So I've been frequenting this place for some time now, and every single time I have not been disappointed. From its friendly staff to its delicious food (not super cheap, but not super expensive either), The Book Club is the ideal place if you're looking to settle in for a few hours, get work done, enjoy a cold cider and have a good meal while you're at it. Yes, it gets pretty noisy and crowded once the evening after-work crowd comes in in the droves, but between 10am to 4pm is the sweet spot. Best parts of this place? The light, airy space, the great staff, the relaxed atmosphere, and the sense that you're welcomed here, even if you do stay for quite a number of hours (I tend to do that). Great place. Can't recommend it enough.

Had an absolutely delicious brunch accompanied by a fabulously spicy 🌶 Bloody Mary for the morning after!! Food was fresh, fast and staff were very friendly! Will definitely return - highly recommend- we literally stumbled on it by accident - were drawn to the Evil Art Gallery next door ... 😂👍😊 a happy accident 👍😀

The beauty about this place is not only the food (that is delicious) but also the great cocktails and the fact that at night it turns the vibe to a club and you can enjoy some music, drinks and dance!

Take the usual profile for a cafe or a breakfast bar in London, and you’ll find the embodiment of a cool, indie youngster who enjoys loud music and fitted denim shirts. This youthful spirit has become the very foundation of London’s coffee and breakfast culture, and whilst it’s still very much a part of The Book Club, the spirit here seems to be just a little more grown-up. With its vast, open space and its semi-academic feel, The Book Club is the embodiment of that same, cool, indie youngster, who now has a couple of grey hairs and a real job. The menu is certainly limited for Muslims, and even more so for vegetarians and vegans, but if you’re hoping to gear up and power through your deadlines, or wind down and completely forget about them, you can expect to do it with ease and comfort in the sociable solitude of The Book Club.

Came for their brunch and did not regret it at all. I had the huevos rancheros which was fantastic, the avacado were so fresh and the tortillas was not too greasy. My friend had the pancakes which also looked very yummy. Highly recommend this place for a chill Saturday afternoon. I need for return for the fusball and ping pong!

The Book Club is one of my favourite places in London to eat at. I only eat the vegetarian options here but what they have is all delicious. Super breakfasts and awesome brunches.

One thing however keeps me coming back time and again. It's those pancakes, they're just too damn good. TBC adjusts their plating quite a bit, likely seasonally.

Everytime I've been here the pancakes look and taste different, but everytime they're just a good as the last.

Take note all those restataunts/diners that serve up pancakes. This is how you do it. None of the flat dull look here. Stack 'em high and proud and with tasty ingredients.

Pecan praline, caramel sauce, blossom honey and berry compote. Such a yum combo.

Great layout and very edgy decor. Enjoyed mid afternoon cocktails here with a friend. We were both a little disappointed after being so excited by the intriguing drinks descriptions. Any zest or zeal alluded to in the menu was overwhelmed by the alcohol potency. Could have done with a larger serving size, complemeted rather than taken over by the alcohol. Maintain an open mind for the food. Will try and get back for brunch next time.

Shoreditch is brimming with great food spots but I had not been to The Book Club in a while and I had never actually tried the breakfast menu so Leanne, Natasha and I decided to make it our hub for discussing potential YouTube collaborations. Usually the earliest I would be seen at weekend brunch is 1pm but I discovered that our early 11.30 start has it perks and we got a table straight away instead of joining the usual queue.

As I was led to the Book Club, akin to Alice being led across Wonderland by the March Hare, there was the hope of something exciting. I didn’t know where I was going from here but it was promising not to be boring, a crazy map of various possible wonders awaiting me at the entrance (ping pong, alcohol, clubbing).

I headed to The Book Club on a Wednesday lunch time around 12. The brunch menu was still on, and as nothing else took my fancy, I ordered the Pesto Scrambled Egg on brown sourdough, with Parma ham.

From my first few bites I could tell that they obviously use fresh, good quality ingredients here. The pesto paired well with the simple flavours of the creamy scrambled egg. However the Parma ham could have been saltier, and the sourdough more...sour?! Still, I enjoyed the meal.

