Great Food and Awesome Accommodations and the best part is all the local Dogs in the Pub! Our kind of place! We are from Washington, DC and would recommend the Golden Lion Hotel to everyone!
Visited on Saturday 8th July, couldn't book a table but managed to get a table in the bar. Had a lovely meal, fish & chips and a Thai green curry. Both were very tasty, piping hot served with a smile. The bar and wait staff were very friendly and courteous. I round highly recommend this place.
We have visited 4 times this week and eaten each time. Each and every time the service has been superb, by every member of the team we encountered. The management should be very proud of the team they have. The food is fantastic too. The biggest fish and chips we've ever had. The food has been cooked perfectly and of excellent quality each time. We wouldn't hesitate on returning if back in the area again.
I never leave reviews but this one deserved one. Amazing pub, fantastic food, dog friendly and the bonus of a warming, sheltered beer garden. Hats off to management, staff & the kitchen team. A true testament to the charm the area offers :)
Just about the best burger I've ever tasted. Even the chips were just glorious. Stopped on the off chance as it looked busy, even on a Monday, but we were found a table quickly. Service was excellent and prompt. Lovely to see so many dogs in the bar too. Amazing
I have no hesitation in giving this pub 5 stars, even though we haven’t (yet) eaten there. The bar staff are brilliant and go the extra mile, the bar is very comfortable, and the pub welcomes dogs. Superb!
This pub/restaurant came up when searching for somewhere to eat near where we were staying in Newport, it seemed to have excellent reviews so we decided to book a table. The food was delicious and staff are friendly and attentive without being invasive. As it was such a lovely meal we decided to book a table again for our last evening and were equally happy with our meal.
Delicious food, I recommend the Chicken Kiev burger! 😋 lovely glass of 🍷 a at very reasonable price.
I stayed for one night, the room was extremely clean and very comfortable but the best was still to come….the breakfast was the best I have ever had!
Avocado, tomato, mushrooms and a poached egg on toast, every mouthful was divine and the staff were the best I have come across!

We went to The Golden Lion for a meal on Sunday evening in the Restaurant .
The service and food were both excellent . From the lovely waitress, to the Barman who thanked us for coming on our way out, everyone was very helpful and friendly .
The meal was tasty and freshly cooked and beautifully presented . We were so impressed that we went back and purchased a voucher as a present for a friend . Highly recommended.
A very delightful pub. Popped in on the off chance for a meal and found the staff to be very helpful and accommodating.

Only ate here. Didn't stay. Found the atmosphere and food really lovely. Like a proper pub but clean and modern.
Good quality and well presented. Menu was interesting with a good range of options. Could have chosen a few things. Had the hake which was very pleasant. Desserts were very good!
Staff were friendly and engaged making conversation in a nice way. Dog friendly in the bar.
Sharing thoughts on the pub and restaurant, we dined at both. Though menu is the same for the pub and restaurant, we had a better experience at the pub. The restaurant was excellent of course but we got a better flavor for the area by dining in the pub with the locals. There are some real characters in the pub and it was fun to people watch and to hear the Welsh language spoken.
Anyway, great experience and I have to say that the Eton Mess is one of the best deserts ever! If I had to pick flaws it would be with the beers on tap and the wine list, more and different would be good. Wines are reasonably priced.
Also, book in advance, before you have left home!
