Review The Wheatsheaf Inn - Onneley

Billy-Joe Rawlinson
I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Wheatsheaf pub in Onneley, and I must say that it was a truly exceptional experience. From the delicious food to the charming surroundings and impeccable staff service, this establishment exceeded my expectations in every way. Let's start with the food, which was nothing short of brilliant. The menu offered a wide variety of options to cater to different tastes and preferences. Whether you're a fan of traditional pub classics or more adventurous dishes, The Wheatsheaf has something for everyone. I had the pleasure of trying their signature dish, the "Sheaf Special Steak Pie," and it was a gastronomic delight. The pastry was perfectly flaky, and the filling was rich and flavorful, a true testament to the chef's skill and attention to detail. The portion size was generous, ensuring that I left the table completely satisfied. What truly sets The Wheatsheaf apart, though, is its inviting surroundings and superb decor. As soon as you step inside, you're greeted by the warm ambiance of a traditional English pub. The cozy wooden interior, complete with exposed beams and a roaring fireplace, creates an inviting and homely atmosphere. Whether you're visiting for a romantic dinner or a casual meal with friends, the ambiance at The Wheatsheaf sets the perfect mood for any occasion. It's a place where you can unwind, enjoy good company, and savor exceptional food. Equally impressive was the staff service at The Wheatsheaf. The attentive and friendly waitstaff made me feel right at home from the moment I walked in. They were knowledgeable about the menu and were more than happy to offer recommendations and answer any questions. Their professionalism and willingness to go the extra mile for their customers were evident throughout the evening. It's clear that the staff at The Wheatsheaf takes great pride in ensuring that every diner has a memorable and enjoyable experience. In addition to the exceptional food, surroundings, and staff, I must also commend The Wheatsheaf for their commitment to cleanliness and safety. In these uncertain times, it's reassuring to see an establishment that takes health and hygiene seriously. The tables were well-spaced, hand sanitizers were readily available, and the staff wore masks to ensure the safety of both guests and employees. In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend The Wheatsheaf pub in Onneley to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience. With its brilliant food, superb surroundings, and top-notch staff service, it's no surprise that I would rate my visit with a well-deserved 5 stars. Whether you're a local resident or just passing through the area, this charming pub is a hidden gem that deserves to be discovered. I can't wait to return for another exceptional meal at The Wheatsheaf.

Anyone wanting to break up the journey from Scotland to South England could do much worse than chose the Wheatsheaf. Good food, Great breakfast and good size rooms with comfy beds and proper size tv. Showers are good too. Very nice chatty staff and the boss is a good bloke. But the best thing is the 11am checkout and breakfast served till 10am. Who wants to get up at 7.30 when on holiday, made an overnight rest stop very, well, restful. Highly recommended.

We stayed one night; rooms were spacious and clean. Staff weren’t super friendly and a service charge is automatically applied to the bill with the byline “let us know if you want us to remove it”, making it a little bit awkward if you don’t want to tip. Location isn’t great; the road outside is quite busy and there is very little nearby. Breakfast and food was wonderful; we had the duck spring rolls as a light dinner. Gin and tonic menu could use some work; recommended accompaniments on the menu were not available. Coffee in the morning was a a standout.

Lovely staff, full of smiles, and very attentive. Nice place and location. We've e been here many times, but today the gammon is rather salty and the pudding isn't that gorgeous as it was. Even asked the staff if they have a new chef. This won't put us off anyway.

Can't fault the place. The room was tastefully decorated and very clean. Nice touch with the power sockets both sides of the bed, both with integrated USB sockets. Bed was extremely comfy and very little noise from the bar downstairs. Great value stop.

First time staying here, A wonderful welcome, we arrived at lunch time as we wanted to have some drinks before we checked in, Great selection of cider The Southerby blackcurrant cider was great! Very moorish, The room and bathroom is lovely very clean and immaculate! Booked a meal for the evening, the food is all very good! Excellent, we had 2 evening meals and the breakfasts were absolutely fantastic! Quality items and it fills you up and sets you up for the day! If we could give it more than 5 stars we would, Thankyou for a wonderful stay!

Staff were lovely! This is the 2nd time we've been, and we were seated in a little snug, which was lovely for our family of 4. We ordered a starter, which was 10/10, perfectly cooked and presented. Whilst the main was nice (Sunday roast), it didn't blow us away. The whole experience was brought down somewhat as the children's pudding menu seemed way better than the adults. Part of having a meal out is a treat and the full experience. Even though the service was high, the consistency in food standard let it down a little. It wasn't bad but due to the lack of quality dessert options and standard, I've deducted 1 star. Having said this, it's a beautiful pub inside and the staff are lovely so we may well try for 3rd time lucky 😊 The coffee machine was also out of action so we couldn't conclude our experience with a nice flat white and a little biscuit on the side. One of the waiting staff said they can do instant, which was good to offer but sadly not what I wanted. My children were also happy to be able to burn some energy off on the play area!!

Lovely little country inn let down only by its housekeeping. Beautifully decorated, lively food but our rooms were not cleaned properly, bins still full from last guest, toilet bowl and rim not cleaned and carpet not hoovered with bits of glass in carpet. Such a shame ..hope it was a one off. Breakfast was excellent ..they should make sure they hold onto their chef.

Great stay. Just stopped here to break up a journey on the way between Scotland and Dorset. Very happy with everything. The room was spotless with a comfy bed, great smart TV and my other half was massively impressed with the jacuzzi bath. Food was excellent and filling, dinner was good with decent choices and the beer good. Breakfast was really impressive with good quality bacon and sausages. Thanks to Carl and all the staff, we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay.

Went last night (Sunday 6thAugust) ordered the beef dinner, disappointed with the portion size, two very thin slices of beef, only three small roast potatoes which were reheated & rubbery, very little veg, for £11.50 not value for money, we visited this pub regularly under the last owners & the carvery meals on a Sunday were fantastic & much cheaper!! No atmosphere sorry

We had our wedding reception luncheon here and it was wonderful. We wanted a two course pub meal for 55 people and they managed it really well. We were allowed to select the area we wanted to sit in. They organised a pianist for us and set up a meeting, so we could discuss music. We were allowed to take our own champagne and just pay a corkage fee, which made things cheaper. We initially had to cancel our wedding and put it back a year and were allowed to keep the booking without forfeiting our deposit or paying extra. We took our own homemade decorations and staff put them out exactly as desired. The menu was adapted for us to suit our tastes, was very varied and everyone enjoyed their meals. There were no complaints from any of our guests. The country setting is beautiful. We selected the venue because we always found the lunches/meals to be good when we popped in. Would recommend.

We had our day and evening wedding reception at the Wheatsheaf on Saturday 8th October... What an fantastic time we all had. Food was 5*, and the staff went above and beyond the call of duty.( Paige was amazing, nothing was too much for her). We stayed over in one of their rooms...Lovely room, breakfast was 5*. I can't recommend the Wheatsheaf enough...thank you for making our wedding day so perfect.
