Overall quality of the food: beautiful. Dessert had a bit too much custard on that my cake got soggy but will probably ask for less next time. Do suggest having table numbers or table service when a rush is on so the croud at the bar wouldn't be so shoulder to shoulder and stressy for the staff. Atmosphere was a little too loud so warning for people with sensory issues or hard of hearing. Food: Smaller appetite gammon with salad.

The whole pub was very busy but the staff coped admirably. Proper home cooked grub and simple sweets just like I remember from school dinners (but I am old lol). The staff are all so friendly. Loved it as the buzz of Christmas is building.

Absolutely the best veggie parmos in the area. The food is really really good. Proper homemade stuff. Chips are unbelievable. Kids portions are really good, and great value.

Really good meal here last night, the host Jo was extra good and found us a seat even though it was fully booked, the food was good and portion sizes massive, I went for the OMG hot chicken parmesan with home cut chips, it was massive πŸ˜‚ enough to feed 2 people which for the price was really good value, I also ordered some garlic bread which was nice and rhubard sponge with custard for desert (always room for desert), the atmosphere in the pub was nice and friendly and the staff were attentive and polite, overall it was a really good experience and if I lived locally I'd be there all the time 😁 I would highly recommend a visit if your looking for a good hearty pub lunch/dinner or if your just wanting a drink or 2 πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Just dropped in for tea with the kids. Took the dog as well. Really nice food and all the staff were very friendly. The meals were a good size, with drinks and all this for Β£30!!! Brilliant. Highly recommended.

Had the Sunday lunch - food was delicious and came really quickly. Felt like a busy pub with a good atmosphere. One of the bar staff was a bit rude unnecessarily as we'd ordered a takeaway but not stayed at our table. Prices were reasonable too.

Couldn't fault the food or bar staff. (Proper local lot, with local dialect) πŸ€£πŸ˜‚. The parmo had plenty of jalapenos on, and the chips. Just one word. SUPERB. I'd go back and just order a massive plate of chips and slab of butter and bread. Dowey is a good landlord. One downside to the night, prat customer made his mouth go. But don't take anything from the pub. Absolutely superb. I'll definitely be going again. Good old fashioned pub and food. Thank you

This was a great place to go and eat. Went with 2 other people and we all enjoyed our meals. Even though it was chocca block the staff were so cool under pressure and had a smile on their faces. We booked up again for next week. πŸ˜‹πŸ˜€ Would highly recommend mince and dumpling

Unsure how original post appeared as I believe The Gables to be 5 star. It is my regular go to for my Sunday lunch which is good old fashioned home cooked food. The choice is roasts only cooked to perfection with masses of freshly cooked veg, boat load of the best pub gravy ever with more if requested, proper accompaniments of sauces if asked for, mustard. horseradish, mint sauce etc. Unlike other eateries that use the extremely sad and tasteless sachets of the same that you can never get into and are so bland they have no place with a decent meal. The whole staff are very good and the service is excellent. You can always be sure to find many returning customers like myself who know what they want and know they will find it here. Was there again last Sunday and for many more before and will continue to go for the foreseeable future.
