A nice costly little restaurant in the busy Hampstead high street. They do wonderful Chinese food and while they're slightly more expensive than many their counterparts they justify this by offering food of a much higher quality.
I like to start with the dim sum platter, big enough to share with a few friend. My signature main is the sea bass fillet sometimes with steamed rice sometimes without.
The service is good if unspectacular and there drinks as well. It can get busy so either make a reservation or go early.
We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance. We were looking for a new place to eat near home and we came across 'Goldfish' and boy were we pleased. Interesting menu with some really nice modern twists. The soft shell crab was awesome and so was their stir fried beef with garlic and bird eye red chillies and Chinese greens.
Goldfish does great Chinese food. Very much Anglochinese with some modern twists (but not a bad thing) and done extremely well. The place prides itself on being 'clean': no MSG, no gloopy thickeners and everything cooked fresh.
It is expensive, though, which is why I have not given it 5 stars.
I'd like to start this review with an anecdote. The first time I visited Goldfish, I was with a friend. They have these lovely broaches for their napkins, and my friend liked them so much she jokingly said that she ought to steal them. The uptight waitress had overheard, and unceremoniously took them from us. It was by turns awkward and hilarious, and we laughed about it. But it didn't spoil out love affair with Goldfish by any means. Goldfish, you see, is a wonderful restaurant.
When I first joined Zomato, I decided to do what any good foodie would do, and type in their favourite restaurants into the search function to make sure that Zomato did their homework and put those places up. I was so panicked and affronted when the Goldfish restaurant in Hampstead failed to turn up that I got in contact with a member of the Zomato team, letting them know about this short falling. Sure enough, it appeared on the site soon afterwards. I decided to save my review of the place for my milestone 50th - you know, in the name of ceremony.
Goldfish is a Chinese restaurant that gets everything right. The decor is classy, trendy, chic and subtle. The food is incredible. And the price is very reasonable. Aside from the anecdote above, they staff really do make every effort to attend to your needs. Particularly vivid in my memory are the chicken wings I ordered as a starter on my first visit. They came, still sizzling. They were some of the best wings I'd had, ever. And the rest of the meal stayed true to that sky-high standard. I have since gone out of my way to get to Goldfish. Such restaurants should be rewarded for ticking all the boxes, and so long as it keeps up the good work, I shall continue to sing its praises.
The last time we went, they organised the tables so that a bottle of still water was already on the table. When asked what we wanted to drink, my friend said water. He had meant tap water, but the waitress quickly opened the bottle of still water and served it to us. It was a classic ploy to get us to buy the water. It left a similar bad taste in the mouth as the napkin ring incident. But in the end, we laughed at how easily we'd been played, and the food, as ever, righted all wrongs, and rallied our spirits. By the time the bill came, we didn't begrudge the extra pound or two for the water. Dolphin had earned it.
Screw Flanders.
Lovely delicious dim sum buffet on a sunday lunch with family.
Really enjoyed my meal. Would definitely recommend if in the area. The food was really tasty and the service was very good. Plus if you pay by cash, you get 15% off of the food. Had squid as a starter and beef noodles with vegetables for mains. Perfectly cooked!
Food was good we were seated right away. Staff was friendly. We have beef stir fry with egg noodle. Braised pork ribs and battered soft crab.
Came for the all you can eat dimsum offer from Timeout. Great service. They were quick to take our orders and clear plates. Food came out very quickly and as soon as it was ready. They didn't rush us at all and always asked if we wanted to order more. Great experience.
Really impressed with the food taste .😋 prices given the location its a bit higher but definitely work to visit and eat there .
Great food! Excellent service. Thank you Goldfish for being open post pandemic!
The food outstanding though the prices are on the higher side. One would expect dinner dinning experience at those prices.
Top-notch food in classy surroundings. Everything was… PERFECT. Literally, every piece of broccoli looked and tasted perfect! We loved the chicken in black bean sauce, the hot and sour soup (really packed a punch) and the mixed vegetables - truly a satisfying meal, in enormous portions.
Always enjoy eating here. Good choice of dishes and the chefs work in an open kitchen which is interesting to watch. Good location fairly easy to park nearby after 6.30 pm despite it being central Hampstead.
One of the best finds around Hampstead.
Great food, great variety and decent drinks.
I'd definitely give a try on the veg duck and also the salt & pepper tofu! Could not get enough of it!!
Thanks guys for the absolutely outstanding food and service! Love Comptoir Des Cotonnier team!
We ordered 4 different types of dumplings and they were all delicious. The chicken fried rice was great. The salt and pepper pork ribs had a good flavor, but the meat itself didn't taste that fresh. The service was not rude, but not terribly friendly either. Overall, food was great, will definitely go back again!
