Had a smashing time at this wonderful pub tucked away in Balham on a Sunday. The grove has a great atmosphere and happy staff ready to assist in anyway possible. The roast however was the highlight of my trip the roast chicken was cooked to perfection and very flavourful. Also big thanks to the management for being so efficient and helpful. Truly had a wonderful time. 😁😁😁
Would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a lovely meal with great service.

We have spent quite a bit of time at the Grove over the BH weekend whilst visiting family in Balham and on Saturday we held a party there for my daughters 21st birthday. We’ve really enjoyed spending time there, the atmosphere is chilled and the staff very friendly, particularly the gorgeous lads from the north-east!
It’s a modern, quirky pub with plenty of space. It’s just off the main road in Balham so doesn’t have the queues at the bar that some of the high st pubs have. We were given a lovely area to decorate and spend time with everyone who came to the party. Got to say the food was just amazing, it appealed to everyone and everyone commented what a fantastic buffet they supplied. They do a normal menu too which looked very nice.
Thank you for making us feel so welcome (dog friendly too) we had the best party. Looking forward to coming back again soon!

Really enjoyable evening at this lovely, relaxed pub. The main reason is down to the excellent service - every person behind the bar and in the kitchen is friendly, helpful, and will go out of their way to help you. I asked for drinks off the menu and they were impeccable in their response and in delivering the finished products, as well as being reasonably priced. Really lovely feel to this pub and we'll definitely come again. Thank you for making us feel welcomd! xx

Beautiful location with outdoor eating options, great starters (including their salmon spread and soup of the day (potato and corn)). Also great range of mains.

The Grove, one of Balham's little secrets, is a brilliant place to chill with beer in hand. A beautiful pub tucked away on Oldridge road. Super staff, a delightful building and great beer. All you can hope for! Very comfy sofas too!

Beautiful cozy bar tucked away in the heart of Balham. Came for the pub quiz that they do on a Thursday night and it was one the most fun quizzes I've done. Lovely Atmosphere and all the bar staff were great vibes!

Really pretty pub inside, light and airy with skylight and well decorated. A pleasure

One of the best roasts we’ve ever had in a lovely British pub. The food was beautifully presented, delicious and a great range of options that caters for vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Wonderful vibe and great decor. Will definitely recommend!

Alastair who served us was great perfect balance of leaving us to chat but also check in occasionally. Allergy menu easy to use, Really relaxed nice experience, 👌

Lovely looking pub and lovely staff.
Thanks for being so friendly and if the guys on the bar from today (21st June) see this, sorry I didn't come back to chat again I was super busy and had to head off.

Recently had lunch here and it's just the same as it was when I lived in the area some 15 years ago, which is to say it's great! Such a lovely pub off the main road. Great food and beer selection, convenient parking in front of the pub towards Balham (metered) or behind (possibly free if you can find a space).

Great pub with very friendly staff and good food - the chicken pie is superb and the quality of the starters was surprisingly high.
Felt as though the staff went out of their way to help - would very much recommend.

One of the better burgers I've had in London. Pub quiz was very fun too! Great atmosphere

Had a wonderful experience at the Grove on a Saturday day time where I held a private event. Team were super helpful prior with great communication and pre orders. Lovely space and beautiful pub. Thank you for helping make the day so calm and stress free.

So this pub is a lovely place in itself, and the staff are always very welcoming whenever I've been. We live nearby, and bring our dog who is always also welcomed warm-heartedly.
Unfortunately the downside came when eating. We had booked a table for 4 and ordered 2 courses for dinner. There were a fair few free tables, so I wouldn't have called it a particularly busy night for an appropriately staffed kitchen. We each ordered cold starters which hadn't arrived 55 minutes later. At 45 minutes, I flagged this up, and an apology was offered. As we hit the nearly 1 hour mark, for a cold meat platter, terrines, and a cold crab dish I asked them to 'reflect the wait in the price' and they agreed to take it off the bill completely. Unfortunately the crab was VERY odd tasting, and was sent back with the staff then telling me the chef had tried it and there was indeed something 'not quite right'. The other starters were fine. Main course then took about 20 minutes (which is passable) but other than the steak, which was lovely, was very underwhelming, and one dish (sausages and mash - unfortunately ordered by the same person who ordered the crab starter) was dry and rubbery.
The manager said the kitchen only had the one chef and a new staffer kitchen porter, and this was the reasons for both the wait, and the issues with the food. I accept that may impact it, but the kitchen shouldn't really be in that position for a Friday evening service, so it has caused us to reconsider another visit, particularly if eating.
It pains me a bit that this was our experience, because they actually dealt with our concerns with grace and professionalism, and they're a lovely bunch of staff there, but the experience in itself wasn't great, and we left feeling gutted at our dining experience with friends.
Will certainly pop in for a drink and bar snack again, but not to eat. There are too many other good choices in the area, and they might need to tackle the slow service and food/kitchen staff issues if they want to compete with the plethora of great pubs nearby.
They do do a cracking burger though, with peanut butter - it's worth an order.

