I cannot tell you how many times I've been disappointed when eating in West Indian restaurants. However this joint was the lick! The bomb in fact! Food came on time no mess up with orders and cooked perfectly. I could taste every flavour in the jerk chicken individually at the same time - there was heat there was sweet there was twang there was a next layer of heat there was acidity met with charred BBQ smoke there was spice all kicking off in my mouth and the gravy!!!!?? Oh my!! The gravy you could just pour in a glass and gimme a straw. The chilli jam dip that came with the plantain was fiiiiyaaaaah!! 🔥 I seriously recommend this place and will be traveling from Kingston to Front Line just to eat here again. Faultless 10/10

Came here as part of my birthday celebrations, the place was very busy. Despite this we were seated quickly. Delicious food, great cocktails and service. Our waiter could not have been nicer - thank you.

The burger was uncooked, my parents was overcooked and soggy bun, the chips well i wouldn't even fed them to my dog. My daughter said the nuggets was ok, the onion rings and wedges were the only brilliant thing cooked such a shame

The Rum Kitchen is a Caribbean heaven. Jerk chicken that tickles your taste buds to the max with a load of rum to wash it all down!

The vibe in the place is great if you are heading to Notting Hill festival you should 100% drop in to the Rum Kitchen they will look after you!

After meandering around portobello road market yesterday, we worked up a bit of an appetite so decided to check out the Rum Kitchen, a Caribbean themed offering tucked just behind the market road. it's a laided-back, fun, young place where they play reggae in the background as tables of people drink rum-cocktails and chow down on some great food.

we got there just before 4pm which meant we were there just before the brunch menu finished - i was hoping to try their chicken wings and salt fish but sadly they don't serve those till later in the evening - which simply means i'll have to visit again!

i opted for a mug of the rattle skull punch which was a delicious blend of white and dark rums with lashings of fresh juice and spices while the girls tried the Rubin Carter. all three of us ordered a pulled pork sandwich which was a delicious - served in a thick brioche bun, the pork has a nice melt-in-the-mouth texture but i thought it was lacking a nice sauce to go with it so i ordered some mind-blowing 'swamp' hot sauce to drizzle on top - perfect!

‘Wings Day’, a Caribbean feast of all you can eat wings, sweet potato fries and a beer or rum punch, for £19.50 every Wednesday. I’ve been invited along to the launch and find myself quickly enamored, with little to report back that a few, fat, chicken-breathed kisses couldn’t say better. Attractive, no?

If you are looking for an appropriate place to hang out at night with your friends then this is just the right place for you to visit. The food is delicious and the drinks that were being served looked so tempting with all sorts of tempting ingredients being added in them by the bartenders. We enjoyed the music and danced till we dropped. Go this weekend!

The restaurant has an extensive list of house wines available. the ratio between the price and quality is quite reasonable. they are generous on the portions of the food served. a person must try the specialties available on the menu. i ordered the chicken wings which were delicious, though really hot!!

Do not try the wings as they are only tolerable at best. However, make sure you have the jerk chicken as mains as they are absolutely heavenly! The other food items are quite delectable as well! The bar is very nicely decorated and the cocktails are delicious. Definitely recommended.

The restaurant is located in one of the best locations in the country. The Kingsley court is beautiful. i would like to visit this restaurant again when perhaps i am earning. the place is a little expensive for my budget. i ordered a crab burger with salt fish fritters. The food served is truly scrumptious.

If you have a taste and liking for rum, then this is the place to be. They have a restaurant and bar upstairs. The bar tenders are really knowledgeable and any rum you ask for or name it and they have it. This place has a really good atmosphere, very relaxing where you can enjoy your drink.

This is a hip, tiny rum joint. The drinks here were very innovative and inspiring. They also happened to be very well presented. The Grog 349 is something everyone must try. The bar is quite warm and welcoming and manages to relax you after a day's hard work. The restaurant and the bar are in complete harmony with each other. The menu does not offer a lot of variety was the Caribbean is absolutely delightful. The only downside was the extra mayo in the burger and the ribs. Definitely worth a try.

I love the atmosphere here! So much so, that I forgot to eat at all as all my time was spent on dancing at the amazing music that was being played here. The drinks, however, were very delightful, especially the two weevils with rum. The decor here is quite unique and unlike any you would have seen around. Definitely recommended.

I recently tried this place while I was in the city. The food was excellent and was cooked to perfection. The ambience was lovely with beautiful decor and there was a decent music playing in the background which made the experience all the more lovely. The drinks were pretty good as well. Thus, I would love to visit this place again and would recommend others to try it as well.

We went here to have some drinks but the huge variety in the Caribbean menu completely changed our mind. We ended up ordering quite a huge amount of food which all turned out to be lip smacking and delectable, in huge portions too! The decor of the restaurant is quite warm and comfortable and has wooden furniture along with a long bar. The service is immaculate and the prices reasonable. Highly recommended.

The staff is excellent and their service is very efficient. The food is delectable and you would for sure walk out satisfied. Recommended.