The Book Club offers up a reasonable menu of breakfast/brunch and lunch options. For the area, the food is averagely priced (around £8 a dish). Would I head back? Probably for lunch or a coffee.

For the party animals out there, the club nights are also pretty good.

THE BOOK CLUB--Generous Portions,Superb Service. SHOREDITCH is not often thought of as the "centre of the city!" and even in the fringes of the Square Mile itself there is the tendency to dine inwardly, but you could be missing a great eaterie within a mere few minute bus ride from Liverpool Street down to Shoreditch.(Take the 135 -it takes about 4 mins from Liverpool St) For there you will find THE BOOK CLUB, a sister operation of The Queen of Hoxton.
The Book Club is eclectic and vibrant,it has a mix of the 1940's-50's and is quite arthouse. There is a welcoming and friendly atmosphere and it seems a regular favourite of the Shoreditch crowd although that said there were a few business suits amongst the arty and design focussed patrons. The mix of customers is superb, there is at one end of the venue a ping-pong table in one section that is well used-At least three tournaments between friends took place during our meal there!(With one ping-pong ball being declared out of bounds as it darted behind my guests handbag on the seat!)
There is also the more 7pm slot at The BOOK CLUB in which music is the main focus and there are club nights,Blues Dance nights,Electro Swing and other entertainments.Check out www.wearetbc.com
The BOOK CLUB serves between 8am-12noon Breakfast and from 12-4pm Lunches. In the evenings the restaurant pretty-much becomes more music and party focussed. The BOOK CLUB serves as one would expect a wide range of beers, wines, spirits and cocktails-Some with particularly cheery and tongue-in-cheek names e.g "a Shoreditch Tw*t" appears in an extensive list!
The breakfasts look wholesome and hearty,
Porridge Oats with nuts, dried fruit and honey is a modest £4 As is Granola,Fruit platters and Buttermilk Pancakes.
The cooked range extends to various egg dishes, muffins through to a Full English Breakfast or a Full Veggie Breakfast atc £7 and £7.50 respectively.
We attended for lunch and were greeted by friendly and approachable staff who sat us by the window.
There is a great selection of hot dishes on the lunch menu, which are hot on quality but cool on the pocket!
(which in these times is always a bonus!)
We started with a delicious Brocolli and Gorgonzola Soup,(£4.50)
which was served piping hot and in keeping with the 50's theme a white enamel bowl with the blue rim.
The portion was generous and would be a meal in itself for those wanting a quick snack lunch.
This was also served with granary toast.
There is certainly some dish to suit everyone at the BOOK CLUB.
Orkney smoked macjarel filletsv with green beeans, egg and Horseradish Hollandaise comes in at a pretty good £9.50
Nut Roast about £8,Spanish Frittata at £8.50 and Spaghetti with melt-in-the-mouth Meatballs in Napoli Sauce at £8.50
We opted for the Medallions of Pork Fillet, with Saute Potatoes,Fresh Summer green vegetables with a Mustard and Honey Sauce.
At a very reasonable £9.50.
It was superb and again generous portions, three very tasty and lean pieces of Pork served upon a bed of chopped cabbage and leeks, that had a delicious sweet flavour.
The Potatoes were cooked to perefection with the sauce being a great complement to the whole dish.
Our choice of wines from quite an extensive range of Red,Whites,Rose and Sparkling was a Red.
The Berri Estates Shiraz, from SE Australia at a modest £17 a bottle.
The BOOK CLUB's wine ranges from around £15-20 for the non-sparkling selection and from £22 for sparkling.
Feeling so full by now by the superbly generous portions we passed on dessert although there is a selection of cakes and desserts
to complete the afternoon menu.
To assist all customers with dietary needs Vegan choices are marked clearly in the menu and all egg dishes are free-range.So everyone's happy-even the hens!
I recommend the BOOK CLUB to anyone to give it a try. With the very good price structure they have in place
everyone can dine out on a budget and arrive home still feeling full with the larger portions.
VERDICT:5/5 for Service,Food and Ambience.
There's no need to read from cover to cover,BOOK CLUB's generous servings are like no other!

