Review Royal Oak - Newport -Trefdraeth

Very good place very underrated on Google by people who expected 5 star service from a local pub. By the way the food is very tasty, the place is open all day all week when other restaurants are closed. Here lives welsh soul of Newport people, you can hear Welsh language and taste Welsh food. The staff also is very friendly. We stayed in Newport one week and there was no question to try another place for dinner.

Was in the local area looking at the Burial Chambers. Went into Newport looking for somewhere to eat.( Monday lunchtime) Royal Oak had a board outside "food served all day". Once inside was informed smaller menu, lighter lunch meals. I ordered the whitebait, c/w salad, coleslaw, bread and butter, wife had quiche, c/w salad, chips, coleslaw. Thought not going to be enough for me, so I ordered a side dish of chips. When they brought the food to table I thought that was a mistake ordering the chips. Food was excellent, service was excellent, portions was very big, ( didn't quite eat all the chips) prices was very good, will definitely eat there again if in the area.

I chanced upon this lovely little place after getting incredibly wet on my motorbike tour of Wales. I was in need of a friendly face, great service, great coffee and great food and I got all four. The lady behind the bar was very welcoming and helpful. The coffee was great and the food was amazing! What a cracking little place this is.

We visited today for a Sunday lunch, it was very busy but we were quickly shown a table. We ordered & paid for our drinks and meals & waited.....& waited. There was no indication from the staff of how long the waiting time was.... However when our meals arrived they were lovely, we decided to order a dessert, but for the price the portions were tiny. If the kitchen can't keep up with the orders coming through then communicate with your front of house staff who can then keep customers informed & maybe explain the waiting time when guests wish to order meals. I would like to commend Alison, this lady was here, there & everywhere, sorting takeaway mix ups, calming waiting guests, serving both food & drinks & clearing tables. The other lady too (sorry didn't get your name) was busy serving drinks & keeping the bar area clean, as for the two young lads we saw.....come on at least smile while delivering food & pick up the pace a little. Being in hospitality myself I know communication is the key to a smooth shift, remember happy staff, happy customers! Thank You, we will be back!!

We ate here on Thursday evening and despite a little wait for the food, due to them being very busy, it was well worth it, delicious food, proper plate fulls, great portion sizes. 2 x adults and 2 x children very well fed. 👍 Definitely recommend.

Happened upon this pub while travelling, serving food all day; simple menu, really nicely served and presented, very tasty. Family friendly, our two littles were very happy and shared an adults jacket potato and beans. Without asking they brought out two little bowls and spoons. High chair was actually good, safe and usable. Pub clean, fresh and a nice place to eat . Big carpark at rear. Also noticed they had pancakes on their menu (lemon and sugar or syrup) for pudding which is a nice simple change from the norm.

Popped in for lunch and pleased we did. Lunch menu looked limited but food was excellent, large portions everything fresh and tasty and excellent value. Lady serving, although busy, was attentive, nothing too much trouble. We will be back.

Lovely atmosphere in a superb Village pub, Sunday Lunch was served right on time by great staff, at an extremely pocket appreciative cost. Will definitely be revisiting sometime soon. The food was excellent in quality, plentiful in amount and pipping hot, a great experience.

It’s the second time visiting this pub. Lovely place and good selection of drink and food. For us though it’s Alison who works there had us coming back. She’s definitely an asset to the pub and great company ❤️

Last resort on a late evening. So pleased with the proprietor, who was so welcoming and checked with the chef as to whether it was too late. We did not feel hurried, and the food was great.

Just had a takeaway curry from here - really tasty and generous portions. The chicken and mushroom balti was spicy enough to keep me happy and the king prawn korma was not the normal saccharine goop, but really well flavoured and full of juicy prawns. Very pleasant girl behind the bar. If they let dogs in we would probably eat there most days of our holiday, but quite understand that the no dog rule is probably a bonus for some.

They do a excellent curry. Be aware they are not for the faint hearted. Lovely pub.

Broccoli cheese bake was fantastic, as was potato leek soup. Dessert with chocolate sponge, vanilla ice cream, and fudge sauce was to die for. Friendly staff. Definitely recommend.

Went here last Sunday for a meal and it was lovely. The place itself is a little traditional pub. The bar man was very helpful and friendly and the service was excellent. The food was made quickly and was very nice. The portion sizes are also big and good value for money.

We ordered a take away as we have done many times before. I was very disappointed with the fish platter, which I have had eat in and takeaway many times , it had numerous whitebait, two mussels, two goujons, one scampi, and two prawns. Not the same quantity or ingredients as I have had in the past very overpriced at nearly £22.00 . As We live locally I will be calling in to tell them as well as this post.

As a (local) family, we've never had a bad meal here in years. We go for Sunday lunch as often as possible and the cauliflower cheese is the best EVER. Staff are always welcoming and can't do enough. A lovely cosy vibe in the small top bar, more lively for families with children in the main bar.

Just had the worst Sunday meal and service ever at the Royal Oak Newport. An hour and a half wait after ordering first half of the meals came. After complaining the remainder of the meals came. Then what they called the vegetables, (lots of cauliflower and fried onions as they had obviously run out of everything else. My dads roast chicken tasted of curry and my daughters chicken korma had one piece of chicken in it. I would have complained more but was so starving and irritated I may have lost it!! Will never return. Horrible.
