Went in by chance this afternoon and wasn't disappointed. Had the chicken waffles and they were amazing. Can't recommend them and the strawberry milkshake enough. Reasonably priced and fab environment. Lovely friendly staff and didn't feel rushed to leave.
Came for a birthday breakfast, had the banana pancake which was massive - much to my delight and 'ooooohs' of neighbouring tables. It was also bloody delicious! Boyfriends steak and eggs also yummy - poached eggs cooked to yolky ooze excellence. Extra star for the waitress saying I didn't look as old as my birthday age - maybe giant pancakes are the answer to youthful skin.
It is refreshing to find a great place today! Really lovely, attentive staff, great food and a perfect atmosphere - thank you!
I feel sensitive and also have to be careful with my diet and this restaurant is also very good in those terms. I have very sensitive hearing and today it is hard to find somewhere without horrible jarring music while you eat - I am very grateful for this place and the cold environment. The choice of beverage is excellent too. I don't consume sweeteners and many places only offer "diet" drinks. I had a beautiful Rhubarb & Rose drink and it was divine - and there was NO sweetener!
A beautiful gem in lovely NQ - thank you!
A very cosy and relaxing place to chill out and have the best coffee in town. It is one of the shops that I visit when seeking peace and comfort. The staff are friendly, though the service could be quicker.
This place is cool!
I have eaten at Home Sweet Home twice and it's fab! The food is great and the staff are super friendly. Really cool atmosphere and would definitely recommend a visit!
If not the best place for milkshake in town, I would say this is the best milkshake I've ever tried so far.. not to creamy, not to sweet but just right that on the spot. I ordered the kicker which the waiter suggested. Well best thing! The service is good, the place is nice too for relax.. long the way from Indonesia to here is worh it! :)
What a great menu. I could eat everything! If you like chicken, then this is a winner. So many great items.
Service was good friendly and informative. Drinks were fast.
We all had a mixture of mains. No complaints. Caesar salad was the best I’ve ever had and the halloumi fries.
Chicken waffles- fantastic!
This is comfort food I could eat everyday!
The food and cocktails were amazing. The chicken in a basket had a kick to it and it tasted delicious. The "WUNDER JAR" was delicious as were the extra skittles .... thanks.
The end to a brilliant day and so pleased so stumbled across this places. We will all return again.
Great place for brunch, a lot of choice. Staff helpful with advice on the menu and customising orders. Food came in a good time and tasted great. Just had to remind staff a couple of times about incomplete drinks orders when it got busy.
Amazing. Best breakfast/ brunch I’ve ever have.
So tasty, my parter ate the eggs calie and I ate the veggie scramble with artichoke that was so delicious that I could eat that every days of my life.
I sure recommend “Home sweet Home” to everybody that comes to Manchester.
There are no shortage of places to eat out in the Northern Quarter. All with their own unique style, branding and that little bit of Northern-Quarter-Quirkiness. When we decided to celebrate my sisters pre-birthday meal out at a place of her choice she knew exactly where to go and was happy that she could finally force us all into a place she had been craving for weeks. ...
Eggs Benedict on point! The restaurant at the great northern has definitely more space than the one in the Northern quarter (and a great terrace!)
Have eaten here forever but it never occurred to me that I've never written a review! And so here I am after my recent visit. I would say everything is fabulous at this place. Everything from cocktails, beer, burgers and nachos to their wonderful cookie dough skillet for two! Don't get this if you're not a fan of soft gooey sweet marshmallows and ice cream! Forget your high street American diners just head to this place.

Really liked this place. Popped in this evening for some grub and after some serious will power, opted against the fried buttermilk chicken, pulled pork shoulder and mountains of sweet potato fries for a more wholesome sizzling chicken fajita. Normally, I add chill sauce to give it the right kick for me, but this was done just right. The pot sizzled for ages afterwards which is always a good sign in my book. Service was a bit slow but I was dining solo so forgiveable. Good value and a great outdoor area ... shame about the weather mind you!
I had enjoyed a fantastic meal here with a friend. We had a salad, some chicken strippers and the steak board.