Too cool for school? not at Book Club.... Went here for a breakfast meeting with one of them trendy Shoreditch media types... definitely the place for it. they've got a regular menu of events from poetry and philosophy to music and networking. It also appears to be quite a decent bar. Obviously it's less easy to judge that in the cold light of day...

Neat little brunch menu, the scrambled eggs were particularly fine!

I first came here one Sunday afternoon spent the afternoon and discovered they do bloody lovely Sunday Roasts. And they’re bloody huge as well. My friend and I shared one and didn’t even finish it between us. They also do ‘DIY’ bloody marys so you can make them as spicy as you like. Apparently they play blues in the downstairs bit starting from about 7 but it was 9 pm before I remembered we had wanted to see what that was like, and we were pretty comfortable where we were. I’d highly recommend it.

I've been to the Book Club for swing dancing, electro swing nights and events hosted by Scroobius Pip. It's a great bar for something different going on.

I've been here only once but I have to say I left with a good impression.
Such a cool and relaxed atmosphere this place can offer. We were a big group but lucky and unlucky in the same time the place was almost empty so we could grab a table and we had few drinks.

The reason why it was so quiet is because we went there on a Sunday and the entire area is dead. Now I know! But when I decided to go there to celebrate my birthday because I absolutely like Shoreditch I didn't know Sunday is the only night when few places are even closed and not much is going on here.
Although, they only had few clients the atmosphere was so laid back and we didn't feel rushed even though it was late.
I can't comment on the food as we only had drinks but I want to go back as I heard great things about this place.

Fantastic little breakfast spot in Shoreditch.

The space itself is a cave of white painted brick walls bedecked with interesting art and punctuated with cool open windows peering into other rooms. The ceilings are high and exposed and the floors are a rich and beautiful cherry wood.

The breakfast is fantastic! Deliciously tart and freshly squeezed orange juice. Beautiful stacks of little buttermilk pancakes, sandwiched between rows of strawberries and bananas, and jam and authentic maple syrup (some of the best I've had in London). The back bacon was crisp and salty, as it should be!

I found the service a bit odd, but I didn't really care. Buttermilk pancakes and bacon for £6.50 can't be beat!

Going to the Book Club on a Monday night left a positive impression. It was nice for a small group of us to sit and chat whilst having reasonably priced drinks. The cocktail menu is not very big but they are definitely worth trying. Paying my second visit on a Friday night impressed me a lot less. Having waited quite a long time to get in only meant waiting even longer to get a drink. The very small bar was not enough for the amount of people. Despite the awesome music there was not much place left to dance and it was too loud to socialise. Recommend visiting the Book Club on a week night.

One of thw best places to meet up with friends. The atmosphere fluctuates between laid back and bubly depending on when you go and whats going on.

The menu caters more to groups rather than individuals as they mostly do platters. It's simple either order one of the meat platters or the vegetarian one neither will disappoint.

There's drinks galore and after you've had a few drag one of your friends to the ping pong tables and challenge them to a round of drunken table tennis.

This is just my type of place, though hard to describe what "my type" entails. It has a rather relaxed setting, you order at the bar, no fuss, nothing much fancy. I do like the eclectic decor which is not getting too much simplistic at the expense of being minimal, or cluttered with antiquities just to put an emphasis on "classic". You can find lounges, long tables, cornes for two during the daytime.

I happened to crush in just as the breakfast menu was being thrown out, so waited around 15 min to get the lunch offering. Had the North Atlantic salmon, with such fresh sides : baby beans, sweet potatoes, peaas and some feta cheese. The feta came as a surprise, but overall it was a refreshing and well cooked dish. The sweet potato had the touch of a kind of sugary sauce.

The venue also has a cocktaşls menu that has been rather worked on by a copywriter: have not tasted yet but it seems to be the one to discover around with friends, testing each one and finding yourself a little hazy as the chat goes on. I will definitely be adding that option to my list. I also did not have the opportunity to check out the events- heard that they have some artsy-craftsy stuff going on. Another item in the list.

And a reminder: do not get all furious at the waiters, the relaxed attitude does not signal they do not want to serve you, they do focus on the serving and the ordinary chores around the place as the orders are already taken at the bar.

