This place is wicked. Set in an old garage and having a seasonally changing menu, the staff were friendly and helpful and the markings in chalk on the table for reservations were cool. Although not being able to reserve a space over the phone was a drag, although this might of changed by now, it had just opened.
Primeur opened quite recently (May 2014 I believe) from the duo that run the successful Bistrotheque in Hackney. We were a group of 3 there for a late Sunday lunch. Too lazy to call ahead to reserve but luckily there was no need. The restaurant was bright and airy with a minimalist decor. The restaurant used to be a garage and its nice they've kind of kept that character during the conversion with floor to ceiling doors which can open up the entire shopfront. Seating is on shared tables and the menu is meant for sharing giving it a very casual feel.
The food itself is a selection of small sharing plates made from selected fresh ingredients of the day. No printed menus... it's all up on a blackboard. You can rest assured everything is super fresh and seasonal. We opted for the following (hopefully I remember them correctly):
Cod cheeks with lemon aioli
Pig collar served with kale and salsa verde
Squid with capers and parsley
Duck hearts with lentils
Cod fillet with buttered brown shrimp
I couldn't fault any of the dishes. Was very pleasantly surprised by the duck hearts, they were served much rarer than expected and were tender and full of flavour. The squid too was excellent, not rubbery at all which is always a danger. It was tender and light. A carafe of Savoie complemented the meal nicely. I'd like to score the restaurant a touch higher but portion size being slightly on the smaller side than we'd hope for makes it less justified (apologies for my pictures... its quite possible a bite was taken out before I had a chance to snap them so don't use them as a guide for portion size either!). Miso definitely be back!
Very casual atmosphere & great food in this Michelin Bib Gourmand rated restaurant. You're sharing a table with all the other patrons, but there's lots of space, so it's not bad.
Menu changes very often and consists mainly of small plates meant to be shared.
Recommend just asking the waiter for a different wine glass for each course.
Had a great dinner here at Primeur.
Excellent food, friendly and helpful staff.
Favourites on the menu: Cods roe, ox tongue and the rabbit
Definitely worth it to try!
Amazing food, the kind you want to eat slowly and savour in your mouth. Charming setting with friendly service and not too noisy, while still feeling lively.
Excellent spot for a decadent dinner: great food, great wine and great service. The sticky toffee pudding is the best I've ever had.
Had the most lovely evening at Primeur. Service was fabulous, food fantastic. The mussels on toast was to die for. The curried cauliflower so refreshing and yummy. If we had to find anything at fault (and we’re looking hard) it was that the spinach and ricotta tortolo was a little dry inside and we’d have loved more of the delightful tomato sauce. The grape soda was also beautifully thirst quenching for our slightly hungover brains. Will definitely visit again. Staff, food, setting, all brilliant. Thank you!!!
One of the best restaurants in the area, what a hidden gem. The menu is small but with variety. The execution of each dish, superb. I could have just kept eating the rabbit dish as well as the monk fish dish.
Good for pairs, or groups. Popular so suggest booking in advance.
Wine selection would benefit from a few New World wines.
Will be back again and likely again and again!
Had THE MOST INCREDIBLE meal at Primeur after our wedding. Ben and the team gave fantastic and attentive service, with fantastic wine reccomendations and beautiful food - including a massive pavlova!
Primeur has a lovely, welcoming and relaxed vibe, with doors opening out onto the neighbourhood. We've come here now on a date night and with a big group, both times wonderful. Can't wait to visit again soon!
Thanks Primeur for the most perfect day!
Loved this. Great space and a delicious menu. The staff were brilliant walking that line of informal/friendly/on it. They worked hard to cater for a friend with dietary needs and we all loved everything we had, the lamb heart, in particular, was excellent.
Nice and cosy atmosphere with changing menu. Between the four of us, we shared the pear radicchio and salted ricotta salad, burrata with courgettes, grilled sardines with nduja (good), spelt with pumpkin (amazing), monkfish with peppers and butter beans (nice), venison sausages (good combo), lamb with lentils and salsa verde (not my favourite as it was quite fatty) and chocolate torte with creme fraiche (good). Thought the prices were slightly higher side for the portion size.
Very nice lighting atmosphere and not too noisy. Romantic setting. Food was good. Wine was good and does half bottles. A little pricey but not insane. Very odd picture of Jacob Rees-mog on the ground floor.
