A friend and brother firefighter arranged accommodation for my Mom and I on my most recent visit to North Yorkshire (my fourth, Mom's first). What a great place! Our rooms were top notch, the structure itself and its history are fascinating, wonderful gardens. Breakfast was fantastic and carried me through the day. The staff members I came in contact with were lovely in every regard. Highly recommend!!!

Beautiful hotel in gorgeous surroundings. Had a delicious meal at lunch time. Very friendly and polite staff on reception. Took us through to the bar. Reduced menu due to kitchen being refurbished. Still numerous and excellent choices. For a special occasion, couldn't get better. The waitresses were courteous and friendly. Nothing too much trouble.

Enjoyed our stay and an easy five stars. Best bits: * The establishment - including its grounds - oozes history and character * Upgraded room with massive jacuzzi sized bath (and bathroom) along with separate shower * Fascinating local in the hotel bar who owns a nearby village (downgrade from his family half of Yorkshire a couple of centuries ago but it'll do). Won't go into more details due to discretion, indeed it is only his openness that gives me moral permission to post this. But if you like people you'll love him. And Hugh if you're reading the member of Genesis we'd both forgotten the name of was Peter Gabriel! * Great staff - really lovely and helpful. Unfortunately I didn't get any of their names otherwise I'd mention them, but we liked literally everyone - either they went out of their way to help us or would have done if we'd needed them to. Not so great: * Hot water supply to said room needs upgrading - it's plenty to fill the massive bath or the shower, but it's not enough to refill it. * Supper's not bad but should be better (I can see why that would be hard at the current prices - so just put them up!). Didn't try breakfast so can't comment on that. Random observation neither good nor bad: We stayed for three nights and while there was definitely housekeeping going on, they didn't go to our room. Am not bothered about that cause firstly like I said the staff were great and I'm sure we could have asked for housekeeping if we'd wanted it, and secondly the rooms were huge but it did mean we felt a bit guilty leaving three days worth of rubbish. Maybe we just need to learn to make less rubbish :D

Cracking hotel with ample free parking, the staff we encountered on our visit were very friendly and informative, it’s a great base to explore the East coast and many other little villages around there then on the night time you can walk into Malton and have some nice food and drinks at the local bars. We had a lovely 2 night stay and I wouldn’t hesitate staying here again.

Went for a 70th birthday and we were given a private room. That food was really good and they couldn't do enough for us. So a big thank you and we will be booking again.

The Old Lodge is such a stunning building. Full of character and history. The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff have been so cheerful and helpful. The staff came to my aid a year ago. My parents are in their 80's. My father had suffered with dementia for 6 years. They hadn't had a holiday for a number of years. I rang The Old Lodge explained our needs, we trialled a night. I can't thank the staff enough. We've been back 5 times and have booked again We love the place. I stayed over with my children and their partners to visit Flamingoland. They all want to stay at The Old Lodge again. We have enjoyed the breakfasts, evening meals and afternoon teas. We will keep returning

A great place to stay , apart from the accessible rooms which aren't really and very dodgy WiFi . Service is 5 star and the food tastes delicious 😋

Four stars, one lost for the following. How I wish hotels would utilise summer duvets, in preference to the wrong duvets, as in a winter duvet, too hot to be under in September, yet too chilly to be thrown off, leading to a disturbed night's sleep as was the case and reported to reception here at The Old Lodge. What a location, what a building, what a (tired darkly lit) room and yet everything worked well. Lovely grounds wirh ample garden seating, and with safe parking. The service from reception to dining room and onto checking out was impeccable in its friendliness and efficiency.

3.5/5 The lodge is situated in a great location if you’re planning on visiting York and exploring the Moors. We booked a room in the Old Lodging building, but were checked in one of the Feature rooms, which was a nice bonus. The lodge gives off a Downton Abbey vibe, but “on a budget”. It would have been so much more impressive if the owners kept it up. We were finding dead bugs and cobwebs everywhere around the room, breakfast was served a bit cold and we had to wait quite a bit. I’d say it’s more like a 3 star hotel. The main thing that makes it a 4 star are the bathrobes provided in the room. Despite many people staying at the same time as we were, it was very quiet and we never heard any noise from the street or inside the lodge. Entrance to the property is easy to miss, so pay attention when approaching it.