This is a fab neighbourhood pub with good food and excellent service. Good atmosphere for sports events (not too laddish or raucous, just fun) and nice if you have kids or dogs in the party too. It’s worth booking if there are a few of you

Recently redecorated to a much nicer standard and nice staff but full of families with young children. The burger is always excellent and my boyfriend and I used to go pretty frequently as we live across the road. They have put their prices up recently too - £6 for a single vodka soda and £5.85 for a pint of beer. Sadly don’t think we will be coming back any more which is a shame because the food is good. But we’re definitely not keen on screaming kids on a Friday night after a long week at work. Sorry Grove - ditch the kids and charge reasonable prices and we will be back in a shot.

Seems to have gone downhill in the last 6-8 months. I don't know if this is a change of management and/or chef but it's not the same as it used to be. I live local so come in from time to time. In my past few visits the dining room area never seems to be open (albeit I usually come on weekdays, but it used to be open on these days), and in my last two visits there have been items unavailable from a seemingly new menu, on one occasion, two dessert options I selected were not available.

Despite eating our own body weight in turkey yesterday (and being seriously "over cheesed") we thought that a Grove roast was the perfect way to celebrate Boxing Day. We weren't disappointed - delicious and substantial roast chicken with all the trimmings, and a nice atmosphere in the pub. The reason for only 3 stars? We ordered dessert and had to chase it up after 40 minutes. To be fair, at that point we were offered it for free if we still wanted it. We were still waiting for it 15 minutes later, and had gone off the idea by then. There wasn't any real apology or acknowledgement of the best part of an hour's wait in a pub that wasn't crowded. I'm a big fan of the Grove so it was a disappointing end to a nice lunch :-(

I like this pub, it’s does a good roast dinner and has a good atmosphere. Great place to take the dogs and and family guests 😊

We were there for lunch today with another family to try their kids table for the first time. The kids table adult supervision was disappointing. Add to that was terrible service by the Grove. It took them 45 minutes to serve the children's food/starters and over an hour to serve the mains for the adults and never once apologised or told us why there was a delay. I asked for a discount when we got the bill and the guy said, I'll see what I can do. Still not acknowledging that they had failed to give decent service. He half heartedly apologised while taking our money off us with 20% off the bill but we would not come back here again.

Will maybe give a 5* after i eat here as its a lovely pub - cosy not noisey and a real fire

Just been on Easter Sunday evening. There was no roast lamb, no roast pork and roast potatoes were not hot. Childs meal was not ordered so arrived very late. Not a good night at The Grove.

Slow service, ok food. Could do worse, but could find a lot better.

After my Christmas dinner yesterday, I thought it would be next year before I would be able to cope with another roast meal. Turns out I was (happily) mistaken!
Excellent food, lovely atmosphere, and friendly staff - what more can you ask for?
Mulled cider? Sorted
Desserts? Sorted
Open fire? Sorted
Oh, and they look to be having an 80s night for New Year. I can't make it because of work, but looking forward to the pictures.

Very nice local with a friendly vibe after a good refurb. Good for a Sunday roast with friends. Dog and children welcome within reason.

Went in for dinner with my wife and picked a table. There was a staff member taking the order from nearby group and afterwards he proceeded to competently ignore us. Tried to call his attention several times to no avail.
After fetching the menu from the bartender I found it to be very different from the one posted here, I wanted to ask about it, but was still being ignored. Left angrier than hungry, which is saying something as I was starving when I got in.
Shame Zomato doesn't let me rate as 0, so 1 rating will have to do.
It's not all bad, ended up in a great Turkish restaurant instead, which in a way is thank to the Grove awful staff.

Fantastic for Sunday roasts.

This is a great big handsome pub hidden down Balham's residential roads. Great for big groups of people that need feeding or watering.

The friendly staff took our order and delivered some rather scrummy looking roasts for the rest of the group whilst I had a mouthwatering veggie choice of leek and cheese bread and butter pudding (yes, I too was thinking 'what madness is this?!') well, it tasted divine. I could have it again tomorrow and the day after and the day after that. It was so light, very moreish but filled a hole at the same time. Only sad side was that they sent just carrots and cabbage rather than the butternut squash side as promised.

Special mention for the sexy desserts that put such a big dilemma in my head, very happy with my warm brownie with peanut butter panna cotta and salted caramel ice cream. But still acquired food envy at the sight of the steamy sticky toffee pud with butterscotch sauce and honeycomb. Have to go back just for that.

Reasonably priced and great atmosphere, we'll be back!

Beautifully decorated pub in Balham and surprisingly quiet - a real hidden gem. We enjoyed a lovely drink here on the outside terrace and will definitely be back for food inside, the menu looks great!

This is a lovely pub tucked away just off the main road from Clapham South to Balham. As a result it isn't as busy as other pubs in the area, but still has some nice sun-trapping outdoor seating. Inside is equally light and airy with a great skylight capping a beautifully furnished interior. To top it off the Young's pub food and ales offer a great quality choice for both eating and drinking. On this occasion I chose the balham burger which controversially has peanut butter amongst the usual relishes - works for me!

Lovely meals in a gorgeous, relaxed atmosphere.

I'd happily go back to The Grove for its good selection of beers, pleasant surroundings and a genuine willingness to try other items on their menu. But for me, this burger has too much to fault it to be saved by the mere introduction of peanut butter. Sadly this story won't be heading for the top of my bestseller lists.
