Reviews The Herne

Grumbling Gourmet
+4.5
The Herne, or the East Dulwich Crèche as it is known locally, is another of those slightly grotty South East London pubs that's been tarted to an inch of its grubby (read authentic) life.

Great staff, tasty food. Portion sizes (not a lot of chicken in the chicken burger, not overly generous with my chips!) were a bit small, but we still enjoyed it. Lovely garden.

Came here for a cheeky lil Sunday pint after a nice walk. Lovely atmosphere, with a fire and very family friendly. Didnt try food but the pub was cosy. Drinks were slightly overpriced but I guess usual for London!

We went on a Tuesday evening and it was like stepping into a pub from a Bill Bryson book. There was even an Irish band rehearsing songs on the fiddle. We weren't able to sample the food as the kitchen was closed, and although you can order Yard Sale Pizza there the barmen let us go and grab some chips from the chippy up the road. Wish more pubs were that chilled. Highly recommend a visit, the garden outside looked amazing too and would be perfect for a drink in any weather as it's covered...

Nice pub, good staff. Don't do their own food but you can get yard sale pizza ordered in. Massive beer garden too

What a lovely little gem. Yet to try the good. The kitchen is not up and running yet they allow patrons to order in food until the kitchen is operating.

Huge beer garden and a nice selection of beers - prices not horrendous and fully in line with similar pubs in the area.
