That barman "Shep" is tastier than the bangin' food and that says a lot.

Cute bar, staff and drinks menu. Jalapeño vodka and an actual real life snakebite nailed it, also looking forward to the food! (Also really good selfie lighting in the loos, definitely a thing) X

This latest Pop Up at Pamela may now be over but was too good not to be written up. Vegan Chinese are not words that are often paired up. Carnivores need not shy away! The food was so very tasty and moreish that the lack of meat was hardly missed.
The menu was short and being gluttonous we ordered everything and were amply rewarded by the authenticity and depth of flavour. The noodle with 'pork mince' dish took me back to the Shanghainese restaurants of old that my parents used to frequent in S.E.Asia. Brought a tear to my eye as I savoured childhood flavours of bygone days. This is the highest accolade I can possibly give to any Asian dish replicated on western shores.Noodles were just a touch too overcooked/soft.Just the teeniest of gripe here.
The dumplings, purple broccoli and 'beef jerky' fried rice were particular stand outs. The fried rice had a deep smoky flavour -a good indicator that the wok was at its optimum frying temperature-a good barometer of a great stir fry.

Should Mao Chow make a repeat appearance I would recommend making your speedy way there to sample these gems.

I genuinely couldn't fault my evening at Pamela's: the intimate atmosphere, friendly and knowledgable waiters, unbelievable food (try the chargrilled Oysters and okra!). I'm usually disappointed when I eat out in London, but this really took my breath away. Definitely coming back!

Austin. Portland. Chicago. Detroit. New Orleans. These and others are all on the list for a planned road trip through the US of A. The list continues to grow. But funnily enough – even with the hospitality industry changing course to follow the American Barbecue food trend, it’s still pretty unheard of to find a proper Southern breakfast here in London.

From the moment they started serving in the summer of 2015, Decatur has been on a mission to introduce London to the home comforts of the great Southern state of Louisiana and in the process, they have developed a loyal following. But that's to be expected when Tom, the man behind the brand, is slinging food of such high quality with a passion that can only come from a self-confessed "Americophile". Having honed their trade on the streets, Decatur have now taken their talents indoors, setting up shop in the newly renovated kitchen of Pamela in Shoreditch.

For those who have come across Decatur before, whether it be while trading with streetfood conglomerate Kerb or at Druid St Market, I don't need to tell you how good Tom's food is. However, given the luxury of a full kitchen, he has elevated his game to a whole other level with a menu that sounds so delicious, it makes it almost impossible to land on an order. It is essentially a bible of Southern comfort food.

Starters such as devilled eggs and puffed pig skin cracklin (with spicy vinegar) set you on your culinary journey but as good as they are, it is the small plates which will set your tastebuds alight. Here, Decatur currently list nine items; if I had to suggest an order, get all these nine items as your entire meal. I am dead serious.

Dishes such as the hogs head terrine and Kentucky-style beer cheese actually make for perfect starters and served with a few pickles, has you picking your way through an array of flavours to wet your appetite.

Chasing this with a few Decatur signature oysters is a must and whether you go with chargrilled (with a garlic-percolino butter) or Nashville 'Hot' oysters, you're in for an absolute treat. The alternative methods of cooking highlight the differing textures and tastes of oysters very well; for the purist among us, the chargrilled oysters retain a lot more natural flavours and textures whereas the chicken-fried nature of the Nashville 'Hot' creates more of a creamy sensation which is only enhanced by the rich wonder bread that accompanies it.

Moving on then and this is what I would term the "mains" of the small plates, where dishes like the thin fried catfish and the boudin balls smack you in the face hard. Each bite feeds the soul in a way that only the very best comfort food can and this is even before I mention the real showstopper: the whole buttermilk fried quail. Whole. Buttermilk. Fried. Quail. It is as impressive as it sounds and drizzled with hot honey and thyme, is as delicious as it looks with the crispiest of coatings hiding succulent meat. Where their oysters put Decatur on the London food scene radar, this dish has just cemented their place on the map.

Along with mains, a "side" plate of charred okra is a definite. Served with ricotta and pepper jelly, it was one of my dishes of the night which is high praise coming from a meat lover.

Menu aside, always ensure you inquire about the daily specials and desserts of the day in case you miss out on something special; for example on this night, it was a moreish plate of sous-vide red carrots with goats curd & jelly and a ridiculous dessert of bourbon infused pumpkin pie topped with meringue. So yes, ask about specials.

So first Decatur nailed the streets and if this meal is anything to go by, they are already well on their way to nailing a brick and mortar service. The food here is serious and provide the ultimate comfort for the winter nights ahead. Well, until January anyway when their residency ends so get there now!

