Called in by chance after a recommendation & were welcomed by the owners as if we were family! Had a couple of wonderfully cooked steaks. Really could not fault any of it. Well worth a try! Next time I'll make sure I'm not driving so I can try some of that nice beer! Until then... Cheers!

With the usual last minute booking we seem to do, Nick and the staff accomodated us with the usual 'no problems, c u later' - we ordered pheasant pie and a haggis and neeps dish - the pie is stupendous and will fill any appetite and the suet style pastry is as light as can be. My dish was haggis layered with neeps and potatoes served with a whisky gravy - a light dish with delicate flavours and a nice twist on an age old dish - unfortunately we couldnt fit a pudding in

Only the second time to The Punch Bowl with great friends last weekend but we once again left with the same impression. Wonderful place and wonderful people. We arrived with great friends and left with even more, what more can we ask after a 6000 mile journey? Seriously wonderful welcome and fantastic dinner, I had the best gammon I've ever tasted and the family also provided some fantastic Beckstones craft real cask ale. Very welcome sight and taste of a beautiful Mild Ale and the Rev-Rob was a serious compliment to that succulent gammon. Many thanks to all on either side of the bar and kitchen. We'll be back!!!

A proper village pub serving very good food. Steaks & burgers seem particularly popular. Some South African items on the menu which is rather unique. Friendly and attentive staff.

We went in for a celebratory meal out on our 28th Wedding Anniversary. As ale drinkers, we were happy with the bar offering and set too with a couple of pints of Wainwright’s which were very nice, clearly well looked after in the cellar and nicely served. (Yes, I’m an ex Publican!). Although the pub wasn’t so busy when we arrived, we were offered a choice of a couple of tables to eat at as there were lots of pre booked tables reserved for later in the evening. So having sat down and perused the menu, we both went for the Steak. I went for a 300g rump with the addition of ribs, wife had surf and turf. Both steaks were interestingly served, with the obligatory chips and onion rings and were good cuts, lean and tasty. I ordered mine rare as I’m quite fussy about overcooked steak, and it came out just about rare enough. Wife ordered medium rare which to be honest was a bit overdone, but the ‘Surf’ were amazing (apparently. I don’t do prawns!) So, great beer, great food, why not five stars? Well, it’s a really small thing but makes a huge difference to me. The management have embraced energy efficient lighting throughout the pub which is great, but have installed lamps that emit a really stark white light that gave quite a clinical feel to the place. (Imagine the light you’d get from a fluorescent tube, it reminded me of a 70’s working man’s club vibe) If they had gone for a warm white combined with amber it would make for a far more inviting atmosphere. All that said, would the lighting prevent me from returning? With food and service as good as that, hell no! I’ll just wear my shades next time 😎

Very accommodating. Had reservations at first if this place would be suitable for my two kids. This was put to bed once I messaged the establishment. Was basically told "we will sort you out". This promise was fulfilled. I had a massive steak cooked perfectly as requested med rare. My wife had the same. Son had the same but smaller portion. Then they created a sausage and mash for our daughter from their menu. All left happy and full. If I was in area again soon I would be back. Friendly and tasty food.

Busy and we hadn't booked, but they found a table for us. Service was excellent, staff fantastic and the food should've cost more. Good choice of everything. Will go again and remember to book 👍

Brilliant pub. We were travelling in the area and decided to contact the pub to see if we could get a Sunday roast as a takeaway. I’m so happy with the customer service. The gentleman that took my order called me when the food was ready to collect. The food was outstanding. It was so delicious. Everything was packaged nicely and we had so much food we struggled eating everything. Worth every penny. If we visit the area again we will be sure to come back to this pub. Thanks so much.

This place might not look up to much from the outside but step inside and you are warmly greeted by the staff and a very clean pub. The meal we had was nothing less than outstanding. Best ribeye steak we have had in ages. Everything was imply perfect. Friendly staff and locals. Great beer as well! Highly recommended.

As what seems to be the norm in the north of England, the service was really so friendly and welcoming. Food great as well. If you've got kids the playground over the road is excellent.

Following a spur of the moment booking of dinner for four I was surprised how busy this little out of the way hostelry was on a Tuesday. Having said that, there were not many eating so the booking wasn’t really necessary. Our order for drinks was taken promptly followed a few minutes later by our food order, very efficiently and politely done. We all enjoyed our meals and couldn’t find anything that was wrong with them. Good kitchen obviously. Will return sometime.

After a long day in the sun they sat the 8 of us at short notice and were very welcoming. The food was fantastic and the kids menu was great. All the food was locally sourced and the limited menu felt personal to the chef. Even the children's chicken nuggets were handmade. The portions and the hospitality were both more than generous. Well worth a visit.

Absolutely lovely local free house, with a great team who went the extra mile to firstly sort a table for us and then provide a delicious meal for my partner who is gluten intolerant and pescatarian (just to make things tricky!). We also sat in the garden with our dog and a few beers/ciders the previous night. Lovely place that is deservedly busy...book ahead!
