Great food with extremely friendly staff and a real family feel. This place never fails to impress. Traditional Nepalese food served in great portions and excellent attention to detail. This place has become a regular for our whole family over the years and we never tire of going. Keep up the fantastic work.
Great food, extremely accommodating, made my daughter her own main dish.
Founded some reading glasses for me as I'dforgotten mine. Plenty of food, delicious sauces, naan and rice, lamb was melt in the mouth gorgeous.
They had lots of time for us too. Sweet fellas
Thankyou, we will be back often.
Husband adores the mackerel dish.
We had a lovely evening celebrating a friends birthday The staff were fantastic even providing a cake & joined in singing Happy Birthday for a very special lady !
It’s a while since we were last at the Great Kathmandu & we were just as impressed as we’d always been with the beautiful authentic tasty food.
Already planning to visit again very soon.
I went to the great Kathmandu on Saturday night and really enjoyed my meal. The staff were super friendly and the food was really nice there was a slight delay but apparently they were three staff down but I could see they were trying there best to accommodate us. We will be back again 5 ✨
Amazing food!ive been coming for years and great service best curry house in Manchester!
The BEST restaurant in South Manchester for Nepalese and Indian style food. Plus the Dangol family always make you feel welcome! Would highly recommend!
Have been here many times over the years. Delicious, authentic Nepalese food. Fab service and the family who run it are lovely.
Very authentic Nepalese restaurant. I’ve been going there for years and it’s always been spot on for its authenticity. The Sag Gohst and makhan chara are hard to beat.. ‘lovely’ as they say in Nepal...
Absolutely gorgeous food! Beautifully cooked and very tasty. The staff are really friendly too. This was our first visit tonight but definatley won't be our last. Thank you!!!
First time I've ever been here, the atmosphere was amazing and the food was beyond words! Would recommend this to everyone and anyone! X
Food was tasty and different too one I go too recommend this place to any 1
Really great food and service. The managers are lovely people who really take their job seriously. Fab restaurant!
Great place great food. Highly recommended
Best in Manchester forget the rest food atmosphere and staff top notch can't fault anything
Tasty food, with attentive staff. Definitely worth a try!
Great food, great service and the lunch menu is very good value for money
Love the Katmandu
Friday night is GK night. As always, they asked if we had booked, as always we said no. As always, a table appeared within seconds, despite being the restaurant being packed. As always we were served with poppadoms and Kingfisher within in the blink of an eye. The head waiter now knows what we want to order, the menu is etched in my brain. Then the food came. A naan to feed a coachload, let alone just me. The curry, simply gorgeous. Maybe the best service in the world. They don't call it great for nothing.
Food was lovely! Service was good. Can't really complain was a great night out. Ordered two mains, 2 nans, 1 rice and 4 drinks between me and my partner which came to £39.00 without drinks only £26.00 super.
Really busy restaurant, service was a bit poor,we had to ask for our drinks and water a couple of times.the food certainly made up for it though.best curry I had in a long time.
Awesome. My favourite place to go for a curry. Quirky little place - great value too!
A regular visit is always in order! Anyone going there for the first time must try the chicken tandori karahi. When ever I go it is always busy. décor needs a bit of an update but feels cost and staff are very welcoming
Good, however given the vague description on the menu it was difficult to determine the Nepalese dishes from the Indian cuisine! However, a nice authentic feel and tasty, good food!!
We thought as well as the food there were a lot of nice touches that made our experience a little more special, from the somewhat chintzy but cute branded napkins waiting on our table as we came in to the super-hot moist towelettes at the end of the meal. The service was also excellent.
As I said in my previous review of The Great Kathmandu last year, I've been visiting this restaurant for about 20 years, more or less since it opened in the early 90's. It has been a constant in my life, whilst partners, friends and houses have all changed. In all that time I've been eating the same thing; the Makhan Chara - butter chicken.
I know it's been over a year since my last visit (I consulted my own blog, it's a good record for me as I have a terrible memory). So the Sunday night curry club reconvened for another session, this time on bank holiday Monday, post camping. I was looking forward to this one. After a quick drink in Volta, we went over. It was already half full early doors, we bagged a table by the window, a great place to watch west Didsbury folk walk by.
Ordered set meals B cost 27 pounds. Nan, pilabu rice, tandoori chicken, tikka, sheik kebab, lamb Rohan, butter chicken and veg gravy.
Except lamb gravy all are good. I think lamb gravy old one. Nan is very soft and taste good. Sheik kebab taste was very good.
Better to order individual items instead of set meal.
Cash, card and NFC payment are available. Parking little trouble here and it’s a main junction.
Staff are very polite and good in service.
The authenticity wow! The food surpassed all expectations, delivering an exceptional and genuine taste. Each dish reflected a masterful blend of flavours. A must visit for those craving an authentic and delightful meal. Will forever come back to this amazing place to eat!
We absolutely loved it!
The food was unbelievable and the price/quality ratio us really good (£40 for two people with 2 pints). The restaurant is always quite busy and the atmosphere is lively without being too loud. I highly recommend booking as you might not find a free table.
I will definitely be going back soon!
Very happy for the night out in this lovely place. The food just beautiful! if you love spicy you have to try 😋 the elder owner (not sure if he is the owner but seems like) walked to each table to make sure the customer are satisfied👍🏻
This genuinely caring definitely deserve 5 stars
Extremely tasty food, great atmosphere and attentive staff! Have come here a few times and tried different things on the menu each time and never been disappointed! Would highly recommend for an overall fantastic experience.
ARGUABLY THE BEST PESHWARI NAN EVER !
We dined at 6pm so it was still pretty quiet.
We got a warm welcome, a choice of tables, our water and drinks arrived quickly, and service was generally good.
Our food was freshly cooked, good portions and delicious but there was no taste or visible evidence of charcoal cooking, on the chicken and lamb tandoori.
It's still worth a visit for you to try yourself, especially if you're going to order a PESHWARI ❣️
Visited for Christmas eve with my parents. The food was delicious. Especially enjoyed the lamb tikka masalla and the poppadoms. Great touch to get Christmas Cracker's and lovely to see a family run place.
Amazing food and service.
Easy to see why they have won so many awards from national competitions.
Family run and very community focused.
Very tasty, well presented meals.
So good to experience Nepalese food.
The chef's special TANDOORI CHICKEN SHAK-SHU-KA (METHI) is delicious, The LAMB KARAHI and the peswari nan were very taste. Very popular even early evening.
Will definitely be back.
The sauces were beautifully judged, the meats were clearly good quality, no gristle, and cooked just right.
A great meal out for a treat.
Hands down some of the best food I’ve had since moving to Manchester a couple of years ago. The atmosphere is great, the place is busy and staff are exceptional. The restaurant has been operating for a long time, so they do what they do incredibly well, we shared several different courses which were all a massive step up from usual fare. Some really super Nepali dishes which were a revelation to me, you have to try Momos!!
Although the decor was not very nice the food was fantastic and the staff were really lovely. I would definitely recommend it.
Banging vegan food. As a large party we were served rapidly and the food was very tasty. Nice atmosphere and it was busy with locals which is a good sign as a visitor.
The Great Kathmandu in Didsbury is not just a restaurant; it's a gateway to experiencing the soul of Nepal through its cuisine. The Lamb Botwah and its accompaniments were not just food, but a celebration of flavors, textures, and the culinary artistry of Nepal. For anyone looking to explore the depths of Nepalese cuisine in a fine dining setting, this restaurant is a must-visit.