I had a lovely experience at this place. The menu offers an extensive list of Caribbean classics. I ordered the Mutton Curry and the Jerk Fried Chicken and both of them were extremely delightful. The starters were also quite appetizing. The cocktails here are also delicious. I will surely return to this place again.

The presentation of each dish was a delight with crazy combinations of colours, tastes and textures. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting but this surpassed all these unidentified expectations. Make sure your pockets are slightly heavier because this is a little pricey for the casual dining vibe but if your experience is anything like mine, it's definitely worth it.

Inside, colourful tiles and wooden panels surround the tables and delicious jerky chicken smells waft around the room.

We were led to our table between the bar and the window; a perfect positioning to watch out for the rest of our party and see our drinks being whisked up while we waited. Opposite us was this lovely little wall (although I can't guarantee with that 'niceness' is going to be added to my vocabulary any time soon)!

At the bar, the magic was about to begin ...Here is what was created. An espresso martini (yes, the desert cocktail before the meal is a totally justified and acceptable choice)...... And a coconutty, pineapple mix (perhaps more appropriate) but equally delicious.

And now for the food! The jerk chicken burger won the heart and stomach of Maddy. While Lottie decided that the curry was more up her street.

My choice was obviously the chicken wings and oh was it a good one! They were the perfect combination of sweet, sticky and spicy. While being incredibly messy, that was all part of the fun. Somehow my white top remained pristine which I think is an achievement in itself.

A little bowl of plantain chips and dipping sauce completed a wonderfully tasty dinner and I'll definitely be returning for round two.

It could be the Mauritian in me, but wave the prospect of rum, rotis, calypso music and sunshine vibes in front of my nose and I’m first in line. Situate these in Notting Hill - one of the epicentres of London’s vibrant Caribbean community - and you have a great next-best substitute when a flight to the Port of Spain is still a depleted bank balance away.

The Rum Kitchen looks like the sort of place you could imagine on a white sandy shore, full of natives whiling away languorous hours over games of backgammon and tumblers of dark rum - but with a dose of London refinement.

White and azure blue outside with colourful interiors, barmen in floral shirts with excellent accents, mis-matched and multicoloured seating, walls emblazoned with local patois phrases and a background of reggae beets. The laidback beach-shack setting beguiles the careful consideration given to the food and its presentation - there are even linen napkins.

Island spiced baby squid were great on their own drenched in lime, but the scotch bonnet mayo was difficult to ignore when it tickles the back of the throat with the kind of climbing heat that’s heading straight for the nose lining (£6.50) - excellent. Rotis were neatly cut into triangles resembling quesadillas - I would have preferred them whole and ready for me to tear through, flung into a stack on a side plate. But they tasted good, as did the smoked aubergine and burnt tomato with garlic dips for them.

The mutton curry was everything those two words together should be - yielding hunks of slow cooked meat wallowing in a rich, spiced gravy, served with slaw and rice and peas for mopping (£12.50). Jerk chicken supreme was full of juice and sitting atop a mound of sweet potato and yam mash and more jerkin' goodness (£13.50)

For balance, a rainbow salad, with sweet and fibrous mango, roasted squash, creamy avocado, firm chickpeas, shaved coconut and a mild scotch bonnet and lime dressing - a heavier hand with the chillies and lime would have been preferred, but I understand not everyone has my palate (£7.50).

There was a pleasingly drunken but somewhat dry dark chocolate cake slashed with a viscous sauce. But then there was the banana cake which was entirely magnificent - soft and exquisite and boozy and heavy with the fruit. It reminded my of my mum’s Mauritian gateux banane. Find the room (can’t recall the prices - not on the website).

It would be nothing but impolite to dine somewhere with a liquor above the door and not sample a tipple or three. On the note of rum, they have a cellar housing over 100 varieties, including some from Mauritius, which pleased me.

I was mixed a heady mug of something with a (I suspect, generous) dash of that night-wiper Wray and Nephew, and Kraken black spiced rum. It’s initial innocuity conceals the rum devil within that, after the first sip, clambers up the spinal cord and gives the brain a smack-around. The name - Rattle Skull Punch - is a does-what-it-says-on-the-tin fit.

Just two of those, and something off-menu with a Mauritian rum (at my request), guava, lemon and laced with vanilla had my sleeves rolled up and arms swinging with inebriated satiety as I sing-song'd back to the tube station wearing a pretty warm rum-jacket for an early-April evening.

I arrived when it opened, and the place was heaving by the time we left. Less of a West Indian crowd, but later on that week I did meet someone from Trinidad and Tobago who said The Rum Kitchen is one of his favourite haunts. As is Roti Joupa in Clapham North, incidentally.

Late nights downstairs host DJ’s pumping out summer vibes of anything from Latin and reggae to calypso and Afro-funk. I can think of few better ways to spend a sultry summer evening in London then flitting between swigging rum cocktails whilst scoffing fresh-from-the-fryer saltfish fritters out front and jammin’ to Caribbean tunes inside.

My dining companion for the evening was Fiona MacLean from London Unattached - check out her account of our great meal.

