I used to work here many a moon ago and loved it , probably my fave place to work. Worked there when Vanda and abe were there .
We had excellent, prompt service despite the fact that the pub was pretty busy. The bangers and mash were delicious! I highly recommend this hidden jewel.
Wonderful little pub with great food. I had the excellent Steak and Kidney Pie and my son highly recommends the chips. GK Chesterton, author of the Father Brown mysteries, used to drink and write here as the offices of his newspaper, "Gk's Weekly" were just around the corner at 22 Essex Street. The staff were friendly, with the Landlord pointing out the picture of his father playing in the All-Ireland Gaelic Football Final of 1949, after he noticed my son's Gaelic Football top.
Went there yesterday for my friends early retirement do. We were in the upstairs rooms and the staff were brilliant they couldn't do enough for you.
Cosy and central pub. The owners are very welcoming. Highly recommended!
Top traditional Boozer. Good welcome always, pub games always a plus
Kind staff and we came in from the windy cold and immediately the gal made us feel welcome. We had all the good drinks. We came in early so we had the place to ourselves! Nice atmosphere, a lot of character, and fun things to look at. They also had a great playlist of music going on. It would be fun to karaoke.
If I had to describe THE Cheshire Cheese in two words I would use: Cheshire.... and Cheese.
That is simply because there is nothing else like it. Quintessentially a pub, the place will not disappoint anyone who wants a non-pretentious and cozy place to imbibe. The staff is beyond friendly and, most importantly, the bartenders actually make an effort to serve you even when the place is full.
Super cozy pub, really friendly service and great beers on tap (incl. Leffe and Guinness)! Location is also great on a nice quiet street.
A lovely hideaway nestled in a backstreet to the south of Fleet Street. Spitfire available both in keg form as a light smooth lager and in the cask for real ale enthusiasts. Fast efficient service in a dark wood clad bar, both warm and cosy. It would benefit from the presence of the odd highwayman or pirate to recount their adventures an brushes with the law. A thoroughly good pub to visit while exploring this history rich part of London. Do visit and enjoy!
Best pub in London. Bar maids are top drawer, we have Dua Lipa and Tomb Riader who are great hosts. They deserve a pay rise!!!!
Decent small pub, lovely service, nice people
Lovely place for a drink 🥃
My wife and I stumbled upon this place looking for food. Their kitchen was closed but we stayed for a drink anyway. Ended up staying for many. Loved the place! The beer on tap was delicious and the service was friendly. Felt like we were leaving our neighborhood pub by the time we stumbled (literally) out into the night.
This is a great example of fresh space to enjoy a beer in what is refurbished to feel like a pub returned to a shining version of its former glory. Beer follow a typical variety to try and some familiars that are reliable. Cast an eye up and brilliant dark panels because they are there to recognise.
Music feels like something to bring you out of the bland and gives it a touch more interest.
Do not expect football crowds.
Decent place to get a drink. Fun English pub atmosphere with a good selection of beer. Would come back again with friends to hang out.
