Mannequin Pis, deriving its name from the renowned "Little Pissing Man" sculpture in Brussels, Belgium, is a restaurant specialized in Belgian Cuisine.  Est in 1999, it nestled itself within the center of Olney, MD, hidden in a discreet alley just off the bustling plaza. But, as it says that if the food in a restaurant is good, its location does not matter as diners will find it. We had frequented this establishment in the past. However, we haven’t been there since its changes in ownership. Thanks to a dinner gift certificate from our daughter, we returned to its place again. Synonymous with the reputation of Belgian cuisine, Mannequin Pis centers its menu around the mussels, frites, and beers.  It has an extensive selection of Mussel Pots (De Mosselen) – a kilo of mussels enrobed in an array of ambrosial broths, accompanied by the Pomme Frites, a fancier name for French Fries. We chose the “Snob” broth that consists of celery, onions, herb, lobster bisque and garlic and brandy, which proved to be a delightful choice that I heartily recommend. Besides the De Mosselen, you can also find other Belgian specials like Belgian Bier Beef Stew (Carbonnade) and the traditional Flemish seafood stew, Seafood Waterzooi, which is essentially the Belgian equivalent of French bouillabaisse or Italian Cioppino but enriched by an abundance of mussels, stands as my personal favorite. As for the beer, we embarked on a tasting of contrasts – the robust Chimay, reminiscent of an IPA with its 9% alcohol content, and the delicate La Chouffe, a golden, unfiltered blond beer. La Chouffe, adorned in a lustrous hue of golden-yellow, tasted pleasantly fruity and had a mild taste of hops. In stark contrast, the Chimay, an esteemed Trappist-style Belgian beer, was quite potent, swiftly casting a spell of dizziness. In summation, Mannequin Pis is a small establishment, yet within its cozy European-style ambiance, it exudes a warmth that are perfect for couples on double-dates or dine with cherished friends. Note: as shown in photos 1-7, we have also received home delivery in the past.

Went for early dinner. Ordered escargot and smoked salmon appetizers. Also moules Provençal et frites. We ate everything. It was excellent! This is a hidden gem in Olney and I wish I had come here before! First visit and I’ll be back because there are a couple of dozen preparations of mussels…different sauces etc. Service was outstanding. Pleasant ambience.

We have not been here for a decade. Last night we talked about having mussels. We were pleasantly surprised by the many mussel dishes available. Started with a pleasant imported beer, & escargot. They were absolutely delicious. The kilo of mussels were wonderful and enough for the two of us to share. We decided to share the bread pudding. It was the best Bread Pudding that we’ve ever had. Maria, our waitress, was very helpful with our choosing our dishes, and provided exceptional service with a smile.

I'm sad it took me years to finally try this place. This has sky rocketed to the top of my favorite places to eat! Mussels were fantastic, fish was perfectly cooked as well as the risotto and then the chocolate moose was bomb! Service was very good and felt really at home. Will be back regularly!

This place definitely qualifies as a hidden gem. It’s small and cozy, offers amazing food and service. It’s pricey, but totally worth it. We came here because it’s a few minutes away from the Olney theater. My wife and I really enjoyed our lunch here. The only minor hiccup was the red wine (do not recommend). This seems to be more of a Belgian beer place; they do have a very impressive selection of it.

Excellent service, staff, quality of food. Prices were surprisingly lower than expected for the quality and service. We had the lamb chop dish which was very tender along with a sauce that complemented it well and pomme frittes. Kilo of mussels with white wine, thyme, bay leaf, celery, onion was mild and very flavorful. Brussel sprouts were very good also. I would definitely recommend and return.

Being Belgian we could say that my opinion is somehow biased but no it is not! That restaurant is just so good!! The quality of the menu and all they are offering is very good. I brought a very good friend of mine there and he just couldn’t believe his eyes! It wasn’t my first time and most definitely not the last one! I can only recommend it.

Pretty good food. Obviously we had the mussel with lobster bliss. Sea bass, Chilean sea bass, seafood Plata, all pretty reasonable. The cranberry beer was a bit too sweet for my taste. The waitress was very nice. The service staff usually makes or breaks your dining experience.

Went with the family on a friday afternoon around 4pm. The restaurant decoration is authentically European. Tables have nice size to accommodate 4 to 5 people. You have option to seat inside or outside. You can request high chairs if you have kids. When it comes to the food , it was really good , very well cooked and a diverse menu. They have a whole page dedicated to mussels and different ways to eat it, i had the a sea food soup, I enjoyed it. The sandwiches are really big! Servers are chill and respectful . Restroom was very clean too