Great attention to detail and the food was mouth-watering. I was following a Ketogenic eating plan when I made my first visit here, they were very helpful in keeping the food to what I was able to eat.
I'm coming back here for a birthday freakshake now that I can eat carbohydrates!
The first thing that caught our eye about this place was their selection of cakes! They looked so good! We didn't try any because we were going for breakfast so it was too early on in the day! I had the Veggie Aynault, which was a vegetarian version of eggs benedicts! So good! Staff was also really friendly but there was a bit of a long wait so we decided to sit on the tables near the bar rather than inside the diner!
I'm not going to lie, the cakes look phenomenal but I wasn't to impressed by the taste. They were very very sweet and sickly! Milkshakes are good although also not suitable for diabetics 🙈
The main menu is what really bumps up the rating! Although I haven't had the delight of sampling the breakfast menu I have eaten at dinner time and thoroughly enjoyed it. There's something to suit every taste and appetite and if it's something a little bit greasy and comforting that you're after then this is most definitely the place to head to!
A HUGE selection of great, fun cakes. Anything as classic as chocolate cake to a pretty epic cookie monster or jammy dodger cake. Tucked away from the main High Street, perfect coffee and lunches.
Very cute setting with that NQ hipster vibe we all love
Took the boyfriend before a concert and he said it's the best pulled pork nachos he ever had
He intermittently bugs me to take him back.
Considering how hard to please he is it's safe to say our meal was a success
A very cute little cafe with a very warm vibe. The five dollar shake was just simply too good, and the main courses were also great, although a bit on the pricey side. The cakes look beyond amazing, I shall come back to try them out in the near future. The atmosphere was very comfy, the perfect place for a cute date. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Definitely coming back for many more times 👍🏼
Home Sweet Home
The name just strikes a good note with you. You get a vibe which says that this place will make you feel at home and fill your bellies with food made with love and perhaps we experienced just that.
From the moment you enter, no matter how many tables are already taken and how busy the servers might be, they will ensure that they greet you with a smile and guide you personally to your table.
On a hungry morning, we mapped our way to Home Sweet Home and were instantly enchanted by the feel good vibe of the place.
What did we eat?
Breakfast Waffle: Very pretty looking dish arrived at our table and I was ready with my weapons to cut through the waffle. I had a moment of pause here though, why is the waffle not crispy! Well I got over that soon as the eggs, bacon and maple made up for this. I hope they are not supposed to be like this? All my life I’ve known waffles to be slightly crispy? Or no?
Eggs Cali: Beautiful looking, brilliant tasting!
Sun Devil Scrambler: Yummy. Just loved the bits of Chorizo spread unevenly across the dish.
Strawberry, Nutella, Kicker shakes: Very filling and thick shakes as I like em!
Well done, will definitely visit again if given a chance :)
Love this place in NQ! In my role as an older brother, I thought I’d take it upon myself to show my little sister somewhere better to eat than you can get down in Stocky and took her up to Home Sweet Home whilst I was back in town for a weekend.
It’s pure comfort food designed to have you slouch in your seat as you stuff your face with loveliness. We shared some brisket, fries and a couple of massive milkshakes – the rainbow cake we got toward the end proved a bridge too far but I regret nothing, it was amazing! Highly recommend and will definitely return next time I’m up.
Great little cafe in the heart of Manchester's trending enclave. Nice reminder of Melbourne , Australia. Good coffee, friendly staff and fresh quality food. For those discovering the High St chain coffee is actually tasteless rubbish, then take a wonder down to the northern quarter to enjoy this and many other quality cafes.
Great experience all round. This quaint place has a strong buzz, friendly staff and (for my tastes) a great menu. Helen and I shared the chilli nachos, excellent, and followed those with a salad and a burger respectively. Both were good, the burger isn't an Almost Famous competitor but I really enjoyed it. Just watch the fries, they were well seasoned! We split a lovely gooey chocolate brownie to finish and were both stuffed! Great coffee rounded things off beautifully.
Well worth a visit.
Nice place with friendly attentive staff and quick service.
The chilli dogs are a must and the maltshakes are pretty good too.
