Traditional English pub which is well worth a visit. I discovered this pub on the Reading Ale Trail. Visited twice now. Offering fine ales and delicious food. Thank you.

Really lovely venue. The Gin Festival was amazing - well set up, great food, friendly and helpful staff. Couldn't have asked for a better place for a gob festival.
Great food amazing atmosphere. Well reccomended. The staff were really friendly. And the pub is very well decorated. The food is amazing.
Absolutely wonderful! Just had the best meal I've eaten in a long time. Thank you and you're staff for your hospitality, Tom. We will definitely be back for more ale and food!
Just left after our first visit. The garden is fantastic and the play area kept our son fully entertained while we enjoyed a drink. Vegetarian selection was he best we've seen in a long time and was delicious too. Added to that our dog could join us and the staff were friendly. Couldn't have chosen a better place for a Sunday evening. Thank you
We were staying across the road in a b+b so called over there for dinner two nights running. Lovely real ales, guest beers great staff, service
And fab food. Highly recommend.
Great staff everyone made us feel welcomed. Great choice of Gin and Rum. Good food choice. Tastes great. Lovely oldy worldy pub with back garden.
Went Sunday evening and food was fabulous. Would highly recommend.
Perfect place - amazing food! Love it!! It was first time to visit it and now it is in my favorite's list! Thanks!!!!
Lovely pub, great menu and superb beers. I had Windsor & Eton Coldstream Bitter. Malty with an edge provided by the hops, but not too many. Nice garden for the rug rats with an old Massey Ferguson tractor for them to play on.
Great food, great choice and a beautiful country pub. Crackling fire gets you in the mood to cope with a British winter.
this is a friendly cosy traditional pub/restaurant with excellent fresh home cooked food and top attentive staff...

Hey! This place is nicely & warmly welcoming. The food is cooked right (beef) and portions are quite large balancing the price. The staff is polite and wouldn’t rush you, altogether in a family atmosphere. Large car park, large beer garden in the back along with some tables out in the front, large tables, large and clean toilets - so overall all quite ‘largely’ impressed. Give it a try!
Great Sunday roast with friends today. Lovely bar setting, roaring wood fire, lovely beer and very tasty food. Excellent options as well to cater for many tastes and requirements.
We asked for more gravy and Yorkshire puddings as well and they were provided promptly at no cost.
Recommended for Sunday roast if you find yourself nearby!
Fantastic pub atmosphere for all the family. I cannot recommend this place more highly. The atmosphere, service and food were all top notch.
The menu is clearly labelled for all food allergies which makes the experience seem less.
For those that are gluten free the options are plentiful and there is even a GF Yorkshire pudding.
Surprisingly or not the tractor provides endless joy for the kids.
Food here is amazing. The outdoor seating area is lovely with a nice view out over the fields, and the indoor area is cosy. It's usually pretty busy in weekends but the staff are all very efficient and friendly. Also makes a nice stop after a walk through caversham :)
A wild boar, pork and apple pie ! 🥧 Great service and super friendly staff. If you want 88 gins, this is the place. We will definitely take our dog next time. Will be our best pub in Reading !! 👏👏
Lovely little stop after walking the dog! Food was fantastic and tasted so nice!
Outside garden was great with lots of shade.
I've been a week ago in this lovely place with some colleagues from work.
I ordered one dish as a main course.
King Prawns & Chorizo Salad 😋
I have to say, the pics are no the best because under all those salads, I have a good bunch of prawns and delicious grill chorizo without fat.
However, the salad was a bit oiling on the bottom but very nice.
The prices are a bit higher but nothing unusual in Reading.
Cheers 🍻
It’s the second time eating here. I’m coeliac and the fish and chips . They are only done gluten free. Which is excellent. The only thing I would have liked is GF vinegar. But, If GF fish & chips is offered and they don’t have it, you can always use white wine vinegar. It honestly tastes so close you can’t tell the difference. Other than that it was excellent. The food and service.
The second pub we've visited from this chain and both were brilliant. Attentive and helpful staff. Good menu with loads of good GF options. Food is fantastic, absolutely delicious... Highly recommended. Would love to see some more local beers.
Nice pub with a nice country feel. The garden is great and the pub gives a warm welcome. We ordered a few nibble plates and fully recommend the whitebait (headless) also recommend the steak sandwich. My first dish had already gone so went for the burger. Taste was good but burger a little dry. The steak sandwich was blooming epic. Beer nice, friendly owners. Will go back but order something else.
We had a lovely lunchtime meal here with friends. There is plenty of parking. The food and service was excellent, the staff very friendly and there was a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. I'd rate the Packhorse as one of the better pubs in the area.
The staff were lovely and served the food promptly. The back area is lovely outside where you can see lots of wildlife while toy relax. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere and I felt very relaxed. The menu had lots of options which were gluten free.
What a lovely restaurant! The building is an architectural gem, well maintained with the old interior, lower ceiling, wooden floors, fire place and robust furniture. There is a beaufitul garden with many tables and both garden and pub is well maintained.
Warm and welcome staff.
The food was delicous and portion was very decent. I come here for a Sunday Roast it is one of the best I have ever had. As always you can choose which meat you want and this come with roasted potatos and carrots, steam green vegetable mix(beans, leek and cabbage), creamy celeriac puree, yorkshire pudding and gravy.
I can highly recommend this place!
Best pub food we've had in a long time, 4 completely different meals cooked perfectly. Staff were great and friendly, local bevvies and even the occasional dog walking event with a bacon roll. A real Beauty spot for those who love a country pub. And best of all, it was fully booked but not loud or crowded!
From door to door absolutely super. Had the roast dinners for 4 and superb in every way. Service, presentation and taste best we have had in a long time. Great atmosphere not rushed and wonderful surroundings. Just a great tonic in a relaxed evironment made the day special thank you to all the staff.
Big surprise to top it off was brilliant cost. Will be sure to return
The best steak and ale pie ever - a real whole pie with proper pastry all around, not the often served stew with a blob of puff pastry on top. There was a great atmosphere, friendly helpful staff and a log fire. Finally a warm pub! Would definitely recommend - oh and the Guinness was great!
A great lunch with a group of 28 from our Club. The food was super quality and served at the right temperature. The drinks were great and the beer fresh and cool! Great ambience and the service was from very attentive staffs who were polite and helpful. I would highly recommend this place. 👍👍👍
Impressed. Warm cosy atmosphere, with open fire place. Good fast service, and the food spot on. Beautiful presentation and tasted great.