Liked lots: summer vibes; staff accents; curry; the things with scotch bonnet in; that banana cake
Liked less: chocolate cake was a little dry, but you're not going for that
Good for: strong cocktails; rum nights; reggae jammin'; calypso moves; pretending you're in the West Indies; big groups and DJ's; jerkin' chicken

My rating: 3.5/5

On Thursday night Harry Styles went to The Rum Kitchen. On Saturday night Prince Harry went to The Rum Kitchen. On Friday night I went to The Rum Kitchen. Seriously world? How are either meant to fall in love with me if we keep missing each other like this?

I arrived a little ahead of my friend, and as it was a Friday refused to wait for my first cocktail. I chose the Strange Fruit, a combination of light Cuban rum, pineapple, fresh lime and Canadian maple syrup (nope never had that in a cocktail before either). It was delicious – sweet, smokey and with a nice tang from the lime. When my friend finally arrived she ordered a Rubin Carter and I felt I should try a different one. I shouldn’t have. I went for a Sharman’s Cox Daiquiri which said it had a hint of blue. Unfortunately it tasted more like it came from a tacky karaoke bar in Newcastle, the city I was a student in, than an authentic Caribbean beach bar. Lesson learnt, I went back to the Strange Fruit and stayed faithful to it for the rest of the evening.

We started with salt and chili squid, and salt-fish fritters. The fritters were a bit stodgy and had an odd tacky texture, but the squid was lovingly cooked with a crisp battered coating and a piquant sauce on the side. For mains, as it is still Lent and I am vowed off red meat, I opted for the seafood gumbo with corn bread. It had plenty of very good quality seafood in it -squid, prawns, mussels and chunks of white fish all floated in a spicy tomato soup. The gritty cornbread on the side was excellent, although there could have been a bit more of it to mop up the sauce. We also ordered a portion of perfectly cooked chips and a bowl of creamy coleslaw. My friend had the confit pork belly which she said was excellent. I will have to go back again post-Lent to judge for myself. Our bill (we had four cocktails each) came to just under £60 a head.

The food was really good, but you don’t come here for that. You come here for the atmosphere. At the end of a winter that has gone on far too long (seriously Cold, everyone is fed up with you, bugger off already) it was a big warm hug of a restaurant. Come with a group of noisy friends, order stacks of food and line up the cocktails. Then head downstairs to the bar below for more rum, dancing and metaphorical sunshine. And you never know, with a tad more luck than me, you might just meet a famous Harry or two.

We had a really good time here, it was quiet at the time we chose to go. The service was friendly and welcoming. The drinks and food came quickly and we were very satisfied with our food. The jerk chicken was really tasty, the goat curry succulent and full of flavour, we left stuffed and happy.

Awesome cocktails! But they really should invest in paper straws now that the plastic ones are no longer used ! My lipstick was all over the glass!! Lol Good food, chicken was a little dry and it could have been hotter but flavour was lovely. Waitress and waiter were awesome! Parking free after 6.30pm Thank you for a lovely evening. Will definitely visit again!

The Rum Kitchen is a little gem adjacent to Portobello Rd. Grab yourself a curry goat or mutton and you wont be disappointed! The venue is open planned and the staff are very welcoming. If you're visiting on a weekend try and grab a window seat so you can see the passers by and enjoy the music blasting out of the record shop opposite. #Vibes

Nice place good atmosphere cocktails are really good, could do with more staff as this seems to be a poplar place and gets quite busy. Had chicken thighs with rice and peas slaw was very tasty but some of the other dishes I personally wouldn't order. The staff were very friendly and polite and apologetic for being so busy. Bar man was a perfectionist with cocktails every one of themntasted amazing.

Supervising waitress even offered to make sure waiting party gave us time to exit without rushing. Gave four stars because not the best Caribbean food in London, but they were very good, and my daughter loves it so, there you go!!

Cosy, warm and friendly. This little restaurant and bar is very close to Portobello Road Market. The food is delicious, maybe spicy for some people but for me it was superb. You could also try some other dishes that are not. The staff are really helpful and pleasant. I really enjoyed the music. Oh my goodness my kind of music!! There's also a dance hall downstairs and their cocktails are rated greatly by my daughters.

Lets gets this out there at the start this is NOT authentic Caribbean food! I like to think of the Rum Kitchen as being 'heavily influenced by the Caribbean' but not 100% Caribbean food. The food is great and tasty, but the atmosphere really makes this place - wonderful music, attentive staff and the best bar menu around. Definitely recommended for groups of friends! Rather overpriced IMO.

Food could be spicier, drinks could be stronger, and menu could be slightly longer. Still, this hasn't stopped me dining in and having take-away twice. The quality of the food is high, flavours are great, staff are friendly and accommodating, and there's some choice Caribbean tuns on in the background. Some portions are big - like the TRK Jerk Chicken bowl, others are small like the Jerk Chicken Surpreme. I feel it's best to go with a group, order your own dish and throw in some sides for sharing to get a good taste of the menu.

Food was delicious! Although it was really cold in the inside and had to use their Robert dyas heater to keep warm. They did however move us to a different table. The downstairs club was AMAZING! The only fault here is when I got home my stomach wasn't too great and was throwing up (guess I had the food poisoning)
