Love this pub, brilliant to people watch down below on the street if you can get a window seat
Andrew Pound
Great place never the same each time we visit
Dominic Bromley
Nice upmarket cocktail bar in the centre of Newcastle. Drinks are a bit more expensive here but the atmosphere is class and service is friendly and welcoming.
Christopher
Great views. Beers could be better but pleasent enough.

Loved the decor and design, music just right volume, both nights been here, Friday and Tuesday, very reasonable prices, especially my double vodkas! Barman was friendly and communication good, love the historic pictures also, comfy leather back seating, Kudos to the barman ( Brad ) even when somebody was looking for a specific Ale, he told them where they could find those ales in town, lovely.

Always a good pint in here. Their house red wine is also recommended. Reasonable prices aswell. It's good when you manage to get a window seat so you can 'people watch' around the monument below.

It is what it is! Nice few relaxed quiet pints before and after the match never nee doylums in I like it! I see people whinging about prices of drinks!! Well go to the garter or clock if your looking for cheap drinks! Personally I'll just stick with Charles grey it's easier for a few coppers more

The window tables overlooking Monument are the best people watching vantage points in the city. Good booze selection - the happy hour cocktails are definitely worth a look.
Be aware that the entrance is up several flights of stairs.

Only been in here for a drink. Friendly enough atmosphere. Great window views of the monument. Food looked good. A lot of stairs to climb, not sure if there is a lift.

Lovely pub. Nice atmosphere. Attentive staff. Busy, but plenty space to stand until a table becomes available.
Jo Dunn
Fab pub if you don't mind four flights of stairs to get up there! Great staff. Good atmosphere.
Ryan Shaw
Great bar in the center for a drink, staff are friendly, drinks are done well. What you see is what you get, could do with a refurb.
Mark the barman is brilliant though, really made our time there. Great laugh.

Was quiet when I visited. Nice view of the street for people watching. Bit of a climb upstairs. Seating over 2 levels. Beer was OK, not much choice of real ales though. .

Called there yesterday had the worst pint of larger I have ever tasted when you pay top dollar for a it should be right it had no life in it flat and very watery and when I took it back they asked what was wrong with it they changed it for another pint of flat watery larger I won’t be going back to that pub when you can go round the corner to a pub where the beer is much cheaper and better

Had a meal and the meal came first before the cuttlery which was a bit odd. So then had to wait twice for the staff to go downstairs to get cuttlery after our meal had been bought upstairs and then again to get a choice of sauce and the salt, so a bit unorganised... Maybe you could think about getting condiment and cuttlery holders to keep on the tables so meals arent going cold, waiting. Lovely meal though.

In an excellent location for watching the comings and goings on the Monument. The drinks are a bit pricey and the benches in the window a bit hard but overall a nice place to have a few drinks of an afternoon.

Was so disappointed tonight! Got there Just before 7. Ordered 2 cocktails and a pint. PAID! Got to the table, cleared it, went to bathroom to wet napkins, wiped the table. Picked what we wanted from menu. Got to the bar, ( 6 staff behind it including manager)ordered food, got told kitchen might be closed... Got confirmation it was closed indeed! Manager disappeared by then, so member of staff had to explain how food usually served till 8, but because it was covering manager- he decided to shut kitchen 7 even though all menus still out... If we'd know- we wouldn't bother with drinks.
Mind, yous are risking turning decent place into right dump if you don't get your finger out, it's all about consistency and customer satisfaction... Such a shame

horrible food, watered down beer and the managers way of treating customers absolutely disgusting. I would never recommend anyone to ever purchase anything from this place.

I would not advise anybody to eat at this pub. They serve cold food and charge an extra £2 to trade fries up to scabby French fries due to menu being worded wrong I will definitely not be returning here again . We also waited nearly 40 minutes for food to arrive. Disgusting as well as the manager having poor customer service skills. We Spent over £40 in this pub for disgusting food

Visited on the 20th December for a quick drink before going to the theatre. Got served straight away. Pleasant staff. Place could do with a revamp as it looks old and run down but other than that we had no complaints
Julie J. Laws
The kitchen was closed so no food was available but that didn't affect us as we had reservations elsewhere. Seemed to wait ages for a hot chocolate but it was lovely when I got it.
Shirlie Whitfield
Absolutely appalling standard of food, not sure if the chef was having a bad day but food came raw. Not happy with the attitude of certain staff and the establishment...

We go to Newcastle xmas shopping every year.. We have been going to The Charles Grey for the past few yrs.. We went yesterday the 5th Dec.. Don't know if its changed hands.. But we were all totally discusted.!!! Meal cold.!!! They only brought 1/2 of meal.!! By the time they brought the other 1/2 the 1st half was ruined.!! We left most of it... We will be looking for somewhere else next yr for our xmas shopping lunch..!!!

Cheap place, dated decor and minging toilets yet staff are friendly and a good range of drinks
Karen Murphy
Bottle of prosecco bought.. Handed to me at bar warm without the Cork removed.. When I asked for ice I was given a ridiculous green plastic 'rugby' bucket for chilling bottles of beer....
This pub is definitely not worthy of it's elegant location! Charles Grey would be turning in his grave!
Dennis Menace Harrison
Great location for watching the Newcastle life pass by... Oldy worldie. Decor which is charming and interesting.. I was here on a week nite.. And the lad behind the bar was charmless and less the motivated in service and glass collecting or wiping down the grubby tables.. Which is a shame as it spoilt my visit
Francesco Castellani
Good place, good atmosphere and good location. But that's it. I expected to find a huge choice of real ales, both on tap and bottled. We ordered two Newcastle Brown Ale bottles, but it was just for the sake of tasting it, having just relocated to this town. This place has lots to do to improve.