I haven't been this excited about a restaurant in London since visiting Nuno Mendes' Taberna do Mercado several months ago.

We attended the discounted soft launch, but even at full price this place is a steal given the quality of the food.  This is the winter residency of a street food stall specializing in obscure  American regional dishes focusing on Louisiana.  The two of us shared several small plates which are between £5 and £6.50 at full price.  The little bar snacks are £1.5 to £3 at full price.  The amazing thing was  that *every* dish was very good to outstanding both in terms of execution and concept.  Flavors and textures were all beautifully balanced.  Decatur punches way above its weight with respect to pricing. Cooking skills and inventiveness are on par with some big name restaurants that charge twice the price.

Service was knowlegable and amazingly swift, especially for a soft launch.

We started with our snacks of deviled egg made with homemade mayonnaise and pickles.  We were impressed by the Pickle Plate of cucumber, carrots, radish, green beans and watermelon rinds.  In particular, the sweet and spicy, juniper spiked, watermelon rinds were outrageously tasty.  After waxing on about them, the waiter kindly brought us a little extra of it.

Next came the Kentucky Style Beer Cheese, a spread of sharp cheddar and beer with cajun spices and garlic.  Delicious and a nice whipped texture. It came with some crusty griddled sour dough drizzled with olive oil and a clove of garlic for rubbing the bread, like Spanish tostada.  There were some more of the lightly pickled radishes with this dish.

After that we got both the Nashville Oysters (deep fried) and the Chargrilled Oysters.  I preferred the grilled oysters which were slathered in garlic-pecorino butter and hot sauce.  There was still a lovely slurp of salty oyster liquor in each shell.  The fried oysters had a little too much batter clinging to them for my taste but were pleasant enough and not at all greasy.  The deep fried oysters at Merchant's Tavern on Charlotte Road are  a bit better, though £3 a piece instead of £2 at Decatur.

Finally we got the Charred Okra and Fried Catfish.  The okra was a revelation.  I'd only had okra boiled before and think of it as a sort of slime rather than a vegetable.  But blackened over a charcoal grill it was terrific.  Okra was sitting on a mound of  slightly sweetened whipped ricotta dotted with pepper jelly which made a beautiful foil for the crunchy savory veg.  Fried catfish coated in cornmeal was incredibly light and crisp like a tempura.  It was accompanied with a spicy tartare sauce and some lightly dressed coleslaw.

We had the house red wine at £19 a bottle.  This was one the best meals I have had in recent memory at any price.  I liked the originality.  Most restaurants specializing in food of the American South are riddled with cliches (ribs, pulled pork, burnt ends, dirty fries).  Definitely not the case here at all.

I had absolutely delicious vegan Chinese food here when the pop up was on over a month ago now. It was aromatic, flavourful and not too heavy, I loved it ! Other than that there is a great selection of unique cocktails and spirits which was fantastic. Can't wait to comeback for other pop ups !

Absolutely loved the food here. We were 3 and none of us (2 carnivores and one pescatarian) and we all loved the food and ordered seconds. The textures of some dishes are just like meat, and everything is fresh, crispy and accompanied by spicy delicious sauces. It's a must try place! My favourite dish is the chicken wings. The staff here are also lovely, fast service and the decoration is fun. We were not impressed with the cocktails, so I wouldn't recommend this place to go for drinks only, and still this is one of my favourite places to eat in London.

This is basically the official after-party bar for performers at The Free Association improv theatre in De Beauvoir Town. Many a late-night session has concluded here! Opens late and a good atmosphere.

Wow, incredible food! It's unique, interesting, tasty, flavorful (but a bit too salty - I necked about 7 glasses of water immediately after). The staff are also super nice. I'll definitely be back to sample their frequently changing menu! The larb was my favourite 👍👍 Their cocktail menu is creative as well

I like that the fantastic vegan menu always changes, service is excellent and knowledgeable, but a bit slow. Some drinks are not vegan (honey content, wine).

Really tasty cocktails, great friendly staff...and the most amazing vegan food. I literally didn't believe it was vegan (nor did I realise it was a vegan restaurant). It was tasty, filling, flavoursome and made you feel like you were eating regular food. Would definitely go back.

Nice place, nice vibe and a fun cocktail menu and well stocked back bar. Service is... Questionable with the staff acting like they were in a much busier bar that was 5 deep in spite of the fact it was a quiet Friday night. I wanted a cocktail but got frustrated at being ignored and just gave up. Just amateurish and lack of self awareness re: who's waiting. Pity. Would return to try one or two drinks out though.