Finally enjoyed the Home Sweet Home 'signature bake' - the apple pies baked inside a cake. The amount of calories this must contain is terrifying, The pie was a sweet pastry Mr Kipling style pie with those ultra sweet pieces of apple and the thick rich apple sauce all baked within a sponge cake baked to the usual high standards of Home Sweet Home. The thick red icing (just look at how much there is in the middle!) and various sweets on top all added to a pretty ultimately over the top brilliant cake
Roasted Sweet Potatoes
+4.5
As always when we go there, Jon ordered Pulled Pork Pile Up (£9.50) which contains slow cooked pork on sweet potato fries covered in BBQ sauce, jalapenos, salad and apple slaw as a main. Although he thinks the menu is a little bit boring for meat eaters, he thoroughly enjoys this dish.
Victoria “Mrs” Petticoat

I was pleased to see it had been made using an actual toastie maker. If not, it is a toasted sandwich and to describe it as a toastie is false advertising (I often want to sue people for this very serious food crime).
Relaxed yet timely, homemade yet wonderful and simple yet thoughtful.
The full breakfast was generously proportioned and was one of the best English-style breakfasts I’d had in a while. The bacon was crispy and and all of the ingredients were of high quality: not the usual watery, tasteless mushrooms you get in most cafés. The Texan Skillet was excellent and the experience of jack cheese with spicy fried potatoes is one I hope to repeat in the future.
This place is busy! So we had a small wait whilst taking in the atmos and surroundings: lots of groups of hipsters, lots of girls catching up over a cuppa and a huge slice of cake, and then there were us! The decor is twee (Bless this Mess cross stich, vinatge chic etc), and there is a huge serving counter full of cakes and treats and this is also where the coffees and milkshakes are made. The staff are very pleasant and hardworking. In the back rooms the decor is a little bit more utilitarian.
And there's always somewhere new to go, although I have to say, I don't often go at peak time, I enjoy it most in the early evening or in the day when it's more chilled and I'm too old to queue anyway.
This time it was time to visit Home Sweet Home. It's not new at all, but it's owned by the same people as Almost Famous, so I knew it'd be pretty good - it was.
We shared their house specialities Cheeseburger Toastie and a Pulled Pork Bun and fries. They were both simply ace for what they were. We especially relished the cheeseburger toastie, I just regretted sharing it. Next time I'm having one on my own. To follow, some lovely banana and avocado cake, and coffee. It was all good, I really couldn't fault it at all. Most importantly it cost us about £20 for lunch for two of us which is decent value for the area. So, where to next?
Continuing with the comforting theme, ‘Jalapeño Mac ‘N’ Cheese’ was essentially a mug of liquid cheese with penne pasta and jalapeños floating around inside. It was by far the cheesiest Mac ‘N’ Cheese i’d ever eaten, I dread to think how many calories it contained but I loved every single mouthful, especially those with jalapeños.
As soon as I stepped through the door it became apparent that I had not been here before at all. Lots of quaint mis-matched furniture, a bar stacked with what seemed to be homemade cakes and lots of people. We were shown to what appeared to be the last table in the place. Such busyness always seems to conjure up conflicting thoughts. Firstly – well it must be pretty good as it’s full. Secondly comes the nagging doubts – the service will be bad and there’ll be a massive wait for the food.
Home Sweet Home is a charming ‘gourmet bake house & coffee bar in Manchester's independently spirited Northern Quarter’ which specialises in “home comforts” – brekkie, cookies, cakes, coffee, tea, toasties, sandwiches, salads, sides and shares… that kind of thing. They also seemingly specialise in good cheer and great service.
Home Sweet Home is very Northern Quarter - the furniture is thrift store mismatched, the typeface on the menu a little Barnum circus circa 1954 and the clientele is the usual mix of fashionably under styled hipsters, vintage inspired 30-somethings...
I find all of the cakes and sweet things here to be sickeningly sweet and slathered in artificial tasting butter icing. I personally believe that I could make a much better cake or dessert at home and for probably half of the calories! Some of the savoury items that I've tried I've enjoyed, especially the salad which taste fresh and clean.
When I was looking for cool places to eat at in Manchester, Home Sweet Home was recommended few times , so we decided to try this place out for a breakfast. Located in the colourful Northern Quarter, Home Sweet Home itself had a very charming vibe to it. The wallpapers are very 'homely' and the decor quirky.