Try The Book Club for a mid-day meeting ( a rather informal one ) with a group, lunch for 4-5 people and I just enjoyed the open kitchen choice : I do not like to be separated from the owners of the food, the smells, and all the action "behind the screen", I do have an interest in watching the whole process.

PS: When you are at lunch, you dont focus on the music playing in the background- but they just had the playlist in a flux, catching you by the tunes, not interrupting and triggering a few discoveries on Shazam.

The Book Club is a super trendy bar/restuarant/cafe/events centre/ping pong tournament club. If that doesn't sounds like fun I do not know what does! The concept of the place is really cool, they have an array of private and public events on in the evenings from Dj's to ping pong tournaments to debates and even speed dating!!

We stopped in one afternoon just to grab a coffee, but after seeing the cocktail list we soon changed our minds. The fun names grabbed our attention and we were sold on the exciting and inventive ingredients they have concocted. I ordered a "Touched for the very first time" which was made with homemade strawberry and balsamic syrup with hendricks gin. It was refreshing with a hint of sweetness a perfect afternoon pickme up!
My friends were more adventurous one ordering the "Total eclipse of the heart" created from four roses bourbon, apricot preserve & mint. Wasn't sure about mint and bourbon but it was actually surprisingly good!!

We ordered a side of fries which were really delicious thick cut proper fries, only complaint being the size for 3.50 pound. The rest of the menu looked great, will have to return to try it out!

The atmosphere is fun there's plenty to look at as well as some pretty trendy people around. The space is set out well with a variety of eclectic seating in from benches to small arm chairs and coffee tables. Wooden floors and funky decor this place really nails cool without trying too hard. The staff were nice and happy to recommend their favorite cocktails.

Only slight complaint would be that due to the wooden floors and brick walls it is very loud inside even with few people. Not an issue most of the time but maybe not the place if that's something that would bother you.

The Book Club is well-known hotspot in the artsy district of Shoreditch. They host regular art workshops, talks and live music nights. It's a very lively venue, and be prepared to bump into the occasional customer dressed head-to-toe in fancy dress or feather boa.

In the evenings it's lit with sultry lighting to help set off the party atmosphere. In one corner of the room there's a weird bear-like thing which even the deputy manager was at a bit of a loss about, but it all adds to the fun vibes of the venue. In one side room there's even a ping pong table - always great to test your reaction times when you're drunk!

Food service is simple: there are no waitresses per se, you make your food order at the bar and then someone will bring it out to you along with a cup of cutlery and perhaps some extra dipping sauces. From what I've seen, everything on the menu is pretty much a safe bet. There isn't a particular cuisine but there are quite a few Mexican options, and the chef is from Bolivia. The chips are nice and chunky, the nachos are smothered with tangy gooey sauce and everything on the meat platter is succulent. They have different menus at different times of the day as well.

Upstairs in the evening there's normally a DJ in the corner playing some mainstream or old-school music, while downstairs is reserved for the hard party-goers with blasting upbeat tracks (usually house or electro). If you can, you should come for one of their electro-swing nights, I think it's on once a month. We attended after going to a London music festival for my friend's birthday. There was a long queue to get in but I can honestly say that the after party was almost as good if not BETTER than some of the big name acts we'd seen at the festival. I was loving the DJs so much that I filmed some of their tracks using my phone, only of course to lose my phone a week later...

The Book Club is a favourite among my friends who have been encouraging me to go for over a year. I finally stopped by for drinks on a Thursday around 6:30 and it was already full of post-5pm city workers and we were lucky to find a spare seat in the corner.

We had a look at the menu which, although fairly priced, was very limited for a dinner menu. We decided not to order food, but saw several large sharing platters pass by to other tables with enticing-looking nibbles. For most of The Book Club's clientele I'm sure this would be ideal, especially with the various events held there.

The wine list was simple but varied and I enjoyed a large, warming glass of red (£5.60). The thing that impressed me about the wine list was that most of the selection was not hugely varied in price so I could choose something I really like, rather than what I could afford.

