Lovely pub. Staff are friendly. Nice tables inside and nice beer garden by the canal. Burger shack outside makes lovely vegetarian burger and curly fries.
Lovely roast, good service. Celeriac mash was a nice touch. Yorkshires were decent and the meat was well cooked . Charcuterie board was good, they pickled swede or parsnips I think? Overall good experience
Tldr; lovely location but book in advance during peak time. Food was amazing although not the cheapest.
This is a popular pub along the canal / River Lea and it was evident today with both indoor and outdoor tables being fully booked. We were lucky enough to snatch a table just as a couple was leaving
We had the watercress soup, Sunday roast, along with the bangers and mash. All 3 dishes were packed with flavor and good ingredients. It really was delicious, in fact we found the food to be a little too intense by the time we finished everything. Lots of salt and umami.
The only down side aside apart from how busy it was, is the price of the food being slightly more on the expensive end for a pub. The Sunday roast ran us 20 quid and the soup 9. Definitely worth it but in my opinion but there may be better value if you’re on a tighter budget
Went in on Sunday for an unplanned roast. Was very busy but the staff managed to seat us on a table before another sitting came in. Food came out quick, hot and tasty. I had beef roast, meat was tender, trimmings were all done well and a giant Yorkshire pudding. My wife had the chicken pie with mash, again all the trimmings were great extra jug of gravy provided without asking and the pie slapped. Well done POW
Lovely spot with lovely food. I liked their take on the chicken Kiev.
Plus the bar guys thought my friend and I were hilarious (laughing at/with not sure... ;). Good vibes.
Very busy, but a reservation ensured we got a table for Sunday lunch.
I believe there is a new manager, she knows how to run a pub and the staff seemed switched on and were amazing.
Food is outstanding, a great selection on the menu, not just basic food offerings.
They are located on the canal side, so great for after dinner people watching.
I've never seen so many dogs !!!
Amazing Sunday roast and fish and chips. The sticky toffee pudding was also delicious.
A nice canal side pub with a spacious and thoughtfully decorated interior. The menu has an eclectic range of offerings and the vegetarian / vegan options were creative, delicious and reasonably priced. All staff were very helpful, considerate and accommodating. While I appreciate and understand all orders are placed at the bar, table service, even if restricted to only a small section of the pub, would augment the overall experience which would likely result in a higher spend and a tip ! Overall, well worth a visit.
Great lunch at the Princess of Wales today. The burgers are excellent, as are the fries. Good beer selection. The staff were really friendly and helpful and there was a good atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back and I’m looking forward to trying the roast/regular menu.

Lovely pub and a must go . The outdoors seating is remarkable.
Had a lovely Sunday lunch here - really good food, generously sized and very fresh. Wide range of food options on the menu, staff were helpful and accommodating, very attentive and friendly despite being a packed out Sunday. A well made Bloody Mary and a thousand adorable dogs and babies made it a really nice inclusive atmosphere. Around us were large tables of friends having a really good time, I’d confidently book a big table with friends here but equally pleasant for a couple. I’d return and definitely recommend.