The service is quite slow from the go (we got our menu late, food late and even bill late) but that's the only negative. The waitress was quite friendly and the food is worth all that it's praised.
We ordered a full breakfast and it was made to perfection. It had something called the black pudding (also known as blood pudding) which I loved the most)
We also ordered a blueberry and maple syrup milkshake - fantastic again! We finished it with a chocolate mint cake, which was just okay - although they are famous for their cakes - may be we should have tried other flavours.
In the end, I ordered a coffee - they serve it in a huge cup and I had to leave half of it, but the coffee was quite good.
We paid £17 pounds for all this, not a very cheap place, but then quality is great!
Also, they have a funny Twitter feed, worth following them!
A breakfast treat. It's quirky and kitch inside with mismatched chairs and tables. Breakfast was the order of the day and although a little pricey the food is great. I enjoyed the Sun Devil Scrambler which has now led me to decided there is no sin in having onions, peppers and potatoes at breakfast time. If you want a breakfast outside of the box this is your place.
The decor is lovely and the menu has great brunch options. The food was great too! Had the Eggs Cali and chocolate milkshake and pancakes for dessert (although I usually don't order desert but the atmosphere was encouraging), all were tasty and really good. The less star is for the espresso which was not good at all. Service was friendly and quick as well.
Another great experience i had today here at HSH in deansgate, this time I had a slice of cake, delicious lemon meringue and cakes can be overwhelming since there are so many and the slice is so big. Nice and friendly staff as always and the atmosphere is magical here, different than a normal bar, perfect for a date. Vegan menu as well.
Lovely place. They know how to make good coffee - the almond milk flat white was amazing. Foodwise, the kale salad was super nice and fresh. We also tried the Tijuana nachos and hallumi fries - they were absolutely delicious. The place is super chill.
A good cafe with a wide array of cakes - they're to be seen to be believed! They also do freakshakes, would recommend the birthday cake one.
Only downside, we had to ask 3 times for one of our drinks and one of our other drinks never materialised.
Great food and service. Also a good spot to get a quiet drink or two. House lager is lovely.
Big fan of the take out cakes too. Well worth a visit
Amazing shakes! Big portion! Enough to give you energy for the whole day. Lovely staff. Nice outside sittings. Hope they had student discount.
Lovely location, bit more accessible from the other NQ one.
Food is amazing as I remember from years back. Chicken and waffles was monstrous in portion. Was probably a bit timid of me but I would have requested for a bit more of the luscious gravy.
Do not recommend for pre-movie meal. You might blackout from food coma.
Really enjoyed my breakfast here. Staff were friendly and provided a great service. Food was served reasonably quickly. Nice ambience and good to have a chat with company over breakfast. Prices are decent for what you get. Will be back here soon.
Visited here with a few friends after a meal at almost famous.. I have to say we only visited here for dessert and shakes... And have to say we weren't disappointed... They were lovely... The pancakes are the size of like 12" pizza easily can be shared between 2 people... The shakes are very thick and lovely...
What an awesome find!! Stumbled upon it and it had a nice inviting feeling. Great feel-right-at-home vibe, IIINCREDIBLE food (portions great) and friendly staff. Can’t wait to go back! Great coffee too :D
If you have a sweet tooth and love cake. You will love it here. They of course sell hot food too but I’ll recommend popping in just for deserts. Good place for a natter and cake
Visited with the family (8 of us) for brunch on Saturday. Great food, great service and great fun. Well done HSH!!
Amazing food and Shakes!! But most importantly the Tunes are absolutely smashing
A very nice place with plenty of seating space available. They also have an outdoor seating. The was great and good portions as well. Service was equally good. Drinks didn't take much time to arrive and neither did food. We went there for lunch and ordered chicken waffles, pancakes, burger, wrap, loaded fries and a drink each. We still had some leftover food.
A nice place with a good vibe unless you are looking for somewhere quiet. It does get pretty busy so it might be advisable to book for a table in advance. The food is as nice as unhealthy so unless you are ready for food sin...stay away.
