ORDERED: Lamb Shank: Braised lamb shank, Frenchmash, heirloom carrots, shiraz jus ($29.00) REVIEW: So, we came on a Wednesday night when they had the burger specials. Unfortunately you could still select the burger at full price on the main food tab (BTW THEY HAVE A completely DIFFERENT SPECIALS TAB), and the specials didn't register. So we ended up paying $24.00 for a burger when we could've had TWO for that price that night. When we realised the error of our ways, we hoped we could get two since we already paid... but the waiter behind the bar seemed aloof, unempathetic and adamant in not understanding/helping us out. Just a lot of "sorry I can't do that" "sorry no that's unfortunate" and looked extremely reluctant when we asked we could talk to his manager to see if we could get two burgers. Luckily, our bad 2/5 experience turned around when the head chef (@Kevin) overheard what was going on, and was able to to get two burgers for us... when we paid the price for 2. Thank you Kevin for understanding our plight! Aside from that mishap, the Oxford Scholar actually presented one of the best lamb shanks I've ever had. It's better than berth in docklands, with its hearty flavourful lamb shank, incredibly smooth mash potato, and there was a few surprises of crunchy kale leaves which made the texture and dish more exciting. Would actually recommend this dish, especially when Oxford Scholar is located at RMIT, close to MC station!

I f#cken love this place, it has a great vibe, awesome lighting, really well priced food AS WELL AS a student discount on already decent prices PLUS the food is always spot on, well presented and tastes f#cken amazing! Sorry I didnt take a photo earlier to show how good it looked, I was super hungry! The steak was super tender and tasted delicious with the mushroom gravy, not to mention the chips are the best I've ever had at a pub!

Walked past while headed to the tram station and came upon this gem. Lots of craft beers for those who love it as I do. Available in 3 sizes for beer on tap so u can order small one to try more! :)

Still a great place to catch up with mates, but its a no from me because it doesn't feel like a proper pub, feels more like a night club especially with the new thing where you can only order through a QR code. I get loads of people, particularly those around uni student age love clubs, but I'm more of a pub guy. Drinks from the bar, a bit of pokes or billiards and some good steaks, thats all I'm after.

This is always a great place. Good discount for RMIT students, and $9 pints wether or not you're a student. The food is alright, a bit expensive for what it is, but the drinks are a good price with a great atmosphere. Very much recommended

Had no idea this place was right across the street despite being at RMIT for 4 years. Good food and affordable drinks, even better if you're with rmit. Friendly staff and a very interesting kinect art installation.

Great service, kid friendly pub with good meals at reasonable prices. This is the second time that we came to the pub. The first time I totally forgot to take photos but we had a classic cheese burger and it was really good. It was a little on the smaller size. The chips are done in the same style as Schnitz so they were very delicious. For dessert, we had the sticky date pudding. The presentation was great but for me, sticky date needs ice cream or cream to offset the sweetness. It was still good though. This time around we had the steak and the oven baked fish. There was an earlier review that had mentioned that the gravy was runny. While this is true, it still tastes ok. Note that the steak only comes with pepper sauce. Sadly the oven baked fish was a bit small for the price but it still tasted good. The fish itself was a size fillet just the rest of the sides were on the small side. I have to give special mention to the service. Both times that I have received exceptional service even though I had my son in tow. Today our meals were running a little late and the bartender was kind enough to come out and give us an update. The ambiance and space is quite nice. I remember what the pub was like before the renovation and this is a huge improvement. On Saturday nights, they are usually playing the best of the 90s and 00s music. Finally I need to mention that while the pub is child friendly, it is not baby friendly. I didn't see any baby chairs but if your child is old enough to sit on a normal chair, you will be fine. I recommend this pub for anyone looking for a good comfortable setting and good food. We will be back.
