A couple of years ago this restaurant was excellent, but whether they've lost a chef or just wearied, it's certainly lost its edge. Still a respectable menu, but overpriced given all the other considerations, and the recent competition on the street.

Brill family run bistro style restaurant. Contemporary menu with locally sourced and in season ingredients. Laid back with great atmosphere.

Great little restaurant. The chef is skilled both with his cooking and flavour combinations. Often foraged and organic ingredients are used. Pricey but rightly so as it is excellent quality.

Often we will run home from work on a Thursday, discussing what we're going to have for dinner, and will come to the conclusion that there's nothing for it but to go to Shane's for steak night. We decided to get married while eating there, took both sets of parents there when they met one another for the first time, and have had lots of delicious meals there. We love the décor, the food, the wine and the staff; it's a joy that such a wonderful restaurant is just around the corner.

Such an interesting menu, I wondered how it would taste? To say I was not let down is an understatement. The food was matched by the fantastic wine list, the service was great and the whole experience was very good value for money.

I visited Shane's for my 3rd time. Each visit has been about 9 months apart. The first 2 times, it was really solid and reliable. Most recently, something has changed. The mains were incredibly good. My duck was perfectly cooked and the sides and jus that came with it were incredible, and I've been fortunate to eat at some pretty damn places for comparison. My girlfriend's steak was also way beyond expectations. It's going to be far less than 9 months until my next visit.

Shane's is a real gem. Wonderful food, great wine list, friendly service in a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere. Been visiting this little restaurant regularly for a while and it's maybe my favourite in London, definitely in Hackney. About time I wrote a review. Love it.

Was there tonight. We wanted to celebrate something with my wife, on chatsworth rd. It was the perfect venue: super staff, nice photos exhibition on the wall, excellent music (nina simone, and others), and of course wine and food were delicious. I had the cheapest white (portuguese vinho verde. £3. it'll be perfect for warm nights) and the red wine of the month (spanish £4.5); both with way above average quality-price ratio. For food, I had the salmon to start with: some things to assemble: a cured salmon, with marinated celery and an olive oil based spinach jam. The whole bit to be put on home-made crackers. just the right quantity for a starter (£7). I then had the steak, an onglet, which when it is good (and it's not often in the UK, sorry) is one of my favorite piece of meat. I asked for it to be "rare"; and it came rare! French people will understand that :) absolutely great, tender, tasty; coming with thin chips and a small salad. Again, the right proportions (£15) We finished by sharing a desert (orange and citrus traditional british desert) (£5). All in all? Loved it and will definitely come again.

Went last night, had a wonderful warm evening, service was very knowledgeable and charming. The food fantastic and the bottle worked well together. First steak after 8 years a veggie :).. Very reasonably priced too, thanks Shane & co.
