We went to this lovely independently run restaurant for the first time for my husband's birthday. It specialises in fish, offering a great choice of beautifully cooked dishes, some with a delicate Thai infuence. We had oysters baked with spinach and cheese and tempura vegetables to start - all excellent, followed by lobster, sea bass and an outstandingly flavoured king prawn dish with rice. Really too full to have a dessert, we managed anyway, choosing banoffee pie and rum and raisin icecream - again, excellent. Overall, a fantastic meal with great service. The restaurant is quite small, but welcoming and cosy, and the atmosphere is enhanced by the lovely owner and staff - attentive, friendly and helpful with any queries. As another reviewer has said - this restaurant is a 'hidden gem', it is easy to miss on the busy Mansfield Road, but definitely one to look out for, and one that we will certainly return to again.

A hidden gem Away from the hustle and bustle of Nottingham City centre, this quaint eatery provides quite the dining experience for seafood lovers. Unassuming on the outside, you’d be forgiven for not affording this establishment a second glance. However, walking through the door marks the beginning of what can only be described, as a superb seafood soirée. The waiter was charming, polite, and knowledgeable. We were not once left wanting. Me and my acquaintance, who shall remain unnamed, both went for the Grilled Half Lobster in Garlic Butter, with a side of chips (see insert). Tip: be prepared to get your hands dirty! All in all, this was a very pleasant experience. 4/5 - would recommend.

After years of wanting to eat here we finally made it for our 6th wedding anniversary and we were very impressed. Firstly we loved that place hasn't been updated for years. A clear sign that this place survives on quality products and not flashy decor. The service was so warm and friendly. I didn't get the waitresses name but she clearly loved her job and was very knowledgeable on the food served The food was excellent. We had grilled oysters, mussels, scallops and lobster. All served without fuss and absolutely delicious. With wine we paid £90. We can't wait to go back.

Had such a lovely meal here with some great fresh seafood. Had the crab platter and it certainly did not disappoint. I’m gluten free and felt well catered to for this.

Smoked haddock chowder - best ever, monk fish green curry absolutely amazing - do not judge a restaurant by its appearance. Great service. Highly recommend this super fish restaurant.

Had a night stay over in Nottingham and after research like the look of this place, booked a table easily. Its a nice cosy place, not a huge place so has a cosy, personal feel to it. On arrival the greeting was sincere and we felt very welcome. The staff were friendly and really felt passionate about the menu, offering advise on the dishes, ingredients, but not in pushy manner. We both opted for the chowder for a starter, after debating the very interesting dishes on the starter menu, the chowder was hearty and plenty of of it too, very nice. I also wanted to try oysters, having never tried them before, the waiter was really helpful and he tried to work out if I would like them before I ordered them, I opted for the grilled oysters as was not sure about the fresh variety. I was served the grilled oysters and was also awarded with a fresh oyster to try, a nice touch and it was delicious! Foe mains we I had the Monkfish curry and rice , a great choice, rich meaty monkfish and a spicy sauce. The OH had the plaice, which was cooked to perfection and she was very happy with that! The food overall was excellent, could not fault it at all. We two bottles of Chablis, a very nice one too, it accompanied the dishes perfectly, would recommend it highly. Overall, we really enjoyed the ambience of The Lobsterpot, the food was fantastic and the service excellent, many thanks to all the staff. We will definitely visit next time we are in Nottingham!

My wife and I popped in here on a Wednesday night having not pre-booked. We were warmly welcomed and offered a choice of tables. We shared a selection of starters including prawn toasts, crab bites and Thai fishcakes. We then shared a fruit de mer which was delicious and included some of the plumpest mussels I’ve eaten. The waiter was a little rushed of his feet as the only front of house staff on but we were never kept waiting for long.

Great food and knowledgeable service. Background music a little loud. The oysters were great if a little large and the lobster shellfish platter superb. Will definitely be going there again!

I am student who moved very close to this restaurant. Read the reviews and they were all very positive so decided to come for a meal here with my boyfriend, the waitress was very friendly, had great knowledge of all the menu, didn’t catch his name but the man who worked as a waiter there was amazing, so happy to have a chat and even got the name of the chilli they use in the mayo and chilli dip because my boyfriend enjoyed it, the food was amazing i had the muscles and they were beautiful, they do student discount so that’s great for us! I highly recommend this restaurant, had doubts because of the area it’s in but it really is a hidden gem! If you are considering going to this restaurant you won’t regret it!

The food at the Lobster Pot on Mansfield Road is very good. Service could be better and the chairs and tables are a bit cramped though. I can recommend the menu if you like fish and seafood. All cooked well. All sides and vegetables are extra, so that bumps the price up a bit. I don't think they do desserts. Romantic location if there are just two of you.

The restaurant is very modest and calm, both the waiter and the front of the house were pleasant, friendly and most importantly honest with ( fresh fish or not, frozen or not}. we liked the scallops, mixed rice, oysters, mussels and the fish of the day.

Dropped our boy off at NTU and came across this place quite by accident... Pity we don’t live in Nottingham as it would definitely end up as a regular haunt Lovely food and wonderful service and atmosphere A real gem