I'd go again, although I wasn't immediately struck by the same love for this place as my friends but it suited me and my flatmates for a quick early evening drink.

I went to The Book Club recently for a friends birthday and all I had heard previously was raving reviews. I can now say I'm a raving fan too.
We were downstairs in a private area and had huge platters of charcuterie brought in and phenomenal garlic bread.
Drinks were well priced and well made. A great area for a birthday party as you have the same music but a lot more space than the rest of the venue. Thoroughly enjoyed!

I really like this Shoreditch hang-out. It's easy to find and offers a real sense of atmosphere. There's a ping pong table and plenty of other quirks hidden inside. The food is simple but satisfying and there are some classic home-cooked traditional English food on offer.

There are lots of up-and-coming DJ's that play here and the music is usually house or something with heavy beats. They also have a whole ton of events going on like speed dating and poetry readings.

It gets real busy on a Thursday/Friday night. You'll find lots of hipsters, eccentrics, and new age thinkers there!

A very nice place to go and have a brunch or play a bit of table tennis. you will find yourself in the middle of the hipster community of London. This place is spacious and very comfortable with big tables that can fit a big group of friends. I could not recommend the eggs enough! They are free range and extremely tasty. It does not matter if you have them in the english breakfast or in scrambled eggs but don't miss out. You can also go there in the evening for parties as there is a big room downstairs that opens in the evening. Definitely a nice place to hang out and stay for a while.

Otherwise you find there all the other standards of a typical brunch.

I never went there for diner but I heard that there are great parties on the evenings.

I've been here for drinks with friends on several occasions and it's always a good laugh. The Book Shop is a trendy space in Shoreditch, just off Great Eastern Street. It's a great place to go hang out during the weekend for some ping pong, a bit of quiet reading or a casual drink. At night it gets pretty busy and it's often hard to find a place to sit down. I've never had food there but I've heard it's decent (there's a lot of vegetarian options).

Enjoy.

A lively place that offers up a mix of art exhibitions, club nights, poetry slams, thinking, and drinking. It's so good because of the events - there's always something unusual happening there. It is also much less book-wormy than the name suggests. Ping-Pong, Board Games and Pool all help ease the cultural shot.

Been here for drinks only on a friday night, but I really like the venue. Being an hybrid between a bar and a club, the Book Club offers the best of both worlds: a cheap cover charge (5£), a nice lounge area where to sip a cocktail and a dark and noisy dancefloor in the basement.

Although the ground floor gets busy and noisy quickly, it has a relaxed vibe you won't find in a club, as it provides a number of tables where can people can seat and a ping pong area where matches are always ongoing.

The basement dancefloor is surrounded by several tables that can be booked, and has one of the most amazing ceilings I have ever seen, all made of used light bulbs colourfully lit by disco lights.

Definitely a nice address where to go when you are unsure if you are in the mood for bar or club, or if in a big group with different preferences!

The vibe was nice, the venue itself is very pretty and the music was good - they also serve food up to a certain time. However, the entry fee on the day we went was £10 and a double vodka coke was £10.50, so the drinks and entry are quite standard for London. My experience with the bouncers was positive at first (although I've seen others reviewing that they were not so lucky). Later in the evening, my friend wasn't let back in even though his wrist was stamped and our girl friends were let back in - there seems to be some kind of selective entry after a certain time. There were some people in the club who were very clearly there to start a fight - kept intentionally bumping in to people and then getting angry, so the place can attract a bit of a weird crowd. Otherwise, the club in itself was pretty cool!

I used this spot to network with a potential vendor and get some work done. I love the vibe of this place. There's plenty of seating that comfortable. It's also a dynamic space too that has a good mix of play and work which I like. The food is hearty and filling at the right price. This is a great place to meet friend and socialize or get some work done. It depends on what time of the day you show up.

Been here both during the day and evening. Brunch is not bad, but I’ve definitely had better, especially the bread. When I came there were quite a few things not available even though it was the start of Sunday brunch, so was a bit disappointed. During the evening the place gets really crowded but the music is decent and the downstairs becomes a dance floor. It’s a lot cleaner and nicer than many clubs and bars in the nearby area.
