I have celiac and was anxious about eating here, however after a phone call to get information and being told of their gluten free menu I felt less anxious. On the day I ordered the fish pie and not only was the staff aware of me being gluten free before I had to specify but the food was absolutely amazing. The best I've ever had at any place! Finished the meal with the apple pie which was just the best dessert I've ever had anywhere and it was so amazing to see a dessert like that be gluten free! Most places have ice cream and maybe a brownie, so it was a great change of pace. Also the menu was clearly marked which was great! The staff were also more than happy to help out with getting me a wheelchair friendly table, and did everything they could to keep everything comfortable and safe!

Fantastic hotel, the room I was in was spotlessly clean but could do with a freshen up but that's a personal opinion.
The food in the restaurant was fantastic and very reasonably priced.
From the moment I arrived the staff were really friendly and made you feel at home.
I was there for work and hope the company sends me back again.
Located in the heart of the town with limited parking at the front but a massive private car park at the rear you won't struggle to find somewhere to ditch the car because this town deserves to be seen on foot and the Golden Lion Hotel is in the perfect location to use as a base.

Fantastic food. £3 to park in the car park all day and if you go in and eat they refund your parking. Lots on the menu for under £15 and plenty of choice. Chicken stroganoff was absolutely delicious. The gentleman who seated us was lovely, great laugh! Told us about the well in the floor and made sure we had the best experience possible. Really wish I had got his name as he went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. All the staff were welcoming and helpful. Just a great place, busy but with a. Great atmosphere!

We went for afternoon tea yesterday and it was so lovely and very reasonably priced. The food was delicious and there was a great variety. There was so much food they kindly gave us some boxes to take the leftovers home! We could not recommend it more for afternoon tea, perfect 👌

Centrally located in the town of northallerton nice portioned clean rooms in an old coaching house with 5 star service the only reason that the room rating is low is because there are stairs up to the rooms as are above the ground floor building where you can find restaurant bar and sitting rooms.

Have eaten here quite a few times, it's my parents go to for food when meeting friends in Northallerton. Always enjoyed the food, good selection of dishes. Never stayed so that's why I've not rated the rooms.

The hotel is very well positioned in the centre of town. It is a little old fashioned but comfortable and welcomingenough. Pity there is not a Sunday evening restaurant service. Great breakfast. All-in-all I would recommend for a short stay.

From start to finish the long weekend we spent at the Golden Lion for our charity's AGM was brilliant.
The staff were excellent, the food was plentiful and delicious, the behind the scenes help we received for the AGM proper and for the members' evening dinner was timely, friendly and very professional.
Cannot speak more highly of this remarkably warm and friendly establishment. Breakfast will keep you fully loaded all day.

We visited Northallerton on the 10th of February and as usual parked in their car park and went in for a coffee and toasted teacakes before we went for a wander around the town centre. Service was excellent as usual and the food and drink was lovely.

Rooms are very tired and we had damp in the corners (Room 14), toilet wouldn't flush and there is only a fan to keep you cool. I understand that this is an old and probable listed building, however I have stayed in older coaching inns with much nicer furnishings at a lower price than £120 per night. That price does include all you can eat breakfast however. The staff as always are brilliant and attentive. Below average room, great staff, good breakfast.
