Outstanding fish and chips!. Visiting London and wanted to get some decent fish and chips. Our friend suggested this tiny chippy in outer Earlsfield. It was that, or a posh place in Battersea which does upmarket fish and chips for twice the price. Hmm, which to go for? We opted for Earlsfield as we wanted the more traditional chip shop.
Sea Horse is small and looks like a thousand other chip shops, but they really know what they are doing. The chips are peeled and cut on site and are fantastic. Big and crispy brown, but with a moist and juicy inside. This is down to the frying and the potato they use, but mostly that it's all done fresh and on site. As far as chip shop chips, this is as good as it gets. That is, unless you really need the soggy, soft chip you so often get. That has it's place, but this is a far superior chip, in my view.
So the fish. There was none sitting in the warming window as they fry it fresh to order. Takes time, but worth it. We all had cod, but they do Skate and Haddock as well. The batter was crisp, light and nicely browned. Not too greasy as well. The fish inside was perfectly cooked and a lovely flakey quality. So often you get cod overdone and it feels more like mush. This was done perfectly.
They serve it in a box, much like a small pizza box, and this helps keep it crispier than wrapping it in paper. Nice thought and it works. Also a lot easier to eat from if you are on the go.
Like I said at the start, this place looks like a thousand other chip shops, but they do their cooking with care and passion. At the price, it's a great deal for this kind of quality. I was chatting with the owner while I waited, a lovely Turkish man. His wife and sons work there. Really nice family. I'm typing this on my flight back to Vancouver. I know where I'm going for fish and chips on my next London visit.
WOW!. Wow! Went to Seahorse Fish Bar for the first time tonight, even though I've been living in Tooting for a few years. What an amazing fish and chip shop. Really friendly welcome from the owner and others working behind the fryers and in the kitchen. Lots of other customers there too which is always a good sign. Focus clearly on traditional fish and chip shop fare. The fish was being cooked to order, and served straight from the fryer - as it should be - and had some of the best, crispy batter I have had for ages. And always worth waiting for delicious tasty fresh fish and chips. Very generous portions too. Having grown up on the Devon coast and been spoilt for choice between some great chippys, I can sometimes be quite scathing about fish and chips in London. But this place was the real deal. Excellent in every way. I will definitely be coming back!
The best fish and chip shop by a mile! Always mine and my family’s go too. The fish is super fresh and crisp and the chips are perfectly chunky and fluffy. Not to mention the service! The young lady who serves me is an absolute sweetheart - always welcomes customers with a smile. I’ll be back soon 😉

The owners are very friendly and happy to strike up conversation making you feel welcome.
Interior of the shop is kept clean and they even have a toilet for customers and a TV to keep you entertained while they cook your order fresh.
Great selection of food and offers at lunchtimes.
They even do some deep fried chocolate bars - which are a great treat once in a while.
Cash only business is the only let down but with a cash machine just up the road it's not a problem.
Best fish (large rock) and chips we have had in ages, making it a regular takeaway from now on. Staff are lovely and friendly too and don't mind a short wait. while they cook everything for us, we will preorder from now on. Definitely give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

I was working in the area, so I only popped in for a bag of chips, but then decided to order cod and chips to eat in. It’s the best fish and chips that I have had in decades.
Went in at 1pm today 26/05/2022 & had takeaway lunch time fish & chips at £6.50, the tastiest fish & chis I have eaten for a long while & plenty of it. I was made to feel like a valued customer by the staff .
Fresh fish, proper chips, great prices and very very tasty, the couple and their daughter who run this place are very friendly, id say this is probably one of the best 5 fish and chip shops in London,

Was on my way back from covering the Wimbledon vs Wycombe game on Easter Monday and fancied a bite to eat before catching the train home. Stumbled upon the Sea Horse Fish Bar and not only were they quick, they were incredibly polite and we ended up having a nice chat. Highly recommended.
