Lovely atmosphere with huge tea menu, excellent presentation and wonderful staff. Owner Yoshi is very cheerful. Code for downstairs toilet at counter. Independant disabled access would be a huge plus, as the cafe is only reachable by stairs, which are steep and narrow.
Wow! A tea lovers paradise! The British think of themselves as a nation of tea drinkers which in reality means they drink PG Tips with milk and sugar. For real Tea Heads this place is a truly stunning experience. The selection of teas is wide ranging and well curated and the chinese tea cones Gong Fu Cha style. I tried a delightful for Pu’er Shu and enjoyed a peanut butter cheesecake. Wish I could spend more time here! Don’t miss the opportunity to spend some time here :)

WHAT I HAD: Lentil, carrot and spinach soup served with bread and homemade hummus [£4.80]; Matcha, green tea and strawberry cake [£3.00]; Chocolate and Blue Peaflower Cake [£3.00]
We were aimlessly wandering around the city centre to kill time before our movie, and I was feeling a bit peckish. I saw that Tea Sutra was in the area on Happy Cow and we went there as my friends loved good tea as well.
We each ordered a pot of tea, and I had the Soup of the day (Lentil, carrot and spinach) that was served with bread and hummus. The soup really hit the spot! It was hearty, thick and well-seasoned with some spices too! The homemade hummus was delicious as well. It made for a very satisfying meal that was cheap for what you get! Of course, I couldn’t resist getting trying the Vegan Cakes. I had the Chocolate & Blue Peaflower Cake and takeaway a Matcha, green tea & strawberry cake. Both cakes were divine, definitely one of the best vegan cakes I’ve had – great spongey and moist cake texture (that was similar to any non-Vegan cake, not dense or too moist like most vegan cakes). The Chocolate and Blue Peaflower cake was chocolatey with some freshness and fragrance from the peaflower in the frosting. I absolutely loved the matcha, green tea & strawberry cake – they weren’t afraid: very bold matcha green tea flavour that was complimented by the juiciness and tartness of the strawberry.
Tea Sutra has quite a hippie vibe, with Asian tea house and middle-eastern décor. There is even an area where you sit on cushions (have to take off your shoes). It provides a calm and warm atmosphere. The place is quite spacious too. The service was a bit slow (my soup took quite a while to come even though it wasn’t busy), but the staff are friendly and helpful – the waiter was very patient in answering our questions about the different teas they offer. Oh yes, they have a WIDE tea selection of various types and country origins. Evidently, they are very passionate about their tea, so they do take a while to get your tea ready. We were given hourglasses when tea was served for optimal tea steeping times. So, it is probably not a place to go if you’re in a hurry (unless you just want to grab one of their divine vegan cakes!).
YES! I definitely recommend Tea Sutra for a nice chill and calm place to take your time and relax over good tea, hearty and healthy food and delicious vegan cakes. A great place to hang out and enjoy on your own and also with friends!

Great place, the interior is very cosy and clean. The staff is friendly although there were only 2 persons working when we went and it was quite busy so it took a while to get our order. I had the Arabian nights tea (very fruity but not too sweet) along side vanilla & chocolate cheesecake and both were simply delicious so it was worth the wait.
My favourite place to go to unwind with so many beautiful tea selections and really tasty vegan treats. A really lovely place to relax :)
I could not rate this place highly enough!!! The owner clearly has a vision for Tea Sutra and it is a joy seeing it realised. I’ve never had a bad meal, I’ve never had bad service or bad tea! The food is absolutely delicious! Healthy, balanced and tasty.
The changing menu means there is always something new to try food-wise. The tea menu is expansive and comprehensive, with lots of options for all palets. I love the chai of the day, and the fruit teas which you can have iced!
The atmosphere is also amazing. Beautiful and tranquil, a great place to visit. A hidden gem in Newcastle if you ask me!
The best tea house in town. Lovely atmosphere. Great selection. Always a positive experience.
An oasis of delightful tea and calm in the heart of Newcastle!
Vegetarian and vegan food, LGBT+ friendly, a welcoming and beautifully decorated space - what isn't to love?
A charming tea house with a extensive range of teas . Each type is brought in the appropriate pot . The vibe is very relaxed and non commercial . I had a Japanese green tea which was delicious ! Lovely customer service
Tasty healthy food, unreal selection of teas and infusions - never seen so many varieties! Nice spot to chill, has a pleasing calm vibe to the place and the staff are friendly. Only slight negative was the lack of cold drink choices, the elderflower cordial I had was superb though. 🙂
