I love this place. Great spot to have lunch in after a hike, or in my case, dessert. Very close to the railway station in the Torrs Vale gorge. Lovely to see this old mill restored for use in this way. The coffee is excellent as is the food. Good selection of gins too. And the staff are very friendly.
Wonderful place! Great location, right on the river. Super setting, in an old industrial mill. Locally sourced ingredients for the burgers and calzone, which are really delicious. I'm a 'senior', so the burger is just right for my appetite, but my son always has the extra patty and cheese, as he exercises a lot. Prices are very reasonable given the setting and quality. I noticed during the last visit that the chip portion with the burger was definitely smaller, but, perhaps, due to current economics, it's either that or price rises. But there weren't enough, really. However, that's a small point, and the Shrub Club has become a regular for us. Great countryside to do a river/canal walk, with fantastic views, and finish off with a Shrub Club meal. Perfect! 👍 😋👌
This place is a local little gem! We visit The Shrub Club regularly for lunch or a just a coffee and the quality of food and drinks together with the service is always excellent. The team are helpful and friendly but today a lovely young lady called Britney went well above and beyond to help when I had a fall on a walk and suspected I had broken my wrist. Britney was genuinely caring and helped by providing cold compresses and directions to my hubby when he couldn't find his way to collect me by car . In addition to this, the whole team are extremely dog friendly and always make you feel welcome and comfortable. Their coffee is the best you will find too!
A regular spot of mine, especially as a pit stop mid bike ride. Excellent scenery and great selection of beers, the Pardal in a frozen glass is my particular favourite.
2 incredible discoveries in 2 days! One… the town of New Mills… only stopped there to change trains from Sheffield to Buxton… ended up planning to spend time in New Mills on the way back as it looked so dramatic.
Serendipitously walking down some hidden steps after the bridge we noticed this awesome ( literally awesome ) terrace with people drinking on it. With a GMaps intervention we pinned it down and followed the route … via the wonderful path and millennium bridge over to the old Mill and reassuring signs for Shrub Club.
Upon arrival through semi ruined relics of industrialisation we entered the terrace day dreams are made of.
A large square table was thankfully free and we seated ourselves ( as directed by the reassuringly hand made sign ). Said sign also instructed to grab your own menu and order at the bar. I like this, reduces waiting and gives a more relaxed bar vibe than formal restaurant.
In I went into a beautifully rendered interior, with original stone walls painted white, punctuated with greenery from various plants… original beams and wooden floors … original warehouse windows viewed the epic gorge that you can see from the terrace in full glory.
Ordered 2 beers of the CZech variety ( because hot day else I may’ve tried the local ales on offer )… and was impressed that they had lovely glasses, frosted from the freezer. Only in Greece have I seen such class of glass before.
Sitting with that beer on the terrace, enjoying the vista and gorgeous white noise from the flowing river Goyt was a highlight of my trip to England. This is what I love and live for, these moments of awe, and joy of relaxed social comfort. Among other things.
An interesting menu made it hard to choose… do we want a burger or one of these tapas sized plates ? We went for a mix…
The “small” beef stew and potatoes plus cheese dish was actually quite large and very tasty, especially the slow cooked peppers and tomatoe off setting the richness of cheese and beef.
A Middle Eastern lamb Kebab with accompanying things was very good, but considering it was a main, surprisingly small compared to the cheaper “small plate “.
The prawn bloody Marie was a fun concept and tasty enough , maybe coulda been a bit more tobasco but otherwise very good.
Back inside for desert ordering I noticed the psychedelic bottles of rum and upon enquiry it turned out to be the owners’ business and had recently been featured on a famous business pitching tv show ( which we later found on iPlayer hoping he’d mention the New Mills or Shrub Club but alas ).
Anyway we stayed longer than intended and enjoyed further beers and I tried an ale which was excellent and again served well.
A stealth fresh mint tea was our finale to calm down and head towards the train station back home …
What an amazing place, I hope it will remain so when I get back… I fear it will be v popular at weekends and you could be disappointed not to get a seat at the terrace but Tuesday afternoon was ideal, a steady stream of people but not over crowded.
Shrub Club firmly favourited !
Lovely Bar and food, friendly staff, great location convenient for walks along the River Goyt and Millennium Way and surrounding area.
After stopping by here for drinks before a dinner reservation elsewhere, we decided to come back the next day for lunch as they had a gluten free option for their burger and also a gluten free dessert!
We loved the atmosphere (lovely and warm too) and my husband was impressed with the beer selection on offer.
The food portion sizes are small, but a good size for a regular lunch and left room to share a dessert.
Good taste to the burger and the chips were really nice. Vanilla ice cream with gluten free chocolate brownie, honeycomb and toffee sauce was great to finish it off.
We don’t have a dog, or kids yet, but the place seems to cope with both very well and it all just seemed very friendly and relaxed, staff always around to help too.
This place is a little gem. When out for a Sunday funday dog walk to millennium bridge in New mills and spotted this place in the old mill. Atmosphere, drinks, amazing staff and the over all uniqueness makes this a must go destination. Dog friendly with an amazing resident dog sat in his throne in the window. Can wait till they start serving food soon. I rarely leave reviews but definitely needed for this place.
What a little gem of a place.
Great food, filling food, gorgeous food, ice cold beer, great views, brilliant staff.
Will be back soon and will be telling all my friends about it.
Great little bar right next to the Millennium Walkway in New Mills. Excellent selection of beers, cheese, chocolate and cake in the shop next door. A real shot in the arm for New Mills!
We went here for a few drinks on Friday night. It was reasonably busy with a good buzz. We had a couple of local beers from Torrside brewery and a cocktail to finish. The Shrub Club has a great feel inside that's different to other places in New Mills. I'm a lover of house plants and true to its name there were a lots of real plants dotted around the place 🌱💚. For all you canines reading this review, It's a dog friendly place 🐾 and you'll be welcomed. We'll be back.
Fantastic. Staff are excellent. Food is great. Extensive beer (5 on tap) & beverage options. Thoughtful, interesting menu. Lovely location. Interior decor is pleasant. Loved this place and will return. A lot of thought and work has gone in.
*only gripe is the paper (better than plastic) straws covered in gold ink that comes off in drink and mouth - please use chemical free, reusable straws*
Great find, lovely bar situated in part of the Torr Mill. We visited twice during our short stay in New Mills. Lovely food and great service. Fantastic selection of beers, wines and spirits too. I had the calzone with a weisse beer or two, but noted the large selection of beers etc.. we're excellent. During the daytime after a walk along the river Goyt, we stopped off for a tea and coffee and cake.Again lovely staff, great vibe and dog friendly too.
Love the burgers here, and the atmosphere. So had my birthday party here and it was great. With all kudos to Matt the chef for the lovely food and Britney for an epic job of keeping everything organised and looking after us so well all night.
Fabulous place to stop for a coffee or a meal . Lovely food and drink and hosts most welcoming well done !
Cosy bar situated in the old mill buildings at New Mills, serving craft beers from Torrside Brewing, Italian lagers and a selection of cocktails and spirits. The vintage industrial décor is softened by a large number of potted plants (hence the name)! Burgers and Calzone pizzas are available. Fantastic venue in unique surroundings!
Lovely place situated in one of the old mills, friendly and welcoming staff along with some very tasty mocktails and brownie!
