the fridge there in the bloody first place! Luckily a friendly chat with another colleague redeemed the score a little, and Tom noticed that there was severe crossover between waiting and cooking suggesting a multi-talented workforce. However, we can’t be sure this wasn’t just disorganisation and the benefit of the doubt was lost when my chair got banged for a second time. He also attempted to clear my plate half way through the meal. 5/10.

Value for money
Al Mirage is a dry restaurant and not BYO so a point lost for VFM there, but prices are fairly standard. Nothing notable with portion size or quality so won’t get top marks, but all in all no complaints. 7/10.

Summary
With a name like Al Mirage, I was hoping to make a pun around 'seeing is believing', but it is more or less what you see is what you get. Once through the looking glass, the inside lacks character and recent updates fail to leave you impressed. The waiting staff are a mixed bunch and there isn't the buzz of next door. Shame because I'm a big fan of Lego Paradisa. 32/50.
