If I'm being honest, the reason why I like The Alex isn't because of the atmosphere (which is homely and local with a wooden lodge style bar), and it isn't because of the service (which is attentive, quick and friendly). No, it's because instead of parading fancy bags of crisps behind the bar, (or worse, Walkers and Quavers), they've got scotch eggs for bar snacks. This one was a black pudding scotch egg - giving it a 3.5 because it was a little dry so I'm guessing it had been out a while, but not a bad little treat when you're having Sunday evening drinks.
Oh and as we're big fans of all things scotch eggs, AKBoogie and I are on a mission to find a scotch egg burger in London... so if you find one, do let us know.
I live close by and so visit regularly for some grub. I love the roast beef and lamb as I can have it nice and rare. Served with unthickened gravy, crispy yorkies, veg and homemade sauces. The burgers are as awesome tasting as they are humongous cleverly served in a basket so my friends can't steal my fries.
The service has always been friendly and reliable and theres a great spirit selection. A great place for someone to try something new with each order. I definitely recommend it.

Asked to watch the football on sky and they put the projector on for us in a the function room. On a Friday night! Amazing customer service. Seems much better since management has changed
